Customer Reviews:
A nice, if anticlimactic, team-up (mild spoilers).......2006-03-31
A fairly good novel by Askegren, with the two superteams joining forces amid mutual distrust to fight Barons Zemo and Strucker.
Unfortunately, the end goes out with a whimper rather than a bang; that this managed to happen even during a fight in Hydra's secret headquarters is a bit of a surprise.
Great Comic reading in paperback.......2001-12-06
This book did a fabulous job of transferring what we see in the comics we buy each week into words only and getting it just right. I was very pleased with the author's handling of the character of Thor in particular, as he is my personal favorite, but all the characters were well handled and well written. The story was excellent overall. Marvel, give us more of THIS!!!!
Best comic book team in a book?.......2001-02-08
Yes this book has it all, Action great writing super heroes like captain america thunderbolts and others. If you like the comics of either of these two teams then you have to get this book no Q's about it as this is just like a well wrote comic book but i think it will even get non comic fans to read it. To finish i just have to say that this is a must for any fan of the avengers!
The best marvel novel there was.......2000-01-01
This book was action packed. This the best team up since the Time Arrow Trilogy, with the X-Men and Spider Man. A must have for all Marvel readers.
Poorly written story.......1999-06-05
Like the Time's Arrow Trilogy, this book also suffers from being too much like a comic in novel form. Too much action and not enough character development. The Thunderbolts is a poorly written comic and the characters there have little need to be used in the novels. Pierce Askegren is a good writer but even he couldn't make this story go in any creative or interesting direction.
Customer Reviews:
Nice story.......2006-02-14
The original Thunderbolts together again at last! It seems that the thunderbolts have finally gotten the respect they deserve, the people have finally decided to forgive them and Baron Zemo has come up with a plan to use that trust for his own benfit. Captain America however isn't buying it that Zemo has become a good guy and sets a trap for Zemo and his gang. This is a very interesting read, I promise you that you won't regret it. The TBolts have grown alot since they first hit the scene, especially SongBird (one of my favorites). Kurt does a beautiful job and the art is good too! And oh yes, a surprise guest star makes an appearance! The sexy ... er cute and young JOLT! Former Member of the team, and Moral Compass for this band of delinquients trying to play 'hero'.
The Thunderbolts as they should be.......2005-08-24
This is the Thunderbolts as they should be. A group of villains acting as heroes, and the reader is forced to wonder whether their actions are in the world's best interest, or just their own.
Co-Written by Kurt Busiek, the creater of the Thunderbolts and acclaimed Avengers scribe, and Fabian Nicieza, who has been writing the Thunderbolts for years, this is an excellent story of trust and intrigue.
The Thunderbolts are poised to save the world from itself, and the Avengers don't trust them. Hawkeye, former leader of the Thunderbolts want to give them the benefit of the doubt, but no one else, including the Avengers butler Jarvis trusts the former Masters of Evil. An Avenger infiltrates the Thunderbolts disguised as a known villain, which raises doubt as to whether the Avengers themselves can be trusted.
The characters are well written, including my personal favorite Moonstone, a brilliant female psychiatrist who may also be the most powerful person on the planet. The story is interesting, and the dual nature of the characters leaves you questioning what's really happening until the very end. The artwork is excellent, and I really feel that Tom Grummet is coming into his own as one of the best superhero artists in the biz.

A must!.......2000-06-05
When I first started out, I did not know how much to serve and how to break down my expenses. After reading this book, that information was no longer a mystery. It is precisely what the beginner needs and what the experienced can use for reference. Not only does it contain information on what to charge and spend, it sets up scenarios that illustrate what the author is referring to. There are recipes that are fresh and practical and interesting.

5 stars for these fresh ideas for a complete marketing strategy in a modern arts venue.......2006-02-25
Sometimes there are publications, which are long awaited by professionals, and people wonder why no author had the idea earlier to cover this topic. The Complete Guide to Foodservice in Cultural Institutions is such a book. Dedicated to high frequented attractions like art museums, concert halls, or Zoos, it serves as a key guide to offer services which are in fact the secret of hospitality and visitor orientation in a cultural venue.
Arthur M. Manask, a foodservice consultant in California, introduce both easy-to-understand issues and unexpected opportunities of how to develop an own service in catering, offer refreshments and organize regular special events combined with meal and drinks. As simple it sounds, as hard it might be for smaller organisation with limited staff. Manask introduces some solutions as a combination of internal and external human resources. Catering companies are growing not only in the US, so the chance to find appropriate partners whose assist in establish successful food services, is high.
The publication cares not only about exclusive content, it has an exclusive outfit, too. We can strongly recommend to buy this book - fresh ideas for a complete marketing strategy in a modern arts venue. We can award it with 5 stars - like for a restaurant.--Dirk Heinze, Arts Management Network

Serving Alcohol from A-Z.......2006-12-20
Owning a business where alcohol is served, while profitable, has never been more dangerous than it is today. From under-age drinkers to inebriated customers and everything that falls in between, a business must be proactive in protecting their assets. All it takes is one honest mistake to land yourself on a "watch list" or even worse - fines and license suspension.

Dugan provides a step-by-step training manual that is easy to follow and simple to implement. There is even a CD included that contains every chart and form in the book so that you can print it out and put it to use in your daily routine.
Dugan gives us a comprehensive training program covering issues such as management responsibilities, types of customers, training and staff concerns, legal matters, and assessing customer. Following the policies and procedures outlined in this book is a solid step towards protecting your future, growing your business, and avoiding litigation. This book is a must-read for anyone who serves alcohol as a business. People who host private parties would do well to read this book also, especially during this holiday season!
Takes a Serious Look at a Serious Issue.......2006-06-16
Restaurants that sell alcohol work with a double edge sword. The alcohol sales are beneficial because it ups the revenue for these businesses but there are also many laws which govern the industry which can cause headaches if these laws are not followed. The authors of this book do a fabulous job of how to serve alcohol properly to protect not only the restaurant but the individual who is selling the alcohol as well.
The book is easy to follow and to understand. It begins by having simple definitions which everyone who serves alcohol must know such as what alcohol is, what the effects are on the body, what BAC stands for and what it is important. It also goes into detail about the different things that can affect the BAC in an individual; how many drinks, if they have eaten food, amount of alcohol in a drink, and the size of the person. It also goes into complete detail on the types of alcohol regulations that are out there.
The second section of the book goes into how the managing of the alcohol should occur and how to deal with those issues which are bound to come up such as minors, how to hire good bartenders, what type of licenses are needed, and how to cut someone off when need be. It also has a section on what to do when a legal issue comes up, such as hiring a good lawyer, and keeping documentation.
Section three is how to train the employees which are going to handle the alcohol. It goes into detail about the many parts of the training process from checking identification to watching the client for signs of having too much drink. The authors also suggest that each of the employees also have refresher courses every so often when needed. The book will likely benefit many in the restaurant industry and show that with responsible service of alcohol, everyone wins.
Its specific, well-detailed information is priceless for any serious food industry holding.......2006-05-25
College-level collections with schools strong in culinary and food management courses will want to keep THE RESPONSIBLE SERVING OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES: A COMPLETE STAFF TRAINING COURSE FOR BARS, RESTAURANTS, AND CATERERS in the collection both as a reference and as a circulating item. Two years have gone into the making of this comprehensive manual which blends the legal issues with the ethical issues involved in serving alcohol professionally: management and liquor service staff receive all the knowledge allowing them to responsibly serve alcohol in licensed premises, from understanding BAC levels and the law to checking ID, handling difficult customers, and more. While the price tag may be hefty for a standard-sized paperback, its specific, well-detailed information is priceless for any serious food industry holding.

A Conscientious, Must Have Guide.......2006-05-24
Stop, Look, and Listen! should be the subtitle of this excellent resource guide. Beth Dugan starts with a chapter called What is Alcohol?, and does not let up until she concludes with a creative section of "modules." These training modules contain the most valuable information this guide provides. From calculating drinking ages, checking ID's, understanding state laws, identifying intoxication and understanding a customer's rate of consumption, she offers a resource guide that can assist new as well as experienced bar owners. Serving alcoholic beverages at your establishment can increase revenues and turn into an enjoyable experience; but can also open you up to a myriad of legal issues. This invaluable book walks you through the steps on how to responsibly serve alcohol, how to train a competent and responsible staff and how to handle emergencies. Although included in the book, the accompanying CD-ROM presents handy details such as state law information, easy to read charts on calculating alcohol content, and the previously mentioned modules. As an extra, the CD-ROM also offers printable versions of the posters included in the book that promote responsible drinking. Overall, this book is a must-have tool for any bar owner, restaurant operator or caterer; a resource that has the information to prepare you for the many challenges faced when serving alcoholic beverages in your food service business, and one that encourages you to responsibly embrace the opportunity.
Very Informative.......2006-05-12
This book is an excellent read for anyone that will be serving alcohol in a professional capacity. I didn't know what to expect when I picked it up, but I was happy to find tips on detecting whether someone is drunk, suggestions on how to keep up profits while limiting the amount of alcohol a customer consumes, and much more.
There is a guide for training staff members on how to recognize fake IDs, pouring drinks properly and just about anything else you can think of that would help keep patrons from becoming too inebriated.
I like that the author makes a point to say how things differ in various states and then has an appendix which shows each state and what categories they fall in. I also liked the CD-ROM that came with the book. It has charts in it that were used in the book - such as the alcohol absorption rate diagram. It's really great stuff. There are also worksheets on the CD-ROM that can be used in combination with the suggested training.
The only thing that I didn't love about the book was that in the beginning the author provides some information that isn't entirely relevant - such as what alcohol is, what it means to be drunk vs. alcoholism. Things like this are common sense to most people. But all in all, this is a very helpful book that anyone looking to start up a restaurant, bar or catering service should look into.

This is the place to start!.......2006-09-23
This is very old school, but has set the standards in the industry for the past 20+ years. We often forget our manners and get caught up in a technological world. Just step back in time for a few moments and refresh your business. This book is REALLY hard to find.
Excellent resource for the professional.......2000-01-23
The author definately pinpoints and focuses on every aspect of catering. The book is really a resource book for a person in the industry or preparing to develop their own operation. The only concern is that for the price, the book looks as if it is copied. All pictures are in black & white.
