Book Description
A game of power, treachery, and violence plays out over possession of advanced alien technology discovered buried on the Moon. These "Emblem Seeds" can unleash incredible power, but only a few are capable of wielding that power, and those who can are as valuable as the technology itself. Separatist corporate terrorists have hijacked a shuttle to Earth with the intent of kidnapping one such paranormal, Kei Heidemann, but U.N. agents, led by the beautiful and deadly Attim M-Zak are out to spoil their plot. But if the agents fail, not only will Kei fall into enemy hands, but the crippled shuttle will collide with Earth's orbital elevator, cutting off the moon colonies and setting the stage for the Moon's independence... and potential war with Earth!
Customer Reviews:
Great action.......2006-06-29
The seperatists have hijacked the orbital shuttle on which Sunao, Kei, and Attim are riding. Also Dr. Heideman, Kei's adoptive father is there as well, and both the serpartists and the UN agents seem to think he makes a great hostage. There are some great fights between Attim and the hijackers. Sunao's power continues to grow. And we learn more about the reasoning behind the lunar revolutionaries plot. The artwork is, as always, amazing. The characters, the fights, the backgrounds are all beautiful. The writing is okay. The character interactions are good but some of the bad guys talk too much (but then isn't that what villains are supposed to do). Just like the previous five books, this book amazing to look at and fun to read. It ends on a "to be continued" note, so I'm eagerly awaiting the next volume.

Book Description
The lure of powerful alien technology discovered on a buried alien starship on the dark side of the moon is the nexus for an international, even interplanetary, game of power, deception, and violence. The key players: Sunao Oumi, a young paranormal unwittingly caught up in the maelstrom; M-ZAK, a beautiful (and lethal) super-agent; Kei Heidemann, Sunao's back-from-the-dead former love; and Apep Heidemann, Kei's brother, a mysterious scientist who has harnessed the alien craft's unimaginable power. M-Zak and Sunao are on the trail of vicious kidnappers who've taken Kei hostage. The kidnapping is only part of a plot by the DyKstra Corporation to stage a coup and take control of the moon from UN forces, with a final goal to make the moon independent from Earth!
Customer Reviews:
Things begin to make more sense.......2006-05-28
If you've read all the previous volumes of Seraphic Feather then you're probably pretty confused. This volume begins to explain a few things, though certainly not everything. We find out a about where Kei came from and why she isn't any older. Sunao's powers continue to develop. A number of shadow players unveil their plans for the moon.
That's not to say that everything is explained. Indeed with the new characters showing up, more questions are raised.
As always the art in these books are far more beautiful and far more impressive than the writing. The people and the futuristic vistas are gorgeous, the action is thrilling and full of energy. The quality of the art alone is worth the price of the book.
great art...reading it not as fun.......2005-07-28
Seraphic feather is a futuristic story that takes place in the moon, i quite don't understand whats the role of each character yet, but they all gather in the moon after some tragedy ocurred, each character looking for a mysterious item called the emblem seed.
The story in itself is not as interesting and the way is told is very complex...it has a lot of flashback that instead of adding to the mystery of the characters just confuses you...but who cares? hiroyuke utatane is one of the best manga artists i've seen...his style is unique the moment you see the interior art it will grip you...the sexyness of the characters (both male and female) and the action scenes are worth taking a look

Book Description
In the not-too-distant future, an intact alien starship has been discovered buried beneath the moon's surface, a vessel with awesome technology somehow connected to three powerful `Emblem Seeds` found on Earth. Sunao Oumi, a young man stuck on the moon and trying to work up the funds to return to Earth, takes an assignment to escort two visiting U.N. investigators and is drawn into a web of violence and intrigue as dark operatives try to purloin the Emblem Seeds the investigators have brought with them. But the investigators are more than they seem: Attim M-Zak, a beautiful and mysterious woman with deadly augmented abilities, and Kei, a starry-eyed dreamboat from Sunao's past...whose death brought Sunao to the moon in the first place!
Customer Reviews:
I think we are missing some details here..........2003-04-15
Now, I know that some things need to be kept secret until the end or it will spoil the story, but this is too much. I feel as though I have been dropped into the middle of the story. There is no background on any of the characters or the Emblem Seeds, or even the reason why people have moved to the moon in the first place! I would like to know how the characters know each other and exactly what is so special about the Emblem Seeds, but neither this volume nor the next contain that information.
Be warned--there is some nudity (not much) and gore (buckets full) so you might want to consider something else if you are not mature enough to handle this kind of stuff.
Gorgeous Drawing, Unfathomable Plot.......2002-09-07
Five stars for artwork, three for the plot. Actually, the plot isn't quite *that* unfathomable, but the strong point of Seraphic Leather isn't linear narrative. Basically it's an SF story about alien starships crashed on the moon with an awkward but loving telekinetic hero (Sunao), who rescues virginal and adorable Kei from an explosion in Luna City -- although he thought she had been killed in an accident years before. She used to be older than Sunao, too -- and that's only the first episode. After a while we meet the magnificently beautiful Attim M-Zak, a UN Special Investigator who is on the moon to find out what's with even more (!) mysterious doings concerning the Emblem Seeds. Various baddies like Rix Hayward wander in and get their butts kicked by Attim, and then we meet Number Four, an alien robo-thingie, but just wait -- it get's more complicated. If you're like me and enjoy over-the-top sci-fi adventure, you'll love the plot; otherwise, probably not. But the artwork! Utatane is one of the great masters of manga, and his drawings are breathtakingly beautiful -- not merely his women (Kei, Attim, Fawn), but also his page layout and design. Early on there is a marvelous drawing of the wrecked lunar station. If you buy it for the artwork alone, it'll be well worth it.
Great artwork!.......2002-05-04
Former artist for COUNTDOWN tones down his ecchi for a whole lot of cheesecake in this smooth new manga. In a slight mixing between TOTAL RECALL and the anime BOUNTY DOG, this story takes place in the future where humanity has colonized the moon. There, they have discovered the remains of an ancient living alien starship that has some connection to three mysterious stones recently found on Earth named Emblem Seeds. The young Sunao goes to the moon to visit the grave of his deceased childhood friend, but ends up being stuck there after running out of money. So now he does odd jobs to try to earn enough to get home. While at the same time Sunao realizes he has gained what is called "meta-talents" which give him slightly psychic abilities. This ties into the group who has found the alien craft, and their leader Apep has harnessed its powers and wishes to use them to gain ultimate knowledge. He has requested that the Emblem Seeds from Earth be brought to the moon for study. The Seeds are being delivered by a girl who bares a strong resemblence to Sunao's departed friend who also has psychic powers. SERAPHIC FEATHER has alot going for it with a compelling plot and fine character development. Read it!
Excellent graphic novel!.......2002-04-17
This new series is looks very good to me. I just read this first intallment and I enjoyed it greatly. I especially like the artwork in this novel, its the style I prefer. The illustrator is also skilled at drawing pretty women as the previous review says. The plot hasn't gotten too deep yet, I'm still clueless as to what the Emblem seeds are, and the antagonist only had a few frames of dialogue. Most of this book was spent focused around Sunao, Attim-Zak, and Kei. Sunao is the protagonist who is gifted with mental powers which also dont get explained at all. I assume that the trio will stick together and join to fight the evil forces. I'll find out soon enough. I'm looking forward to the next installment of Seraphic Feather.
Pretty Women . . . Not Much Else.......2002-01-17
Not much really to say about this book, but that the artist Hiroyuki Utatane is very gifted in drawing beautiful women. The main female character of the series Attim M-Zak is an extraordinarily beautiful young woman, and the other main female character is as cute as a button. The book, however, lacks story. It seems to be yet another Sci Fi series with a bunch of busty scantily clad women and a bishonen main bad guy . . . with angel wings. The main plot seems to be so far a guy named Sunao went to the moon because a friend of his Kei, a different Kei apparently, was killed in a Lunar base explosion. He runs into the oter Kei who just happens to look like his deceased friend. Attim M-Zak is an United Nations agent sent to protect Kei because she has an Emblem Seed. We don't find out what these are in this book. the bishonen bad guy is after them though. Please excuse this disjointed review it is as disjointed as the book. I will continue reading it though it might get better. Hopefully anyway.

Customer Reviews:
A good book, but the plot is a tad confusing..........2003-04-14
I love the art in this book--it's elegant, clear, and nicely done. The story however, needs work. I have the first two books, and I have yet to understand most of what they are talking about. What are the Emblem Seeds? They tell us where they found them, but not what they are. We have yet to learn the connection between the Seeds and their holders, or what the purpose of the Seeds is. And the wording is so...unusual...that it is taking me some time and several re-readings just to try and figure out what the author is trying to say.
By the way, this is a very...adult series. There is not really any nudity, but the female characters are so overendowed that you begin to wonder how they can stand. And there is gore--one of the female characters gets blown in half, and her...resurrection is shown in very bloody and graphic detail.
So, this is not a series for the fragile. If you think you can deal with seeing body parts ripped off and people cut in two and a great deal of blood and organs, then give Seraphic Feather a try. If not, well, there are other choices out there.
This looks to be a good series, but I would rather know some vital information that I think I missed somewhere. And I wish I had known about the horror aspect.

Wanda and Giovanna Tornabene run a restaurant in Gangivecchio, their 600-year-old family home in Sicily. This is their second cookbook, and it focuses on home cooking, Sicilian style. Italians are well known for their generous hospitality, and the Tornabene women are great ambassadors. Through dozens of personal stories, some funny, some sad, they invite you into their home to sit at their kitchen table while they reminisce, gossip, educate, and feed you some of the most enjoyable comfort food and conversation you've ever experienced.
Wanda was born in Palermo but has lived in Sicily for more than 50 years. She learned to cook from her mother-in-law and passed those lessons down to her daughter. She admits that she was reluctant to share her secret family recipes, but has found great joy and pleasure in doing so. The conversation in the Tornabene home wanders from nutty old Aunt Elvira who collected bus-ticket stubs and used matches to Eggs Poached in Fresh Tomato Sauce. Granny Elena's Bean and Pasta Soup warms the soul, and the naughty escapades of Ciccio, one of Gangivecchio's dogs, will make you laugh. Aromatic Risotto with Gorgonzola and Fennel may be dinner the night you read about Felice, the little lamb who was allowed into bed after he was bathed, but Wanda's Veal Cutlets served with a flavorful sauce made with garlic, onions, tomatoes, and a dash of cayenne will still make your mouth water. Stories of parties with family and friends entice you to make Sicilian-style pizzas topped with four cheeses, zucchini, and thyme or potatoes, sausage, and rosemary, or maybe you'll treat the crowd to "Midnight Spaghetti" variations like Spaghetti with Garlic, Oil, and Hot Pepper or Ruote with Radicchio and Gorgonzola. Sicilian sweets like Ricotta Tart with Nuts and drinks like Strawberry Liqueur round out the menu and ensure that you'll be back to visit with the Tornabene women of Gangivecchio again and again. --Leora Y. Bloom
Book Description
"To know and be close to your family, nothing is more important than dining together at home, as often as possible, on delicious home cooking. Salute!"
--Wanda Tornabene, from the Introduction
Four years after winning the 1997 James Beard Award for Best Italian Cookbook, Wanda Tornabene and her daughter, Giovanna, return with a glorious second helping of homestyle recipes.
Sicilian Home Cooking offers more charming stories and rustic, delicious dishes from the kitchen of Gangivecchio, the Tornabenes magnificent thirteenth-century abbey in Sicily's Madonie Mountains.
As in the award-winning La Cucina Siciliana di Gangivecchio, here you'll find a wonderful array of simple, mouthwatering recipes for antipasti, soups, pasta, rice, meat, fish, vegetables, salads, and desserts including easy and delicious variations on bruschetta, the hearty Fagioli e Festoncini di Nonna Elena (Granny Elena's Bean and Pasta Soup), enticing entrees like Cotolette di Vitello di Wanda (Wanda's Veal Cutlets) and Gamberi in Crosta alla Gangivecchio (Gangivecchio's Shrimp en Croute), and sublime desserts like Cartocci (Fried Pastry Coils with Ricotta Cream) and Gelo di Caffe (Coffee Gelatine).
Sicilian Home Cooking also offers some tempting new sections. Egg Dishes showcases this essential ingredient in beautiful frittatas. Pizza and Focaccia is a salute to these most Italian of breads, adorned with fresh toppings. The section on couscous teaches the traditional method for this Arab speciality, which Sicilians have adopted as their own. Wines and Liqueurs gives recipes for homemade, refreshing libations, including the Italian favorite, Limoncello.
The homestyle recipes are nothing short of fantastic; but what makes this book even more special is that Wanda and Giovanna welcome you not only into their kitchen but also into their lives at Gangivecchio. In stories rich with the fragrant atmosphere of the gorgeous Sicilian countryside, they share memories of the annual grape harvest, a special Christmas snowstorm, and an illicit childhood trip on a commercial fishing boat. They describe favorite local restaurants and dishes from the past and the present. And they tell funny and touching stories of relatives, friends, and pets; both old and new.
Sicilian Home Cooking is a cookbook and much more; a true slice of Sicilian life.
Customer Reviews:
Lots of nice, useful and easy to prepare recipes........2004-09-18
There are great vegetable "recipes" (really no more than a few lines)using mint, anchovy, etc. that will give you a flair for Sicilian cooking: asparagus, potato and mushroom cake, cauliflower pizza, fennel and artichoke salad, cucumber and caper salad, white bean salad. The pasta recipes are also nice, slightly different takes on what most people have already had: fettucine carbonara with vegetables, lemon spaghtetti, ruote with radicchio and gorgonzola, fettucine with yellow peppers, and about a dozen more. I think the appetizers are the best part: sicilian sweet and sour meatballs(don't think pink), bruschetta with swordfish and mint, caponata, artichoke tart with sardines and ricotta (I think its similar to the american artichoke and mayonaisse recipe going around), olive marinades, gorgonzola and pear tart. Good book, but yes, you need to have some experience in the kitchen to know when they've left some steps out. For instance the preparation of artichokes requires baby artichokes. Some dishes are very heavy, like baked eggs with bechamel sauce. You have to know what will be appropriate to serve as an appetizer, etc. Chicken's probably easiest prepared by using bone-in, skin-on pieces rather than cutting up a whole chicken. But there's a lot of inspiration and a lot to learn from these women. I definitely think it's worth buying if you know your way around a kitchen, regardless of what cuisine you're most familiar with.
Easy-to-use, entertaining cookbook with yummy recipes.......2001-08-22
The authors, Wanda Tornabene and her daughter, Giovanna Tornabene, are co-owners of Gangivecchio, a restaurant housed in a thirteenth-century abbey in Sicily's Madonie Mountains. In addition to providing scrumptious, authentic Sicilian recipes, this cookbook is great fun to read, because these two world-class chefs also offer many funny stories of their colorful relatives, friends and pets.
Their detailed table of contents, thorough index, and menu plans guide you easily through the book, and the recipes are divided into these convenient sections: appetizers, soups, egg dishes, pizza and focaccia, pasta, couscous, rice, meat main-course dishes, fish and seafood main-course dishes, vegetables, salads, desserts, wines and liqueurs.
I, personally, am on a high-protein diet, and one might wonder what someone like me could possibly get from a cookbook whose recipes all hail from the land of pasta. Actually, quite a lot. The vegetable, meat and seafood dishes are delicious, low-carb, and not horribly time consuming to make. And it is crucial on a special diet to, as much as possible, find things that taste good to eat our you won't stay on it. All of these recipes are packed with flavor. Here are some examples of my personal favorites from the vegetable-dishes section: Syracuse-Style Peppers (olive oil, salt, mint leaves, garlic, and vinegar for seasoning), Country-Style Eggplant (olive oil, vinegar, oregano, mint, and hot pepper flakes for seasoning), Gangi-Style Artichokes (onions, green olives, capers, celery hearts, vinegar, and pepper for seasoning).
In addition, even those of us on a high-protein diet can occasionally have bread. And, as for me, if I am going to indulge, I much prefer to eat really great bread, such as the terrific focaccia in this cookbook. The authors furnish a basic focaccia dough recipe from which you can spring off into many variations such as broccoli focaccia, focaccia with onions and tomatoes, spinach focaccia, and focaccia stuffed with arugula, sun-dried tomatoes and/or cheese.
I highly recommend this cookbook for inexperienced as well as seasoned cooks, whether cooking for themselves alone, or for their families and friends. If you love Italian cooking, you'll adore these Sicilian recipes!
