I was looking for a cookbook that follows the guidelines of South Beach Diet and had quick, easy recipes for a busy lifestyle. This book is full of them! It doesn't have a lot of recipes for Phase I, which was a little disappointing. I think it's most important to hook people with good food during Phase I, otherwise they never make it to Phase II. Everything I've cooked so far tastes very good. The variety of recipes and ingredients is impressive. It goes very far to show that just because you're dieting doesn't mean you can't have tasty food.

There is a lot to The South Beach Diet that makes it so popular, and this cookbook makes a perfect addtion to the diet book. However, I think that we in North America, while chasing the perfect body, forgot about what really matters - the perfect health.

I am a creature that trusts everybody, but not without a dose of skepticism. Therefore I always make a point of trying new approaches on my own before expressing any opinion. After going trough The South Beach Diet I realized that Agatston is just updated version of old Atkins. Although these two low carb approaches certainly bring good results from the point of loosing weight, I am not really convinced that this is what one needs to focus on. First of all, it is a hard diet to follow, and sooner or later one is bound to break some of the rules. Secondly, I find that in a healthy diet we need carbs the same way as we need fats and proteins.

Out of all approaches to losing weight, the one that makes most sense to me is presented by Dr. Tombak in his book "Can We Live 150 Year" Using simple language he talks abut all aspect of health and longevity. Following some simple food combination guidelines, and not letting your stomach direct your actions are the basic things that one needs to do. As the author advises: "Eat to live instead of living to eat!" I think that this is the most important thing when considering nutrition. South Beach Diet is good and working, but Agatston missed this one point...

As long as you have the determination to "stick with it" and lose weight, this program, and this book, will make getting there a breeze! How tough can it be to stay on a diet, when you're allowed to eat all kinds of delicious, "sinful" foods??? For the first time in my life, I am 2 pounds lighter than before the holidays started; and, I didn't have to give up the joy of eating... I highly recommend this book and the program it represents. Recipes are not difficult and the results are most rewarding. Furthermore, you cannot beat the price at Amazon and the book was in my house, two days after I placed the order...

This is the first cookbook I have bought where I can see myself actually trying every recipe in it. Dr. Agatston has broken the book into specific holidays and events (Easter, Thanksgiving, Football parties, showers, etc.), but of course feel free to mix and match recipes based on what your preferred tastes are. The recipes that I have tried so far have been easy and delicious. The best part is at the end of every recipe, he tells you what you can prepare ahead of time, from hours before your event to days before your event. Each recipe is labeled as to which phase of the South Beach Diet it pertains, just as in his other books. This cookbook is too good to save just for holidays and parties. I'm planning on using it year-round for my family's everyday meals.

While several of these recipes seemed a bit dull to me, there were a few really good ones. I took this recipe book like a good starting point of where to begin but felt free to add my own flair and extra seasoning. For example, the Mediterranean pita sandwich is really just fabulous as a salad and even better if you substitute the garbanzo beans for black beans. Much better. My husband also loved the curry tomato soup. But its a great way to get low fat/ low sugar ideas and that's the point, isn't it?

This book is a great value if you are trying to live a healthy lifestyle but are bored with the same old grilled chicken breast. I have tried several receipes from this book and every one was a great success plus I see ways to use this cookbook during the winter if you have a foreman or some other type of electric grill for use in the winter. The only negative is that some of the receipes call for unusual spices that I don't keep on hand.

My wife and I have been on the South Beach Diet for about 9 months. The recipes in the other books are great but the ones in the Taste of Summer Cookbook are fantastic. I don't really feel like I'm on a diet when I eat foods prepared from these recipes. I would recommend this book to anyone, whether they are on a diet or not. The recipes are very heart healthy as well as delicious. The Turkey cutlets with Vegetable Couscous was one of my favorites as well as the spicy chicken and black bean tacos. All of the grilled chicken recipes are wonderful too. We are anxious to try all the recipes soon.

As an overweight general internist I started the South Beach diet because it is really a lifestyle change as opposed to that four letter word, "diet." The recipes are easy, fun, and actually very tasty. I recommend the South Beach plan and this cookbook to all my overweight patients.

A couple of years ago my girlfriend had a little girl and wanted to lose the extra baby fat she put on so she went out and bought this book. I have never been a fan of these diets but the book did intrigue me. I read through a lot of it and started to get interested in the recipes. The recipes my girlfriend made me where very good and flavorful. She ended up following the South Beach Diet and lost a good amount of weight. The first week is said to be a little hard but once you get past that week there are great and delicious recipes to make.

If you are one who loves to try out new and exotic recipes...this is for you. If you are looking for easy, quick recipes....not so much. It is nice, however, that the Phases are color coded so you know if the recipe is the right one for your phase. Included is a condensed over-view of the diet.

            Fitkid7 is a great book on childhood fitness & health. It covers the issues of exercising, healthy eating and much much more.

            I found it was easy to read (unlike a few others I've tried).

            I love all the sections on Recipies, Shopping lists, meal ideas etc.

            I would recommend FitKid7 to anyone looking for a book on kid's health. Your kids would love to read it just as I have.

            Yummm! I got a personal smoothie maker recently to help add more fruits into my diet. This book provided some tasty recipes to help. Easy instructions and something of everything. The recipe for the migraine soothing recipe works!

            `Smoothies for Life' by nutritionists, Daniella Chace and Maureen B. Keane is one of those books you dread when you pick up a book on food which claims to present an important nutritional point of view. As the book was written and published in 1999, there is a good chance that some of the nutritional information may be a bit out of date. I am not an expert on nutrition, but I sensed that the book did not give as much emphasis to blueberries as an ingredient as you will see in current books. And, I was just a little suspicious of the totally negative slant given to whole milk, due to its saturated butter fat. From my view of nutrition from the outside looking in, I sense that butterfat may have made something of a recovery in reputation over the last few years, with the demonization of transfats in butter substitutes.

            The thing which dismayed me the most about the book was the heavy reliance on health store speciality ingredients such as vitamin C power, brewer's yeast, flaxseed oil, protein powder, and liquid herbal supplement. A lesser dismay was the discovery of a few misspelled words.

            My suspicion of the purported mojo obtained from brewer's yeast and protein powder is entirely personal and I point that out only because I suspect there may be others who are turned off by any recipe which requires a trip to some speciality store.

            The other side of the coin is the fact that this book has great value if you are especially fond of smoothies. I was pleased, for example, to see the warning about giving honey as an ingredient in smoothies to children under the age of two. This is probably almost as important as good sanitation practices with chicken and eggs, yet I have never seen this warning outside of a book all about honey. On the other hand, I suggest you take the authors' recommendations about the value of herbs with a grain of salt. I suspect the pharmaceutical efficacy of many herbs may have been a bit inflated 10 years ago. Most modern research detects not much more than placebo effects.

            If, like me, all you really wanted was a few good recipes for smoothies, try the appropriate volume from `Better Homes and Gardens'. If, however, you already make regular trips to you local GNC, then this may be the book for you!

            I found this book to be extremely helpful at adding special ingredients and supplements into my diet. The book is layed out in a way that makes it easy to read and use. If you're going to be making smoothies this is the title to get you going

            I owned 'Juicing for Life' long before buying this book. I liked that one, so I bought the smoothie book when it came out. As a believer in the power of juice consumption, I found this book to be an excellent reader also. This is more than another 'fun' smoothie book for those looking for entertainment. It's broken down by chapters into "Energizers", "Power Makers", "Calorie Burners", "Immunizers", etc., in its 11 chapters of recipes. Specific ingredients for specific goals. The explanations of ingredients needs are excellent, as they were in her juicing book.

            One caveat: don't expect all the recipes in this book to be low-cal, as they aren't. Tahini and peanut butter are two common ingredients. That may or may not be important to the reader.

            Another caveat: depending on where the reader lives, some of the ingredients may be difficult or impossible to buy in smaller areas. E.G. flaxseed and other uncommon oils, algae, and a number of vitamin powders.

            For those who want health information as well as smoothie recipes this makes an excellent book for reading, and deciding applicability to one's own health goals.

            The smoothies are delicious, nutritious, and easy to make. I love the way the book is organized by desired benefits (there are smoothies for stress reduction, weight loss, energy, athlete's needs, healthy skin, and more.) The authors, Daniella and Maureen ROCK!
