Book Description
Though cosmetic breast surgery is most commonly an elective procedure, it is an important, irreversible decision that demands careful consideration. In Cosmetic Breast Surgery, distinguished plastic surgeon Robert M. Freund—who has worked on the breasts of thousands of women in his private and public New York City practices—offers clear explanations and sensitive advice for women curious about having their breasts enlarged, reduced, or lifted. In a factual, conversational tone, Dr. Freund—recently named one of New York's leading plastic surgeons by New York magazine—candidly discusses all of the risks and rewards involved, different operating procedures and options, the right and wrong reasons to have surgery, choosing the right surgeon, pre- and postoperative care, and what to do if a procedure goes wrong. Written with a woman’s best interest in mind, Cosmetic Breast Surgery provides photographs throughout and is essential reading for all women considering breast surgery.
Customer Reviews:
the best book for cosmetic breast surgery information.......2006-05-19
I bought all the books on cosmetic breast surgery, while researching my desire to have my breast lifted and enlarged, this book is by far the best, most informative and well- written. I also went on several consultations with different doctors and Dr. Freund was the most helpful and comforting physicians. His knowledge made me confident and the results were better than i hoped for. P.S. I travelled from North Carolina to see him and it was worth the trip.
Concise, Excellent Information.......2006-02-18
I have been considering a breast reduction for years. This book answered all of my questions so thoroughly that I almost didn't have any left for my plastic surgeon. My surgery went very well, and I am pleased with the outcome. Thanks for writing such a clear and informative book that answers the many questions women have concerning breast surgery.
Dr. Robert Michael Freund Walks on Water....I don't say that about every doctor!.......2006-01-01

A Necessary Staple When Making A Serious Decision .......2005-04-09
I'm going through a difficult decision in regard to breast augmentation. I have now read this book twice. It's clear and helpful. The interesting aspect that Dr. Freund brought into the book that beauty is regional. What works in LA doesn't work in New York.
It's interesting, informative and I'm reading it again.
SOLID, INFORMATIVE, ESSENTIAL & Ethical.......2005-03-28
This book gives you the facts, from a doctor who is ethical, descent, and talented. I have first hand experiemce as to Dr. Freund dedication, I know him, and this book is representative of how he practices and his strong and qualitative committment to his patients.
If you are considering breast surgery this book is essential.

Health educators and professionals, and others interested in the topic.

Well-written.......2001-05-29
For a textbook, this book is rather readable. The type is a good size, and it contains a lot of pictures and diagrams. The included CD is also very handy; it contains the full text of the textbook in searchable PDF format (minus some copyrighted photos) plus sample quizzes, videos, weblinks, and sound clips. Each chapter begins with a short "story" that features a character who has a good healthstyle and a character who has a negative healthstyle. The writing is also relatively informal and easy to understand. I learned a lot from the chapters, especially the one on nutrition.

Customer Reviews:
Decent basic advice, a little dated.......2004-11-18
This book is a decent, easy to read introduction to the basics of low-fat cooking and eating. It will teach you how to read nutrition labels and the like. The humor, and the writing in general, are not great, but very readable if you like your information easy to swallow.
Unfortunately, the advice is a little bit dated about the specifics of, for instance, what the legal requirements are for a product to be called "low fat." When in doubt, do your own research. It also does not take into account any recent findings about, for instance, the glycemic index. If you are well versed in these things, the book will not help you.
For some, the most helpful part will be the final chapter, called "Embarrassingly Simple Recipes." If you have no idea how to cook, or no idea how to cook low fat, this will get you started, with recipes for how to cook skinless, boneless chicken breasts and how to make simple dishes with a variety of grains, vegetables, and fruits. There are a fair number of these recipes - definitely enough to get you started, if that's what you need. Again, if you can already cook low-fat or you want a real cookbook, this is not what you need.
best book i've read for a normal person trying to eat well.......1997-09-03
I am learning to live a low fat life and have looked at and read several books that were boring and preachy. This book makes it easy to catch on and understand why we all should eat differently. It's also funny. It's like sitting at my neighbor's kitchen table and chatting while a great dinner is being prepared

Book Description
This book documents that Multiple Sclerosis is probably a geographical disease. Where you live before age 15 could determine if you will come down with MS in later life. Migration may be a major factor in avoiding MS. There is no known cure for this disease. Two hundred new cases are diagnosed each week. Learn why living above the 37th parallel puts you in a high rish zone anywhere around the world.
Customer Reviews:
We need a cure for Multiple Sclerosis -- now!.......2001-03-28
This book is, without a doubt, the most documented book on the various aspects of MS that I've ever seen. It gives the reader realistic facts about this disease that are unknown to much of the general population. I had not realized there are so many factors which can put certain individuals into a higher risk category for developing MS. As a parent, and now a grandparent, I was totally unaware of what a great influence geography and migration have on MS. We never thought about moving to a low risk area or state. By luck, we did.
Heredity/Genetics are discussed in plain and simple language. It's an important factor in MS everyone should know about. The chapter on viruses as triggers was so interesting. The discussion on cats and dogs is alarming. The chapter dealing with sucide is also disturbing. "What Should I Be Prepared For?" puts every parent and grandparent on notice for tell-tale early symptoms and signs.
The book is written in easy to understand language and is well worth reading by all parents, as well as friends and families of those already touched by MS. It tells you like it is. Let's find a cure?

Book Description
Living With Math: Making Healthy Decisions for Yourself and the Earth is NOT a textbook. It is an informative and interesting "armchair" read which presents mathematics as an embedded fragment within the larger context of history and society. It is designed to assist readers in realizing that a working knowledge of mathematics is essential to living more consciously, and to making more intelligent, better informed decisions about everything from the foods they choose to eat to environmental issues to politics. Mathematical skills are illustrated using very pertinent, current issues as examples, such as health care, diet, inflation, taxes, pollution, world population and food production. The historical and topical commentaries make the book a very enjoyable and compelling read for the layperson, as well as an excellent resource for teachers.
Customer Reviews:
Hey, I like him, like his book.......2000-06-13
I bought this book because Ira was my Physical Science and AP Physics teacher in high school. He was an excellent and creative teacher then, and continues the tradition in his book. This is a very friendly (and earth-friendly) read, even for the non-mathematical.
You Just Never Know.......2000-03-18
Didn't think a book with this title would be an easy or involving read--but it was! If you wish you had understood your high school math better this is a pretty good way to go about it with a minimal amount of pain. It's historical and somewhat humorous.

Customer Reviews:
very cute book.......2007-07-28
we love the sing-song metric to the rhyme in this book. It's not my baby's favorite book, though. She actually prefers "my first sushi book" to this one. Still, we're learning about important foods that we eat in our half-mexican household.
cool and quirky board book.......2007-05-07
My one year old son loves this board book! We actually have the entire series. It's fun and creative, and I don't have to worry about him ripping the pages. We are hooked!
My kids love this one and others by Sanger.......2007-04-09
The pictures are very compelling. Amy's mixed-media collage style appeals to the abstract yet does a good job of representing food. They don't seem to get boring after countless reads.
Moreso the writing lends itself to dramatic interpretation by the reader (me, usually) which makes them fun to read over and over. Many other authors' books become boring after a dozen or so times through and I self-select those out of the bookshelf and into the trade-in box. Not so with Hola Jalapeno.
Also, we live in the land of tex-mexican food and this is a good intro to the cuisine.
Hola Jalapeno (World Snacks) .......2007-01-22
This is a very little kid's book, one of those small 5.5 inch x 5.5 inch, indestructable, 10 thick little pages. I was surprised when I received it. Almost too infant-like for my 5 yr old. It was a little fun though and I didn't return it. Just skimpy, a little disappointing. Honestly, can't remember if it was adequately decribed in the Amazon description. For $6.95, you decide.
Fun.......2007-01-18
We love this book. It is a great way to expose our children to other cultures and makes them excited to try new foods. The pictures are just as fun as the story.
Customer Reviews:
A Pleasing Cook!.......2007-05-07
My husband and i have visited Costa Rica and couple of times and have actually purchased property there for retirement. The kind people, flora fauna and, of course, the fresh foods are magical for us.
This little book has helped me to get the real flavor of these countries cuisine and has definitely widened my cooking skills. Some of the receipes are a little overwhelming, but not actually that difficult once you get into it and have the ingredients. This is the reason for 4 instead of 5 star rating.
The plantains, bean soup and seviche camarones (although i used a variety of white fish) are all time favorites around our house. Get ready for lot's of compliments!
Product Description
This book starts off with the history of Mexico and then moves right along to describe the ingredients that will be used in the recipes. Books covers: salsas- soups and snacks-meat dishes-fish and shellfish-vegetables-desserts and candy-drinks. Every pages contains bright photos.

Delicioso!.......2007-07-23
For my children's literature class, I made pumpkin empanaditas from the Josefina Cookbook I got when I was 11 or 12. They turned out wonderful! So now I'm eager to make everything from this book!
Except, I don't know why the book is nearly $20 through Amazon. ??????
Try It, You'll Like It!.......2002-06-06
Josefina's Cookbook has a variety of foods that are common in the traditional New Mexican diet. New Mexican food is unique to the region and includes items that are not even in the Hispanic diet in neighboring states. In a state whose State Question is "Red or Green?" (as in "Do you prefer red or green chile?"), caution must be taken in trying new foods if you are sensitive to spicy-hot foods, as many children are. If you are unfamiliar with what is HOT in the New Mexican diet, going out and buying a New Mexican cookbook to introduce your children to this type of food may meet you with watering eyes and children reaching for tortilla chips to neutralize the burn.
Josefina's Cookbook is a much better choice for children because it is filled with child friendly recipes that still represent the New Mexican diet. Some of the recipes are for small items, like home-made tortillas, hot chocolate, soft cheese, and pinto beans. Empanaditas (little empanadas), posole, green chile stew, and carne adovada are more meal oriented recipes. Just remember the sopaipillas if you are cooking with chile!
The format of this book is a joy to look through even if you want to learn about New Mexican cooking without preparing the more adventurous items. The ingredients and cooking equipment are listed at the beginning of each recipe and the recipes themselves are well written and illustrated. It won't be hard for a girl to find something that she'll want to try.

"Chato, a low-riding cat with six stripes, was slinking toward a sparrow when he heard the scrape of tiny feet coming from the yard next door." You get the idea. Chato is a sly, mustachioed "cool cat" from an East Los Angeles barrio. The tiny feet? Those belong to the new mice (ratoncitos) next door--"five mice the color of gray river rock," to be precise. Chato promptly invites them over for dinner, in exactly the sense you might fear.
"That Chato cat seems muy simpatico, very nice, I'm sure," says Papi mouse. The mice (being cheese lovers) spend the day making quesadillas for the fiesta, while Chato and his best friend Novio Boy busily prepare side dishes for a meal con ratoncitos. Instead of the anticipated gruesome ending, a surprise twist is in the works.
Gary Soto, author of Too Many Tamales, is brilliantly witty, and Chato's Kitchen--an ALA Notable Book and a Parents' Choice Award Winner--is truly marvilloso. Susan Guevera's comical, deliciously detailed, richly colored depictions of the creatures are priceless as well, earning her the 1996 Pura Belpre Award for Illustration. A culinary concoction that no youngster (or adult) will be able to resist. (Ages 4 to 8)
Customer Reviews:
Chato's Kitchen really cooks some fun.......2007-10-11
Chato's Kitchen is a wonderful children's story. Is fun and entretaining. I'm an adult and I just love the drawings.
I think every parent and school teacher should share this story with the children.
Pretty Kitties, Pretty Good Book.......2005-11-24
Chato is a character in more than one Soto book. He is an urban cat who looks Hispanic and, frankly, a little sleazy (his cat friends likewise have mustaches and wear gold chains and wife beaters). When a family of ratoncitos (mice) moves into the neighborhood, Chato hatches a scheme to invite them to dinner. They will be dinner, of course.
The mouse family reluctantly accepts the invitation, thrilling Chato and his friend, who hasten to begin preparing side dishes to go with the mice. But when the mice arrive on the back of their dog friend, the cats are frightened into toeing the line for the rest of the evening.
This Pura Belpre award winner includes what appear to be acrylic illustrations featuring thick, black outlines and lots of purple morning glories. I suspect there is more in the illustrations than meets the unpracticed eye. For instance, a group of birds seen several times are celebrating a wedding. There is a religious-looking shrine set up in Chato's house. And when the cats first encounter the dog their skeletons are visible underneath their skin. One of the cats looks like Edvard Munch's The Scream.
There are also a glossary and a menu of Spanish terms. Anyone who frequents Mexican restaurants would be familiar with most of the menu terms.
I believe this book would be a favorite choice for read-aloud because there is a good deal of silly action you could act out.
Sleek and sophisticated.......2003-12-22
A remarkably original book. The illustrations are well wrought, and the story contains some of the most evocative I've heard in a picture book. Describing Novio Boy's collar, the book says it was, "a leather one with real gems that sparkled at night when cars passed in the street". The cats themselves are a twinge odd. Drawn with cat bodies but human eyes, teeth, and moustaches, they are just disturbing enough to keep the pictures interesting. It's a colorful book as well, full of beautiful swirling scenes and bold shapes. The use of Spanish throughout the text is seamless as well, never striking the reader as out of place or jarring. This book would read well with other stories that incorporate more than one language in their text. Or, kids could read it with other picture books that take place in Hispanic communities. Or, it could be paired with other stories where hungry preying animals fail to get a meal. A beautiful book to read aloud to groups.
Another Gary Soto hit!!!.......2001-02-05
Any controversy surrounding this book is misplaced. It is a well-written story that entices children to want to to read it and other books. Rarely is there such a fine blending between the words of the author and the pictures of the illustrator. My students love this book and read it again and again.
One of the books I read the most!.......2000-09-21
The book put me in a good mood. It is in English, but there are some Spanish words that are hard to read sometimes. I really liked the part when the cat was sneaking up behind the bird. The cat then heard the five mice walking, and he started swinging his tail to the rhythm of their walking. The cat goes up to the gate and ends up scaring the mice. That was only one of the funny scenes. The book has one more funny part at the end that I don't want to give away. Anybody who reads this book will love it!

Midwest Mexican Food.......2006-01-26
The Good:
Lots of pretty pictures
Clear instructions
The Bad:
"The Book of Mexican Foods" by Christine Barrett lacks culturally important and interesting Mexican dishes. The book includes dubious Mexican recipes such as " Eggs With Potatoes & Ham" and others, while leaving out the following common and important dishes: menudo, barbacoa, chili rellenos, and pork rinds. I have owned this book for over ten years and have yet to use it.
A nice introduction to Mexican cooking.......2003-02-21
The easy-to-follow format and numerous, mouth-watering pictures make this book useful for a foray into Mexican cuisine. However, it is missing the recipe for chili rellenos.
Great introduction to Mexican cooking........2003-01-09
In its almost 50 parts, all written by experienced cooks and cook book writers, HP Books' "The Book of ... Cooking" series takes you to the cuisines of various regions of the U.S. and around the world; all in easy to follow, well-explained recipes.
This installment, the Book of Mexican Foods, starts with a brief introduction into the basic recipes of the Mexican cuisine, the necessary equipment and a glossary of ingredients, and then presents recipe suggestions for all major courses, from soups and starters to salads, vegetables, desserts and drinks. Special chapters are dedicated to egg and cheese dishes, seafood, poultry and (red) meat, and sauces. Lots of different varieties of all the classics (burritos, refried beans, stuffed bell peppers, caramel custard (flan), enchiladas, ceviche, chimichangas, tortillas, chili con carne, guacamole, margarita, mole poblano, nachos, picadillo, quesadillas, huevos rancheros, salsa, tamales, tacos and tequila drinks) appear next to unique recipes such as apricot and coconut balls, chocolate orange mousse, lamb with red wine, lemon tequila souffle, orange bread pudding, red snapper in cilantro, shrimp with chile cheese, spinach with pimento, and tuna and cheese casserole.
From almond jelly to wholewheat tortillas, this collection of recipes, while not all-encompassing, is a great introduction to the richness of the Mexican cuisine - and at a relative bargain price, to boot. Also recommended: This series' installments on Southwestern cooking, and on dips and salsas.
Tasty recipes for you & your family to enjoy!.......2002-04-14
Cookbook has an easy to follow format with photos for every recipe. At the beginning of the book the author does an introduction with a brief history of Mexican cooking, explains ingredients & equipment recommended. She has a basics section which shows how to make recipes such as corn tortillas, refried & regular beans, cooked tomato sauce. There are a lot of creative & tasty recipes to enjoy. Some ususual dishes included are: "Lemon-Tequila Souffle," "Chorizo & Cheese Crepes,"Vermicelli Soup," "Picadillo" & more. If you enjoy mexican food this cookbook is good for learning some of the basics. The dessert recipes are excellent! Wish the main dishes were more elaborate but the recipes in the book are good.

Book Description
This charming bilingual fable explains the origins of the all-important chile
Chiles ristras adorn the kitchen and dishes all over New Mexico. In the winter, when the nights grow longer and the winds blow stronger, chiles season meats and stews bringing New Mexico spice to every hungry taste bud. But chiles didn't always grow in New Mexico, and Ana Baca tells a special fable about Benito and the chiles that crawled all over his family's simple homestead.
Benito's mother sends him to the country fair in the hopes of their cow winning the first place prize. This would give them money to buy some seeds for the crop, but the cow misbehaves and they must leave the fair. Suddenly, Benito is stopped by a mysterious man with a peculiar bird on his shoulder. The man offers Benito some powerful seeds in exchange for his cow, which Benito quickly accepts. But when only uncontrollable weeds grow from the ground, Benito begins to feel foolish.
The neighboring farmers begin to complain that the relentless weeds are killing their crop. How will the community survive? Will the rapidly growing weeds ever bear fruit for Benito?
