Perspectives From Beyond .......2005-05-05
Anybody who has sifted through the cornucopia of books that attempt to shed light on UFOs and the ETs who pilot them knows one thing for certain. There is loads of confusion and nothing close to a consensus viewpoint on why the ETs are here and what they want. This is a breakthrough book, recieved by Marshall Summers as a series of briefings from a group of benign ETs who have observed Earth from a secure location within our solar system. The Allies have endured attempted subjugation by the same "Collectives" of resource explorers who are now abducting, studying and interbreeding with hundreds of thousands of men and women around the globe. Simply put, the human race is being discovered by a race of ETs who are very self interested and very skilled in the art of persuasion in the "mental environment." For humanity there is no hiding and no turning back. The ET presence is growing day by day, week by week. and it must be met with sobriety and no illusions. The time has come to establish human sovereigny. This book will reveal to you why this is so.
Wake Up!!!.......2005-04-22
Wake up!!!
The book Allies of Humanity tells us that while we continue to ponder whether we are alone in the universe, speculators from several cultures in the Greater Community are on earth considering how to exploit our planet and it resources--including humanity--for their own purposes. Our ignorance is their greatest advantage over us.
An empowering Teaching has been provided to us, facilitated by the work of author Marshall Vian Summers. The Teaching unfolded in his books reveals Knowledge to the reader. In the books Allies of Humanity Volumes 1 and 2, Wisdom From the Greater Community Volumes 1 and 2, Greater Community Spirituality, and Steps to Knowledge, we are given information that we need to grow into the stature that is required of us as individuals, and as a race.
This Teaching is ancient; its truths are universal. When the need arises, as it has in our time, Teachers of Wisdom in the Greater Community adapt the methodology of teaching to the world where it is needed.
Knowledge as it is known, and Wisdom as it is practiced by the mature races in the Greater Community, are our first best defenses against the persuasion, and the pacification program, of the opportunistic speculators who want our world.
You are called to receive this gift that will mature our race. You who want to make a real and lasting contribution to Life, here it is. Here is the flame; light your torch and prepare yourself; there is Work for us to do.
Why are they really here?.......2005-03-20
Most people acknowledge the existence of UFOs, and therefore of an extraterrestrial presence in our airspace. Many believe that humans have been abducted, examined and forced to take part in unexplained medical experiments. Many also speak of "space brothers" and of ET visitors who are here to save us and our planet from war, poverty and ecological disaster. Why are they really here?
If one accepts the premise that there is other intelligent life in the universe, one must ask why these entities would expend tremendous effort, energy and equipment to reach our earth. If we look at our own history as an example, and we ask why humans have expended effort, energy and equipment to visit new worlds, what do we learn? Did Columbus come to the Americas to share his peaceloving spirituality, or his knowledge of technology? Did Cortez bring peace and prosperity to the Aztecs? On a more modern note, does Wal-Mart bring economic security to communities and small businesses?
What has always been the fuel behind expansion and exploration? Unfortunately, it is usually the strong seeking to exploit the weak - for their land, their water, their oil, their workforce. Why would ET be any different? Do we think greed, empire-building and power-seeking are strictly human traits?
But there must be good ETs up there, too, you say. Yes, just as there are good humans. Are the good humans the ones who exploited Africa for gold and diamonds, America for land, wildlife and other vast resources, Iraq for oil? The wise and the spiritually advanced do not violate other people's sovereign rights by visiting their lands with no invitation, by kidnapping their citizens or by stealing their resources. But they say they are here to help, you argue. Of course they do. Do you think they will tell you they are here to help themselves?
This book is a wake up call for every human on earth. Columbus is coming back, and this time we're the Indians. Read the book. Learn what we can do to help people realize our earth is a gift, and that we must protect her from those who would take her from us.

Not bad!.......2000-04-04
I have been reading books by Bruce Coville since I was in second grade, and I think that he is a great author for children. Now, this book certainly wasn't his best, but it was up there. I would recommend this to any child who has an interest in science fiction.

I am a hypnotist. I tell you READ THIS NOW!!!.......2004-03-07
The other review of this book says it all, but why can't I say what I want? ^__^
This manga series is a masterpiece. It's deep and cool at the same time. Now, when I say deep, I don't mean like Serial Experiment Lain or something, you really don't have to pay atteantion to know what's happening and/or get the feel of things. It's super-mondo-cool!
The second installment of the series picks up around where the anime OAV (the DVD) lets off. I won't tell you what happens or where exactly it picks up, read it for yourself! :P
(emoticons are stupid, but funny.)
Read it. Read it now. I don't see you buying and reading it! NOW!
Frustrated by the Alien Nine anime's ending? Pick this up........2004-02-08
What many people neglect to notice is that the anime was merely an interpretation of the manga; not an animated version of it. Because of this, many think the story ended where the anime did, but is not the case. The anime ends right in the middle of book two, which happens to be one heck of a cliffhanger, leaving many new viewers confused (and even angry). This review was written to clear that up for those who recently watched it.
The first two graphic novels can be grouped in this manner:
-The introduction and the growing friendship
-The trials of each girl
The third is most likely about protecting Yuri, but assumptions is a no-no in a review. During book two, Tomizawa starts giving depth to each of the girls, their emotions and fears being the highlights of the novel.
The art style is Tomizawa's usual-- big ears, no noses, that sort of thing. However, the amount of detail that went into some of the more critical scenes is amazing, and definitely gives the surroundings more liveliness.
As for story, it goes almost without saying that it's full of metaphors, symbols, and plot twists. And like usual, leaves you with more questions than answers. If you're someone who's a sucker for instant gratification, you should probably pick up all three at once.
Book two isn't perfect, however. Since Tomizawa intended to have Alien Nine be without a target audience, he ended up alienating both the younger and older crowds. It feels too kiddy for adults, since the characters are all pre-teens schoolgirls who are drawn cutely. It's also too graphic for children, as partial (but drawn vaguely) mutilation and nudity are in a few pages.
If you can look beyond the cute exterior (or embrace it), you'll find a wonderfully deep science fiction manga that continues the surprisingly twisted story of Alien Nine. It's a must if you want to understand the anime's ending.

not as good as BOOK ONE, but still exellent! 4/5 stars!.......2007-03-11
this is a very good read. the story is as cpompelling as ever, and the art is great.
in the book, Newt, Hicks, and Butler the android are still drifting through space, when they discover that they have stowaways...Aliens! after dispaching the dead whight, they discover a military facility where an insane general, General Spears, is trying to breed, and control, Aliens in order to get Earth back from the Aliens infestation from BOOK ONE.
the story is good as ever. although it lacks the depth of BOOK ONE, it is still very involved and very comelling. this book also continues the love story with Newt and Butler, and the complications from Butler being an android. very nice
the art is exelent. it air brushed, and totally 3-D. it looks digitally enhanced. the colors are well handled, and are great to look at.
over all, this book has a good story, good art, and is a worthy addition to the ALIENS series. however, you must read BOOK ONE first. this book will make little sense without it.
Alien3? What's that?.......2000-06-27
The sequel to Book One, this may be as good. Although it lacks the first installment's insightful monologues due to is shortness, it again thoughtfully presents insanity and power in a way more effective than any movie could do it. The artwork is fully painted and is breathtaking. The spaceships are excellently designed with the characters faces detailed and sensitive. The tormented love story at the centre of the piece is unspeakably moving. Should the writer ever wish it, his work could be up there with John Wyndham and the artist could be on a par with the brothers Hildebrandt. Buy this masterpiece!
An awesome continuation of the Aliens saga.......1997-12-31
The art in this book is some of the comic book industry's best. It is obvious, as you read, that pieces of this book were used in the Aliens Resurection movie sequel. The military tries, and fails, to control and use the alien species as a biological weapon. This book was written before "Aliens 3", so look for a grown-up Newt. Ripley makes a brief appearance as well.

ONE BEASTLY BEAST: TWO ALIENS, THREE INVENTORS, FOUR FANTASTIC TALES is a collection of four short stories by fantasy author Garth Nix.
In "Blackbread the Pirate," DVDs are stolen from Peter by a gang of pirate rats. Yes, pirate rats! One Captain Erasmus Rattus arrives to take Peter to a magical land in hopes of retrieving the DVDs--they are rentals.
In "The Princess and the Beastly Beast," Princess Chlorinda is bored and somewhat ignored. There is no adventure--until she's forced to dive down the throat of a monstrous beast!
In "Bill the Inventor," a baby boy was found in a banana skin with no clue to his parents' whereabouts, and he was sent to an orphanage. Several years later, he is faced with unusual prospects for adoptive parents. Being the smart boy he is, he uses his inventions to avoid adoption, until...
In "Serena and the Sea Serpent," a freak accident embedded Serena with the contents of fifty-seven encyclopedias. As the town know-it-all, she volunteers to solve a small problem: a huge sea serpent is running amok up and down the coast. She may be small, but she is determined!
These stories are clever and fun, sure to be a hit among children who enjoy a bit of fun and fantasy in the everyday world. Illustrator Brian Biggs brings Nix's tales to life with same hilarious fantasy spirit in which they were written.
For parents who worry that sensitive children may be frightened by the aliens, monsters, and such, I feel this is a good selection for reading together. These stories are presented in a fun, not scary, manner. The beauty of reading it with your child is that you can not only gauge their reaction, you can also talk about it and other things that either worry them or make them feel brave.

Fantasy writer Garth Nix has created a short story collection for the younger set. Exploring the underworld of rat pirates; adoptions of Earthlings by odd, tentacled aliens; a princess literally searching the belly of the beast; and a brainiac solving the dilemmas of a kindhearted sea serpent, Nix introduces young readers to the possibilities of the imagination between the covers of a book.
ONE BEASTLY BEAST is an excellent choice for the reluctant reader. The full manuscript is around 120 pages, which can make a RR groan. However, each story is only about a quarter of the book, so readers can actually finish a single storyline very quickly. Additionally, illustrator Brian Biggs provides a number of illustrations to kick-start the imaginations of readers who might need a little extra motivation to continue to the end.
Possibly the strongest point regarding the construction of this book, however, is that even though it is a collection of four short stories, Nix still divides each story into chapters, thus giving young readers a taste of chapter books, as well as further dividing the reading challenge into smaller bites for the most reluctant of readers.
For those who are looking for something that will motivate a boy to read, this book will do just that, with pirates, rats, inventors, and aliens. Nix doesn't forget about his young female audience, however; they will love the adventure-seeking princess, penguinmaids, and the super-smart Serena, who saves the day with her bravery and willingness to dig deeper and understand the heart of a vegetarian sea serpent.
Overall, this is a book for every young reader; Nix has scored a fantasy winner with ONE BEASTLY BEAST (TWO ALIENS, THREE INVENTORS, FOUR FANTASTIC TALES).

'Alien Amoung Us' is a great sequel to 'Alien in the Mirror' there are no disappearing characters or story lines that pop out of nowhere. It's suspensful and very funny in most parts, especially when it involves Rholette.
All in all, it's a great book that will leave you wishing the next book would just appear in your hands. It's a great book for anyone, no matter how old or young you are.

Book Description
For 15 years, Dr. Miletello, an oncologist, wanted to write a cookbook as one of the most frequently asked questions was, "What should I eat?" Holly Clegg, author of the successful Trim & Terrific cookbook series has answered this question with her common sense approach to cooking and her easy, everyday recipes that has become her trademark for healthy cooking in today's hectic world.
Diet and nutrition are at the top of the list for anyone with a newly diagnosed malignancy. Patients have problems with a loss of appetite and altered taste either before or during treatment. Dr. Gerald Miletello, a practicing medical oncologist, collaborated with cookbook author, Holly Clegg to create Eating Well Through Cancer, a collection of 200 easy recipes to help cancer patients tolerate treatment. As nutritional evaluation and recommendations are daily concerns, practicing oncologist, patients, and families can benefit from this publication. In Eating Well Through Cancer, the personal experience of its authors combine to produce a cookbook that serves as a guide for nutrition before, during and after cancer treatment. Besides the recipes themselves, the book features diabetic exchanges, menu planning, high calorie variations, Doctor's Notes and a section that cross-references recipes and side effects.
Chapters are organized according to the phase of treatment and possible side effects. Additional sections are devoted to long term post treatment healthy eating as well as snacks and suggestions of foods for friends to bring those undergoing treatment. Some chapter titles are more characteristic of a medical encyclopedia, however the recipes resemble anything but hospital cafeteria fare. Although there are a few medicinal recipes from a natural laxative or a basic weight gain shake, Eating Well Through Cancer excels in presenting tasty favorite dishes with a healthy twist. Any patient undergoing chemotherapy will find this book to be an essential asset. The recipes are simple, tasty and easy to prepare. The last Chapter contains healthy nutritious recipes that are aimed at maintaining a smart healthy lifestyle.

Great food ideas.......2007-09-10
I oftentimes recommend this book to my patients that are at a loss for what they need/should be eating during treatment. It takes a lot of the guess work out of what to cook. A great gift for friends and family members who don't know what else to do when a loved one is diagnosed, buy this book and prepare a healthy meal.
Extensive cancer treatments can be devastating to the entire system, so eating healthy foods can help to combat even the worst of chemical side effects.
Well-written, easy to read, and chock full of info.
Great book for both patient and caregiver.......2007-07-04
I received this book as a gift a number of years ago when my husband was fighting cancer. Like all cancer patients he had little appetite and lots of side effects from his chemo. The recipes are great to help with the various problems encountered by cancer patients at any time during the treatment. I also found the section for caregivers to be really helpful for myself. Not only is nutrition important for the patient but the caregiver also and this book provided great food and good tips also. Now, I give this book as a gift to those I know how are dealing with cancer themselves or a loved ont.
This book concerns me.......2007-05-12
This book has numerous tasty recipes that everyone in the family can enjoy. The book is also nicely organized with a chart that summarizes which recipes are particularly good for specific side efects of cancer & cancer treatment.
On the negative side, and this was a big negative for me personally, if you are trying to follow an anti-cancer diet that avoids sugar, processed flours, and other ingredients that many believe are at least questionable if not outright harmful for a cancer patient, then this is not the book for you. Many of these recipes include the use of table sugar & other processed sweeteners, processed grains, and higher amounts of animal protein than are usually recommended for cancer patients (or for anyone, for that matter). The author even recommends adding extra sugar to some recipes to make them taste better.
I understand firsthand that some, perhaps many, cancer patients' palates change during treatment. When combined with nausea or other side effects, it can be difficult to find any foods that are appealing. At times, simply getting the patient to eat *anything* in order to get some calories must take precedence over ensuring that those meals are truly healthy. If this is the situation you are facing, then this book might provide you with some tasty options. But I believe it is irresponsible for the author to provide recipes and food suggestions that at best are not truly healthy and at worst could feed a patient's cancer.
Instead I recommend "Nature's Cancer-Fighting Foods" as a source of sound nutritional advice (for anyone, not just cancer patients) and simple, health-promoting, and appealing recipes.
Great Book!.......2007-04-06
This is a great book. I bought it for my mom, and she has found it to be very informative beyond just recipes. I'd recommend it to anyone facing the unknown of cancer.
