Product Description
"Enmity Between the Seeds" book by Bill Cloud is now available from our On-Line Book Store.
1 Corinthians 15:46
"Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual."
Though Paul was speaking of the Messiah in this passage, the principle of natural laws teaching spiritual issues is prevalent throughout the Scripture. One such natural law found in the Torah is the law of Kil'ayim, or mingling species. Specifically God instructed the children of Israel not to "sow your field with mingled seed" (Lev 19:19). For centuries, rabbis have suggested that the reason for this command is unknown. Yet, in "Enmity Between the Seeds: The End Revealed in the Beginning," Bill Cloud shows the spiritual principle of this natural law.
In the beginning, God placed enmity between the woman's seed and the seed of the serpent, thereby ensuring that there would be no mingling between the two. Yet, as Bill will show, the serpent has been trying to do exactly that, and moreover, has attempted throughout history to reverse the decision made against him in Genesis 3 by crushing the head of the woman's seed.
In this book you will learn:
Why God conceals truths within Scripture to be revealed in their time.
What Cain and Abel teach about the end days
What identifies the seed of the serpent
How the War on Terror may be revealed in the beginning
and much more!

Outstanding understanding of the Middle East struggle.......2006-11-14
Bill Cloud has made an impressive study of the scriptual Hebrew. As a result he gives the Biblically oriented reader a deeper understanding of the current Middle East struggle. Cloud starts with the anger Cain had against Abel and his subsequent murder of his brother for giving the asked for sacrifice of a lamb. I can now see how this relates to murderous terrorist activity in the land of Israel and other places. Strongly recommended for those open to a scriptual understanding of these problematic human behaviors.

Inspiring.......2004-08-07
With elegant illustrations, Cathy Yow shows us just how abundant Mother Earth really is. Your creative spirit will soar and the possibilities are endless. Beans, bones, shells and sticks become beautiful, one of a kind pieces. The projects require a bit more work than traditional beadwork, but the most complicated tool required is a drill or dremel. Many of the projects could be completed by children with adult supervision and would be quite educational. I found a project that I could easily complete with shells that I already have an abundance of the first time I looked through it. If you make jewelry to sell, you will be inspired to create true one of a kind pieces. If you don't have an interest in making jewelry, this is a wonderful coffee table book and would be a valuable addition to any public or school library. Highly recommended.
Unique and Full of Ideas.......2004-07-16
I feel guilty for not donating this book to my public library! Cathy Yow has filled this work with beautiful illustrations and fantastic ideas for unique, one of a kind pieces that reflect the abundance of nature. She even includes instructions for making jewelry from ten bean soup mix! Instructions are simple and easy to understand, even for the beginner. Standard jewelry making tools are used for most projects. A drill or dremel is required for many. An absolute treasure to own and a highly valuable book for those who sell their jewelry and want to offer something out of the ordinary.
Jewelry from Nature.......2000-04-22
Cathy gives us "45 great projects using sticks and stones, seeds and bones." The next time you go to eat fried chicken, save the bones! Cathy has a great use for them, as indeed she has for many other natural materials. Here is a partial list:
Corn, Rudraksha seed, Snuffbox bean, Candlenuts, Sea Heart, Green seashells, Bedouin clove, Rose petals, Olive wood, Bamboo, Beetle wing, Tagua nut, Snake vertebrae, Mescal bean, Chinaberry, Beach glass
Just look around your yard (grass, leaves, twigs) or check your spice rack (cloves, nutmeg seeds, bay leaves). Anything is fair game for jewelry making for Cathy.
Book Description
How Lawrence of Arabia and a Jewish agronomist from Palestine mapped the land and conflicts of the modern Middle East
In the turmoil of the First World War, while the Great Powers secretly plotted the future of the Middle East, a second lieutenant from Oxfordshire and a Jewish agronomist from Palestine audaciously imagined new nationsArab and Jewishrising from the ashes of the Ottoman Empire. T. E. Lawrence, who would later become the iconic Lawrence of Arabia, used his assignment of coordinating Arab support for British war strategies to advance the dreams of an Arab state. Aaron Aaronsohn gave up a distinguished career in science and, with his sister Sarah, established a secret spy network in wartime Palestine, providing the intelligence that enabled the British victory over the Turks.
Their arguments in wartime Cairo and at the Peace Conference in Paris presaged the political battles of the Middle East today. In this gripping narrative history, Ronald Florence resurrects the exploits and sacrifices of an unsung Zionist hero, deconstructs the legend of Lawrence of Arabia, and provides new perspectives on the origins of the Arab-Israeli conflict.
Customer Reviews:
A very interesting and original book.......2007-08-12
As in a number of new books such as Jerusalem 1913: The Origins of the Arab-Israeli Conflict this book seeks to examine the 'seeds' of the Arab-Israeli conflict. But the approach here is quite original, in a dual biography of a leading Zionist and Arabist the roots of the conflict are drawn by those actors who worked to create the facts on the ground after the First World War. T.E. Lawrence was one of the most celebrated figures of the war who helped lead an irregular force of Arabs under the Sharif of Mecca, the Hussein family, to victory in Damascus. But Lawrence was more than a British officer, he was a lover of the Arabs and adopted their cause as his own. He drew maps granting them new countries and wanted to decide the future of the Middle East based on his Bedouin friends. But time was against him as Ibn Saud conquered Arabia and Faisal and Abdullah were ejected, eventually pushed from Damascus they found themselves in Iraq and Jordan. Only in Jordan would the legacy of Lawrence find root in a Bedouin state and a new Lawrence, Sir John Bagot Glubb, would help lead Jordan to a partial victory over Israel in 1948.
Juxtaposed with Lawrence is Aaron Aaronsohn, a Palestinian born Jew, he was a leading agronomist who desired to build a new Jewish state in Palestine. He worked to develop land purchased for Jewish pioneers. Aaronsohn saw in the British key allies of the Jews and as victors they would be the ones to help guide the Jews to statehood and safety.
The book is a series of vignettes of these two men as they lobby England to support their two causes and although originally the causes are mutually beneficial(King Faisal supported the Zionists in Palestine), eventually they become antagonistic by the 1920s.
The biggest drawback of this book is that these men are in-comparable. Aaronsohn is a Jew from a backward province, T.E Lawrence an Englishmen from the greatest power of the day. Instead the book could have compared Lawrence with Richard Mienertzhagen or Orde Wingate, both of whome were pro-Zionists and were like a T.E Lawrence for the Jews of Palestine.
Nevertheless this is a well written and interesting book.

Book Description
Nicole Nieman has never really thought about being Jewish. Now, with the Nazis occupying France, it is the only thing on her mind. An almost endless stream of refugees comes to stay at their house, and her parents wonder if they too ought to escape over the border to switzerland or take the chance and wait it out. Then one awful day Nicole comes home from school to find her parents and her sister gone. The Nazis who have taken them are still looking for her. Where can Nicole hide? And will she ever see her family again?
"A significant addition to the growing collection of children's books dealing with World War II."

Customer Reviews:
A haunting story..........2007-05-19
Thirteen-year-old Nicole Nieman never really thought about being Jewish -- until her native France is invaded by German soldiers upon the outbreak of World War II. Suddenly, her friends and neighbors are struggling against hunger, wondering whether it's better to wait out the war -- which they're certain will end within months -- or risk fleeing to Switzerland.
One day, after spending the night at her best friend's house, Nicole discovers that soldiers have ransacked her family's home and taken away her parents and nine-year-old sister. She barely has time to register the horror when she is forced to run, as the soldiers are hunting for her, too. Desperate, Nicole approaches countless Christian friends, only to be turned away each time, as each family fears for its own safety.
Finally, Nicole finds refuge with her teacher. Living in a dormitory with classmates from the country, Nicole waits and hopes, her mind struggling to remember the way things were.
Although this intriguing story is powerfully written, it might be a bit frightening for younger children. Like many Holocaust-era stories, there is no sugar-coating or promise of a happy ending.
A Pocket Full of Stars for A Pocket Full of Seeds..........2002-11-26
As I read the book A Pocket Full of Seeds, by Marilyn Sacks, the vivid verbs and its unusual style soon drew me in. Taking place in Aix-les-Bains, France, in the early 1940's, it brought the sense of World War II and the invading German soldiers to life. Nicole, the main character, and her family, Papa, Maman, and little Jacquline, are Jews, so they get to "enjoy" the full wrath of the Germans.
One day, Nicole comes home from school to find a wrecked home and a neighbor urging her to leave, for her parents had been captured by the Germans! She searches for a place to stay, for the soldiers were planning to return to her apartment. Do you think she'll find one? Whatever the outcome, you will enjoy this book. The style in which the author writes is intriguing. She starts the first chaper in February 1944, but the second dates to may 1938. She increases the dates slowly as the first chaper begins to make sense, and the last chaper is dated December 1943. This book is so descriptive! I loved A Pocket Full of Seeds, and I guarantee other readers will too.

I must have read this book 5 times between 4th and 6th grade. I am now 30 years old, and the name of the book AND the author pops into my head as if it were just yesterday. I highly recommend this book for children who are just beginning to have that special curiosity about the world and its history. Thoroughly entrancing.
Hannah H........2000-05-12
This is a wonderful book. It grabs you and makes sure you understand. It's about a girl named Nicole Nieman and her family who live in Aix-Les-Bains, France. They are not enslaved until 1944 when their town is invaded. A weakness is it can be confusing in parts of the book. Sometimes it goes back in time so Nicole, the girl, can tell when she lived with another family besides her parents. If you like the type of books that hold on to you and make you live for your life, this is a book for you.

Customer Reviews:
Great book for beginners.......2007-09-25
My boyfriend and I are serious cooks but have never attempted much Indian. We found this book browsing in a small local book store and it's such a great find. First attempts at cooking last night resulted in some great dishes. Of course, we added a little more tumeric here and there, more pepper, and more garam masala, but it was a great place to start and has veggie dishes we like too. A great buy for the beginner!
Absolutely Fabulous!.......2007-07-09
If you love Indian food, you'll love this book. Fifty curries doesn't sound like very many for curry offcianados but this book is a great tour of what the Indian subcontinent has to offer. From regions all over India, each mouthwatering recipe is accompanied by full coloured pictures. Definitely a must buy to add to your curry collection.
Outstanding Cookbook.......2007-01-10
This is a wonderful cookbook. In addition to the detailed, but not overly complicated recipes, it has a good amount of basic information about ingredients. This is important, because many of the ingredients are new to non-Indian cooks.
I've been very happy with the recipes. Good photos of each dish, and a nice write up on each recipe, explaining the region where the it came from, and the cook or restaurant that created that it.
A wonderful range of curry recipes presented by an expert.......2007-01-05
This book not only provides some wonderful curry recipes from different parts of India but also helps clear a lot of misconceptions about curry and what it actually is!! A must have.
Camellia Panjabi knows her stuff.......2006-07-07
This is an exceptional authentic Indian cookbook for those who are willing to invest the time for the proper outcome and want to expand their repertoire. In addition to the recipes, Camellia Panjabi has done an excellent job explaining the reasons for what and how the ingredients interact and enhance the collage of flavours in the dishes. The illustrations are first-rate. This book is not for those who want to quickly throw something together.
Customer Reviews:
Great introduction to Indian food.......2007-05-07
I received this book as a gift and at first sight put it alongside the growing pile of "ho hum" cooking books. As a regular visitor to India, I have collected more than my share of cooking books, none of them capture the essence of Indian food as well as this, while keeping it simple. The Introduction explaining the underlying philosophical assumptions behind a menu is interesting and enlightening. Above all the recipes work, which sadly is not often the case.
You'll think twice or thrice before ordering take out; go on make your own Indian feast!
Good Idea, Good Pictures, Bad on cooking steps.......2006-10-13
Having bought this book and making some of the curries. I found that the steps and the ingredients just do not jive at times. She should've spent more time make sure the steps were correct. The curries just didn't taste right.
New edition with corrections please for what could be a great book.......2006-05-01
The book is great for people who are already familiar with Indian cooking. What it does not specify is that Indian spices vary widely in potency and quality.Personally,I have needed to change proportions and cooking timings in every dish. Also far too many typos for an expensive book.
Mainly though, the ingredients are right, the sequencing works and it does enable one to make delicious curries. I do own over a hundred cookbooks including several Madhur Jaffery books and find hers go heavy on the oils and are far too much for the western palate. This book is easily the best of the lot. I wish the author would take the time and effort to do a truly authentic Indian cookbook...she certainly has the resources.
Absolutely beautiful.......2006-02-09
This book is worth buying just to look at! Reading the first 50 or so pages, you are provided with background information on the author's culinary experience, cultural influences, and most of all an in-depth look at the spices involved in cooking all Indian meals. Once one reaches the curry recipe portion of the book, one is treated to full page after full page of gorgeously arranged dishes of what looks to be delicious food. The only dilemma I foresee is having the book close enough to the cooking action - yet not so close as to risk splashing something on the pristine pages.
Easily one of the best..........2005-03-12
I own several Indian cook books (all the usual suspects!) and this is easily the best of the lot. I never knew about the book until I saw it on the shelves of a local book store. I I bought the book after browsing through the book for a few minutes. The main reason: the unbelievably intelligent introduction section that demystifies the main spices and other commonly used ingredients. After I got home, I also found out that this book has recipes of so many delightful curries (I blanche as I use this generic term) that turned out to be so different from each other. The intro chapter has made me enough of an expert to try my own variations. Thank you Panjabi for an excellent book!

100 Great Curries.......2007-07-22
A good book but surprised at the number of spelling mistakes in the text.
Tried a few recipes and found some measurements a bit confusing - for instance 2 and a half cups of lemon juice as stated was totally over the top for the dish, so I am guessing at the quantity I should be using.
Springboard to a lifetime of cooking.......2006-07-15
Once you've cooked a few "curries" (Eastern-derived vegetable or protein stews with spice-based sauces), you will be familiar with the basic process; this will open you up to create your own endless varieties of dishes. The ingeredients listed herein are characteristic mainly of South Asia and Southeast Asia, with a few notable additions from North Africa and East Asia. However, you can successfully adapt any of Floyd's (very simple; very user-friendly) recipes to any region of the world. For example, if you take one of his potato and cauliflower curries (of South Asian derivation) and substitute, say, unripe plantain and a few different spices, you will have made a typical East African dish. You can incorporate flavors from any region of the world; spiced stews are loved the world over.
I like how Floyd included multiple methods of prep, from sauteing wet curry paste before adding veggies-meat, to dry-toasting ground spices, to boiling unspiced meat in liquid first, to starting on stove and finishing up in oven. If there's a method you particularly like from one recipe, but ingredients from another recipe which you prefer, combine method A with ingredients B.
Beware, because Floyd is a great lover of spiciness, and almost every single recipe--even the cooling yogurt raita!--calls for literal handfuls of fresh hot chilies. I am of North African extraction, and that region's cuisine (except for Tunisia) generally favors spice (aromatic, fragrant, musky) over spiciness. There's no way I'm putting in all the fresh chilies Floyd calls for; one will do me fine.
The recipes are superbly easy and require no special equipment except for the odd one calling for a steamer. Essentially, the minimum you need is a wardrobe of good spices (which every cook should have anyway), protein (either flesh, beans, or eggs), garlic, onions and tomato paste/tomatoes. Optional items but items I highly recommend you stock always are: coconut milk (my addiction--Cook's Illustrated taste-tested several and found that my fave brands Chaokoh and Kame are the best); fresh cilantro by the bunches; honey; heavy or light cream to thicken before serving.
Note: almost every single ingredient in the book--from red/green Thai curry paste in a jar, to dried Asian mushrooms-- is available in both the Midwestern suburb and the Southern small town I have lived in. The few I have had trouble finding--dried shrimp, fresh frog legs--are not required, anyway.
This book is very resonably priced and includes many lovely photos. Try to get over Floyd's constant references to food-processing as "whizzing." The tribute to his mother is suitable and predisposed me to like him. The man likes good food, made simply, and he's not afraid of flavor experimentation. I'd buy another book by him.

That 1 star review should be disregarded - this book is superb!.......2006-05-25
I have just gone through the tedious process of checking 20+ of the recipes in this book, to see if any of them have errors given the listed ingredients. I found none!. Now why would I do that? As some one who has been cooking Indian food for 15 years, I rate this as one of the best Indian cookbooks (and one of my favourite of any style) and I own 100's of cookbooks, and 20+ Indian cookbooks.
The accuracy and presentaion in this book is as good as any book I have, and even better; the recipes are superb examples of their cuisine and easily done at home (though I say this as someone who is not a beginner cook!).
This is one of my first choices for an Indian cookbook, and I probably refer to this book more than any other Indian cookbook.
50 Great Curries of India.......2005-06-27
I was very disappointed in this cookery book. Many of the recipes have ingredients which are not included in the method of preparation. So after getting everything ready, one is left hanging in the air, wondering what to do with the ingredients that are not included.
