The good part about this book is that the author really encourages woman to treat themselves better. It is true that once you are comfortable and happy with yourself, it will show through for others to see, thus resulting in more positive attention from the male gender. I can honestly say Thank You to Lisa because it made me realize that I don't have to settle for less in a man than I want.

This book is not what it says it is, and is a waste of time for any intelligent girl, or any one at all really. It basically tells you how to be dishonest and shallow and that is how to get what you want. Not much different from most any other book in this genre, so I would stick with a Vogue style relationship quiz and probably get more out of it than you would out of this book. Or honestly just be yourself and you'll have more luck than any advice you could get here.

The book is fine, but I expected more. If you haven't read anything on this subject, it is a good place to start, but if you have read other stuff, it may be a bit repetitive. The "rotation" was a new idea though.
If you do buy it, I suggest to also get something else. You can finish it in a couple of hours, and if you have to wait for several weeks like I had to, it would be frustrating.

Just when I thought I'd never laugh again the bittergirls came to the rescue! The bittergirls made me laugh out loud, asked some great questions and made me think long and hard about this break-up. honestly. i went from thinking i was a happy, balanced seemingly normal gal, to feeling like an angry, lost and slightly psychopathic wreck. this read gave me a hearty laugh and some damn good pointers to getting it togther. um... perspective! plus the voices of a few other ladies who have clearly been there. even if you're not broken up, you probably will be eventually at some point (sorry... just the way the cookie crumbles) or you'll need to advice another fellow foe. so read the book anyway! it's a fun AND funny ride that will make any state feel better.

As the synopsis above mentions, `Dumped' is a story of two people, their unusual attachments to possessions, and the impact of these attachments on their relationships. The title can be read in a number of ways - the ending of a relationship, and/or the jettisoning of material possessions. Heck, it even appears in the title of a book in the story. Watson does a nice job of combining the different potential meanings of the title to create a common theme for the book. Each of the main characters collects something: for Binny, it's old books with handwritten notes and other personal touches. For Debby, it's vintage clothing. Each believes that their artifacts have stories to tell, beyond the obvious qualities that might be seen by a casual observer. Binny and Debby recognize the extraordinary in the ordinary (and even ugly) objects most of us would regard as "old junk". Whether they can do the same in human beings remains to be seen, as it seems each is more interested in tapping into the memories of strangers - as expressed in their old possessions - than in creating their own experiences worth remembering. Can they move beyond this to find love? Read and find out...
Watson's spare, economical storytelling shows a full command of the comics vocabulary. The story is expertly paced, never rushed but never lagging. His minimalist linework reduces characters to their emotional essence - he can convey more with two or three lines than many other artists can with a fully-rendered expression. Very pleasing to the eye.
`Dumped' was a disarmingly quick read; it can easily be digested in one sitting. Like any good short story, however, it rewards repeat readings. While it doesn't carry the deepest of philosophical messages, it presents a true-to-life picture of everyday people and their relationships, with a nice thematic overlay. I'd never read anything by Andi Watson before, but on the strength of this, I'll be looking for more of his work.

It was very bizarre how many EXACT conversations I found in this book that I had had with my husband (now ex-husband, of course) - this book is the best thing to read when you are dumped! I carried it around with me for months in case I needed a pick-me-up.

For the first time in my life, I found myself being the "Dumpee". Somehow, in the fog of hurt I found the book Dumped! I began reading the preface and immediately found three things that had happened to me that are "classic" in being dumped. I was hooked and rapidly read this wonderful book. It was of great help in my realizing what had happened, what I could do to pull myself out of the slump I was in, and to realize that I am still a likeable person. I have since passed Dumped! on to friends who have been dumped...seems to be an epidemic lately. Buy it...you'll like it!

A friend gave me a copy of this book "Dumped" and it has been like finally having a friend who understands what I have been through. Six months ago,my husband left me for another woman after 16 years of marriage. I didn't know that there was Hell on earth until that happend. When you are dumped, it is really hard for other people to understand the trauma and emotion. While I got sympathy at first, after the first few weeks, people don't want to talk about it anymore and yet I couldn't seem to control my own emotions and began to feel like a pariah. While I understood that, I really didn't understand a lot of my own emotions and trauma. Ms. Warren has put it all in perspective for me and really made it easier to cope with this dramatic change in my life. I just hope that many other women ( and men) will have the chance to read this book. I would suggest that it would be useful to read it before you may be faced with a breakup as it would really help you to understand the signs and perhaps deal with them without so much pain and trauma. Thanks for your help Sally.

This book is a bunch of trite cliches and not worth much in terms of trying to understand what's happening to you when you go through something so devastating. It's all about buying yourself lattes and getting massages. It is really a recycled version of "The Rules" applied to a breakup and it is not worth your money.

This book is probably the best self-help text available on this topic & applicable to anyone going through this mess called "getting dumped" - irregardless of even sexual orientation (my dumper was a woman). It really helped a LOT and my copy is dogeared, tearstained, in my purse to stay along with my lipstick & brush, well loved and STILL used. Do NOT miss this book! It has been INVALUABLE in my healing process.

Dumped is a great book to read if you have just been dumped or if you are still hurting from a dump in the past....The stories are really sad but they are enjoyable to read....it is nice to read that these characters are going through the same emotions that i am going through right now....
one of my favorite stories in the book is "lamb for a slaughter" (or something like that)....you will be surprised with the wife's reaction when her husband tells her that he is leaving her.

Nothing says "hell hath no fury" quite like this wonderful and literary collection of short stories. Dumped is a brokenhearted person's legacy. After all, the stories illustrate the pain, anguish and vengeful feelings that people experience after being chucked. They also address various ways in which romantic relationships deteriorate. But the aforementioned things are done with earnest humor and bittersweet language. The authors -- Saul Bellow, Alice Munro, Lorrie Moore, Dorothy Parker, Raymond Carver, etc -- are second to none. My favorite story is Roald Dahl's "Lamb to Slaughter." Said story spoke to me. I recommend this wonderful effort to anyone who's ever been "dumped." In other words, I recommend this to everyone.
A Hoot Of A Book.......2003-02-01
Will Self. Raymond Carver. Dorothy Parker. Roald Dahl. OMG could we get a better collection of the best writers ever! I was reticent about the book's topic - relationship meltdown - but it's not a downer at all. It's a hoot! My absolute favorite writers are Carver, Parker and Dahl so I new from the get go that this book would be a good read. Then to discover the inclusion of Will Self, whose name I'd oft heard but who I'd never read, was a treat. Another plus - I found a whole bag of cool writers to add to my favorites list: Self, Almond, Angguish. This book rocks!!
Laughter and Tears.......2003-01-29
This anthology of stories about the end of romantic relationships made me laugh, a lot, and even made me cry. There is a wide range of authors, from famous literati such as Dorothy Parker and Tobias Wolff to relative newcomers. I loved 99% of these stories, which for an anthology is an impressive strike record. I particulalrly liked the stories by the newcomers, notably Dallas Angguish. Who is this person? His story is poignant to the point of heartbreak, and really funny. A quick search of the web finds Dallas Angguish's poetry wedsite 'Prose Machine' (members.fortunecity.com/powaboy), a bit rough around the edges design-wise but with illuminating poems similar to Sylvia Plath and Allen Ginsberg. Buy this book - it'll give your Valentine's Day teeth.

We live in a time when marital fidelity is under assault. Driven by the forces of relativism, our society assaults sexual fidelity on numerous fronts. The push for homosexual marriages, for example, comes at the end of the fall into perversion, not the beginning. Faithless husbands began the fall long ago, and our culture, with all its washed-out self-help books, fails to address the real problem-sin.
Addressed to men, Fidelity hits hard, using clear language, focusing on specific sins with specific solutions: adultery, divorce, polygamy, celibacy, pornography, and more. But in the end, the antidote to all sexual temptation is simple-the godly honoring of the marriage bed: "Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge" (Heb. 13:4).

I recently read this book prior to being married. It was invaluable. Very eye opening and stimulating. Mr. Wilson uses plain, no-nonsense language to speak to men in the way they need to hear, to tell them the things they need to know of the Bibles stance on a variety of sexual issues. My now wife read a chapter that I showed her prior to our wedding and said that it helped her immensly and even releived some of the wedding night anxiety she was feeling.

This essay is thorough in its presentation of the Scriptural passages relevant to the different issues of sexual morality: adultery, homosexuality, abstinence before marriage, etc. But that's it. The relevant passages from Scripture are presented, Mr. Wilson assures us that he agrees with them, and that's that. In other words, anyone seeking to understand WHY the Scriptures testify to a certain code of sexual morality will find nothing here.
Most people are familiar with the principles of strict Christian sexual virtue, even if they cannot recite the verses of the Bible that teach it. So teaching abstinence and chastity is not primarily a matter of explaining to people what they must and must not do: they already know all that. What most people are confused about is WHY they must be chaste. So many Christians today say, my faith and trust for eternal salvation are in Christ, I am saved... so why shouldn't I have sex with my girlfriend? Or my gay lover? They just don't see any connection between the Western Christian message of salvation and a strict code of sexual morality, and Wilson's book here will offer them no further insight.
Why does God care how we conduct ourselves sexually? Didn't Christ say, "Let no one call anything the Father has created unclean?" And didn't the Father create sex? So why would sex upset Him? How is chastity relevant to the spiritual life? How and why will unchaste thoughts and behavior corrupt our hearts? When people encounter sexual temptations they are very powerful and without a thorough grasp of the implications of our moral choices and lifestyles to the spiritual life and salvation, very few find themselves strong enough to resist it.
Again, this book only outlines the principles of chastity in a legalistic manner that is based in Protestant Pietism. If the moral reprimand of Scripture strikes fear into your heart, this might be enough to keep you straight. But few people today, Christian or not, are afraid of the Bible.
Sexual virtue as rightly understood in the context of the historical, apostolic Christian faith is a matter of asceticism: to understand why one must struggle to remain sexually chaste, one must first understand why he must fast, why he must deny his impulses and desires generally. So a substantial explanation of the necessity of asceticism is prerequisite to any discussion of sexual chastity; but Wilson does not seem to understand this, and offers no insight in this regard. If you seek a deeper understanding of Christian sexual morality, then, I recommend The Freedom of Morality by Christos Yannaras and Ascending the Heights: A Layman's Guide to the Ladder, by Fr. John Mack.
Remove the "No Girls Allowed" Sign.......2006-04-22
As I was working my way through the Canon Press family series I went ahead and read Fidelity. Although it's written for men, I think many (though not all) Christian women will find, as I did, that it is a useful corrective to the misinformation they've been assaulted with all their lives. It's not that I learned anything new or surprising about sex in this book; it was more that, especially in the last chapter, Mr. Wilson creates a picture of godly sexuality that puts all the old information into the right context and in the right proportions -- like reassembling a Picasso into a Rembrandt.
I wasn't sure if I should read this book -- it might as well have a "No Girls Allowed" sign on it -- but I am glad I did. Someone needs to write a version that women aren't afraid to buy or read. (Yes, I've read Elisabeth Elliot's books, but they aren't quite on the same level.) Ironically, it may be the very desire to protect the purity of Christian women that tends to keep such a purifying book out of the hands of those whom it might benefit. Granted, women who were lovingly shielded from exposure to what the world has to say (and show and tell) about sex probably don't need it, so Fidelity might do them more harm than good. But for women to whom the harm has already been done -- by their own sin or others', by misinformation or abuse, by media or "education" -- it should be considered as a possible curative. For me, reading Fidelity was like giving my soul a long-needed bath.

The BEST book on the subject........2004-07-01
I have read other books like this before, but none hold a candle to Wilson in this regard. Fidelity is a must read for every Christian man, married or not. Wilson is blunt, biblical and pastoral in how he treats topics such as fornication, masturbation, rape, adultery etc. He provides a balanced perspective that doesn't pull punches - he truly calls a spade a spade.
His use of contemporary jargon and slang to heighten the sense of obscenity in ungodly actions is excellent - and makes for a memorable and entertaining read.
Wilson uses solid exegesis that doesn't bend or twist the text. He hits the nail on the head every time.
Please buy this book and when you're done reading it, pass it around.

I enjoyed this book because he gets to the heart of the issue surrounding our struggle with lust. I am so used to church talks and lust conquering books that offer a somewhat self-reliant approach. "Struggling with pornography? Get rid of your computer." Well, you may not have a computer, but lust is still festering inside you and as all of us know, you are still going to struggle. Douglas goes beyond the typical approach and convicts the sin. He plainly shows you how ugly lust is and what it does. Then the Holy Spirit steps in and does the necessary work to change the ROOT of the problem.
Instead of offering a bunch of cute ideas on how to boundary your life, he just attacks the sin. From there, if we are honest with our selves, we know what needs to be done. It seems that nothing is better for dealing with sin than good'old conviction.
