Customer Reviews:
Good things come in small packages.......2002-10-08
Prime example of good things always coming in small (but expensive!) packages. In my opinion, this is the first book you buy if you want to learn about the 8051. It's well worth the price as it will always be part of your technical book collection. The author's academic style of presenting frequent "questions and answers" works for me. The book well deserves a five-star rating.
Concise and informative.......2002-07-10
This book contains almost everything you need to know about the architecture and functionality of the 8051 microcontroller. MacKenzie does a very good job of keeping the book informative, but does not overwhelm the reader with theory or history. He concentrates significantly on the functionality and practicability of the 8051. The 8051 assembly language is included.
I was first introduced to this book in Microcontrollers class in college. After using it for the course, I went from a student who was not even aware of the existence of microcontrollers to one who was much more proficient in the design and use of microcontrollers. This book provided an insight into the existence of embedded systems just by introducing the tiny but amazingly versatile microcontroller.
If you are studying electronic or computer engineering, you must learn about the 8051. This book can help you learn so much about the functionality and practicality of the tiny workhorse.
very useful.......2001-06-13
if you are interested in microcontrollers, and want to learn about the most famous microcontroller 8051, you must read this book. you will not need any other books.
Small, but packed with information.......2001-05-09
It might be under 400 pages, but this book has a lot of information in it. It's basically one concise data book about the 8051, with questions at the end of each chapter that make it useful as a textbook. It also has several useful appendices, including a listing of the assembly commands and an appendix that shows the binary for each command, as well as the number of machine cycles it takes to execute.
I wouldn't recommend this book to someone who's not familiar with assembly and the architecture of a processor, because the book assumes you know assembly language in one form or another, and it doesn't spend a lot of time on the architecture of the 8051.
An Embedded Book for Starters and Experienced.......2001-02-22
I found that this book is well organized and presented. It is the best 8051 book I have encountered. I strongly recommend this book if one needs to understand how to program 8051 in the assembly level (and C level too IMHO).

A great guide to self awareness.......2007-09-25
What is the art of stalking?? What did Carlos Castaneda mean by that?? This book will help you realize the art of stalking and help you realize oneself
I keep coming back to this book.......2007-08-11
This book is the real thing. The more you re-read it and apply the exercises given, the more new perceptions open up to you.
Kristopher uses actual questions and answers from his students in the book. I often found myself having the same question, and the answers are often not what I would expect them to be. Many times I felt like I tapped into Higher Mind when reading.
I hope the author publishes Part II soon!
mastery of awareness.......2007-04-14
the book is awesome. however i did not recieve my CD that i paid for. and when i contacted some one by e-mail i recieved no response. i feel had i recieved the CD it would of been a easier trail.
An introduction to the Mastery of Awareness.......2007-02-18
This book provides a good introduction to the Mastery of Awareness of the Eagle Knight lineage. The author blends knowledge from his own work with Don Miguel Ruiz along with another body of instruction he received from the Counsel of Light into this volume. The content was partially derived from an online course he taught in the Mastery of Awareness and included in the text are many questions and observations from the students along with the responses he gave. The benefit in this is that it gives you greater insight into each of the tools that are discussed.
This book focuses mainly on Stalking, the Mitote book and some discussion of the Book of Life, the parasite, Judge & Victim, beliefs and a discussion of the physical, mental and emotional bodies, their role (along with some practical exercises) and feelings and emotions. Other areas are briefly touched upon that include silent knowledge, intuition and knowingness. Contrary to the other review, the only way I could see someone getting nothing out of the book would be if they did not do the exercises. If you do the exercises, you will gain the learning and benefits of enhanced awareness. The exercises may appear simple, they're not always easy though to consistently apply. What people who've read some toltec books may do, is say, 'I've read this before', I already know it and not bother actually using the information! That is of course, the trap and is discussed in this book.
I do think though that in order to get a greater context on the Mastery of Awareness, I'd read other Toltec books (and apply the teachings!), in particular I'd recommend The Complete Idiot's Guide to Toltec Wisdom (it's actually an excellent book even though I'm not keen on the title) and Susan Gregg's The Toltec Way which has enough tools in it to keep you busy for a long time should you decide to apply them. If you're just reading for information or philosophy then perhaps just stay with Castaneda's books or the Complete Idiot's Guide to Toltec wisdom which has a great overview of the different teachers.
What you need to understand with reading the books of Miguel Ruiz's apprentices is that they were taught at different times (he adjusted his teaching so it wouldn't become a belief system) and for different periods of time (some were taught for many years, others for only a few or less than one) and also other authors include other influences in their work (sometimes without pointing that out). Some apprentices were also taught by his mother, Sister Sarita, who apparently brought a more feminine approach to the Toltec teachings which was apparently quite different to Miguel's at that time.
Allow me, if I may, to offer another piece of advice that I've learned through experience. If you're interested in the path, find a teacher that you resonate with and just spend the money on learning the lessons (you're worth it!). If you're thinking that you can learn the path in a less expensive way by buying a few (or many) books, then you're taking the hard path (although I'm sure it's not totally impossible to make good movement). This is simply because you will interpret the teachings in the context of your existing world view and you'll miss out on picking up much of the things in your blindspots, that things you don't know you don't know or worse still think you know but don't actually really know. Morever, there is much, much, much more to the teachings than you'll find in all of the Toltec books that have been published if you had put them together and what you'll miss out on is the subtleties and traps that an experienced guide can provide you.
Best wishes for your journey...
Impactful Tools and Magical Energy.......2006-07-12
When reading each chapter I was left with the lessons and guidance coming to me wave after wave. The book is deceivingly simple. It is one of those books that with a little application you are able to unlock just how deep some of the teachings are.
I liked the question and answer sections at the end of each chapter. I found myself wishing I could consult with Kristopher while reading, and often found the answer waiting for me at the end of the chapter.
A wonderful book that I will keep close at hand and read many times.
Carlos

I Love Lord Buddha
Hillary Raphael
Manufacturer: Creation Books
ProductGroup: Book
Binding: Paperback
ASIN: 184068111X |
Book Description
I Love Lord Buddha is the transgressive, transcendent first novel that some are calling the future of literature, and others are calling a post--pornographic revolution. Set in late-90's Tokyo, it recounts the history of the Neo-Geisha Organization, a sex-and-death cult with an anticonsumerist, pro-hedonist, sub-Buddhist ideology.
The novel takes its inspiration from the classical Japanese literature of the first millennium, the AUM Shinrikyo subway-gas cult, and the esoteric texts of Buddhism. Reading like manga, sounding like hard techno, feeling like fetish, I Love Lord Buddha paves the way for a new literature of undiluted aesthetics and ecstasy.

Buddhism, hostess bars, and avoiding the Apocalypse.......2006-09-24
The setting for I Love Lord Buddha is the hostess bars of Tokyo in 1997. The main characters are western hostesses who spend their nights socializing and drinking with men in these bars. Amongst them is a charismatic leader from New York who takes the name HIYOKO and starts recruiting these displaced women into a new-Buddhist group called the Neo-Geisha Organization. Reinterpreting Buddhist philosophy through her cultish mind, HIYOKO plans for a cataclysmic event that will shake humanity into exercising Buddhist values so as to avoid a larger global catastrophy. It is a lively story with lots of sex, drugs, and Buddhist theory, which portrays the lack of spiritual values in modern commercial Tokyo.
The plot unfolds as HIYOKO's cousin Heidi Peterson, a sociology grad student from the States, arrives and starts doing her research on the Neo-Geishas and their enigmatic leader. It takes the form of Heidi's notes, interviews, police reports, and pages from various documents following each other in brief chapters, many only one page long.
Fast pacing and an interesting structure give the novel a unique look and feel. Very little is capitalized. which makes reading a bit hard since the break between sentences is only the tiny period. Without a leading capital letter new sentences can be hard to find at times. However this typographic style contrasts well with the fact that HIYOKO is always in all caps.
Well written and plotted the novel does a good job of creating the world of the characters and the moral dilemma of our times.
Neo-Geisha Gene-Dub.......2006-01-26
"Hillary Raphael aspirates the drug fetus's brain cell of Japanese acid and Neo-Geisha gene-dub." - Kenji Siratori, author Blood Electric
i feel justified acting the way i was built.......2004-11-19
This holiday season Raphael sweeps you into the "in" crowd and you feel as if you are HIYOKO's right hand woman waiting for the moment the men are transfixed by your collaborative beauty to redesign the world under her vision. This novel with remind you why you dress the way you do. Why you walk the way you do. And why you make love the way you do.
A Spiritual Adventure.......2004-10-15
As a practicing Buddhist, I connected on a personal level to the tenets so playfully explored in this work of (quasi-)fiction. The story weaves its way through many of the central contradictions facing Buddhists in a consumer society. At the same time, it is essentially a "comedy" in the sense that absurdity pervades every page of this episodic novel. Characters are more like caricatures-- however, the reader is never condescended to, but always compicit with "the joke". I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to engage in the contemporary urban spiritual dialogue.
i'm not sure about the 5 stars, i'll decide later.......2004-10-13
a first novel that once i started reading seemed to have to have come from the san francisco sixties. but it wasn't, it's new. i'm not quite sure, after just one reading rather i like it or not. the strange capitalization takes a little while to get used to. the story doesn't exactly flow, there are a series of vinyettes that go in all directions but come together here and there to make a story.
the story is loosely about HIYOKO a westerner in tokyo who builds a cult religion with followers coming from young women who work in tokyo's hostess bars. with images coming from the AUM cult of subway gas fame, HIYOKO's cult flows through the neon lit world of sex and drugs.
i suggest that you read the sample chapter first. it's available at neogeisha.org.

Book Description
This opulent, multi-faceted celebration of the man called "the prince of painters" is a treat for fans of Renaissance painting and students of art history alike.
Alongside Michelangelo, Raphael Santi is considered the second great genius of Italian Renaissance art. While his paintings epitomize the High Renaissance qualities of harmony and ideal beauty, their warmth and serenity shine through.
Throughout the volume Raphael's own observations shed light on his creative process and his deep devotion to his art. Filled with biographical material, including excerpts from the artist's letters, study of the art and life of Raphael uses brilliant color, dynamic layouts and in-depth research to yield a vivid picture of his life and work. Time lines, detailed historical background, and splendid reproductions of his depictions of the Madonna and Child and his commissions from the court of Pope Julius II lead toward a greater understanding of the forces behind his genius. Anyone fascinated with the life and times of this magnificent artist will find much to explore and savor within the pages of I, Raphael.

"Hey Mikey! He likes it!".......2007-07-21
As I read this book, a few things happened.
The first thing was a real enjoyment of the author's voice - his intentionally casual, quick, acrobatic, conversational, yet intimate use of words. It is a gutsy and also gut-wrenching collection of experiences.
The second thing was somewhere on page 73, in the middle of Chapter 17. I read with a creeping sense of dread and a resounding gong in my head that was saying "Pay attention. You know this already." What happened was that I closed the book and put it down. I needed to absorb what I already knew but had not heard anyone say before. I had to take a break that lasted about a day before I could plunge back in. That's what happens when I read a good book.
The third thing was a flashback to a corporate meeting I attended after the company I used to work for had announced the closing of our office and impending lay offs. The new CEO told us how well the company was doing, how sales were up, how this was an exciting time to be part of the transition as the office was closing and moving out of state. He challenged us to work harder than we ever had to make sure the transition of job responsibilities to the new staff (that would replace us) would be smooth and wonderful. He talked about checking our moral compass. I sat in the back of the room and wondered why nobody said anything. Not that I said anything either, but still. I wondered how I would be paying my rent in a few months. I wondered about his own moral compass, that he could stand up there and issue forth such a speech, and I wondered who had written it for him and how he could sleep at night.
The fourth thing I remembered was a party I had been to a few years ago. The ceiling of the kitchen was filled with balloons. As the party progressed, someone got out a black marker and drew happy faces on some of the balloons. I followed suit and started drawing alien faces on them. You know, the big almond shaped black eyes and straight slit of a mouth. People laughed nervously. And then this guy got mad at me and told me I was ruining the party. And then the host of the party got a knife out and popped them. People clapped. Nobody wanted to talk about this later. I wondered why a cartoon face of a mythical and imaginary creature made people fearful and angry and could ruin parties. I mean, they aren't real, right? Right?
The other thing I remembered was when this guy I dated for a few months in 1994 said these words to me: "If I wanted a girlfriend, she would be someone just like you. I think I am falling in love with you. I don't think I can see you ever again." And then he called me a few hours later wanting to know if he had done the right thing.
To quote Jeremy Vaeni: "Wait... what?"
This book will shake a lot of events from your past loose from those dark corners where you have had to bury them so that you can be a grown up and make a life for yourself. It will make you look at them in a new way.
Tap into the Saturday mornings of your childhood in front of the TV. Remember your Saturday morning cereal and singing along to the commercials that were as good as the shows you were watching? Tap into your inner Mikey and try it. Not because you'll eat anything. But because you will like it.
Books with words..........2006-12-24
Most books have words. This one has a whole mess of 'em. Words can be put together to form sentences. Sentences can be put together to form paragraphs, Paragraphs can be put together to form books. This book has all of the above plus more! If you read all of the words (in order) they make mind-pictures that make sense! Woah! This is a magic book, a book given to us from...i don't know. Some guy I guess.
When is a book not a "book"?.......2004-03-02
When it's THIS book. This material is less of a "book" in the traditional sense, and more of a pleasant afternoon at a diner, catching up with that dude who always has the cool and funny stories. The author interrupts himself to go on tangents, to give you poetry, to give you SNL-style bits... all while telling anecdotes that make you laugh, cringe, ponder... and laugh again. The stories come from a unique perspective- a perspective that you grow to both love and get pissed at as the pages get turned. His views and comments on the world around him generate instant recognition: even if you could never conceive yourself of being in those situations. I couldn't begin to describe the physcial characteristics of a "Crouching Beavis, Hidden Butthead", but I can totally pick him (or her) out when I see him... or her. He creates the archetypes that we haven't yet come across, but look forward to being able to reference now that we know them.
Oh, and it's just plain funny. Did I mention that yet?
Oh, just buy it and you'll see what I mean........2004-02-29
"I Know Why the Aliens Don't Land" is a book I didn't really "get" as a whole until a few hours after finishing it. The connection among the autobiographical narrative, the interviews and the interspersed news bulletins eluded me most of the way through but then I decided it doesn't matter. I enjoyed it; laughed and cringed. The starkly honest, insightful and acerbic telling of the author's personal stories strike a difficult-to-achieve balance between humor and sorrow, the inconceivable and the uncomfortably familiar; said another way, a sharp kick right in the old breadbasket. I let the final pages wash over me as I struggled to understand them and, in my own way, I did perfectly.

Book Description
The seed of this book was planted in 1941, when Giorgio Spadaro first visited the Vatican Museums with his cousin, the painter Beppe Assenza. A second visit and further conversations in 1945 watered the seed, which germinated and grew over more than half a century. Now it has flowered, in the light of Rudolf Steiner's Anthroposophy, into this profound and accessible meditation on the spiritual significance of three of Raphael's greatest paintings: The School of Athens (shown left), The Disputation (below), and The Transfiguration.
By working attentively, patiently, and carefully through its composition and the geometry it embodies, Spadaro's meditation reveals a prophetic Raphael whose paintings have much to teach us about the evolution of consciousness, the role of Christ and Christianity in human evolution, and the path of individual inner development. Spadaro shows how Raphael's paintings depict, with precision and in detail, the spiritual, cosmic, and physical situation of humanity, through which it must grow to fulfillment.
The DisputationReading his descriptions and following them in the paintings brings to life a spiritual reality all too often ignored or denied by art historians. At the same time, through his deep understanding of the paintings' spiritual content, he is able to identify, in a meaningful way, the figures depicted and their significance.
Here is a valuable addition to the growing body of literature on the profound spiritual meaning contained in Rafael's paintings.

Customer Reviews:
Not really deep.......2006-08-21
This book is just a commercial for the HDW F900 camera and an "ode" to Panavision (the employer of the author). Nothing to learn from it it's just a brief intruduction on video shooting.
As another reader of this book mentioned : there is nothing from a technical point of view. Nothing about compression ratios, sub-sampling, and subtilities of HD formats. And nothing about post-production.
It's all about sony and Panavision and the ability of the hdcam format to equal the specifications of 35mm film (laughs). Nothing about other vendors and formats; not even a word about DVCproHD. That's really sad for a book titled "high definition and 24p".
With many errors in this book, we feel that the author doesn't seem to have any real professionnal experience as a DP on a HD or a film project.
This book should have been titled "a brief introduction to HD and panavision hardware".
A little too biased.......2004-08-01
This book almost exclusively discusses the Sony F900 (now superceeded). The author is employed by Panavision and, at the time of writing, has no experience with other cameras.
Particularly when post-production fx are required, one of the most important aspects of any electronic aquisition format is the compression ratio it employs. So I found it somewhat disturbing that this issue was entirely ignored except when critisizing the Viper for having to have a hard-disk recorder because it can't compress the image (and yet the F900 is 4:2:2 with high compression).
However, the author did mention Star Wars II as an example of the quality of the Panavised camera, yet this production employed a hard-disk recorder because of the problems caused by HDCAM compression.
I think the book shouldn't have such a general title when the contents are dominated by something so specific and reads like a sales brochure.
Very accessible and useful!.......2004-03-05
The world of HD and progressive/interlaced technology can be very complex and confusing, and I've read several technical books that keep it that way. Paul Wheeler does a superb job of being concise, clear, and extremely practical. This is the first time I've read a comparison of HD and film that was unambiguous and unemotional. I get the similarities and differences now more clearly than ever. He also goes thru the various (confusing) frame rate choices and actually lists the practical situations where you might choose one over another. Astounding! And, lastly, I greatly appreciate his confidence when he says, basically: take care to set up your camera carefully (and here are the steps), take care to set up your monitor carefully (and here are the steps), and then don't fret about creating a perfect waveform--trust what you see and be creative. There is also a great deal of user-friendly description of camera types, lenses, setups, etc. which I won't directly use in my work as an editor, but they were engaging and informative, so I didn't skip over them and learned a thing or two in the process. He has some partisan preferences in terms of brands and models, but states that all up front and clearly.
Most excellent!
