Probably their best collaboration yet, Saturn's Race matches the pacing and unpredictability of Ken MacLeod's The Stone Canal while evoking the anything's-possible, shiny sleaziness of a Snow Crash near future.
Our protagonist--the boy-cum-grandfather--works on Xanadu, an OTEC-powered island-city floating just off Sri Lanka, part of a supranational corporate superelite. He's teamed up in a love triangle balanced by the girl who's mind he wiped and his ex-wife, a feisty security officer straight out of Stone Age Java. The population-control plot succeeds ("We can fight their grandchildren for air and water in thirty years, or we can reduce their numbers now"), but who knows what the puppet master behind Xanadu's all-powerful Council is really up to? --Paul Hughes

Don't waste any time reading this one. It started out OK and then fell apart in the middle. It is not worth my time to write more than this.
Not Niven as I know him.......2006-10-02
Okay, I'll admit up front that perhaps I should not write a review of this book, because I never finished it. I got as far as Page 73 and simply could not stand it any more. Stopping in the middle of any book is rare for me, but the boredome was unbearable. In fact, I only got that far because I am a great fan of Niven, which gave me hope. His "Mote in God's Eye" with Pournelle may be my all-time favorite novel. Maybe it's just because he has a different writing partner in this book, or maybe it was just an off time for him. But the spark is not there. The plot and character development were slow, tedious, and completely unrewarding. A painful read, at least the first 73 pages.
Boring.......2005-10-16
This seems to have been written for money only, i.e. without inspiration. The characters stay flat. The story is boring. The technology described sounds like it could have turned into something interesting, but even that stays flat. The big conspiracy introduced is only marginally interesting. The computer-science is bogus, like in bad cyberpunk.
My advice: Spend your money and more important time on something else.
Not For Niven Fans.......2005-01-09
Perhaps this is a decent cyber-punk SF novel. I wouldn't know because these reviews mark the first time I've ever heard the term cyber-punk. But I do know that as a long-time Larry Niven fan, this is the worst book by him that I've ever read.
Gripping.......2004-11-23
This is some of the best fiction I have read from Niven and Barnes. It is a long novel, but went by so quickly.

If you're studying A Course in Miracles, buy this book, and its companion volume. The two of them will give you left and right hand borders for the Path of ACIM. Robert Perry's Practice Instruction is very helpful, and Allen Watson Lesson Commentaries are full of insight. Both of these men are true scholars of the Course, and can be trusted to help its Author bring out the most for you. As I've said in other reviews, I'm in no way connected to The Circle of Atonement, but my experience with Circle Publishing's books has been overwhelmingly positive. They're well written, and easily understood. And it doesn't hurt that their aesthetically pleasing, both to the eye and to the hand. As a final note, be aware that their website is a fine resource.

A Workbook Companion, Vol. II, and, of course, Vol I, are my companions as I go though the Workbook for Students. I find that what Allen and Robert have written for each day's lesson helps me so much in my daily meditation and hourly reminders. They often give me a way at looking at the lesson that I didn't think of myself. I always study the lesson first, read from A Workbook Companion, then I do the morning meditation. It has been a literal godsend for me.

This, and its companion Volume I, are the best two sources through which to practice the daily lessons in the COURSE IN MIRACLE Workbook. Equal parts inspiration, clarification and motivation, it is a manual for living life.

When I began studying the Course (and for several years, actually) I found all of Robert Perry's work helpful, interesting, and thought provoking. I find his work to have more substance to it than Tara Singh's while being easier to read than Kenneth Wapnick and more in depth than Marianne Williamson. I recommend him highly. As always, his work is a compliment to the Course itself, not a substitute. This particular book gives some very good definitions of terms the Course uses differently than the way we "normally" define them. Can help clear up quite a bit of confusion.

Many students and would-be students of A Course in Miracles have found the Course's Christian context and emphasis on Jesus problematic, regardless of their own religious background. These problems have interfered with many students' study and understanding of the Course. In response to these difficulties, Forgiveness and Jesus addresses the misunderstandings of traditional Christianity, separating these out from the teachings of the Course, and emphasizes the importance of correcting these errors in the context of the two-thousand-year-old tradition.
Forgiveness and Jesus first discusses in depth the principles of A Course in Miracles, specifically focusing on the dynamics of the ego and the meaning of forgiveness. The book next presents the teachings of Christianity in the light of the principles of the Course, highlighting the similarities and differences. Throughout the book, special attention is given to the application of the Course's principles to important areas in our lives such as injustice, anger, sickness, sexuality, and money. If you want to grow, read this book..........2005-10-12
I was hesitant to read a book based on A Course in Miracles (ACIM) because it is hard to improve upon perfection. As it turns out, I couldn't put "Everyday Miracles" down. Loretta has a wonderful way of simplifying and capturing important points of ACIM without watering them down. Reading these themes, presented in a new way, is very valuable and I felt the truth of this book sinking in while reading it. I was so absorbed I literally read through it in a weekend.
Going to the source (ACIM) also is recommended but ACIM can take months to read and takes a serious commitment. "Everyday Miracles" is certainly a good option to familiarize yourself quickly with the concepts of metaphysical living through forgiveness, love and expecting miracles.
For some reason several typos got through the early editions but I am sure later editions have corrected the issue BUT even if there are some typos, do not let these silly surface errors stand in the way. All the best...
