The book that changed my life. .......2007-03-04

This review is written from the point of view of a licensed massage therapist who went in the business after reading this book.

First I would like to share the story of how thing book got into my hands. Everyone who has been in Provincetown, MA, will tell you it's a different town. I knew nothing about its fame when I first set my foot there which was because I was offered a job there. At the end of the season I already knew that visiting Provincetown and not getting something from a sex store was like visiting Rome and not going to see the Pope. So, set on buying a modest souvenir for myself, I marched in one of the four stores in town and looked around.

To cut the long story short, among the huge selection of accessories and books, my attention was attracted by a book labelled "The Art of Sensual Massage". I flipped through and decided to give it a shot. As a shy single lady unsure how to approach the subject of her affection, I thought that was a sensible choice. I had my souvenir and a couple of weeks to experiment the moves on friends before I became brave enough to suggest it to my crush.

It is very important to understand that this book is entitled the art of SENSUAL, not sexual massage. If you are looking for a book to teach you techniques focused on and around the loins, look elsewhere. There are a lot of tips and hints on how to make the touch intimate, private, just for you and your partner though.

A total beginner with massage, my first tries with the book on a few volunteers left me stunned. I was amazed how good it felt to them! This was also extremely satisfying to me to see the change. In a week I was hooked. In a month I was confident enough to offer it to my crush. It was a ... melting experience.

Remember: all touch feels good. That is, if you desire to touch and be touched. This book can be a very powerful tool in the hands of those who want to bring happiness and content to their partners. It presents a wonderful form of physical intimacy not involving sex. The descriptions/instruction is very clear, easy to understand, with great pointers and suggestions. There photos are quite helpful as well and the models are chosen well. The models are nude but none of what is shown is in bad taste. Have in mind that the pictures were taken a while back in time which explains why they are in black and white and of course the body hair.

The techniques described in the book are excellent. Even now, as a professional massage therapist I still use some of the techniques suggested in this book. It is not necessary to have in-depth knowledge of anatomy to practise at home and with a few exceptions, they are very safe. Massage is for pleasure, not for pain and the author does a great job conveying the idea. Here are a few hints how to improve your experience (some are mentioned in the book, some aren't).
-- Warm the oil before you start. Dipping it in the sink with hot water for 5-10 min makes all the difference in the world.
-- Work the muscles (avoid pressure on the bones).
-- Keep your hands on your partner. Stay connected and if you need to reapply oil, do it with one hand.
-- Use firm and confident strokes.
-- If you start causing pain, stop immediately.
-- Always stay off the spine, varicose veins, sprains, hurt muscle/skin.

I warmly recommend this book to caring couples who want to explore each other's sensuality and learn new ways to bring harmony, content and pleasure in their relationship. Even though I do not have the DVD to this book, I suggest you to buy it as well, especially if you have no prior experience in massage. I believe the book may be of interest even for massage therapists and their partners. It definitely won't teach them anything new technique-wise but the attitude is indeed inspiring and refreshing.

Having purchased many massage books over the years I still find this one, my first, to be a great inspiration. Inkeles' love for massage really comes through and you are able to get right into the technique--usually a few minutes after you open the book! Beware of some of the older editions of "The Art of Sensual Massage" which were printed on low quality paper. The photos suffer. The Arcata Arts edition ... is much improved throughout and has many updates to the text.

Indeed, this truely is THE essential massage book, especially for beginners.

This is one of my all-time favorite books in which to browse. For anyone with an interest in fragrance, it's a delight to explore. It has the most exquisite photography, with beautiful shots of both flora and some very lovingly sensual shots of people who are enjoying the wonderful experience of aromatherapy.

There is lots of information in this book, and it's included to a depth that is just perfect -- not so much that it drones on and on, and not so shallow that it imparts no knowledge. The text is enticing, the subject is horizon-expanding, and the photos are mind-blowing.

Looking for something to keep, which imparts wisdom, makes the life's dreary days much brighter, and in the process of discovery expands one consciousness and one's sensuality? Look inside. Highly, Highly Recommended!!!

This is a beautiful book to look through. It's also a wonderful book to read. The images are gorgeous. It is also an excellent resource for anyone wishing to begin, or add to, a collection of essential oils. It contains step-by-step instructions, as well as recommendations for the use of essential oils, and which oils to use to enhance what traits. I highly commend the authors, and offer my highest praise for their efforts. Get this one, you won't be sorry!

The Compendium For Two Sharing Love.......2000-07-26

I must completely agree to the comments already made by Andrew A Foote - with one exception: I believe that it is considerably difficult to find a lot of different people to get into a photo session for this particular subject, in order to have different people on every page.

Nitya Lacroix is helping people, who want to share love, to do this using their hands. We often like to use words or even some gestures. Here we have an appeal to take our time and say things with gentle touch, which we cannot express in words.

I can only recommend every couple to read through it, so to open up a new dimension in partnership - and perhaps make partner massage an installation in their lifes.

This is one of the best of the sensual massage books, and the best that I have seen thus far. I have two reasons for saying this: best color photograph\visual presentation, and the uniquely useful information focus that the author uses. The color pictures which often fill the pages of this type of book often have two visual drawbacks: one, every page tends to be filled up with the same two people-the same two skin colors, and also the same two personalities. If you don't feel total empathy with the two people on page one, you're sunk. This book is masterful in that department. The pictures are beautiful and diverse. The emotions and personalities reflected in them are varied and subdued. This is a beautiful looking book that complements the way I learn by stimulating my visual appreciation.the second reason why this book is my top pick has to do with information focus. The author picks a perspective that is very good, and runs it on every page. My two favorite items of presentation are: leverage and positioning ideas that could allow you to give a much better massage while working on the same plane as your subject. My other favorite stream of data that runs throughout the book is what I call the roadmaps of massage. One manages to "see" these patterns that the hands make on each of the pages at a glance. I believe that these circuits of the hands feel very good to a massage subject, even when done by a beginner. Other plusses are: there is no real erotic tone to the book, and the book has very good pacing as you jump from page to page. all of this give the book the dual benefits of being food for flipping through fast as a refresher just before starting a massage, as well as being visually beautiful and nourishing to dawdle over for the sheer beauty it.

A great book for the inexperienced!.......2001-02-14

I decided to buy this over Gordon Inkeles' arbitrarily, and I have read through it once so far. I already feel ready to use the techniques that are so thoroughly and sensually described. The photos are usually helpful and tasteful (Puritans be damned!) and the sections on oil selection, etc, are well presented. It's a little over the top on creating a sensual environment -- not all of us always have the time or money to create the lavish dens so described, but it does create a tastefully erotic tone for the entire book. I haven't used the techniques yet, but again, I feel confident just knowing a small portion of what is written. Highly recommended, though I'll try other books too as my experience grows. One star? Seems impossible.

My boyfirend and I read this book, one chapter at a time. We tried out all the different sensual and exotic massage techniques described in this book and we were pretty upset when we were finished with the book. We learned many different ways to please and satisfy each other, just by touching each other on different parts of our bodies and by focusing on our pleasure zones. This book offers good advise that can be useful for everyone, especially couples. This was a great book and the price was very reasonable.

My wife and I just finished reading this book and we both enjoyed it very much. The book covers in-depth techniques on how to gently and seductively rub each other in ways that are pleasurable physically and emotionally. As a relationsation tool, this book offers great tips and as a sexual guide, it offers awsome tips on how to rub your partner in wyas that will get instant erotic responses from them. We recommend it to all couples and can't imagine anyone rating this book low. I think the reader from Miami didn't read past the table of contents!

I read this book and really enjoyed it. It's a great thourough and informative guide to sensual massaging. The techniques are well explained and simple to do. My boyfriend was very pleased with the sensual massage he received. This type of sensual massaging is a pleasurable and erotic way of putting your hands all over your lovers body. I enjoyed reading this book and my boyfriend is still enjoying what I learned, now he's reading it.

Great recipes...I orignally bought a copy of this book in 1994 and have tried virtually every recipe in the book. I subsequently purchased a copy in 2006 as a gift for a family member. I asked my family to consider a new tradition in 2006; replacing the standard Christmas dinner with a "Native Harvest" the outcome was brilliant. Consequently my entire family agreed to embrace this concept and pass it along to the children. We found inspiration in the recipes from this truly amazing cook book and an opportunity to honor our ancesters and Native American culture as a whole.

This is a "must have" cookbook if you'd like to prepare authentic Native American food. The ingredients are easy to find in any well stocked grocery store, and the recipes are not difficult. No "weird" ethnic foods here- just good meals made with what's available. The historical background for the foods of different tribes is an interesting read. The photographs and drawings are absolutely beautiful- those alone are good reasons to purchase this book!

The photography is unbelievable and the recipes work! The book gives us a palatable way to enjoy the true native american way of cooking. I would highly reccomend this book to everyone that loves to experience the enjoyment of cooking new recepies and the even greater enjoyment of eating what they have re-created. A great book for all ages and ethnic backrounds. Good food and lots of it!

A great marriage of Native American history and recipes........1998-12-03

The explanations of the ceremonies when certain dishes were prepared and eaten gave insights into how Native Americans lived and celebrated life. I was surprised how much history was involved in the dishes I grew up eating and had assumed were of early American or European origin. History books never mention that our early indigenous people were gourmands.
