Excellent for young cooks.......2007-08-01
Mollie Katzen is a great cookbook author, and I love to give this as a gift to young cooks. Because Katzen writes vegetarian, it is a 'no worry' gift if the family has made that choice.
Recipies are easy to follow with delicious results. Reading, planning, following directions - all important steps for young readers.
A solid choice for your own kids, or as a holiday or birthday gift.
A great way to teach reading!.......2007-07-24
These are some really simple recipes that I think most children will enjoy. They are broken down in to small steps with a blurb underneath. Not only will kids be making artistic culinary statements, they can also learn to associate words and pictures.
Fabulous!.......2007-06-27
Please try some of these recipes with a small group of preschoolers. Delicious and fun!
Salad People.......2007-06-02
This beautifully illustrated book of fun and tasty recipes made a wonderful Mother's Day gift for my daughter in-law. Her young family will treasure it for many years to come.
Fun recipes for kids.......2007-03-28
My very picky eater loved making the salad people from this book. There are several other fun recipes that we are looking forward to trying.

A sauce for every occasion.......2007-08-11
This book really is "The Complete Book of Sauces". It would be hard to imagine what sauce recipe ISN'T in it. Not only does it contain virtually any kind of sauce recipe you could want, but it offers helpful ideas on what to serve with what. Also, the recipes are "doable" rather than some I've seen in other books that are so complex no one but a professional chef would even attempt them. In addition, the price was right, and it arrived very promptly in pristine condtion.
Excellent.......2007-01-10
Just the book I was looking for! Excellent coverage of sauces for beginners to "old hats"! Thanks!
Numerous variations to try in a lifetime!.......2000-11-06
There are definitely more sauces in this book than you can possibly try. They are divided and arranged by type and purpose, which makes it easy to pick out the sauce that you need. Some of the ingredients are somewhat hard to find, but most recipes can be prepared with minimal fuss. My favorite part of this book is the marinades chapter.. you can combine a marinade with a similar sauce and end up with something spectacular. Another useful chapter is the fruit sauces chapter, which proved to be very valuable on that special occasion when you wanted to enhance the flavor of your desserts. No photos in this book though.
The Complete Book of Sauces.......1999-12-04
This book is excellent, I have had success with every recipe I've tried. I refer to this book almost on a daily basis to make my dishes more interesting. If you buy only one sauce book this is the one to buy.
One simple books adds fun and life to almost any dish........1998-10-10
It's now Oct 1998. I bought the book in 1990 when it first came out. I'm a business man, not a gourmet, but with this Sallie Williams book, polite lovely ladies have almost tackled me to get 'my recipes'. I have fun cooking because of this book, more than with any other cookbook. I pick a meat or vegetable, and pick a sauce. It always works, and leaves me feeling like I'm creating by selecting the combination of some dish with a sauce, plus dreaming up ways to display the food. So far it never seems to get boring, and after nine years there are still a lot of sauces I've not yet tried. I think the book will be with me for the duration. Highly recommended. The only downside is that 'favorite' sauces are easy to find in the book, and thus you have to avoid the temptation to stop exploring sauces not yet experienced.

Big Book of Vegetarian.......2007-09-03
This really is a great cookbook. Easy to follow recipes (although some ingredients are hard to find in a small town in the middle of nowhere, where we live), and everything tastes good. I'd highly recommend it to anyone wanting to expand their cooking.
Excellent modern American vegetarian cookbook for home.......2005-12-13
I received this book as a present, and I am very pleasantly surprised by this book. This book contains modern and creative twists on traditional American dishes as well as other food of ethnic origin making its way into mainstream. All the dishes I've made from it have turned out to be very delicious, the steps are simple to follow, and most of the ingredients are available at well-stocked supermakets. I was surprised how many things I used to have to buy can be made so easy with so little time or effort. This was what I had hoped my Moosewood cookbook would be, but this book actually succeeds because of it is more focused, placing emphasis on beauty through simplicity rather than purely just inventiveness.
Another part I really like about this book is that it actually contain a decent breakfast section. From now on I no longer have to rely on omlettes or toast for breakfast, but instead I can have banana french toast, different muffins, etc.
The recipes here are very straightforward, so they are suitable for most levels of cooks. The only possible drawback is that there are no pictures (though you won't need them), and there are no directions on preparation techniques, so I would suggest this book for those with at least some rudimentary kitchen skills.
Vegetarian Cookbook.......2005-11-11
Great cookbook, has trendy new way to look at origional ingredients.

Thumbs UP.......2005-09-13
This is one of my favorite cookbooks. I have been vegetarian for many years and I am an avid cook, and this book has provided nothing but perfect food, without meat, every time I have used it. The salads are great, the breakfast foods are great, the entrees are great. You name it, in this book, it's all good.
The recipes are well-tested and well-written recipes. A must have.
A great addition to your cookbook collection!.......2005-08-16
This is an excellent cookbook, lots of variety, well-written, visually pleasing...definitely a good choice for anyone who appreciates easy-to-prepare, delicious recipes.

A toddlers' paradise...Wiggles & scratch & sniff.......2004-08-15
My daughter has discovered that her world is filled with interesting scents! Now instead of putting everything into her mouth, now it's straight to her nose! So a board book about The Wiggles, one of her favorite Wiggles' songs - Yummy, Yummy fruit salad and that it also smells makes this book one we read often through out the day!! Our book included 14 scratch and sniff apples, bananas, watermelon and grapes stickers. You could probably let your toddler place the stickers on each page, but I did this before I gave the book to my daughter so that she thinks it's part of the book and not stickers to peel off. The stickers smell so good and the book does not follow the song word for word, but it's close enough! Perfect for the Wiggles fan in your home!!!!
It's Fun To Do, It's The Healthy Way........2003-11-04
The title of this book, has a completed match with the Wiggles song, "(Fruit Salad)" because The Wiggles take turns telling each of the 4 steps in order. What I also love about (Yummy, Yummy Fruit Salad) is that you can learn to make your own fruit salad from The Wiggles directions by singing that song, then you'll have yummy fruit salad too-just like Greg, Anthony, Jeff and Murray.

It's true! You can eat dandelions and acorns!.......2003-06-13
Simply fascinating book on ordinary plants in your own yard. Great recipes and very entertaining. I did not know you could eat half of this stuff! Wowie!
Colorful and inviting.......2000-03-30
This is the first wild-foods book I have found that is ideal for children. Preteens and young teenagers can be intimidated or overwhelmed by Billy Joe Tatum, or tuned out to the personal story flavor of Euell Gibbons. This book is so clear and so beautifully illustrated-- it is perfect to get young people involved in the foraging lifestyle. It's botanically precise, as well, to assuage the fears of worried mothers! The book is not just for young people, of course; it is a joy for foragers of all ages.

For Caesar Afficionados.......2006-04-29
"In Search of Caesar: The Ultimate Caesar Salad Book" is a neat little book about the history of Caesar Salad as well as adaptations made by chefs throughout the country!
Terry D. Greenfield is a restaurant consultant and columnist whose passion for Caesar Salad led him to penning this book.
This book was an enjoyable read. I loved reading of the history of this flavorful salad. Also, I enjoyed the adaptations of this classic dish as well. One of them was hysterical! Well, actually, it wasn't funny so much as it was designed to feed a lot of people. The first ingredient: 90 eggs! Yeah, right! I will make that one tomorrow. Not! ;-)
There are several black and white photos in here showing salads, menus, restaurants, chefs and the creator, of course, Caesar Cardini.
This book is great for true Caesar Salad aficionados. Others may not appreciate it as much.

Great introduction........2003-02-22
In its roughly 50 parts, all written by experienced cooks and cook book writers, HP Books' "The Book of ... Cooking" series takes you to the cuisines of various regions of the U.S. and around the world; all in easy to follow, well-explained recipes.
This installment, the Book of Dressings and Marinades, starts with a brief introduction to the various basic types of dressings; and a similar introduction precedes the section on marinades. The book presents recipe suggestions for all different kinds of dressings and marinades, from yogurt dressings to fruit marinades. Special chapters are dedicated to oil and vinegar dressings, sour cream dressings, fruit and vegetable dressings, mayonnaise dressings, soft cheese dressings and dips, meat marinades, poultry and game marinades, fish marinades and vegetable marinades. Classics such as vinaigrette, blue cheese dressing, horseradish, dill and cucumber dressing, different kinds of mayonnaise and yogurt dressing, and cocktail, Greek, mustard, and sweet and sour dressing appear next to unique recipes such as apple and Madeira dressing, fig and Port ice cream, cherry cinnamon dressing, coconut lime dressing, fruits in wine, egg and walnut dressing, orange and sesame seed dressing, and saffron and pistachio dressing.
From almond yogurt dressing to walnut mayonnaise and yellow tarragon dressing, this collection of recipes, while not all-encompassing, is a great introduction to the endless possibilities of spicing up a meal with a great dressing - and at a relative bargain price, to boot. Also recommended: This series' installments on salads, sauces and dips and salsas.

Excellent variety of recipes.......2006-08-23
I enjoyed this book so much I had to purchase one for a friend! The book is inexpensive and I've had fun trying the various recipes to see which ones I liked the best. I also like the fact that some menus had canned items and some were for fresh items.
Not much spice.......2005-08-03
The 180 salsa recipes in this book could be reduced to 12 or so good ones. Many are simply repeats of others in the book with only very slight variations and a different name. I'm glad I got the book, because I will use the 12 good recipes, but don't buy it for 180. You'll be disappointed if you do.
Dynamite IS packed into a small package!.......1999-09-06
People have said powerful things come in small packages. Maybe that's why this "hot" book comes as a small thinner book. Salsa Lovers Cookbook comes with less than 130 pages, but is filled with "more than 180 sensational salsa recipes for appetizers, salads, main dishes & desserts!" Almost every page is filled with at least two recipes and I can't think of another salsa recipe that would possibly be missing from this collection.
This book starts out with an Anatomy of the Chile section with history, cooking ideas, tips and suggestions. The recipes go from an All Canned Salsa to an All Purpose Salsa to recipes like: Cherry Red Salsa; Instant Fire Salsa; New England Salsa; Any Meat Salsa, Avocado Salsa for Fish, Black Bean Salsa; Chili Cheese Salsa; Cucumber & Radish Salsa; Dry Salsa for Seasoning Steaks; Fresh Vegetable Salsa; Holiday Salsa; Madera Salsa; Mango Salsa; Pico de Gallo I through V; Salsa Carne; Salsa por Scallops; Salsa with Bourbon; Sweet Spicy Salsa; Yellow Fruit Salsa; Avocado Salsa for Salads; Salsa for Fruit Salad; Salsa for Watercress Salad; Banana Salsa; Champagne Salsa; Chocolate Salsa I through VI; Coffee Salsa; Orange Peach Salsa; Pineapple Dessert Salsa; Raisin & Rum Salsa; and Wine Salsa for Fruit.
Almost every recipe has ingredient readily available and can be made in only a few minutes. This is one of the only cookbooks that I can remember seeign that has each section in alphabetical order for very easy reference. Some of the recipes, in my opinion, have stretched the definition of Salsa, and some are a little-off-the-wall, however this is one of those fun books to add to your shelf.
