Book Description
Alex, Lassiter and Brukk all looked up at the same time when they heard the roar of the two low flying Fighters that buzzed their positions. It was immediately followed by an attack Jetcopter that hovered above. Military vehicles and soldiers began to drop down from airborne supply and troop carriers on all the hillsides. The first thought that came into the two adversaries minds was that the other had brought in air and ground support and they were about to be overrun. That thought stopped when a loudspeaker from the `copter' began its announcement.
ATTENTION COMBATANTS. YOU ARE ILLEGALLY WAGING ARMED CONFLICT. LAY DOWN YOUR WEAPONS. PLACE HANDS ON TOP OF HEAD AND COME INTO THE OPEN. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN AIR AND GROUND STRIKES ON ALL, I REPEAT, ON ALL YOUR POSITIONS. WE HAVE SEVERAL HUNDRED HELLPOINT TROOPS ON EACH OF YOUR FLANKS. IF EITHER GROUP FIRES ON THE OTHER OR ON OUR TROOPS WE WILL TAKE OUT YOUR ENTIRE POSITION. ACKNOWLEDGE BY THE LEADERS OF THE TWO GROUPS COMING INTO THE OPEN AND NO ONE WILL BE HARMED. YOU HAVE TWO MINUTES TO COMPLY OR FIRING WILL COMMENCE.

BURN THIS BOOK.......2006-03-22
Nathan Arnold has self published the worst sci-fi book I have ever read. There is nothing in this book that would make a reader do anything but lament that trees were killed to put this junk on paper; no story line, no character development, no compeling dialog. The author should return to teaching chemistry as writing is obviously not his thing.
Couldn't Put It Down.......2006-02-17
This book was recommended to me by a friend. I don't usually read sci-fi books, but this one I could not put down. Amazing characters, action and well written. Something in it for everyone.
Don't miss out on this one!
Only Sci-fi book I have ever enjoyed!.......2006-02-16
I dislike sci-fi in general, yet I stumbled across this book and I decided to give it a try. I fell in love with it. It had such a compelling story line, amazing character development, and an astonishing twist. Truly captivating, this book will entice even the most anti-scifi readers. It has a little bit of everything, from romance to adventure, sci-fi to comedy. Truly a master piece, this is a book you will be able to read again and again.
all-round amazing book.......2006-02-16
I like some sci-fi on tv, but not the movies and not usually sci-fi books. I absolutely LOVE this book. It has amazing character development, and you can really relate to them. Its also has a little bit of everything, action, adventure, comedy, romance, and yes, sci-fi. I would recomend this book to anyone who reads. Hope to see more by this author soon!
Very engaging story!.......2006-02-09
I don't usually like science fiction, but this was a really excellent book! It had a great story that kept my interest, and I found myself getting into each of the characters. Nathan Arnold is a great story teller - you can tell he has fun writing. A little something for everyone... romance, adventure, battles, technology, human interest. I highly suggest you pick up a copy of this book if you want a good read. You won't be disappointed!
Book Description
Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia (BHS) is known to be the definitive edition of the Hebrew Bible. It is widely regarded as a reliable edition of the Hebrew and Aramaic scriptures and is the most widely used original-language edition among scholars.
It is a revision of the third edition of the Biblia Hebraica edited by Rudolf Kittel, the first Bible to be based on the Leningrad Codex. The Leningrad Codex is the oldest complete Hebrew Bible still preserved. It originally appeared in installments, from 1968 to 1976, with the first one-volume edition in 1977; it has since been reprinted many times. The text is a nearly exact copy of the Masoretic Text as recorded in the Leningrad Codex. The Masoretic notes are completely revised.
Included is a foreword in German, English, French, Spanish and Latin as well as an English and German key to the Latin words, abbreviations and other symbols in the critical apparatus.
Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia (BHS) Compact Edition is identical in content to the standard edition (including the critical apparatus in Latin and the foreword in multiple languages); however, its size makes it exceptionally convenient for the student of Hebrew to carry and use. Its portable size in no way compromises the readability of both text and critical apparatus, which retains a bold, clear font.

Good price and Delivery.......2007-05-13
I bought this Bible on Amazon, because the price was better than brazilian's book stores. Besides, the delivery was according to the time preview on the amazon site.
I was very satisfied with the purchase.
Absolutes Perfekt!.......2007-04-10
This edition of BHS is beautiful, hardcover with cream-colored pages, a ribbon marker, and a good size Hebrew font (with diacritics). Introduction is in German, Latin, English, French, and Spanish. Notes on each page give various information, including Greek examples from the Septuagint (my favorite part). The book although nice is not oversized, at about 7 1/4" X 5 1/4" or so, very convenient. If you are a student of Hebrew you will get your money's worth.
This is it!.......2007-02-15
That's right, this is IT! When it comes time to get serious about Biblical research, this is THE book to have. Whether the professor has recommended it or the school requires it, this is the book you need to proceed. I wouldn't worry too much about which size type you order (the large vs the smaller edition), when you get to this stage in the game the damage is done anyway;) Save up, buy it, move on. That much is simple.

BHS paperback edition.......2007-05-07
A clearly printed, well-bound version of the BHS. The main drawback, in exchange for the compact size compared with the full-size, hardback edition, is that the Masorah Parva notes in the margins and the footnotes are so small that they are very difficult to read. A magnifying glass is required to ease the eye strain. While the price for this edition is attractive, I wish I had purchased the full-size, hardback edition.
Big enough to read.......2007-02-22
While it will add to your biceps more than likely, this edition is large enough to read. I bought the 1997 green cover BHS for the price, but it was so small that I came back and bought this one so I could see the holems and dageshes. Worth the money to see what you're doing.
BHS LARGE PRINT ED. .......2007-01-05
BOOK AS ADVERTISED, SOME SCATTERED MARKINGS OF NO CONSEQUENCE.
LARGE PRINT EDITION MUCH EASIER TO READ.
the standard critical text of the Hebrew Bible.......2006-07-03
In the field of Hebrew Bible/Old Testament studies, 'BHS' carries a well-deserved resonance, much like 'Mercedes' or 'Beamer' does among enthusiasts of quality cars that are within the mainstream.
The Deutsche Bibelgesellschaft's BIBLIA HEBRAICA STUTTGARTENSIA has no rivals except its own periodic updates. Like Mercedes and BMW, each edition represents improvements made to a venerable tradition, in this case one that associates its name with the renowned German scholars Alt, Eissfeldt, Kittel and their successors.
Following introductions in the major European languages and indices to the sigla that one uses to follow the textual information presented in the two 'apparati' (running footnote references) on each page of the text, one launches without comment into the biblical text itself. The gruntwork of editing and annotating each biblical book has been placed into the hands of particular scholars. As a result, the reluctance or daring with which the editors present evidence gleaned from Hebrew manuscripts and the early versions varies, but always within the general parameters established by the Biblica Hebraica tradition.
BHS is a 'diplomatic' edition. This means that a given text is presented as received. The apparati then provide the scholar with data from which he or she chooses to opt for a different 'reading' at any point along the way. The text in this case is variously known, but commonly called 'Leningradensis', a superb 11th-century manuscript in the Massoretic tradition. It is the earliest complete exemplar of the Massoretic biblical/textual tradition, thanks to the wear and scarring suffered by its slightly older cousin, the Aleppo Codex.
BHS is not a visual 'copy' of Leningradensis - one of this is available - but rather a machine-type presentation of that manuscript's contents. The quality of workmanship is awe-inspiring. Though I have worn out my share of BHS's, this is due to intensive use and occasional mistreatment in a backpack or overstuffed briefcase. I can scarcely imagined a more durable book.
The Gesellschaft will eventually produce the successor to BHS, to be titled BIBLIA HEBRAICA QUINTA. It will provide its reader with even more textual data, much of it gleaned from the Dead Sea manuscripts.
Quinta will earn its welcome. However, it is only with deep nostalgia that I will cede pride of place to the Quinta after having journeyed so long and contentedly with the incomparable BHS.
Large Font?.......2004-09-30
This book claims to be written in a large font, however the font is barely larger than the paperback edition. The large print edition is at most 2 points larger than the paperback, maybe a 12 or 13 point font. What makes this book bigger is the extra space at the bottom of the page which is not all that usefull for making notes. This edition is poorly laid out for enjoyable reading and useful notation. Don't waste you money to get this so called "large print" edition, you should probably just buy the regular sized one.
Book Description
Third Edition. This is the newest edition of a very popular manual which is used in classrooms around the world to assist students learning to read the Hebrew Bible. It contains a simple and straightforward discussion of the masoretes, the masoretic tradition, the critical apparatus of BHS, the Masora, the accents, unusual letters and other markings. The third edition contains an index. Also bound in this volume is Dr. H. P. Rüger's An English Key to the Latin Words and Abbreviations and the Symbols of Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia.
Customer Reviews:
a good help for beginners.......2004-06-12
The "quick and dirty" of the stranger markings of BHS. For those not well-versed in Latin, German, or Aramaic, this little reference is quite handy. Scott does not bother with the history or evolution of the Tiberian Masorah or other markings, but rather simply gives what is necessary to successfully derive meaning from both the Masorah Magna and Masora Parva (but not the Masorah Finalis) as well as some of the accentation and other markings. The most useful feature of this reference work is its size - it's very small and slim, so much so that it may have a propensity to get lost frequently.
A useful tool.......2002-03-04
If one is interested in decoding the minutia around the BHS text, then this book is an invaluable resource to have available.
Upon careful reading, I found the explanation of the accents in this volume to be adequate, especially when applied directly to individual verses in the BHS.
Too Much $$ for Getting So Little.......2001-02-16
This text has good and bad points. It's translation of terms in the back, the background information on text pointing, and the briefer listing and explanation of the MS accent system is probably less overwhelming than other such references. But in the end, one would purchase this overpriced book with the purpose of learning the uses of the accents in Hebrew pointed text. The book comes up way short.
After giving some specific information on certain common disjunctive accents, it then shows the rest of the disjunctive accents with little or no explanation as to what they are doing in the text. The conjunctive accents are listed separately with no explanation whatsoever as to how they work. And two of the most common text pointings found in the Hebrew Bible are missing! I've never found memorizing symbols without explanations to be of any help in anything.
One should just pay a little more money and buy a reference which gives all the accents and explains their uses. As it is, my copy of this book has told me virtually nothing that I hadn't already learned in the two Hebrew grammars/ workbooks I've used to learn Hebrew.
Invest your money elsewhere than in this book.
Serves its purpose.......2000-08-18
For those just beginning to work with the Hebrew Bible, this little guide can be very valuable. There is much in BHS that needs explaining, but is missing or difficult to comprehend in the front matter of BHS itself. The material in Scott's book is available in more substantial reference books on the Masorah ("The Masorah of BHS" by Kelley et al.) or textual criticism (see "Textual Criticism of the Hebrew Bible," by Emmanuel Tov), but these books are considerably larger and more expensive. The latter may be particularly difficult for beginners. As a quick and easy handbook for navigating BHS, Scott's book is very useful.
One thing more..........2000-07-01
You can see, from the dimension I presented below, that it's of the same width and height as Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia(Small Size). To make a jacket for the BHS and this booklet would be a good idea to keep them together.

The Masorah.......2007-01-17
This book is for the beginner, but should be appreciated by all. It says it's "aim is to acquaint them (i.e the student), with the tools necessary for ( study of Mesorah), and to demonstrate the use of these tools in a wide range of Mesoretic notes", and it does just that. It has a reasonable bibliography, and within the text mentions other volumes of interest, explaining their usefulness and limitations. It is keyed to BHS. This is a very valuable resource to those who "desire easy access to the study of Messorah".
Essential .......2006-02-27
The best reasonably available study on Masoretic information is Israel Yeiven, Tiberian Masorah. It gets the five stars. But it has not always been easy to find in the past, and the typography (a typewriter and pen) ain't so hot. ;-) I haven't seen editions where this is improved.
With some books what might follow is the distant runner-up you have to settle for as a replacement. But Kelley's intro is so good that the typical student will never know what s/he is missing from Yeiven. Typography is important for Hebrew, especially for us not 100% fluent seeing it every day of our reading lives. For example, Marcus Jastrow's "Dictionary" is a fantastic tool yet tortuous for one reason---the typography is not so good and the print in my edition is tiny and this hurts its practical value. But everything in this study of the Masorah is large, clear, and appealing in English and Hebrew (although there is not a great amount of Hebrew reading other than notation examples.)
Yeiven seems to assume a good understanding of biblical Hebrew, while this volume is truly geared to a student. (Yeiven should expect you to know your Hebrew!) This volume is also more easily available. It is not exhaustive, and don't even expect a discussion here of both masorah magna and parva.
If you cannot get Yeiven, don't worry and confidently settle for this book. If you can get Yeiven, go ahead and buy this one also.
one of the best tools for the masorah.......2004-06-12
One of the foremost contemporary compilations for aiding students in the ways of the Tiberian Masorah (magna and parva) in BHS. Brief histories are given, and brief summaries of every symbol encountered in the margins (masora parva) and footnotes (masorah magna) of BHS. I use this tool every time I read in BHS to aid me in understanding the Masorah, which adds much insight to the OT text. I openly recommend this book with no reservations whatsoever.
Don't Study the Massorah Without it.......2002-08-04
This main reason to buy this is for the annotated glossary od massoretic terms. It's the best guide to use those oh-so-cryptic massoretic notes on the margins of BHS. Many detailed definitions of the words and abbreviations-- far more useful information than most other similar introductions to BHS. I give it four stars instead of five because I wish they had done the same thing for the critical apparatus at the bottom. Other books cover the critical apparatus, but I think these authors could explain it much better than any other book currently does.

Excellent Bible for Theology students........2006-11-10
It is great to have both the Greek and the Hebrew in one Bible, and it is even better that these are good translations.
Missing pages and amazon's unwillingness to help.......2006-10-27
Buyer Beware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I examined my Greek New Testament, I found that it was missing Ephesians through 1 Peter. Luckily, those books are not that important. Oh wait, yes they are! But not to worry, Amazon backs all their products- except this one. Actually they will not replace, refund, or credit your account, but they will keep you on hold and subject you to elevator music.
Sam Lee, Duluth, MN.......2005-04-24
This is the book that most Bible translations are translated from. If you read the introduction to your Bible you can verify this information. It can be bought for less than $100.00 from the American Bible Society's website: bibles.com. I recomend this book to anyone who wants to learn biblical languages or wants to see the text that biblical scholars use.
Two Texts in One at a Great Price.......2003-09-26
This combined binding of the Nestle Aland Greek Text and the Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia is a very nice quality edition making it much easier to carry both texts (great for seminary students). The Greek text is larger than that of the smaller Greek texts I've used while the Hebrew text appears clear and very readable even with my "mature" eyes (textual apparatus, vowel points, accents and breathing marks are easily distinguished) even though the overall page size has been reduced from the standard edition of the BHS. The margins have a fair amount of space for notations as well.
Hebrew and Greek Scholarly Bible.......2001-11-27
(...)Hopefully this will help you with your purchasing decision.
The Hebrew text appears to be formatted exactly as my previous BHS (ISBN: 3438052199), including the critical apparatus and pagination. My previous BHS is the smaller, rather than the larger, BHS. The typesize is the same.
The Greek text is the same text as my previous UBS4 (ISBN: 3438051133), but the critical apparatus is organized differently because it is from NA27. The pagination differs as well. The typesize appears the same.
Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase. I am still studying both Greek and Hebrew at seminary, and appreciate the convenience of lugging one less book around. It should prove similarly convenient for devotional use.

Student at Ashland Theological Seminary.......2005-03-17
This book is excellent in the sense that it is so compact and can be compared to other books of the Hebrew Bible at the same time. Because it is paper it is much more flexible than the hardback edition, it is wonderful to be able to carry it around.
The print size is excellent also.
I highly recommended it.
