A fun book to read. The story, based on the Capcom NES game of the same name, is well-written. It isn't hard to read, so younger fans of the series will be able to enjoy reading it. It follows the game's story well, though the tips scattered throughout the book aren't always great. :-)

I needed help, but sorely disappointed!.......2004-04-13
I thought that this book would be more helpful than it was. In fact, out of the church seasons I have used it, Advent through Easter, I have used material from it only twice. The format is appealing if you use a lectionary to develop your preaching calendar, but for the cost, it should be more productive. Part of the problem is that it is much to brief on a week to week basis. Not helpful at all!

Author Amy Hammond Hagberg wanted to help teens--her own and others--answer questions about God, including the big question: "How do you know he's real?"
Hagberg wrote to sports stars, recording artists and other celebrities, asking them to reflect on their life experiences and share how the reality of God was making a difference to them personally and professionally. The responses she received--from NBA players, Christian musicians, 'American Idol' contestants and others--are honest, revealing, and often compelling.
The resulting book is a collection of celebrity essays: mini-bios that focus on the reality of God in the midst of media attention, success and failure, and broken relationships. Contributors include Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic basketball team, quarterback David Carr of the Houston Texans, and popular Christian recording artist Clay Crosse.
Some of the interviews are especially helpful for Hagberg's original target readers: teens. This is an ideal book to give to people who have questions about becoming a Christian, and who love sports and music celebrities.
44 extreme sports and music celebrities tell their stories in this book, from Jonny Lang (recording artist), to Barlow Girl (rock group), Kimiko Soldati (Olympic diving), CJ Hobgood (surfer), Dwight Howard (NBA player, Orlando Magic), Mick Hannah (downhill mountain bike racer), Jimmie McGuire (professional motocross rider) and more.
They share hard times they faced, how they became Christians and how their paths are more joyful due to their faith. Being a Green Bay Packer fan I turned to Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila's story of growing up in South Central Los Angeles with a tough background, a Muslim dad and a Christian mom, and how his becoming a Christian led to his current happy family life and NFL career. Christian Hosoi, professional skateboarder, after serious drug problems, is now leading a skateboarding ministry.
The two page "God's Road Map" at the end of each celebrity's story contains perceptive questions and Scriptures. Sports and music lovers will enjoy this book, and it can even be a "past watchful dragons book" that will steer doubting people on a new clear path.
god unplugged.......2007-02-02
God Unplugged by Ammy Hagberg was very interesting. It is 403 pages long and was published in 2006 by Destiny Image. In the story top athletes, musicians, and also stars tell how god helped them get where they wanted to be and changed their lives.
In the story there were 44 celebrity reflections on true life experiences with god. Many of these celebrities have been extremely low in their lives and god has pulled them out of them. Also in some cases they have had no luck in there lives and finally achieved their goals after they gave there lives god. All of these people believe that god has either given them opportunities or even the strength to work through where they were to get to where they want to be.
I thought that this was a good book. I enjoyed reading it and seeing how god has changed all of these people's lives. The strengths of this book are that it has top named celebrities that people actually want to read about. The weakness of this book is that there is nothing to find out nest so you don't have a reason to keep reading. I did like how god actually gave them the strength to continue and succeed in life. The writing was very boring to me, but I liked the idea.
The book gave a lasting effect on me because I have a saint Christopher necklace that my grandma gave to me before she passed away and that keeps me safe when I race motorcross. So, I think that god has a great power on us. I would recommend this book, it will make you think.

Truly, this, and the book before this, are really awesome books!
** Why?
Because they give some very good insights into other peoples way to God. Not only that, if you don't know the Bible inside and out (and even if you do, actually!), there are quotations from the Bible explaining the why and hows, depending on the story of the person interviewed.
All this, with Amy Hagbergs very nice way of writing (down to earth serious mixed with a nice blend of humor) makes this book a pleasure to read!
Personally, I strongly recommend this book to everyone. It might be those who Seek, or those who have found, it doesn't matter, in my opinion! :)

Feminist liturgy.......2000-04-04
"Celebrating Women" is an extraordinary collection of prayers, collects, psalms, liturgical statements, and just plain feminist writings. It contains material that is useful for the entire church year. I often read selections for my personal devotions. A favorite is "Not Circle Dancing" which repeats the line - I am a different kind of woman. I have given copies of this book to other "different kinds of women" for special occasions.

This is a wonderful book - written in a simple, clear style yet filled with deep insight. The author has a true heart for God, and writes with compassion for her brothers and sisters in Christ.

Of the reviews listed here as of this date, only one departs from a laudatory amen.
Ms. Smith has offered a perspective which I believe could be an advance for some but possibly a snare for others.
With only a an uncertain grasp of her life gleaned from surfing the net, these thoughts present themselves:
Much like Christ himself, she grew up in a religious tradition (Quakerism) that her spiritual journey required her to depart from. It is fairer to say the book has been written by a religious rebel than by a Quaker.
Again, like Christ, she looks to God the Father.
Like Christ, she attracted followers and supporters.
Like Christ, within the boundaries of loving God, she offers faith and hope. I come away from Christ with more of a sense of the importance of charity than I do after reading Ms. Smith.
Again, assuming that biographical material perused after reading the book is true, the encouragement and success of the book is understandable. However, material is never confronted which might have been had the book title been 'The Joy of Being Crucified With Christ'

ALL Christians ~ New and Mature NEED to read this book, absorb it, and allow God to work through it, you will never be the same, it is absolutely Life Changing, and yes IGNORE the 1 bad rating, they must have read it looking for "a secret" to be happy, or get happy, or something, not understanding that GOD HIMSELF is the secret. Hannah Whitehall Smith was talking to a friend. The friend was telling her that most of the Christians she knew seemed sad and miserable, and if this is what Christianity is like, she can't imagine too many people ever becoming interested in having a relationship with Christ.
This bothered Hannah, so she sought the Lord for the secret of a happy life. This book is the fruit of her discovery. The first part of the book gives the scriptural evidence that God wants us to live a happy Christian life. She refers to Romans 6:1-6, Ephesians 4:22-24, and Matthew 1:21 (It would have been helpful if the author would have put the scripture references next to the quotes as I am doing now, perhaps this probem was alleviated in more recent editions of the book. I am using the 1976 Revell edition). Part one also describes God's role in this life and our role.
Part two is a discussion of the some of the difficulties that we experience as we strive to live the happy life that God wants for us. Whitall Smith deals with temptation, failures, doubts, and our own stubborn wills. She tells stories and gives examples of people who are sturggling, and others who found victory.
The final section of the book describes the results of living the life that God blesses. We experience deliverance from bondage, spiritual growth, joy that comes from our obedience to God, and the blessing of having a special union with God.
This is a Christian classic, and even after all these years, it still speaks. Highly recommended.

This book should be given to every person who accepts Jesus as Lord and Saviour the moment they receive Him!!!!! If those who have not yet accepted Him would only read this book, MANY misconceptions about who God is, and what a Christian is, would dissolve, leaving them free to "see Him as He really is"!!!!!!!!!
I HIGHLY recommend this book to ANYONE wanting to get closer to the Lord, realize more deeply His heart for us, and understand more clearly how He works in our lives!

I know this to be an excellant book. However, I received the package in the mail on 8/11/07 and it was empty. There was no tape on the ends of the cardboard and the book must have slid out in shipping. Would you please send me another copy.This is a packaging issue and not a postal problem. A Must Read.......2007-07-05
This book was one of the most meaningful books I have ever read ! It is a book which will give you a real perspective on life and the roads we travel along the way.It makes a lot of things very clear and helps one to understand the simple ways God works in our lives. Although this publication is arranged for children, those of us in our "mature years" can benefit from these timeless truths. Through analogy, Hannah Hurnard explains pain, sorrow, and difficulties as a necessary part of the Shepherd/King's plan for enabling us to leap through the high places with Him while love is blossoming in our hearts. Sharing this book with those important younger ones in our lives will guide them in accepting with joy and bearing with love while being transformed from a cripple to one with hind's (deer) feet. This book was outstanding to me! I could not put it down. Personaly my life was filled with so much fear, that I could really relate to the main charachter's battle in trying to overcome it. The results of her adventure is so true, her whole world changes, she begins to see life with new eyes. I highly recommend this book.
Get Ya Through A Rough Time.......2007-05-13
This is one of my favorite books of all times. This book was given to me about 14 years ago when I was going through my divorce and I was about as low as I could get-I felt like I was worthless and nobody loved me. It really helped me get through a rough time, pick myself up and realize I was not alone. I realized what a wonderful person I was, always was and always will be. Since then I have passed the book along to probably a dozen or more people and they all have said the same for this little book. When I am down, I pick it up and read it again (parts or all of it). It is really an inspirational book for anyone. Highly recommend this book!

I have read Hannah Hurnard's Hinds' Feet on High Places, but this one hit my heart as nothing I have read in a long time. There is so much division and judgment against one another in the Christian community and I see Hannah's revelation as the only answer for Unity in the Body of Christ. Return to your first love.

The very questions that nag at any Christian who has tried to walk as Jesus walked are faced in this wonderful small book. How can I love? How can I love people who I know are not perfect, not even good--how can I overlook their faults? How can I love without being a total hypocrite, or without being mindless? How can I pray for people in love? How can I be transformed? Will I have to wait till I die to be perfected in love? (see I John 4, 12 and 17--love HAS BEEN perfected in us!) Hannah Hurnard opens her heart and tells us that she struggled long and hard with these questions, and that she refused to accept the easy answers that leave so many of us feeling powerless, guilty, and half-alive. And she speaks plainly--no "reckoning", no "words of faith" that seem to just refuse to face reality. She has given me great hope.
