Recipes are easy to follow and taste just like my mom's cooking!!.......2005-07-28
This is by far one of the best cookbooks I have. Growing up in Malaysia and now living in the US, I have missed the authentic Malaysian cooking and this book enables me to cook my favorite foods and it tastes similar to my Mom's cooking. Very easy to follow recipes and my husband loves it as well. Can't go wrong with this cookbook!
A stunning book from the country's best Singaporean rest........1998-12-09
This is a truly wonderful book. The recipes, techniques and photographs capture the authentic magnificence of the dishes at Chris Yeo's Straits Cafe (S.F. and Palo Alto), by far the best of the dozen or so Singaporean/Malaysian restaurants in the U.S. that my Malaysian-born wife and I have tried. Most of the Malaysian restaurants in the U.S. are headed by ethnic Chinese and concentrate in that third of the marvelous crossroads cuisine from the Straits of Malacca region. But Chris Yeo (also ethnic Chinese) brings the full breadth and flavor of the Malay, Indian and Nonya (a distinct group that arose from the liasons of Chinese traders and local Malay women centuries ago) dishes, which seems to have taken the best features from the fine foods of Thailand, China, Indonesia and India. As in the restaurant, everything in the book is authentic and imaginative. Searching or mailing for the correct ingredient is worth it. And following the simple but sometimes time-consuming techniques is also beneficial. One of my favorite recipes is here: Yu Sang, a festive ceviche-like salad of lemon-cooked raw fish mixed with slivered veggies and tossed with a sweet dressing.

Add it to your carousel book collection!.......2005-12-08
Charlotte Dinger's Art of the Carousel is a must have for any enthusiasts carousel book collection. This book features chapters about all the major carousel artists/carvers and great photographic examples of each carvers style.
There is also a chapter about restoring and collecting these magnificant animals. This book is very similar to "Painted Ponies" by William Manns/Marianne Stevens. Included is a census of operating carousels. Since the book was written in the mid 1980s, many of the carousels that are listed in the census have been long gone. For an updated censue check the National Carousel Association.
Quoted from the book's dust jacket.......2005-09-04
ART OF THE CAROUSEL, lavishly illustrated in full color with over 400 photographs, is a complete guide for collectors, museums and galleries, as well as a delightful book for those who simply enjoy the beauty and nostalgia of the carousel.
The author traces the development of carousel art by describing style variations and identifiable features of carousel animals produced by the major American carving companies. Important considerations in evaluating carousel figures are defined, as well as characteristics that distinguish European and Mexican animals from the more valued carvings.
In addition, the book includes descriptions and illustrations of restoration techniques, practical advice on buying, shipping, and insuring carousel animals, and a census of operating carousels in the United States and Canada.
A must for the carousel lover.......2002-05-15
There are two books that any carousel collector or would-be collector must have. Dinger's "Art of the Carousel" and Manns' "Painted Ponies". These are simply the most complete of the carousel reference books. Bruce W. Zubee - Webmaster - [URL]
the best I've seen or read........2002-03-27
The book Art of the Carousel is the best I've read. It gives a full history and it is beautifully illustrated. I showed it to a co-worker and she had to have one to put on their coffee table for all to view. You won't be sorry!
Best.......2000-03-27

Carousel Art, Vol. 2: Book of 30 Full Color PostCards.......2006-02-23
Very nice photos. Only 30 photos (post cards). Too pricy as a book for me. Very cheap if you plan on using them as post cards. I paid $9.00 (2006) so that's only 30 cents each, a real bargain for the quality. The publisher should print up Volumes III thru C, I might by them all!

Customer Reviews:
Outstanding score by an outstanding team.......2007-05-30
This is one of my favorite scores from the Rodgers and Hammerstein canon. If you are a musical theater major or musical theater fan (and collect complete vocal scores), this is a great score to have in your collection and worthy of study.
Disappointed - where's the spiral?.......2006-03-09
The music is good and clearly printed, but I bought this edition for the spiral binding as advertised - and got none - which makes opening the score flat on the piano stand very tricky, and turning pages while playing from the score impossible. So "No Thanks".
Book Description
The complex blend of comedy and threat in the mounts on early American carousels still fascinates children and adults. For those who want to create that antique animal charm, Dale Power provides direct instructions and 267 color photographs illustrating all the steps necessary to transform a simple basswood blank into an impressive carousel goat like those that might have adorned carousels built between 1860 and 1930. Dale uses a variety of hand and power tools to complete his projects. Once the carving is complete, wood burning, painting, and mounting techniques are discussed which will bring your carousel animal to life. Patterns for seven additional, uncommon carousel animals and a color gallery are provided to further inspire carvers. With a combination of straightforward instructions and full color illustrations, this book will be a valued addition to the libraries of novice and advanced carvers alike., 267 color photos, 12 patterns for 8 animals, 8 1/2" x 11"

BUY THIS BOOK! MMMM GOOD BOOK!.......2003-07-26

Mirror Image.......2003-06-22
If you have no other book about carousels, this is the one to have. Not only does the book illuminate the history of carousels, dispelling some common myths along the way, but the step-by-step, well illustrated process of carving a carousel is clearly explained in easy to understand terms. As Bruce's identical twin brother I can attest to the heart, mind and artistry that goes into every one of Bruce's creations. Many years ago I received a call from Bruce and he pleaded for my help. I replied that I had no knowledge or skill. Bruce persisted and taught me how to carve carousels using the same steps and techniques described in this book - several of the carousels I have carved are pictured in this book. Perhaps one of your creations will be in his next book!
Dream Weavers.......2003-01-07
Although this magnificent book is being marketed as a strictly how-to book, as a lover of carousels I attest to the fact that this book includes more history and delightful anecdotes about carousels, horses, designs and designers than any other book ever. Bruce encourages you to set your imagination free. Also, there is a step by step structure showing Bruce's one of a kind process. Even if you don't carve or don't want to start, it is still enlightening to see how this present day master carver makes lovely masterpieces for carousels and living rooms.

Coloring Books for All Ages.......2007-01-20
This coloring book, as well as other stained-glass coloring books from Dover, is suitable for all ages, including adults. In fact, the books would be wasted on young children. All of them are especially beautiful when colored with the deepest shades of markers, and particularly when viewed from the back.
Beautiful!.......2007-01-09
These are wonderful pics that look beautiful when finished. Our other stained glass books came with a white flap to put under the page you're working on. That's kind of a must and isn't a feature of this book. But you can find your own backing for it.
Can frame these pics.......2005-08-29
This coloring book is wonderful. I have a carousel themed room and I colored the different pics to the color scheme of my room. This is an excellent gift for any carousel horse fan or an older person who enjoys coloring books. Not ideal for young children.
Carousel Horse Stained Glass Coloring Book.......2005-08-12

GREAT BOOK!!.......2005-01-13
This is a great book. It's a collection of 3 Carousels magazines No. 1 to 3. It has many short but moving stories that teaches values and virtues. Following each story is an exercise composed of several questions about it that helps a kid comprehend the story better. I got to know this book because my 5-year-old kid got several reading and written assignments on it from his kindergarten teacher. Every time he brought this book home, my 3-year-old kid would be very excited because she liked the stories in it, too. It is a good book that you can keep for very long. Younger ones love to listen to the stories and the older ones can can use it to sharpen their reading and writing skills. It seems a bit pricey; however, if you can find it at a used book store, by no means, buy it.
