I couldn't put it down - excellent story........2007-05-25
This author gives us two remarkable characters that are as different as
day and night. Jude, the dark and brooding rogue DEA agent and Elizabeth,
the reporter assigned the task of writing a story about Jude's turbulent life. Along the way, both women discover things about each other and themselves. This is, at its heart, a love story. Ms. Bowers gives the
reader a little bit of everything here; drama, romance and intrigue.
I couldn't help but feel compassion for Jude when she describes in
flashblacks her unsettling childhood and the loss of her DEA partner.
Even so, her dark side is a bit disturbing. She talks of killing an
adversary as though it's second nature. Elizabeth is unfazed; she is
relentless in her pursuit to find the real Jude under all those layers.
The loves scenes between the two characters are well-written; it is
obvious these two women truly care for one another. Their love is
tested by a betrayal and Jude must decide whether she can allow someone
into her heart again. The ending is filled with twists and turns; I
wasn't sure what would happen to these two. You must read for yourself
to see what the future holds for Jude and Elizabeth. This was a great
read. I highly recommend it. Even though the two main characters are lesbians, it can be enjoyed by anyone. The story is about self-discovery, acceptance, and ultimately forgiveness. I hope Ms. Bowers
gives us a sequel.
On my top 3 list.......2005-04-03
This book was an inspiring book. It was dark, romantic, compelling, and treacherous. Actually, both the book and the characters were. The plot is brilliant though more of the book is focused on the sizzling and soulful romance than the plot itself. Nevertheless, the plot gets enough light shed on it for you to wonder what's going to happen not only to the relationship but to the beautiful protaganists. You'll love this book and the characters in it from beginning to end.
Absolutely Amazing.......2005-01-10
There aren't words to explain how good this book is. Bowers delivers a basic Uber Xena and Gabrielle story in a surprisingly eloquent and original way. Of course, there is the dark, raven-haired and blue-eyed character with a dangerous past (Jude). Of course, there is the light, blonde-haired and green-eyed character who sees the good in everyone (Liz). Of course, they meet and immediately fall for one another. But this book is so much more. This is certainly one of the best books I've read in this genre. Where has Bowers been since 1999?
Excellent plot, good writing, and mostly realistic.......2005-01-07
I loved this book! It drew me in from the first page. I love both of the main characters (Jude and Elizabeth), who seem well-matched. Both are given some depth and not made to seem like caricatures, which sometimes happens in Xena uber-fiction.
The only thing that didn't seem real was the reason Jude was so haunted. I don't want to spoil the book so suffice to say i don't think in real life someone would ever do what Jude Lucien chose to do at this turning point in her life.
Sex scenes were excellent, venues were varied. About the only way i would've improved it would be to worry less about the stylish clothing and cars (and this is a HUGE issue for me in MOST lesbian romances) and a little more about issues of substance. You can write an enjoyable book that doesn't preach, but still actually "says" something without Vera Wang dresses and SUVs.
Too bad Ms. Bower never wrote any other books in print and her website is now defunct. I think she showed promise.
Look No Further!!.......2004-06-30
This was the best book I have ever read!!
It has Everything a novel needs; love, suspense, gun fights and strong, intelligent women. The characters stick with you.
You get to feel like you really know them. I wish there was a follow up to Jude and Elizabeth's story- it was one of the most moving I have ever read.
I didn't want to put it down...and when I finally did, I couldn't wait to get back to it.
Take a chance on this one!!
Book Description
It’s only natural that rock and roll — “the devil’s music” — and Satanism should be intimately linked. Lucifer Rising explores this unique cultural confluence. Divided into three parts, the book first traces the history of Satanism, from the birth of the Black Mass through the fashionable sinners of the Hellfire Club. The second section examines Satanism in the 20th century, including Aleister Crowley, the formation of the Church of Satan, the Manson Family, and the rise of occult-influenced bands like Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. The book’s third part looks at the new waves of Thrash Metal, Death Metal, and the Scandinavian Black Metal scene; the murder case surrounding the band Burzum; the neo-Nazi element; and the religious right’s courtroom pursuit of heavy metal. Lavishly illustrated throughout with graphics, medieval woodcarvings, and stunning photographs, the book also contains entertainingly cynical comment from Anton LaVey, in one of his last in-depth interviews.
Book Description
With photographs and artwork from self- described Satanists, this elaborately researched look at the nature of evil sheds light on -- and makes light of -- popular culture's darkest secret. Lucifer Rising includes a history of occult- influenced rock music as well as candid interviews with modern- day Satanists and controversial rock stars who confirm that the dark side is indeed the religion of the rebel.

More "I Hate Christians" than anything else.......2007-03-19
I've been reading Baddeley's reviews for /Terrorizer/ for years now and was excited to read his book. First put off by the fact that he claims he's an occult "specialist" simply because he is a member of the CoS put me off.
I've actually read the book twice in case I missed anything "important" the first time around which I didn't. This book took 8 years to write but I'm not sure I understand why it took so long to write. He's compiled a lot of information on people behind the scene he's writing about which is a nice touch but it doesn't do much for what the book purports itself to be. I liked the inclusion of many interviews and asides from Anton LaVey but having so many asides in the book seemed like a great way to fill pages instead of writing cogent material.
About three chapters in, I got the feeling that Gavin wrote the book to say nothing more than "I hate Christians, they're all stupid sheep" since that's the heavy overtone for the entire book. This is implied overtly and quite plainly in text and extremely implied by the writer's continual defaming tone over the course of the book.
I think Baddeley was more interested in putting names into the book people would recognize than writing source material that's insightful and gives meaning to the modern Satanist movement. Compared to /Lords of Chaos/, this book seems more like a "who's who" that attriute themselves in various ways to Satanism and Baddeley even goes so far as to include derogatory remarks about the previously mentioned book in his, seems like a low blow for a well respected journalist to take.
Having read this book, I ceased to read anything Baddeley has written since because I realize that he half researches many things, loves heresay, and thinks far more of himself than is true.
If you want to know how modern Satanism, read something such as /Hell's Dominion/ and other books written by people in theological circles.
For something to burn away your reading hours with.......2006-04-12
A book that documents the so-called Satanic Culture of the previous century from the middle ages to the present trendy days of the "modern" era, LUCIFER RISING is a title that is hauled from a movie written and directed by famed warlock and Alister Crowley follower Kenneth Anger, who've the reputation as the one commisioned for hollywood's official consultant regarding the occult, and is said to be the very real founder of the group known as the Church of Satan, and that its said founder Anton LaVae is nothing more but a hired hand for Anger to use as his front act spokesperson for the said group.
Written by a journalist who is subscribed to the said organization's ideals, and mainly to its founder Anton LaVae, its author Gavin Baddeley is obviously inclined sympathetically sided under that context, which leaves a half baked picture obviously in the process regarding the subject. But in spite of that, Baddeley have been fair enough to show the results and breakaways that took place upon the group which is propped by LaVae, mainly after the said founder's demise, allegedly on the eve of Halloween 1997- when according to medical records, LaVae passed away not until the second of November, absolutely way past Halloween as reflected from the accounts found in this book regarding greedy rivalries with LaVae's widowed Nth wife and child, along with Lavae's two other daughters, regarding the rights for the said organization he had founded, with accounts ranging from its (nearly whitewashed) history and people/celebrities who have been said to've been involved with the group, from Sammy Davis to Marilyn Manson.
The book also dwelt for quite some deal in its pages about the satanic culture's connection and involvement with Rock music - in particular to the Death/Black Metal genre - in which case, it seems to be that Didrik Soderlind's book LORD'S OF CHAOS: The Bloody Rise Of Satanic Heavy Metal comes as a better equivalent regarding the subject matter (who's author is also featured in this book as well by the way), while this one apparently goes very much confined only with Baddeley's perspective and personal knowledge on its whole.
Howevcr, this work by Baddeley comes as very comprehendsive enough within certain aspects in its account, such as the ones for the satanic sects that came out from the last quarter of the previous century (ie. The Temple of Seth/UK, The Worldwide Satanic Church Liberation (Paul Valentine), Order of Satanic Templars (Raymond Bogart), Kerk Van Satan's Walburga Abbey, The Electric Hell fire Club, The Temple ov Psychic Youth (Genesis P. Orridge), Order of the Left Hand Path, The Luciferian Lightgroup, The Process Church (Robert de Grimstone), the graphic artist Coop, and the group founded by LaVae's daughter Zeena with her husband Nicolas Shreck along with Boyd Rice - The Werewolf Order), and the tragic Charles Manson killings that occured in the late 60's amongst few others.
Filled with some number of black and white pictures all throughout its 18 chapters, LUCIFER RISING may not be that too completely comprehensive regarding the subject matter of cult groups and the culture it purveys within the field of the entertainment industry on music, movie, and literature along with the social influences that it could generate -- but however, it is a fine reader to pass away the time somehow.
AVE REGGIE SATANAS? Nah,
only for peeps who're disillusioned themselves maybe, due to some childhood heartache that took place in their childhood years that they got carried on with to their adult life - like due to some divorce of parents, perhaps...
i oughtta hail Yoda, rather.
My opinion.......2004-12-02
I enjoyed the book a lot but I preferred it being a little more non biased, information does come best from the source and it was very informative...however the fact that it was all coming from a self proclaimed Satanist was a bit appalling simply because I want to read facts not propaganda it's still a great read. I don't choose sides because truth doesn't have a side...Lords of Chaos is a very good book to accompany this one as well as raising hell and a field guide to demons...anything by Richard Cavendish is also a good read.
Fathers of Black Metal.......2004-05-17
Written by Church of Satan Priest Gavin Baddeley, a book of this kind is easily in the ranks with 'Satan Wants You' by Arthur Lyons, as the credits & influences The Church of Satan has had on society & modern culture is fully recognized, thereby giving the Devil His due.
There are compelling interviews with Dr. LaVey {whose words are spread throughout the book as relative to the subject of the chapter at hand}, Magistra Blanche Barton, High Priest Peter Gilmore, a two-parter with Mgr. Boyd Rice; Thomas Thorn of EHC; iconoclastic film-maker & long-time friend of Doctor's Kenneth Anger; Vincent Crowley of Acheron; Abaddon of Venom; Quarthon of Bathory; Coop; Mgr. Rex Diabolos Church {whose artistry adorns the front cover}; Timothy Patrick Butler; Michael Moynihan of Blood Axis; Count Grishnacht & Euronymous of the 'Black Metal Circle' {a couple of pretentious & antagonistic delusionals who declared 'war' on The Infernal Empire. As a consequence of their absurd proclamations, which can be compared to the flea crawling up an elephant's leg with the intention of rape, one killed the other, both of whom declared eachother 'allies' reveal themselves herein to be nothing more than reverse-xians, still praddling about under the xian mythology, many times veering towards Tolkien's fantasy world - they very easily could be considered "Tolkienists", rather than Satanists {by their own admission, they would rather call themselves 'devil-worshippers' & 'slaves of Satan', dedicated to bringing about the most misery they can upon the world - just like xoids, whom they claim to respect, as they are, verily, brothers in arms, or 'black sheep'. In the same herd/flock; then there's Glenn Danzig, Glen Benton of Deicide, King Diamond {who is accredited with the use of 'corpse-paint' for use by contemporary Death-Metallers}, Sister Namaah of The Kirk Von Satan {a veritable 'Satanic Nun'}, amongst others.
The book is divided into three parts:
1. The History of Satanism, which covers the basic inceptions, superstitiions, & practices of the aristocracies in indulgence, & the revolution of The Black Mass.
2. Satanism in The 20th Century, which includes historical recollections & occultic ties of The Third Reich, Gerald Gardner {the comical origin of 'wicca', which is about as 'ancient' as the turn of the century}, & serial killers Richard Ramirez & David Burkowitz, among others.
3. The Satanic Millenium, explains the Infernal rise of the internet, diabolical board games, Columbine, Marilyn Manson, the afore-mentioned 'Black Metal Circle', & the future influences of Satanism upon the world.
Lucifer Rising takes on where Satan Wants You leaves off, & is a must for Satanists to possess - indeed, it is absolutely a part of Church of Satan history. This book is unprecedented, as it is a record written by a Satanist, someone who knows what we're all about, & thus takes an objective view on the subject, instead of the usual biased & bigoted misrepresentations of xoid Satanophobes. A real work of art.
Hail Gavin Baddeley! Hail Satan!
Lucifer's Rise in pop-culture........2004-04-06
Gavin Baddeley's _Lucifer Rising: Sin, Devil Worship and Rock n' Roll_ is a journalistic outtake on Satanic themes in modern pop-culture. This British author is hardly objective, a Satanist himself (his name has "bad" in it!) and as such, the book offers a glimpse into the inner workings of the minds of those who feel inspired by Satan. Or more accurately, by the notion of rebellion against the "restrictive" God of Bible and Church. The tone of _Lucifer Rising_ is the same as that of the narrator-announcer on VH1's _Behind the Music_ series: pretentious and self-authoritative. It is filled with interviews, illustrations of demons, sacrilegious artwork (a painting of St. Anthony the Great tempted with a vision of a beautiful naked woman on a cross, for example), and of course, with more then a few photographs of voluptuous naked women featured in occult ceremonies. Much of the imagery either blends the characteristics of male and female or promotes a radical sexual polarity, including S&M scenes, abstinence a definite taboo in Satanism. Baddeley begins by tracing the origins of Satanism from Old Testament times, where it grew as an offshoot of heretical sects including Gnostics, various backwoods pagan customs and as a direct inversion of Christian belief, moral authority and ritual. In the 1700s odd beliefs and Luciferian thinking may have even been an impetus for the Founding Fathers when they gathered together in their lodge meetings to draw up the laws of the United States. Alestier Crowley was certainly the most influential occultist in the early 20th century, spreading bizarre ideas in his numerous books on the occult and the coming new age. German contemporaries of Crowely, postulated strange theories that would later be integrated into the politics of the Nazi Party. Guido von List and Lanz von Liebenfels published writings that Hitler read avidly, in the journal _Ostara_ on the divine nature of the Germanic race. The 1960s aesthetic, atheistic, dilettante and speculative Satanism of Anton LaVey is especially examined in depth. LaVey's version of Satanism is a combine of blasphemous rituals mocking the sacred realm of Christianity, with a doctrine of hedonism and an atheistic metaphysical worldview. His "Church of Satan" does not literally believe in a devil, but rather in atheism, which is logical because a literal worship of an evil, demonic entity would therefore presuppose the existence of a good, creator God who allowed the devil to rebel in the first place. LaVey, misanthropic, elitist and misogynist in his views, also cursed the hippie movement for its optimism, espousal of brotherly love and utopian idealism. In the 1960s, Satan became the favorite icon of Rock n' Roll bands, many musicians employing satanic imagery, inverted crosses and gothic, morbid negative themes in their lyrics and concerts. Baddeley examines in considerable detail the satanic elements in popular music, from the Beatles, Rolling Stones to punk rock and heavy metal all the way up to the 1990s. Some Scandinavian heavy-metal heads, as chronicled by the self-proclaimed Pagan Michael Moynihan, have been involved in the heavy metal scene have been involved in violence, church burnings, and of course in promoting a virulent form of anti-Christianity. Baddeley interviews Moynihan about the "Faustian spirit of Fascism," derived from Spengler's theory of the cyclic rise and fall of cultures (accompanied by a photograph of the androgynous Marilyn Manson in a Nazi pose). A common theme among fringe Satanic cults is that they embrace the idea that the West is in a state of total decline and that the world is soon to embark in a downward spiral of chaos and bloodshed and the revival of paganism. These self-proclaimed Satanists are quick to explain that they are not affiliated with "Wicca" or white magic because of because of Wicca's philanthropist and egalitarian outlook. Satan has even become a popular character in comic books, movies and even video games in addition to youth-culture music. Several notorious serial killings, such as those of Charles Manson and Son of Sam had dark, occulted inspirations. Satan is an appealing character because he represents a youthful rebellion against an established order that certain occultists with an agenda want to attack--stable society and especially the Christian religion. _Lucifer Rising_ is an interesting look at some of the wicked elements in the undertow of Western society in the past fifty years. Satanists like Baddeley claim en masse that without the devil there would have been no Christianity. However, such a stance begs the question: where would Satan and his angels be if there is no God for them to rebel against?

Authors Rising.......2002-06-03
When seeing the two names listed as authors and then looking at the size of LUCIFER RISING (it was the longest New Adventure when it was first released), I had to wonder if perhaps some editing would have been in order. Now after reading it, I would say that my hunch was vaguely correct, but that those problems don't have a hugely adverse effect. The book could have done with either a little more editing or perhaps another draft, but these complaints are minor enough to not stand in the way.
Despite its length, LUCIFER RISING still doesn't quite manage to flesh everything out to its potential. Rather it uses its size to add more plot threads and intriguing characters than the average New Adventure would contain. The leisurely pace allows the characters and setting to develop gradually, and the result is quite effective. We get a very good feel for these people and their situation, so we really empathize with them when everything starts going wrong in later chapters. The scale feels much larger here than it does in the general Doctor Who story. True, this is a story does span a planetary system, but even the scale of the plot has a larger feeling. The authors aim big and they achieve much of what they attempt.
Some of the prose is quite fantastic. Not only are the authors (well, one of them at least) adept at the art of creating three-dimensional characters, but much of the imagery contained here is awe-inspiring. The hard science-fiction concepts of the beginning sections are fleshed out in a sublime fashion that manages to be both detailed and epic. Instead of the familiar Doctor Who characters and themes being dominated by the sheer size of the story, the regulars fit comfortably inside this weighty science-fiction story.
I quite enjoyed LUCIFER RISING. I liked the slow start; the science-fiction concepts are handled quite well and the authors don't let them fall into clichés. While the book goes more in the direction of having lots of fairly developed characters rather than fewer but more distinct people, this does work to its advantage. Parts of the book seem slightly fragmented, but this was definitely a story that I appreciated.
Two promising writers debut.......2001-06-10
The TARDIS arrives in the Lucifer system, where a scientific expedition is about to face the greed of the Intergalactic Mining Corporation. Some secrets from the past of recently returned companion Ace will lead to as many complications as the lost history of the previous inhabitants of Lucifer...
This book sees the debut of two authors who will return to write further books in this series solo. And an interesting debut it is, too...
Drawing extensively on ideas from both the original TV series and the novels, it contains an original story which sets in place a number of features which will form a backbone for the Virgin Doctor Who range. It expands on the idea of the Guild of Adjudicators, members of which will be allies and enemies of the TARDIS crew in both the New and Missing Adventures ranges, and draws together elements that have been used in the past into a more coherent view of the universe.
As well as doing that, the Doctor, Ace and Benny find themselves and a complex and convoluted plot which will add to the tension already existing between them. This particular thread runs for many books, which is a good thing in terms of the depiction of the characters, but can be a little unpleasant for the reader.
If this book has a major flaw, it is that it suffers from being a first novel. It is longer than it might be, and contains some extraneous elements that the authors might have removed without any harm to the book.
However, it is a book that certainly does reveal the potential of the two authors which bore better fruit in their future works.

Book Description
Most of us simply arent willing to sacrifice culinary excellence for meals that are good for us. Its no wonder, then, that Cooking Light is Americas leading epicurean magazine and the most trusted authority on healthy cooking. And this newest hardcover beauty is the most comprehensive collection of 1,000 top-rated, double-tested, healthy, yet rich and tasty recipes ever combined in one cookbook.
Customer Reviews:
Buy the book, skip the magazine.......2007-05-09
This is a wonderful reference for your kitchen. It is filled, and I mean filled, with recipes and ways to cut out some fat here, reduce calories there while maintaining great taste. I was so happy with the book, I subscribed to the monthly magazine. BIG MISTAKE! Instead of being filled with many recipes, it is filled with ads and "lifestyle" features that have nothing to do with cooking, much less light cooking. Buy the book.
The Ultimate Cooking Light Cookbook.......2007-01-10
This is my favorite cookbook by far. The Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe produces cookies that look and taste just like the full-fat variety.
Not As Good As It Looks - But OK.......2007-01-06
I have had this cookbook for a while. I pulled it from the shelf to do this review and noticed as I skimmed through that many recipes I have tried and made notations on looked similar to this "Eh...", "I would rather eat cardboard", "Sorta bitter and uninspiring". Very few "Yums".
That said, the fine points of the book are: The pictures are lovely and mouthwatering. The calorie/fat/protein/carbs (etc) are listed for each recipe (just like the mag). There are some fun and interesting tips sprinkles throughout the book like "ways to shape rolls" and "Troubleshooting creme caramel". If you are a novice cook there are plenty of cooking, chopping, folding type-instructions. They also do "Classic Makeovers" of recipes that are usually calorie and fat bombs to a more trimmed down version showing each version's recipe side by side. That can be a good way to see plainly where a cook can trim fat, replace fat with less caloric subs, etc.
Now for the less than great news: Some of the recipes are just plain old normal recipes. Meaning not light. Almost every bread recipe can be found in a regular cookbook. No change. Why bother including it in a light cooking book? Some of the recipes do not seem particularly light. I found myself saying over and over: "109 calories for this rank cookie? 314 calories for 1/16th of a very mediocre cheesecake?" One more thing is that meat browning is done (like with the 500 calorie lamb shanks) with NO FAT, completely relying on non stick. No spray, no 1/2 ts oil... NO! That is no way to cut fat. Why bother eating that fatty cut? It makes me laugh. Finally, a few recipes were unclear. For instance, there is a barbecued pork chop recipe that mysteriously loses half the sauce. Unacceptable.
So, if you are a novice cook, need inspiration and haven't a clue how to cut the calories and fat from your meals this may be the place to start. Maybe... If you are none of those things, save your money or spend it on a cookbook that is filled with recipes that look good AND taste great. The internet is chock full of hints on how to sub fruit for fat (like applesauce for oil) and any nit whit can bungle a dish by browning without fat in the pan.
Great Recipes.......2007-01-03
Cooking Light is my best resource for acceptable healthy recipes. I would have preferred more of the classic recipes, but maybe I need to get the earlier edition.
What I liked best about the cookbook is the many cooking tips. There are a couple of gourmet recipes that I am anxious to attempt, specifically Baklava. There is a wide variety of types of dishes.
I have tried several other cookbooks, but I always come back to the tried and true, Cooking Light, Heart Association and Weight Watchers.
Absolutely delicious!.......2006-11-25
This is an excellent cookbook with surprisingly delicious recipes. I have been using it daily for the past two weeks. My husband and I have enjoyed all of our meals. I can't believe that these recipes are actually healthy and so easy to make. There are quite a few 'all-time favorite' recipes included that are very tasty. I strongly recommendly this cookbook. There's a lot of variety...something for everyone.

Best cookbook ever.......2007-07-02
The Complete Cooking Light Cookbook has become my absolute favorite cookbook, serving as an excellent reference guide and source of new, healthy recipes. I've fixed numerous recipes from the book that were a great hit with my family and friends. If you only buy one cookbook, this is the cookbook to have.
Cooking Light Recipes.......2007-03-28
Great cookbook. Blueberry coffee cake on cover of book is outstanding and easy to make.
a little less fat, but alot less rewarding.......2007-02-05
The low-fat craze that was the rage in the 1980s and 1990s is continuing to wane, due in part to the increasing obesity and the realization that "low fat" doesn't necessarily mean "more healthy." This complete cooking light cookbook has recipies that, by and large, result in less flavorful and less "competent" cooking, with (in my opinion, at least) minimal "health" advantages vis-a-vis any reasonable cooking practices. Take the chicken pot pie recipie in this book, for example. Following this recipe results in a bland, very watery mess -- toped with hardened chunks of crust made with flower and butter. Neither the filling, nor the crust, will leave you satisfied. (Don't they test the recipes?) Anyway, I gave it two stars for some low fat desserts that were not terrible. A quick look through the Amazon.com collection of cookbooks will result in many better alternatives.
The Complete Cooking Light Cookbook.......2006-08-06
I purchased this book because my daughter-in-law has one, and I was impressed with hers. I did order this book, and after looking it over, I decided to order the New Complete Cooking Light Cookbook. I am waiting for it to be delivered. I know I will enjoy it.

My favorite cookbook..........2007-07-20
I was introduced to this cookbook several years ago at a Seder. In the years since, I have collected a shelf full of cookbooks with a few favorite recipes in each book. "Spice and Spirit," however, never fails to provide an easy, excellent meal. For awhile the book seemed to be out of print. I decided to check Amazon one more time to find one for my summer home. I was delighted to find it available again. You do not need to keep Kosher to love this cookbook!
Good, but could have photos.......2007-01-04
This book is very useful and it contains a wealth of information on not just the recipies but also the Mitzvot that apply to the recipies, like separating Challah. However, I give it a point off because it doesn't have any photographs. I know, it's silly, but I like to have photographs of the food so that I can try and see if what I make looks anything like the photos. All in all, a good book though.
My personal favorite.......2006-04-29
I love cookbooks, to read and look through. This one is the best. It has all the basic recipes and loads of information abouth jewish life and general cooking. When I am looking for a good basic recipe I know it will be here. I have given this as a shower gift many times. There are many cookbooks out there with more updated recipes and pictures (this book has no pictures) but when I need something to come out right, not be too difficult, and taste good I go for this book. The brownie and Basic (fruit)filled cakes I have made hundreds of times and they keep asking for them.
Don't miss this one!.......2006-04-13
This book is awesome! Although indispensable for those who keep kosher, it is wonderful for anyone with tastebuds. (I'm a Christian.) The recipes are much-loved, tried-and-true favorites, which are very clearly written to virtually ensure success (e.g., even telling what size saucepan to use -- which you'll appreciate if you ever had to switch to a larger pan halfway through the recipe, thereby leaving two to scrub). Everything in it is wonderful; these are the recipes folks swear by, so you can try them with complete confidence. Awesome book! It sounds expensive only until you see it.
You Don't Get Much Better Than This!.......2006-04-03
Hand it to the good ladies at Chabad for whipping up a great cookbook full of useful recipes and valuable Jewish lessons. Ever wondered how much flour you need to use in order to say the blessing over "taking challah"? Well, now it's all at your fingertips.
One of the nice aspects of this book is that many of the recipes are for large crowds - so get ready to set the Shabbat table, and nourish your fellow Jews with some hearty fare from what has become one of the alltime classic Jewish cookbooks.
