Book Description

If changing what you eat could keep you from getting cancer, wouldn't you do it?Dr. Hatherill's Super Eight Food Groups are the foundation of a strategy that will help you create a cancer-busting regimen for yourself and your family. In this courageous book, Hatherill takes on the pharmaceutical and food industries to disclose dangers inherent in common foods like dairy and meat products, as well as over-the-counter supplements."In...humbler times people rarely got cancer...Heart disease was so rare that medical textbooks from the mid-to late 1800s failed to include it. Something has gone fundamentally wrong in present times, as heart disease and cancer have emerged as the two most vexing killers in affluent countries...This book can help you convert your diet into a defensive anticancer solution. Throughout these pages you will be given practical techniques for solving the health problems that arise from eating a Western diet. Eat to Beat Cancer has identified the most protective, beneficial foods from around the globe and placed them in one simple, straight-forward diet." --from the introduction

5 out of 5 stars Is cancer preventable? Most is..........2005-09-29

General Content: Cancer is one of leading causes of death in our world and contrary to what many people believe, most cancers are preventable. Proper diet plays a key role in preventing cancer and this title by Dr. Hatherill is one of the best resources I've seen for building a cancer-fighting diet. The beautiful part about the recommendations in this audiobook is that they won't just help you to prevent cancer. They'll also help prevent heart disease, strokes and a whole host of other maladies in addition to helping you to shed excess weight. Perhaps most importantly the book contains information on helping to reduce the likelihood that your children will contract cancer.

One of the things that I liked best about this book was that it drew upon information from a number of different countries around the world. Certain countries have very low rates of certain types of cancer so it makes a lot of sense to study them in an attempt to determine what they are doing right. For example, the Japanese have a low rate of lung cancer despite high rates of smoking which seems unusual. However, Dr. Hatherill points out that factors in their diet such as their increased use of soy and consumption of green tea helped to ward off lung cancer. Information like this makes this title a goldmine for anyone looking to reduce their chances of contracting cancer.

Audio-Specific Content: "Eat to Beat Cancer" is read by the author who does a great job. I listened to the abridged version which contained two cassettes and lasted approximately 3 hours. The abridgement was fine but given the amount of excellent information in the audiobook, I'm tempted to go out and buy the book to see what else is in there.

4 out of 5 stars Good, Informative Read.......2004-04-09

This book is an eye-opener. Lots of very interesting information and a good tool to eat healthier, and glean an understanding into eating properly.

5 out of 5 stars The only dietary guide you'll ever need.......2003-12-20

My copy is out on loan (as it often is) so I went on Amazon to get the publication details for including this book in the recommended reading section of my own new book, Younger by the Day (HarperSanFrancisco, December 2004). I was shocked to see only four reviews and that they weren't all 5 stars. This book is fabulous, truly the only guide you'll ever need for disease prevention, nutrition---even weight loss, since if you eat all the health plant foods Dr. Hatherill recommends, you'll lose weight while you protect yourself from cancer and other degenerative diseases. Not only is Eat to Beat Cancer comprehensive and packed with valuable information, it is useful and practical: you can take its ideas to the grocery store and the restaurant and use them in real life every day. When I first read this book three years ago, I typed up Dr. Hatherill's list of the 8 cancer-fighting food groups and put it on my refrigerator. To this day, I know what to include in my diet on a daily basis; so do my husband and daughter. Please: Do yourself a favor and buy this book. And I should buy another one---one for me, one as a loaner.

5 out of 5 stars If You Want to Eat Better--Read This Book!.......1999-05-05

This is a wonderful Book. The Author clearly knows a great deal about diet, preventing cancer, and how to simply eat more sensibly--and importantly, he is able to convey this message in a clear and convincing way. Notably, he recommends the sorts of foods and preparation methods that are not only better in a health sense, but that are also quite tasty to boot. Since reading this book, I have adopted a better diet--Thank You, Dr. Hatherill!! I look forward to reading the next book you write on this subject . . . and hopefully, you will do so soon!

5 out of 5 stars Extremely informative and motivating.......1999-04-04

I found this book not only informative, but easy enough for a layperson to understand so that you are motivated to embrace the theories. Reading this book has had a very positive impact on my eating habits in that I now incorporate soy milk and tofu into not only my diet every day, but also my husband's. I've also impacted the eating habits of relatives and friends who now practice good eating habits also because of this book. I highly recommend it to anyone who cares about not only living longer, but their quality of life.

5 out of 5 stars If You have Cancer, or want to prevent Cancer This is a must Read.......2007-08-07

If you have Cancer, Aids, Diabetes, or want to prevent yourself from getting these, even some of these so called genetic diseases.
Believe me DR Hulda Clark has done her home work, as far as the cause of cancer, how it happens, and how to prevent it, or cure it after you have it, she give you all the answers, just don't wait too long before you read her book or go to her clinic, in Tujuana.
I is much more simple, to prevent it rather than cure it, I am talking cure not arrest. Do yourself family and friends a favor, get and read this book or several others, in many languages. Curing advanced Cancer, curing Aids, cureing Diabetes.

3 out of 5 stars an interesting book with some important flaws.......2007-07-28

Her last book, Prevention of All Cancers, represents a crescendo on counter-measures to fight cancer. In her first book, The Cures for All Diseases, zapping and applying an anti-parasite program was enough to cure cancer and other diseases. In her second book, The Cure For All Advanced Cancers, she added an extensive and difficult to follow long list of diet supplements. In this last book, she decreased the list of supplements, but introduced new difficult to follow methods like plate zapping for 8 hours a day, a long list of cancer inducing foods, some of them very arguable like onions, garlic and cherries, which most studies point in the other direction, as fighting cancer. Her obsession for drinking clean and pure water, led her to advise to drink rain or distilled water after passing a repetitive filtering cycle in which you have to use a boiled charcoal filter. However, in her efforts trying to put you in a clean environment, like the one of pre-historic times, no reference is made to air pollution or the lack of oxygen from the air you breed. As a last point, I would like to refer all her theories are based on the use of a controversial device, called syncrometer, in which she literally hears the existence or absence of specific items in your body like toxins, virus or bacteria, in which she based all her theories and books.

5 out of 5 stars Cancer crunching in a nutshell--a thick one........2007-07-25

This 621-page wonder work shares the secret of kicking disease to the curb. This work builds on research done earlier and shared with the public in Clark's previous cancer and disease books, and for a complete understanding of the subject, the earlier volumes are nice to have around, also. The author--Hulda Clark--absolutely, positively, knows her stuff! Packed with effective information, research results, equipment plans, and techniques for returning to normal health. Should be required reading in medical schools, even though it is geared toward the layman. Highest recommendation.

5 out of 5 stars treasure.......2007-05-25

Cancer is looming everywhere I turn. Young and old, rich or poor, no family I can think of is immune to its dirge. Dr. Clark said she chose cancer research because it is the disease that carries the most suffering. To die of heart failure is faster and not as dignity- destroying as cancer. Some say that those who treat cancer in the USA professionally do not understand what causes the disease nor do they understand what cures it. If you believe that the caregivers are grasping at straws and that the scientific community is controlled by profitable industries, then you may be ready to shop elsewhere in the marketplace of health. Dr. Hulda Clark is a soft voice from a border town in Mexico. Her clinic is set up with bare bones furnishings. Her clothing is neither impressive nor expensive. She is what you expect of a genius scientist. Her passion drives her work and though she intends to explain things in layman terms, it takes multiple readings, serious academic efforts and dedication to comprehend layer after layer of her message to us. Year by year I improve my compliance with the multitudes of suggestions she offers through her books, seminars, and lab manual. I can tell you that knowing her is a metamorphic experience. Everything has changed because I heard the voice of compassionate truth. Not easy truth, not palliative truth, not quick-fix or convenient truth, but the call back to sanity, simplicity, responsibility, and respect for the privilege of life in a body on this planet.

Was it 20 years ago that she accidentally found the correlation between improperly bleached water, a certain parasite and cancer? The correlation was 1000 cases out of 1000. This is significant. She has over the years continued her path of pinpointing the processes whereby the body immunity breaks down and the processes by which it is restored to vitality. Commonsense advice is given based on the results of a simple audio-oscillator that people could make for themselves. The electronic circuit formulas are offered free for the taking, as are so many details immune support and proper food choices. The new edition of the Prevention of Cancer will tell more details of her ongoing research. Her work is a monumental gift to the human family. I for one treasure the information like a ticket to freedom.

5 out of 5 stars No side effects, non invasive and the REAL science.......2006-08-18

Kill the parasites; remove the pollution and your immune system will do the rest. No poison chemotherapy; no destructive radiation; instead dignity, real answers and a turn around in rapid time. The "establishment" will hate this and fight it at every turn because accepting that poison water; poison food and parasites are causing the problem will have a very destructive effect on the profiteers du jour. Read it, do it and spread the word.

5 out of 5 stars The 20 Percent Solution for A Healthy Life.......2000-03-11

One of the best books on the subject, if not thee best. I've read Pritikin, McDougal, Depak Shopak (spelling), Ornish, even Susan Powter, and all the others during a 1 year exhaustive search of the medical facts on heart health and disease. This is the only book I continue to recommend to absolutely everyone who wants the truth about animal fat and it's relationship to whatever ails you, from heart disease to depression. I personally have not had one single day of depression since I went completely off dairy products. Kurzweil has changed my life and it's been one of the answers I had been looking for for many years. Nutrition is definitely one of the cures for all maladies. All who read this book can't help but benefit for themselves and those they love or cook for.

4 out of 5 stars It will change your life for the better........1999-09-06

I picked up this book because I was ambling along 20 lbs overweight, approaching 50 and not feeling all that good about myself. What I read was completely in sync with what I always knew to be true but was presented in such a no-nonsense style that I decided to act on it. The results have been better than I hoped for. Read this book.

"First and foremost, everything I make has to taste absolutely delicious," says Claudia Fleming in her introduction to The Last Course: The Desserts of Gramercy Tavern. Words to live by, especially when you're the pastry chef at one of New York City's most popular restaurants. Fleming cleverly describes and explains her creations in intelligent introductions to every recipe. She easily justifies her unusual flavor combinations, such as Roasted Apricots with Chamomile and Lavender-Lemon Pound Cake, and carefully walks us through important steps like gently cooking the strawberries and rose wine for her Buttermilk Panna Cotta with Strawberry Rosé Gelée.

Recipes are divided by their star ingredient, and read like a farmers' market shopping list: apples, pears, and quinces; figs, melons, and grapes; herbs and flowers; cheese, milk, and cream. "Composed Desserts" make up the last chapter, and each is paired with a dessert wine. While every one of Fleming's recipes produces a delectable dessert on its own, the combinations she proposes in this chapter are truly memorable. A lighthearted composition like Waffles with Maple-Glazed Bananas and Maple Flan brings a favorite breakfast treat into the dining room for dessert. It's creamy and sweet, crispy and warm, cold and tangy--all at the same time. A number of Fleming's signature desserts are here, too: Coconut Tapioca with Coconut Sorbet, Passion Fruit-Pineapple Sorbet, Passion Fruit Caramel, and Cilantro Syrup (a Gramercy favorite). There are also plenty of recipes for the cookie jar, including the wonderfully soft and chewy Chocolate Brownie Cookies, elegant enough to serve with coffee for dessert. Treats like Milk Chocolate Malted Ice Cream, Mascarpone Cream Cannoli, and Lime-Gingersnap Parfait will have you singing Fleming's praises as loudly as her fans do at Gramercy Tavern. --Leora Y. Book Description

Using fresh, seasonal ingredients captured at the peak of their flavor, Claudia Fleming creates highly satisfying desserts without pretention. She smartly matches contrasting textures, flavors, and temperatures to achieve a perfect end result–something brittle and crunchy next to something satiny and smooth, stretching the definition of sweet and savory while retaining an elemental simplicity.

The desserts in The Last Course speak to everyone, as to the 175 easy-to-use recipes. The book is broken down seasonally by fruits, vegetables, nuts, herbs and flowers, spices, sweet essences, dairy, and chocolate. The final chapter is made up of composed deserts. Claudia gives suggestions on how to combine recipes from previous chapters to create the ultimate desserts of the restaurant.

Each chapter and each composed dessert is paired with a selection of wines recommended by Gramercy Tavern’s sommelier. Recipes include: Warm Raspberry Verbena Meringue Cake, Blueberry Graham Cracker Tarts, Apple Tarte Tatin, Buttermilk Panna Cotta with Sauternes Gelee, Warm Chocolate Ganache Cakes, and more.

Beautifully illustrated, with more than eighty-five full-color photos, The Last Course is the last word on dessert.

                5 out of 5 stars combinations inspirational.......2007-10-07

Recipes work - including the citrus tuiles. Loved the espresso/orange panna cotta. Also the pernod-orange sorbet. Helps to have some knowledge of baking/cooking. The suggestions at the end of recipes add another dimension - also a plus in this book. So far every combination has the "wow" factor - and the recipes are not very complicated. I rarely buy retail, but this is one cookbook that is worth every penny.

5 out of 5 stars my most used tool.......2007-05-13

I am a professional Italian pastry chef; this book is the one I use the most at work. I take recipes here and there and figure out if there is a way to make them Italian. This book is very valuable to me because every recipe works perfectly. In a restaurant, we don't have time to re-make something that doesn't come out correctly. I never have to worry about the recipes being off or having to adjust anything to make them come out right. The greatest thing about the book is that she wrote it in the order of the seasons, which comes in very handy for me. She explains everything in such an eloquent yet simple manner... I highly recommend this book to anyone that likes to make their own desserts. I have read a ton of dessert cookbooks and this one has impressed me the most. The buttermilk panna cotta is fantastic, along with the goat cheese mascarpone cheesecake.

5 out of 5 stars intense flavors, innovative desserts.......2006-12-04

LOVE this cookbook. Fleming is a genius at marrying flavor and form. I've made the Cherry Cheesecake Tart with a Red Wine Glaze several times, substituting strawberries for cherries and other variations, and I just love it. I made it for my Wine Club when we tried Syrahs and I used one for the glaze. A knock-out. Such an elegant dish -- one of so many that really wow. The tart's texture is just beautiful and it carries the flavor perfectly.

I'm dying to make the Tamarind-Glazed Mango Napoleons.

This is a really innovative and imaginative cookbook. Delicious, modern combinations and techniques. Highly recommended. GREAT gift, because the recipient will have to make you something delicious!

3 out of 5 stars The Last Course: The Desserts of Gramercy Tavern.......2006-03-10

The publication is well designed and the recipes are easy to read and follow, however there aren't any dessrts that couldn't be found in any number of dessert books at a much cheaper price.

5 out of 5 stars lost for words.......2005-03-24

The recipies are definitely worth the extra time and effort required for the preparation. I had made citrus tuiles and expresso-orange panna cotta for the last dinner party and the results were nothing less than INCREDIBLE!!!! If you want to impress, this book is undoubtedly the way to go. I usually try to be creative, but I have never before gotten sooo many complements. You will also thoroughly enjoy the gorgeous pictures and the presentation ideas.
