Not awful but not fantastic either. .......2007-09-03
Oh all of the stories the kindest thing you can say about most of them is "uninspired." For the last time people Alternate History means Alternative not one more meaningless series of reversal stories and superman stories.
Reversal stories are what I call those stories where the historical events are the same but the players are on opposite sides. An example of this would be John Paul Jones fighting for the British Navy(Granted this appeared in Alternate Generals #1 but the theory is sound).
Superman stories are where the greatest military minds in history just so happen to be present for a particular battle at a particular time. One example of this story in this volume is "I shall return" where Billy Mitchell, George Patton and Omar Bradly stop the invasion of the Philippines.
The only story worth anything in this hum-drum so-so installment is about the conversion of the Mongols to the Jewish faith.
Overall-Are these stories all that bad or do I just read to many of them? I wish I knew which.

Harry Turtledove edits ALTERNATE GENERALS III, which provides a series of alternate reality stories recreating history as it could have been had decisive battles and encounters been different. Any fan of alternate history science fiction will find this an excellent collection.
Better Than the First, Less Than the Second.......2007-06-25
I like alternate history stories. That's what this is. Each short story asks "what if" to change an important point in history. They are generally very entertaining to me.
That being said, I did not care all that much for the first volume. The second was a great improvement and I had high hopes for this one. Instead, it fell somewhere between the first two.
The stories are generally creative and are technically well written but are not always that interesting. That does not keep the occasional nugget from being present but they are too far between.

I didn't even realize this book was out until I happened to pick it up. An excellent collection of stories, from the subtle to the totally weird, this collection is worth looking into. If you like alternative histories you won't be able to help liking this one.
Nice Alt-Hist Collection.......2005-09-29
As with the other two volumes in the series, this book ranges far and wide through the what-if universe. My particular favorite is Old Hickory's stand in Savannah, written as a series of letters between two brothers. This is a well written collection. However, I did not like "First, Catch an Elephant" at all, it doesn't seem to fit the tone of the book, especially when compared to "Murdering Uncle Ho."

While Stein's books can be challenging to understand, her connection to spiritual guidance is clear. Each time I complete one of her Essential Energy Balancing books, I am able to understand her work more clearly. This is the third in her series. I encourage everyone who wishes to evolve and heal to guide yourself thru all of her Essential Energy books. Tremendous amounts of healing can take place.
awesome - life changing - but read the first two in the series first.......2006-07-11
This book is as life-changing as the first couple in the series. One builds on the next. I was skeptical at first - but wow am I glad I went into it with an open mind and tried out these processes. The shift I experienced is hard to describe with mere words. Try it and you'll see!!!

I have read and done the processes in this whole series starting with Essential Energy Balancing I. I don't know that I would have if I didn't have such a high regard for Diane's earlier work Essential Reiki, because the contents of this series is pretty far out! Trust it though, and give it an honest, open-minded try and you will be astounded. So much weight has been lifted off of my shoulders and from my heart, I am a new person. These books truly are transformational.

When using language ...which is essentially dualistic it is very difficult to express none dual,one substance..... to express anything is instantly me/other. This is a wonderful example of Dr wolinsky`s ability to "teach" Nothingness.
if you are Buddhist, none dual, or just curious...buy this book.

Unlocking the Mysteries of That ONE Substance.......2005-01-31
I really enjoyed this book. First of all, it is an excellent introduction of Buddhism, Advaita-Vedanta, Neuroscience, Linguistics, Quantum Physics and Philosophy. The thought process is very simple and understandable. "Question Everything don't Believe Anything". Walden III is a fresh intellectual breeze that clears away much of the smog and dust obscuring core issues surrounding Spirituality and most important the use of language in Spirituality. From Quantum Physics to Theology, from the Philosophy to the Neuroscience, Dr. Wolinsky addresses all with refreshing clarity. I thoroughly enjoyed every page of Walden III, although familiar with the subject of That One Substance this book is an Eye opener about the power of Enquiry into the nature of "I Am"
I recommend it highly.
The clearest book on non-duality to date........2003-11-02
Dr. Wolinsky, in Walden III, deconstructed more constructs than I ever imagined I had.
His use of science and spirituality, along with philosophy and neuroscience led me through and into nirvana. It was truly MIND-BLOWING.
What impressed me most, was, that unlike most self-realized teachers or gurus, Wolinsky deconstructs his own approach leaving us with no path, guru, or dogma to hold on to.
This at first felt "scary" but then "freeing", as "the understanding" revealed itself, and everything dissolved.
Enjoy the end of the journey.

In Walden III, Dr. Wolinsky provided me with a scientific approach to understanding basic spirtual truths.
Wolinsky out does himself by not only including Buddhism, and Advaita-Vedanta, but also western philosophy and science. For me, this approach touched the soul of what spirituality is.
His is a strong and relentless approach that I have not seen since reading Wolinsky's guru, Nisargadatta Maharaj in I AM THAT.
This penetating book, led me to a clearer understanding of Nirvana. A must read for any serious seeker.

OUTSTANDING COMMENTARY.......2006-07-06
In critical matters one might consult several different editions of the I Ching in order to get a relavent understanding of the hexagram cast. Into this arena comes the Everyday I Ching with valuable interpratations not to be found anywhere else. Explanations of hexagrams and lines that modern people can relate to and utilize. Superb commentary--a very worthy addition to a I Ching collection and good enough to be your ONLY edition you're going to own just one.
One of the simplest books on I Ching........2005-12-22
After looking around for books on I Ching I chose this book and another.This book has good reviews so that helped.This book is greatly detailed on what the meanings are.The way the author does her readings are differ slightly to others.That may be a bonus to some.Once you have follwed the instructions it wont take long to do a reading for yourself.
There are very few books that you can read that will help you learn something easily and is easy to understand.This book is one of those few books.This book was my 2nd choice.
The other beginners book I recommend is:"The I Ching made easy:be your own psychic advisor using the world's oldest oracle".By Roderick Sorrell and Amy Max Sorrell.And,I recommend these:
1)"Practical guide to the I Ching".By Kim-Anh Lim.
2)"I Ching:a new interpretation for modern times".By Sam Reifler.

I've tried several I Ching books, but this is for sure was the best I have tried so far; it's accurately detailed and amazingly to the point.
God's Gift !.......2001-03-29
Having read all the wonderful reviews on this book reveals us a blessed lot. Ms Dening is truly gifted in her understanding of the ways I Ching is supposedly intepreted and she has no parallel when it comes to accuracy. Reading the wisdom made so simple and logical by the author is almost like having a celestial dialogue with the I Ching Sage himself. Like many, I have had studied this ancient wisdom for more than 10 years and read many books on this art, but truly, Ms Dening is THE authority for its accuracy and subtle messages.
Her book has NEVER been wrong in the advice dispensed for the path set and I am always grateful to have this friend looking out for me. There was one time I "disobeyed" the advice and out of self pride, I made a serious mistake in deciding on an investment that truly turned bad (as the I Ching had predicted against all odds).I really paid the price for my own foolishness and am still paying for it now. I have had since apologised to it's essence and reverted back to respecting the accuracy and wisdom without doubt.
If you really want to know what actions to take or to hold, or how to approach problems in the best ways possible, or even know whether the climate is right for investments, then start a friendship with this "bible"...you will be a changed person and a better one for it. Good luck.
Thought-provoking insights into situations of change.......2000-04-21
The book has a nice layout and is easy to understand for a new user of the I Ching. I first checked this book out from the public library, but after three renewals (and my husband also interested) I knew it was a book I wanted in my personal library. I find it very useful in bringing to light aspects of a situation that I had not noticed before.

Didn't I tell you this book was chock full of information?!
My only criticism of this hardcover book is that it's printed in bold font (it reminds me of the yellowed hardcover books from the 1950's!) that I find a bit irritating to read for some reason. After awhile, the words almost swim before my eyes--perhaps because the font seems small, as well.
If you're fascinated by divination methods, mystical practices and shamanism, I think you'll be very pleased with this affordable book!
