Book Description
The term polyamory describes non-monogamous relationships based on honesty and affection. Presenting a fascinating peek inside the polyamorous lifestyle from a Pagan perspective, Raven Kaldera offers practical insight and spiritual depth into a vastly misunderstood way of life.
Relating polyamory to astrology and the elements (air, fire, water, earth, and spirit), the author addresses all aspects of the polyamorous life, including family life, sexual ethics, emotional issues, proper etiquette, relationship boundaries, and the pros of cons of this lifestyle. Kaldera also discusses polyamory as a path of spiritual transformation and shares spells, rituals, and ceremonies for affirming one's relationships and spirituality.

I've not read the entirety of this book but I know Raven..........2006-11-24
I've known Raven for many years now and being both pagan and poly and coming to him on many poly and pagan issues I can say that he not only knows what he is talking about but is a fine role model. I recommend this book or any book by Raven solely on the merits that it was written by him. Long live the King!
pagan food for thought...poly or not.......2005-12-16
Intelligent, thought-provoking look at managing multiple relationships, plus the reader gets a palpable sense of the author through his use of language and writing style, which adds further to the pleasure of reading this book.
Insightful analysis of the negatives that dog any open relationship, as well as their root causes: territoriality, envy, jealousy, and possessiveness - read this section over more than once. Also worth re-reading: the Mars chapter on fighting honorably. Concise, thorough explanation of how to set up composite astrology charts for multiples - this was something I have always wondered about, and this was the first time I have seen it discussed. Also, some really beautiful, carefully thought-out rituals - I particularly like the one for finding a tribe, which could be used by any soloist in search of the right coven.
Now, for the problem I have with one of the premises of this book - the idea that the primary relationship takes precedence over the secondaries. This is not a criticism of the author, but rather of a basic premise behind polyamory. Why would anyone want to be a secondary, which is little more than a concubine position always subordinate to the primary marriage? Kaldera mentions some of the reasons why people are content to be secondaries, but doesn't explore viewpoints of secondaries re: their status in sufficient depth. "How can secondaries successfully negotiate the polyamory power dynamic without getting used?" is the question I feel this book doesn't answer. The "contract" he includes is blatantly self-serving in terms of his relationship with his wife, at the expense of the secondary. The author does mention that this contract is old, and notes how he has evolved beyond it in certain ways, but a few chapters devoted specifically to secondary viewpoints, and an updated contract juxtaposed with the original would definitely have rounded out this book.
Pagan Polyamory.......2005-11-25
I'm in a newly formed MFF triad and I'm trying to read everything I can about polyamory. I pre ordered this book, I was so excited to see that it was going to be published. I received it last week and read it in two days. WOW. As Raven points out there aren't many role models for the type of relationship that we are choosing to engage in. I think polyamory is a paradigm for our future as a society. And the more we support each other, the better off we'll all be.
Raven writes in a very accessible style. At times very thought provoking, at others he brings a smile or even a laugh at his turn of phrase.
I loved the section he called the Demonologia Polyamoria, classifying the problems of polyamory, such as jealousy, possessiveness and envy as demons. He talks about the effects these negative emotions can have on a polyamorous relationship (any relationship in fact) but these emotions seemed to be magnified when there are more people involved. He also gives practical and down to earth advice, referring often to the comments and suggestions made by the people he interviewed for the book, on how to deal compassionately with these demons.
Besides the information on polyamory, the rituals that he includes are amazing. As a pagan, I found the inclusion of a spiritual aspect of relationship support to be extremely helpful. At the end of every chapter there's a ritual included to help with the difficulties or celebrate the triumphs that were addressed in that chapter. For example at the end of the Sun chapter he provides an excellent self binding spell for the Shiney New Love Syndrome, which can plague many polyamorous relationships.
I also enjoyed reading the comments, thoughts and words of advice provided to him by the people he interviewed. It was great reading about the problems and joys that they's encountered over the years, how they dealt with them and celebrated them. It makes our small triad feel a little less alone.
Over all I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I'm looking forward to re reading some parts of it, refering to it constantly over the next few months and getting my partners to read it as well.
I would recommend this book to anyone who's considering to become involved in a polyamorous relationship, to those who are already in one and to those who are simply interested in this new relationship paradigm.

Raven Armistead is a devoted Auric League, framed for murder. Reluctant allies, they become fugitives in a world where they must make their own laws. Great futuristic-Earth action romance!.......2004-08-17
The polar ice caps have melted after an asteroid hit the planet. Unknown at the time, the asteroid contained particles of some unknown substance that reformed the human anatomy, creating a human hybrid. Dubbed the "Aurics" by the "normals" who feared their special abilities, only the Auric Rights League fights the Inter-Continental Police (ICP) who would destroy all of the Aurics.
It is now the Earth year 2028 and Raven Armistead is devoted to her fathers' cause of bringing equal rights to the Aurics. But when the ICP is about to bring online a tracking program that would be able to locate anyone with Auric abilities, she volunteers to destroy the computer lab.
Val Tarrant is a devoted ICP agent. He is determined to eradicate all the Aurics from Earth. However, when a new security guard saves his life when the ICP computer lab explodes, his life is turned upside down.
When circumstances throw Raven and Val together, they must put aside their grudges that they each harbor the other in order to prevent a more dangerous situation than either of them could possibly imagine!
Ms Dunne has written a very fast paced apocalyptic novel that kept me wondering what was truly going on until the end of the story. The people of Earth live in fear and seem truly brainwashed to fear what they don't understand. This so reminded me of the mass genocide of World War II, and the people that experienced mutations in X-Men.
While Val and Raven are not fighting for the same side, they allow human compassion to show that they are still both mortal with the ability to aide each other while injured and save each other's lives. I was actually very amazed that even though there was the "instant" attraction between them, that our couple actually used this as a reason to not trust one another. It made for a very interesting and rocky relationship!
I think that RAVEN'S HEART has a very well developed plot. The cause that ends up uniting them was a very realistic concern and therefore more believable to me. I also really appreciated the fact that both sides, the Normals and the Aurics, didn't instantly get along and that they worked through their fears rather than the sudden "Oh, well they get along so I guess we should too." But, what made the book for me, ...I can't say because it will give away the book!
Awesome story! I highly recommend RAVEN'S HEART!
Outstanding blend of science fiction and romance.......2001-01-05
Raven's Heart is a fast paced thriller that combines well thought out science fiction with action and political intrigue. But the heart of the story is the relationship between the agent Val Tarrant, and the fugitive Raven Armistead. Even as he pursues Raven, Val finds himself attracted to the beautiful revolutionary. As events unfold they become reluctant allies, struggling to balance their mutual attraction against a system which forces them to be enemies. And in the end, Raven and Val must learn to trust each other, if they are to survive and defeat the forces that threaten to destroy them both.
I first read the e-book edition of this story, and am delighted to see it finally available in paperback. This is an outstanding debut novel from a fresh new voice in science fiction. I loved this book and you will too.
Raven's Heart.......2000-04-22
This is an easy book to read about a time when the ICP enforces the law. This includes rules of morality. A couple trying to make love while obeying the law is truly funny. The basic story is predictable, but is well told and holds your interest. It is hard to put down once you start reading. There is a lot of action and the talents of the minority group is believable and well defined. All's well when the two groups learn to work together for a happy ending.I enjoyed it.

Book Description
For more than twenty years, Barefoot Contessa, the acclaimed specialty food store, has been cooking and baking extraordinary dishes for enthusiastic customers in the Hamptons. For many of those years, people have tried to get the exuberant owner, Ina Garten, to share the secrets of her store. Finally, the energy and style that make Barefoot Contessa such a special place are shown here, with dozens of recipes and more than 160 breathtaking photographs, in
The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook.
Ina's most popular recipes use familiar ingredients, but they taste even better than you would expect. Her Pan-Fried Onion Dip is the real thing, with slowly car-amelized onions and fresh sour cream. Tomato soup is created from oven-roasted tomatoes and fresh basil to intensify the flavors. Meat loaf is as good as your grandmother's, but it's healthier because it's made with ground turkey and fresh herbs. The light and flaky Maple-Oatmeal Scones are baked with rolled oats, whole wheat, and real maple syrup. Now these and other famous Barefoot Contessa recipes can be prepared at home.
Ina says that before she owned a specialty food store she often spent a week making dinner for six friends. Her experience at Barefoot Contessa has given her hundreds of ideas for creating wonderful parties in a few hours. And they're all in this book. Crab Cakes with Rémoulade Sauce can be stored overnight in the refrigerator and sautéed just before the guests arrive. Cheddar Corn Chowder can be made days ahead, reheated, and served with a salad and bread for a delicious autumn lunch. The ingredients for Grilled Salmon Salad can all be prepared ahead and tossed together before serving. The batter for the Raspberry Corn Muffins can be mixed a day before and popped into the oven just before breakfast.
Ina Garten teaches us how to entertain with style, simplicity, and a relaxed sense of fun. There are notes throughout the book for giving cocktail parties, lunches, and dinner parties where everything is done before the guests arrive. And there are easy instructions for creating gorgeous party platters that don't even require you to cook!
With Ina Garten and The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook, you have the perfect recipe for hosting parties that are easy and fun for everyone--including the cook.

Lauren Bacall gets cranky when Barefoot Contessa, an East Hampton specialty food store/institution for more than 20 years, is sold out of Indonesian Ginger Chicken. She can now thank her lucky stars that exuberant owner Ina Garten has written The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook and included this recipe. Ms. Bacall is sure to be pleased to discover how easy it is to achieve such fantastic flavor. Simplicity is something of a bottom line at Barefoot Contessa. "Food is not about impressing people," Ina Garten says. "It's about making them feel comfortable."
Aimed at the cook who intends to entertain, The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook draws on Garten's experience as a caterer, as well as her knowledge of what customers really want to eat when they arrive at her shop. She has culled her favorite recipes and has included timesaving tips, always striving for ease and simplicity. Neither cooking nor entertaining should be a chore, according to Ina Garten, and her lovely cookbook is a case in point.
This is an intensely illustrated cookbook that shows the foods to best advantage (and makes it a lovely gift book). Presentation counts for a great deal, and Garten's food styling adds to any food platter. But just as relevant are photos that bring in the spirit of fresh, locally grown produce. There's the local poultry producer proudly holding a laying hen in case anyone should wonder where the eggs come from.
Starting with appetizers, Ina Garten isn't afraid to include such basics as hummus and guacamole: she knows from experience that her versions make a profound impact. There are French Onion Soup and Corn Cheddar Chowder, Baked Virginia Ham and Salmon with Fennel, Roasted Carrots and Caramelized Butternut Squash--and then one killer dessert after another. Included, too, are some breakfast specialties. Any upscale bed and breakfast could have this book in the kitchen and get rid of all others.
This isn't a cookbook about getting outrageous with food. The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook is about warming the hearts and souls of your guests with familiar food raised to a gourmet level. --Schuyler Ingle

Before Food Network introduced us to the lovely and maternal Ina, she had a wonderful gourmet food shop in East Hampton which has since closed (sadly!). This book really is a tribute to the clean flavors that built her empire. Simple, stunning, Ina guides you through cooking with aplomb. It's my therapy. I'm glad Ina is in the world!
I loved it...!!!.......2007-06-06
I own several GOOD cook books, but this is different in the way it's written... Ina makes every recipe look soo easy to make, that I really believe I can cook like her and have tried the "Apple Tartin" and many others... Happily with the good same results...!!!
