Book Description
Each year, thousands of children are born with facial difference-abnormalities of the bones and tissues of the head and face that are present at birth or appear a few years later. Some conditions occur more commonly, such as cleft lip and cleft palate, while others, such as hemifacial microsomia, Treacher Collins, Apert, and Crouzon syndromes, are rarer. In addition to the emotional hardship of a different appearance and the attached stigma, some of these conditions pose special health concerns.A resource that parents can turn to for help is Children with Facial Difference, the first comprehensive book to provide parents with up-to-date information and support.
Children with Facial Difference helps parents understand and cope with the challenges presented by their child's condition: Diagnosis; Causes and the genetic likelihood of recurrence; Emotional adjustment; Medical concerns and multi-disciplinary treatment approaches; Self-esteem; Family and community life; Speech, language, and hearing needs; Education; and Insurance issues, legal rights, and advocacy.
Each chapter of Children with Facial Difference includes parent statements, reassuring and useful bits of information and insights from parents of children with facial difference. These statements help alleviate feelings of isolation and provide comfort and support. With a foreword by Joseph E. Murray, M.D., a Nobel Prize winner in medicine and a pioneer in craniofacial surgery, this book also includes a glossary of terms, a reading list, a resource list of organizations, and an index.

A very comprehensive book; a "must" for parents/caregivers.......2000-06-01
For me and for several other parents of children with facial differences, this book has become an essential handbook, in essence, to some of us, this book has become our "Bible."
Among the various titles that the author holds, the most impressive title, is that of "Mother" of a child with a facial difference. This is perhaps the reason that this book is so amazingly comprehensive. It is quite evident that the text was written with a great deal of careful research and integrity. Too often, parents recieve erroneous information regarding their child's condition. This book, however, is one that parents, caregivers, and medical professionals can count on for accuracy.

Craniofacial of Trauma
Manufacturer: Oxford University Press, USA ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0192628569 |
Book Description
Over the past decade there have been major advances in the management of patients with craniofacial trauma. These have been fuelled by new concepts and techniques arising from the elective repair of congenital craniofacial deformities, and also by the increase in survival after trauma, due to improved resuscitation techniques. More radical approaches to complex problems have been achieved by multidisciplinary teams, with close collaboration between the neurosurgeon, maxillofacial surgeon, otorhinolaryngologist, opthalmic, plastic, and accident and emergency surgeon. This book is the first to provide an multidisciplinary approach to the management of cranio-facial trauma. Each section has been written by a specialist involved in cranio-facial trauma, from the point of view of their own particular discipline, and presents vital information on the practical management strategies.

Business, Religion, & Spirituality: A New Synthesis (The John W. Houck Notre Dame Series in Business Ethics)
Manufacturer: University of Notre Dame Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
ASIN: 0268021740 |
Book Description
The new emphasis on spirituality in the workplace has been widely discussed in recent years and reported in major publications such as the Wall Street Journal and Fortune. Spirituality seems to be a basic human good essential for human flourishing. The contributors to this volume are all proponents of spirituality in the workplace, yet all raise important questions about this movement and what it means. What are the moral questions that should guide leaders? Is spirituality being treated as simply an instrumental good, valued for its usefulness in enhancing productivity and well-being? What are the responsibilities of business leaders? Of business schools and their faculty? Of churches? The essayists in this collection reflect on these and other pertinent questions. The common thread linking these authors is that all have distinguished themselves in their respective fields or professions and all wish to advance spirituality in business. Contributors to Business, Religion, and Spirituality provide a sober, but positive, prognosis for this new growth in spirituality while offering direction for the future.
