I'm not sure why amazon does not stock this great book. It is still available from the publisher at www.thebigo.com for only $12.95. They also have info for bookstores, chains, and special orders for coaches and bball camps.
Learn the keys to better Basketball.......1999-03-05
Want to learn how to play basketball or just improve on your skills now? Then pick-up a copy of Oscar Robertson's, "The Art of Basketball." Everything you need to begin playing basketball or being able to push your current skills to the next level of competition is in here. Oscar takes you from physical and mental conditioning to all of the skills necessary to play the game. Shooting, passing, rebounding, offensive and defensive tactics even a section on what to do when you are mismatched in a game. The book is excellent for coaches to use as a teaching manual and to recommend to their team as a guide for practicing on their own. Oscar mentions in the book that the best way to improve is to work on the fundamentals and he shows you how even if you have never touched a basketball. You can't go wrong learning from a true master of the game, and if you have any doubts just check out Oscar's stats in the back of the book.
Every basketball camp for youth and adults, should provide........1999-02-23
The" Art of Basketball" by Oscar Robertson, and"They Call Me Coach" by John Wooden, are the two books all basketball students, players, and coaches should have. The" Art of Basketball" provides detailed explanations with photos, of fundamental techniques all players need to master. It is fantastic, the player who averaged triple double statistics over multiple NBA seasons, has documented his fundamentals for others to learn. I found Mr. Robertson's comments concerning the mental aspects of the game, such as developing confidence, to be particularly insightful. At its current price, this book is the best value for instructional basketball books, that is available today.
Oscar Robertson's new book is a great coaching tool........1998-12-08
I highly recommend this book as a coaching tool. I found it to be very helpful in teaching young athletes the game of basketball. I especially like the way Oscar keeps fundamentals of basketball as the emphasis of this book. The review at the end of each chapter is very helpful along with the suggested workout programs. I had each girl on my team buy one and we have them read a chapter a week. At our practices we review what they read then we incorporate Oscar's program into our coaching program. I highly recommend this book to anyone who coaches youth basketball...it's a great tool. Every kid who plays basketball or who wants to improve their game should have a copy of this.

20 Cookbooks in 1.......2007-09-13
Warning! If you purchase this book you will soon be purchasing several others. No seriously, this is a wonderful and really under rated book. I got it at a Christmas gift exchange last year and since then I have purchased 5 of the cookbooks listed after making and loving several of the recipes. This is a great book if you want to be exposed to chefs you might otherwise miss. The recipes are excellent, you get the feel of the cookbooks listed and you get to try the recipes before deciding on purchasing the books. It is laid out really well with an introduction by the cookbook author followed by several of the recipes featured in their books. This is also a great book if you are on a budget and can't just pick up 20 new cookbooks. Lastly, it is a perfect present because it has something for everyone. I strongly, strongly recommend it!
Great for those that want to try something new!.......2007-08-18
I love this book! I am 2/3 of the way through making each and every recipe. Yes, some of the recipes I won't make again but there is at least one recipe from each chef that is superb and I can't wait to make it again. My family personally liked the Grilled Tuna Salad with Habanero mayo from Bobby Flay and Devil's Chicken Thighs with Braised Leeks from Sunday Suppers at Lucques has got to be the best thing I have ever made/eaten. The only negative thing I can say is that most of the asian recipes have ingredients that you can't get at a mainstream grocery store. There is a great variety of recipes and it is very fun to always have something new to make.
Also, the recipe of Baked Pasta with Ricotta and Ham doesn't have a misprint. If it is read correctly the instructions first say to add the tomato sauce to some other ingredients and then later it says to start layering the sauce mixture in the pan.
Finally, if you like Brussel Sprouts as much as I do there is a recipe for Shredded Brussels Sprouts Salad that is absolutely divine!!
Needs editing........2007-08-12
Aviod this cookbook. After trying three recipes, I've decided to throw the book away (I wouldn't sabotage anyone else by donating this to a book sale). The first recipe I tried "Baked Pasta with Ricotta and Ham" has an error. There is a listing for 1 1/2 cups of tomato sauce in the ingredients list, instruction on step 2 to add the tomato sauce then step 5 again directs you to...add the tomato sauce. No divided amounts or 1 1/2 cups each. Your guess is as good as mine. The second recipe for "green chili soft tacos" is suitable for anyone on a bland diet. Boiled tofu has more snap. And the blueberry cake left me wishing I'd saved those poor, innocent berries for something tastier than a dessert which could be proudly served in any Dennys.

Separates the Wheat from the Chaff.......1998-12-02
The editors have done a superb job separating the wheat from the chaff in this comprehensive cookbook. It has something for everybody, and it picks literally the best recipes from each new cookbook. Based on some of the recipes I've tried here, I've purchased (for myself or as a gift, since the holidays are upon us!) two of the reviewed original books in their entirety. Food & Wine has done an excellent job of saving us both time (in finding) and effort (in trying) new and innovative recipes.

Delightful Variety and Successful Recipes Charm a Cook.......2003-09-18
The afternoon I purchased this cookbook (enticed by the attractive, clear layout and the fact that the "best" consisted of recipes from a diverse array of cooking volumes), I immediately took it to the supermarket and prepared several dishes within four days -- Palace Olive Poppers, Fast Gazpacho, Cheese-and-Mushroom Quesadillas, and Toasted Penne with Herbs, Goat Cheese, and Golden Bread Crumbs. The first three were extremely simple and not time-consuming, while the fourth required more time and effort but was certainly worth the investment. The Poppers I made again within a week because my husband craved them again (even a half recipe makes a meal) The Gazpacho fits it with my low carb diet, and also was successful for a pot-luck ladies' luncheon. I anticipate happily undertaking more treasures in this volume, including the Bite-Size Cheddar and Thyme Gougeres, Quick Fried Shrimp with Toasty Garlic, Sage Tagliarini, Tagliatelle Souffle(an unusual and impressive-looking creation), and Chocolate Heart of Darkness Cakes. Both the photographed dishes and descriptions of ingredients and procedures make for "tempting" as well as charming reading!
Adventurous.......2001-10-28
Have you ever wished for a cookbook that would test your cooking abilities just a little more? Maybe a cookbook that is not too complicated, but will take your cooking to the level of a chef? I found the recipes in this cookbook really made cooking quite fun and the colors, tastes and textures are also very exciting.
I just finished making: "Pumpkin and Pancetta Risotto" and thought how wonderful this would be to serve in place of mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving. The creamy rice flavored with crispy pancetta, pumpkin treats and shallots is quite comforting, especially at this time of year. This dish is also so beautiful when you are making it and is perfect to make in October/November.
If you do make this specific recipe, I recommend even adding some toasted pumpkin seeds as well. Just saut dried pumpkin seeds in butter or make extra pancetta (saltier than bacon) and top each serving with more mascarpone. You could really make a meal of this recipe and just add a cup of hot apple cider.
My other recommendations for Fall from this cookbook are:
-Chocolate Heart of Darkness Cakes (Sounds sinful, don't they? ;)
-Pumpkin Ginger Crme Caramel on Spiced Pumpkin Cake
with Pecan Shorts and Toffeed Pecans
-Creamy Corn with Smoky Bacon Chanterelles, and Thyme
-Long-bone Short Ribs with Chinook merlot Gravy and Rosemary White Beans
-Sweet Butternut Soup with Thyme Crme Fraiche
This cookbook is quite detailed and has many extras you won't find in other cookbooks. The Editors really make this very easy to use. There is a wonderful index as well as a list of recipes by book, so you could choose to look up 10 recipes by Tom Douglas if you found his cooking to be your style. The Index also has boldface numbers to indicate recipes with pictures.
The contents include recipes for: hours d'ouevres, fish, chicken, pork, veal, beef, lamb, main dishes, vegetables, side dishes and desserts.
Each year, the editors from Food & Wine search for the best recipes from the best cookbooks. This year their final selections have come from cookbooks by world-famous chefs. You can enjoy recipes from cookbooks written by Alfred Portale, James Villas, Marcel Desaulniers, Christopher Kimball, Jasper White, Jerry Traunfeld, Pam Anderson, Mark Bittman, Tom Douglas and Maya Kaimal to name a few.
The Layout is especially enticing and creative. You not only get great recipes, you can find all the "test-kitchen tips" right with the recipe. That gave me more confidence to adapt the recipe. The recipes are also inspired at times by delectable multicultural fare.
The editors started with 700 books, in which they found 300 recipes to test. 100 recipes were chosen to be in this really fun cookbook. Recipes from 27 cookbooks are featured.
"So if you find yourself gravitating toward recipes from a certain author, you'll know that there's a cookbook out there that really suits you and that the recipes in it are written just as they are in these pages." -Judith Hill, Editor in Chief
This cookbook is quite exciting and you will find many new recipes to try. The pictures are also fantastic. This book comes with my highest recommendation for gift giving.

Improved edition.......2004-08-30
I have several years of these food and wine samplers of the best recipes of the 25 best cookbooks of the year. This 2002 edition contains an improvement: recipes are organized by type rather than by cookbook of origin, making it a more usable work.
Suggestions for future editions include:
1) Multi-year index to all published editions
2) Author's name legibly on each page (this edition only has a tiny photo of the original book's cover
3) More F&W editorial comments describing the dish and what makes it great. (More like Best American Recipes edited by Fran McCullough).
4) Are so many celebrity cookbooks really the best of the year? I'm skeptical, as so few are on my list of "best cookbooks of all time." Cookbooks by single subject experts who put in years of effort and research before publication and cookbooks written by cooking teachers with a deep knowledge of their cuisine tend to make it to my "best of all time" list.
