Recipes to die for........1997-09-27
Tippi Hedren's Baked Seafood salad is a true taste of Hollywood. What, no bird recipes? Anne Meara's pot roast is great, but what do you expect after being married to that porky guy who play's Mr. Castanza on Sienfeld. Angela Landsbury has always said cheesecake to me, and now I have a recipe. Hubba hubba. Good fun and good food.

ONE OF THE MORE HELPFUL BOOKS ON THIS SUBJECT OUT THERE........2007-09-15
I found this work to be most helpful. It provides step by step instructions and is great for the beginner. The book is full of designs for use with Polymer Clay and is quite detailed. The photography is great and quite clear. The text is full of helpful hints and tips as to techniques that are easy to follow. I also enjoyed the great ideas for projects I gleaned from this work. One of the strong areas of this book, unlike some others I have in my collection, is that the author does not assume that you already know something and goes ahead and explains even simple steps. The only weakness I found was that some of the information is just a bit dated as so much progress has been made in this field over the past two or three years. This is not a big problem though as there certainly is no "bad" information. This is a good one to add to your collection as it is nice to have on hand to answer questions as you are working. It is also a very handy book to have if you happen to be teaching a course in working with Polymer clays. The instructions here can be worked into a lesson plan quite nicely. Highly recommend.
Good book to teach canes and give examples.......2005-12-16
The author shows how to make canes and that is pretty much all that is in this book. Not much if you are looking for other techniques.

Im new at polymer clay and this book is just perfect.Ive loaned it out but kept track of it so no one forgets to bring it back too..I really couldnt have learned so much about canning and the craft of beads in polymer clay without this book..ITs a must add to your clay library.Mrs.C.

This book got me into making jewelry. It has everything from the very simple, to complex canework. I've taken many of the examples in this book and made them into my own design. I would definitly recomend this book for anyone, if your just starting out or you already know what your doing.
Colorful projects ranging from basic to challenging.......2000-07-21
Creative Clay Jewelry is one of the many books that attempt to cover polymer clay work from the very basics to quite advanced. While other books are probably more successful at that (Sue Heaser's Polymer Clay Techniques Book, for example), Creative Clay Jewelry has some good projects and solid information, and would be quite useful to the beginning to intermediate clayer.
It's unfortunate that there's no real indication of level of difficulty in the projects; they don't follow any logical progression. Some of the early projects use very basic techniques only - jelly rolls, marbling - which could probably be discussed in the introduction section. However, just a few projects in, there's a geometric pattern that would be quite difficult and frustrating to do as your third or fourth PC project. I'd advise careful consideration when selecting a project from this book.
Dierks does provide a much more detailed ingredient list, including things like findings and clay amounts, which other books tend to skip. She even specifies particular brands and colors, but it isn't necessary to adhere to them.
On a more personal note, I got less use out of this book than most of my PC books, simply because the projects were very bright, busy, and colorful - and that's very far from my style. But for those who love the casual, cheerful look that polymer clay can provide, this book might well be great.

I've had this book a few years and I've never got any inspiration from this one. It feels outdated, colorless and the projects are boring. There are better books to buy out there.

Not only are the pictures and drections clear but this book is great for those looking for a bump in skill level from your basic beading techniques. Basics in the back are helpful if one forgets how to stitch or bend something.

Good, beautiful, fun...but not for beginners........2006-03-03
This is a lovely book for beaders with some experience.
There are some projects that may suit for new beaders but most of them require that you be familiar with stitches, techniques and beading skills that you learn after some time of practice.
All projects are beautifully photographed and show variations on the same topic. Explanations are clear and precise and I was delighted to find, at the end of the book, some pages with basic information on knots, stitches, beading and jewelry making techniques, which is a most welcome addition to the 100 projects shown in the book.
If you are an intermediate - advanced beader, I do recommend you to buy this beautiful book.
Fabulous Book!.......2005-05-20
I received Chic & Easy Beading today and am really thrilled with it. The projects are straight-forward and step-by-step photos are provided to demonstrate techniques. With the exception of a few projects that weren't to my taste, there are enough ideas in here to keep me inspired for years! The beauty, of course, is that you can substitute any colours you don't care for to something of your own choosing. I would highly recommend buying this book -- it'll be a great addition to your beading library. :)

Viewing the inside of Chic & Easy Beading on this site does not show the buyer the excellent instructions and steps for each project. A friend brought this book in at work for me to look at now I want to buy a copy. I would not have ordered the book if I had not seen the step by step instructions that are unfortunately not shown while viewing this site. Chic & Easy Beading shows clear step by step pictures of each project. The most complicated project looks so easy to make. I cannot wait to have my own copy.

Inspired uses for everyday objects.......2007-07-22
This is a book that I keep coming back to every time I am starting a new project. There are some really inspired uses for every day objects that are just stunning. It really makes it easy to see so many possibilities in the world for jewelry designers rather than relying on those items labeled as "jewelry components." My new favorite is the clear vinyl piping found in the hardware store! The fact that this is a compilation of a variety of artists styles and personalities is what makes this book really special. There was a general call out to artists to participate in submitting ideas for this book and the fact that they are of different styles and tastes is what is so great. This book promises fun and experimental techniques and you won't be disappointed. Great book to have for the jewelry designer or the mixed media artist alike.
Exciting ideas for the experimental jeweler........2007-06-14
I have read all of Tammy Powley's jewelry books but this is by far the most interesting and colorful one yet. It made me want to get out my big box of leftover beads and rummage through my husband's tool box for those little items he's had tucked away "just in case". On most of the pages I saw jewelry made from items I've had hanging out in my kitchen "junk drawer" for years.
As usual, Tammy's pages of techniques are clear and well illustrated. The photography is exceptional.
All in all I think this is her best book yet, particularly for the jewelrymaker who wants to try "something different.
I'm looking forward to her next book.
Mixed Media Jewelry Making...The wave of the future.......2007-04-04
Tammy Powley has done an incredible job of creating an easy to follow, step-by-step book that instucts the reader in the creation of mixed media jewelry making. The instuctions and examples were concise and easy to follow. The contributing artists supplied excellent examples of the genre. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in expanding their sphere of expertise in this type of jewelry making.

I have waited over a year for my contributor's copy of this book, and as a serious snob about crafts and jewelry making... I was prepared to be at least a little disappointed. WELL!! No disappointment here!! I was truly honored to be counted among the fantabulous creators of such gorgeous, fun, wild jewelry. From Ms. Naughty Secretary Club herself (Jennifer Perkins!), to loads of talented artists I'd never heard of... it's really just page after page of inspiration. Author, Tammy Powley, does a terrific job of setting up the basics of making mixed media wearables, with well-illustrated how-to's, and a bunch of projects with step by step instructions (try using these as a basis to make something uniquely yours). The gallery section has beautiful work minus the how-to's... let yourself get carried away by the fun these artists are having!! Contact info at the back lets you find more work by the folks featured in the book, or even send someone an email to say hi. What more can anyone ask? LOVE IT, and so-charmed-dot-com is PROUD to be included in this lovely book.
something for everybody.......2007-03-28
This book has something for everyone. I love the pieces that use recycled materials. Not everyone has gems and precious metals, but most of us have paper, old tins, and bits and pieces of grandmas jewelry. It makes you think 'out side the box'. You can make fun and funky jewelry out of most anything.

This is a fairly new book but it feels outdated and old, the colors are muted and the jewelry is not inspiring. I didn't find any projects in this book I would like to make and this book is not even pretty to look at. Buy the Easy Beading books instead, they're full of great ideas.

This is a wonderful book to have. It has all the steps to completing a project and so many inspirational ideas. I would highly recommend this as one of the books to own.

I have been in the jewelry making business for over 20 years. I teach jewelry making classes on a weekly basis. One of my students brought this book into class and I found it to be very informative.
Okay, so all I can say about Mongopop's review is "DUH". It says the book is for PROFIT...of course the book is going to focus on the business aspect for the majority of the book.
I come across many people that just do not have a creative talent or the ability to grasp concepts. Again...DuH....the book is helping people that probably already have a good base of knowledge about jewelry making. The book includes 8 year old instructions, because most beginnners NO MATTER HOW OLD are at that level. This is a new concept.
Anyway, I just wanted to comment that I was SO disturbed by MONGOPOP's lack of intelligence...I just had to make a comment.
The book is great...Do not let this one review steer you away from a book that will definately help you.
It really scares me that some people will go out of their way to post negative views. I wonder if Mongopop has ever given a positive review. I doubt it.

This is not much of either type of book jewelry or doing craft type home biz. The only thing about this books title is to sell books to people that don't know much about either of the main items in the title. If you know some about either this tome will not help in any case. You can get the copyright type stuff from the Gov for free, and the legal stuff from your library. Also the laws governing a small biz are so locally written check again with your local library. I do own it and will be trying to off load it.

Originally borrowed this book at the local library-liked it so well, I purchased it through Amazon-lots of really good information in a friendly easy to read style. I'd recommend it for anyone who is thinking about going into their own jewelry making business.

"Make Money Doing What You Love"....That is what this book was written for. It was NOT to teach you how to bead. One should already be skilled before attempting to sell their creations or to even think about starting a business. I found it to be informative and helpful, as did the people that I teach.
