5 out of 5 stars I Love This Handy Carb Counter!.......2004-02-18

I love this handy and compact carb counter! There are more than 4,000 food comparisons in this book that are in two user-friendly formats: alphabetical, and hi-low comparison charts. What's also great is that this book provides carb counts for eating out--including chain restaurants like Taco Bell, McDonald's, and Subway. Even carb counts for medications like cough drops and syrup are included!

The introduction includes a Body Mass Index (BMI) Chart, Range of "Desirable" Weights Chart, and an explanation of carbohydrates.

Sections include:

Beverages
Breads, Crackers, and Flours
Cereals
Combined and Frozen Foods
Dairy
Dining Out (Asian, Deli, Italian, Mexican, etc.)
Fast Food
Fruits
Gravies, Sauces, and Dips
Meats
Meats, Processed
Medications
Miscellaneous Foods
Nuts, Beans, and Seeds
Oils and Fats
Pasta, Whole Grains, Rice and Noodles
Poultry
Salad Bar Choices and Dressings
Seafood
Snack Foods and Chips
Soup
Sweets
Vegetables
Vegetarian Choices

The alphabetical charts compare items by letter. For example, under Sweets: Donuts you would find listings starting with Apple Fritter and ending with Sugared. In the Hi-Low Comparison Chart, however, the chart begins with the lowest carb count (Crueller, plain) and ends with the higest carb count (Jelly Stick).

This carb counter has it all, and I highly recommend it to those who are on low-carb diets such as Atkins, South Beach, and Curves For Women--as well as those who just want to lower their intake of carbs.

5 out of 5 stars Better Than ATKINS Counter Book.......2003-12-12

This is the BEST carb counter handbook I have ever found. It lists all foods I can think of (broken down by groups) both in alphabetical order AND in High / Low comparison.

Even if you are on a strict Atkins Diet, this book will serve you better than the Atkins handbook. More comprehensive and easier to use than Atkins. (I have both books.)

Did you know that Champagne has zero carbs? The Atkins handbook DOES NOT list champagne at all, but the Carbohydrate Addict's Counter book DOES list it. Just one of MANY examples where the this handbook beats the Atkin's handbook.

I lost my copy of this book and bought Atkins to replace it. What a disappointment Atkins handbook was. (And I'm even on the Atkin's diet.) I'm SO glad I found my copy of this handbook!

A lifesaver and an excellent investment!

I received this book fast. I was quite impressed with its excellent condition. Great buy

1 out of 5 stars Disappointed.......2002-04-13

I have used "The Carbohydrate Addict's GRAM COUNTER" for years and decided to get a new copy. The GRAM COUNTER has information on calories, carbs, fats and trigger foods. I ordered "The Carbohydrate Addict's CARBOHYDRATE COUNTER" and was very disappointed to find that it has only carbohydrate information. Now you have to purchase three books to get the same information that the 1995 version gave you for half the price.

3 out of 5 stars Mostly Disappointed.......2001-12-15

I guess this book does what it is intended to do (provide Carb counts), but I had one disappointment and one criticism...

My disappointment is that this really is only tied to the Hellers' Diet in spirit only. For example, some of the Hellers' "good" veggies have a higher carb count than some of their "bad" veggies; so if something in this counter book is lower carb than a "good" food, it doesn't necessarily make it a "good" food. I probably would've taken this book to the store with me if it had the Hellers' good and bad lists, too. As it is, I just kinda flipped through and said "huh" a couple of times; I don't think I'll be going back to it very much.

My criticism is that many foods from around the world - especially veggies - are not included. I found the listed foods rather mundane. We have a fantastic grocery in the area that carries an amazing selection of produce; if the nutritional information is not listed in the grocery (common for these 'exotic' items), I'm pretty much forced to pass on them. I was hoping this book would help me with that, but it doesn't.

a lot of "normal" foods are not found in this,... don't waste your money on this.

1 out of 5 stars You don't really need it..........2004-01-17

I ordered this along with the Lifespan Book. If you follow that program, they tell which foods you can eat throughout the day. You are not supposed to count carb grams. I have only opened this book twice. I only opened it the second time to search for a reason to use it... I didn't find one.

1 out of 5 stars Don't waste money on the gram counter.......2001-01-08

If you are a follower of the Carbohydrate Addict Lifespan Program you will quickly find (as I have) that this booklet is totally unnecessary! The whole idea behind the Carbohydrate Addicts books is that measuring is unnecessary. I would rather save the money for the Carbohydrate Addict's recipe book.

4 out of 5 stars This Book Knows It All.......2000-11-10

This is the perfect book for all who want to know what is in their food. It can be easily taken to the grocery with you for quick reference. This book also has all the most popular foods so you're almost sure everything you need is in it. This is a great gift for all who are concerned about their health, and for those who are just interested in what they are eating.

4 out of 5 stars Handy & Helpful.......2000-04-13

This handy little pocket book was a gift from my husband &has proved invaluable particularly while grocery shopping andrestaurant dining. I keep it in my purse for quick reference & many of my co-workers are now borrowing it during the day to see what they're eating. A great little book!

4 out of 5 stars Four and a half, really, for enticing glimpses at Morocco.......2007-05-26

`made in morocco' by Anzac (Australian and New Zealand) chef and culinary writer, Julie Le Clerc and fellow Anzac businessman and photographer, John Bougen, is a culinary travelogue, composed of four types of material. The first and most prominent is Bougen's folio-sized photographic spreads, which begin on the covers and simply don't quit throughout the book. The second is Mme. Le Clerc's recipes organized nominally by location, but more seriously by type of dish (by location). The third component is Mme. LeClerc's culinary introductions and characterizations of the culinary landscape at each Moroccan terroir. The fourth is the text by photographer Bougen, adding some meat to the understanding of the pictures.

Since I was attracted to this volume through a search for primarily culinary titles, my initial reaction was disappointment. As a culinary treatment of Morocco, it can't hold a candle to Paula Wolfert's famous and authoritative `Couscous and Other Good Food from Morocco'. But after reasonable reflection, I realized that the book has quite successfully accomplished its objective, in that it actually incited a desire in me to travel to Morocco. Even Miss Paula didn't do that. But then, that is the object of this book, to provoke an interest in the country in general through photography and culinary material.

Why then do I give this less than five stars! Mostly, it's for small things, such as inadequate captions to the luscious photographs. I would simply love to know what the large copper (or brass) kettle in the frontispiece picture is for, but nothing is offered to explain the setting or the unusual kitchen utensils therein. Another small item is that if you are doing a travelogue, put the map of the trip in the FRONT of the book! The rather anemic map is in the back of the book, just before the index, and it is a poor excuse for a map at that.

There is little attempt to characterize Moroccan cuisine in general (see Wolfert for that), but it is interesting to see a fine example of the fact that while Morocco is at the far western edge of the Mediterranean, west of Italy, France, and even Spain, its cuisine has much more in common with the Arab Levant than with its closer European neighbors bordering the Mediterranean. While Italy never gets too excited about sweet desserts, Morocco relishes them with all the gusto of Lebanon and Syria.

It's interesting to see the book end with what seem like excellent `travel notes', but there is no information on how best to travel to Morocco, just as there are no sources for Moroccan staples on the Internet.

This is a great little book to tease you into wanting to go to Morocco. It's culinary content is light, but all recipes are made easy for convincing entertaining in a Moroccan style. If you are adverse to hot, dry climates and want more culinary material, try Wolfert's book for a better analytical all-around grounding in Moroccan cuisine.

I have this book and have used it for several dinner parties. People love the meals and love looking through the cookbook. The fantastic photographs not only capture the the dishes perfectly, but also give an excellent glimpse of Morocco, the place. Julie Le Clerc is so good at translating the local foods into recipes that anyone can make. I envision many more wonderful meals from this cookbook.

                Book Description

On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners focusing on apparel and clothing accessories made of plastics or vulcanized rubber excluding hard rubber in Morocco face a number of questions. Which countries are supplying apparel and clothing accessories made of plastics or vulcanized rubber excluding hard rubber to Morocco? How important is Morocco compared to others in terms of the entire global and regional market? How much do the imports of apparel and clothing accessories made of plastics or vulcanized rubber excluding hard rubber vary from one country of origin to another in Morocco? On the supply side, Morocco also exports apparel and clothing accessories made of plastics or vulcanized rubber excluding hard rubber. Which countries receive the most exports from Morocco? How are these exports concentrated across buyers? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers? This report was created for strategic planners, international marketing executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for apparel and clothing accessories made of plastics or vulcanized rubber excluding hard rubber in Morocco. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics which appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for apparel and clothing accessories made of plastics or vulcanized rubber excluding hard rubber for those countries serving Morocco via exports, or supplying from Morocco via imports. It does so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models. In what follows, Chapter 2 begins by summarizing where Morocco fits into the world market for imported and exported apparel and clothing accessories made of plastics or vulcanized rubber excluding hard rubber. The total level of imports and exports on a worldwide basis, and those for Morocco in particular, is estimated using a model which aggregates across over 150 key country markets and projects these to the current year. From there, each country represents a percent of the world market. This market is served from a number of competitive countries of origin. Based on both demand- and supply-side dynamics, market shares by country of origin are then calculated across each country market destination. These shares lead to a volume of import and export values for each country and are aggregated to regional and world totals. In doing so, we are able to obtain maximum likelihood estimates of both the value of each market and the share that Morocco is likely to receive this year. From these figures, rankings are calculated to allow managers to prioritize Morocco compared to other major country markets. In this way, all the figures provided in this report are forecasts that can be combined with internal information sources for strategic planning purposes.

How much do the imports of mechanically made lace vary from one country of origin to another in Morocco? On the supply side, Morocco also exports mechanically made lace. Which countries receive the most exports from Morocco? How are these exports concentrated across buyers? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers? This report was created for strategic planners, international marketing executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for mechanically made lace in Morocco. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics which appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for mechanically made lace for those countries serving Morocco via exports, or supplying from Morocco via imports. It does so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models. In what follows, Chapter 2 begins by summarizing where Morocco fits into the world market for imported and exported mechanically made lace.
