Customer Reviews:
Delicious!!!.......2004-02-01
I'm giving this book 5 stars, and that's still not enough. The recipies are simple to make yet delicious. The meals are healthy and well balanced. Trust me, it's really very good. I definately recommend it to anyone who likes to eat good food.
The Secret of Life.......1999-04-10
The secret of life is Aline Benayoun's mint soup. Trust me, this book is fabulous and if the only recipe you do is the mint soup, you're way ahead. But don't stop there. The thing is, I'd marry someone who makes mint soup like this. Come to think of it, I did... her! Bon appetit. /JR

Book Description
This colorful book is a fascinating compendium of the hand-made, mold blown glassware produced for use in homes and businesses from the early twentieth century, on through the Depression era, and into the 1950s and '60s. This beautiful glassware, produced in Morgantown, West Virginia, is displayed in over 860 color photographs. The decorations that adorn this brilliant glassware are illustrated among the photographs. The reader will become familiar with the striking colors, etchings, cuttings, and cased filament stems used to make Morgantown glass distinctive and immediately appealing. Included in the text are a history of the Morgantown Glass Works (under various names and ownerships), a review of glass making techniques--including descriptions of specific techniques given by Morgantown employees themselves, and a survey of the decorative techniques employed by the firm. A detailed bibliography, an index, and values round out the presentation.
Customer Reviews:
A beautiful and helpful reference .......2006-05-29
I love this book as it opened my eyes to the beauty and rarity of Morgantown Glass (Economy Glass, Old Morgantown Glassworks, Morgantown Guild also included as this company went through huge changes trying to survive the Depression.) The pictures are exceptional, the information relevent and well-researched. The only problem I have with this reference tool is that it is hard to navigate for specific items. The Glossary is wonderful, but a bit murky as to which name or number goes with which item. Regardless, it is a stunning addition for any American glass collector.
Excellent Reference Book .. Highly recommended.......1999-08-25
Very well done reference book. Many well done pictures and large variety of product. I highly recommend this book.

Customer Reviews:
The Kovels are the best!.......2004-07-20
No collector's or dealer's library is complete without this book by the Kovel's.
Great Book.......2003-04-14
This book was well worth buying! Had the patterns I was interested, plus more, I've even started new collections from patterns I saw in this book. Great pictures, too. The Kovels did it again!
Incomplete, not recommended especially the beginner.......2001-03-23
This was the first reference book I purchased when I began collecting depression glass. Although there are color photos, few patterns are represented. The patterns of manufacturers are line listed at the end of the depression glass section but quite a few of the patterns are not represented in the detail (the most important) section of the book. Representation of the patterns detailed are in a very poor quality black and white, making it difficult to match a piece of glassware with the pattern. Although Kovel seems to be a well respected authority in a number of collectible arenas, I saw no sign of expertise in this book. I would not recommend this book to anyone especially beginners.
Kovels Depression Glass & Dinnerware Price List - 6th Editio.......2000-05-18
Super pictures to help identify types of glass, with good history of each. Exciting to see the actual worth of items. Perfect size book (not bulky) to take with you when exploring the antique stores. I highly recommend this book.

400 Trademarks on Glass
ASIN: 0764306650 |
Book Description
A nostalgic trip down the aisles of America's five-and-ten-cent stores, this book illustrates and describes the extensive variety of glassware that was available to everyday consumers in the Depression years. Once a staple item along "Main Street, U.S.A.," dime stores such as Ben Franklin, S.S. Kresge, McCrory, G.C. Murphy, J.J. Newberry, and F.W. Woolworth sold attractive, practical glassware at affordable prices, ranging from tableware, tumblers, and jugs to crystal stemware and artistic cut glass. Today this merchandise has become highly collectible and is escalating in both price and demand. Using over 240 images, many drawn from original catalogues and advertisements, author C. L. Miller provides an informative and enjoyable guide for both new and experienced collectors. A brief history of the dime stores' most prosperous years sets the stage, followed by a wide array of the glassware sold. Current values for all items are included.

Haeger Potteries through the Years
ASIN: 0764300563 |
Book Description
The industrial pottery at Abingdon, Illinois, made artware from 1934 to 1950 before returning to its mainstay, plum-bingware or sanitary-ware, as it was called at "The Pottery." Yankee ingenuity was used to cope with the Great Depression when managers came up with the idea of making artware using their usual "industrial strength" materials and processes. This decision resulted in artware with unusually strong bodies and glazes. For the veteran collector of Abingdon Pottery as well as the novice, this is an Encyclopedia of Shapes, a Dictionary of Colors, a Holy Grail of Collecting, richly illustrated in over 700 photographs and painstakingly researched. It also has a detailed value guide according to mold number and mold type.
Customer Reviews:
Abingdon Pottery.......2003-06-29
This book is fantastic! The information is very helpful and the pictures are some of the best I have seen in any collectors book! This book has given me the knowledge to amass a 600+ piece of Abingdon Pottery!
(P.S. Joe and Joyce Paradis have also written a book about the early days of Haeger Pottery that is equally as good as the Abingdon Book! I highly recommed both books!)
A must have for a pottery collector's library!.......2002-02-13
As an avid pottery collector, I have an ever growing collection of Pottery Collector's Guides. Abingdon Pottery Artware is one I refer to over and over again. Clear pictures of marks, stamps, labels and bottoms and an extensive price guide organized by mold number and alphabetized by mold type making identification a snap. This guide is filled with color pictures that I have found to be true to life glaze colors, each picture also includes mold numbers and production dates. One of my top 3 favorite collector's guides!
Abingdon Unveiled.......2000-02-28
Abingdon pottery is one of the hidden treasures of the Midwest that Joe Paradis has now shared with the rest of the world. I found the book after I had acquired a few pieces. It explains the unique quality of the product, such as the weight and the gloss. Paradis includes cross-referenced lists by item name and stock number. It is very comprehensive, readable, and the photography is excellent.
The Ultimate Guide to Abingdon Pottery........1998-06-19
Abingdon Pottery has been a little know piece of Americana until Joe Paradis and his outstanding book came along. Paradis covers the history of the pottery works, from the days of sanitary fixture making to the Depression when Art Pottery was made. Also discussed are the unique features of the actual pottery with excellent illustrations and interviews with the surviving members of the Depression Era staff. This book is a must for both collectors of Abingdon Pottery and those interested in American pottery in general.

Mauzy's Depression Glass: A Photographic Reference With Prices (Schiffer Book for Collectors)

Book Description
During the Great Depression, glass companies turned to machine-made methods to produce inexpensive, colorful glass. Due to its wonderful variety, availability, beauty, and usefulness, this type of glassware has endured to become one of the hottest collectibles on today's antiques market. This is the first book to extensively cover only Depression Era pink glass; pink was the most popular color of glassware then and has retained its popularity to the present day. It contains over 200 color photographs, examples of forty-five patterns, and brief histories of glass companies such as Bartlett-Collins, Cambridge, Federal, Fostoria, Hazel-Atlas, Imperial, Westmoreland, and others. This revised and expanded second edition features some new photographs and newly revised prices. It is an indispensable guide for all who collect Depression era glass and enjoy the beauty of pink glassware.
Customer Reviews:
Good beginner book, use to ID patterns.......2007-04-01
Does have lots of patterns, If you have a collection of pink you want to identify this is a good cheap book. The pictures are on colored backgrounds, distorting the colors. The glass is much prettier than it looks. Prices are OK, divide by 2 and that is what you should pay outside of a specialty/city dealer (with no chips, no obvious wear). Boy, some people going to hate that last sentence.
