Well-organized, well written, useful book.......2007-06-03
I bought this book on a whim, thinking that as an experienced patent searcher for over 10 years, it wouldn't teach me anything. I WAS WRONG! This book is very well organized and will be useful to the novice as well as the experiences searcher. I actually learned a number of useful techniques and tools and am recommending this book to my colleagues. Finally, a book that has pertinent complex information in one place for easy reference. Mr. Hunt is to be congratulated for his unambiguous writing style and format. Kudos to Amazon for letting me know it was available. Thanks.

If you ain't never been to the ghetto..........2006-09-12
Welcome to the world of Deidra "Juicy" Brown, a welfare recipient from North Philly, who had no bones about how she did it. At 30, Juicy has teenagers who she smokes with, parties with and competes with for the hottest guy in the strip clubs. Although her parenting is less than desirable, Juicy does the best she knows to teach her kids the facts of living a bon-a-fide hood life. Will Juicy drive `em crazy or does she finally tone it down?
KaShamba Williams created an unforgettable character that you love to hate and pray someday somehow will change. Though unfortunate, readers will find that there maybe a Juicy around their way.
Introducing Precious Paine from B-more, she's weighed down by her mom's tragic life. Growing up, Precious was forced to see things deemed inappropriate for young children triggering a harden heart in the process. Precious has mastered a hustle and has made it her business to get what she could, how she wanted, without explaining anything to anyone. Is Precious' hardcore exterior being softened by real love pangs?
Thomas Long, one of the original novelists in Around the Way Girls, has a knack for using incessant female protagonists.
Let's join Lyric Crenshaw and Alicia Woods in New York. Lyric is a hard knock diva whose firsthand accounts taught her that love is for suckers and it's about getting out the winner. Alicia, her sappy co-worker, is all gushy when it comes to her love, Omar. But as the two friends interact more on a daily basis, Lyric's mind begins to believe that maybe love is worth a chance and Alicia becomes cynical, buying into all men being dogs. Can they both be right?
As always La Jill Hunt, another of the original authors and self-appointed dramatists, invites readers to walk on the softer side of the hood with a look at love.
Even though I'm not a real fan of short stories, I really enjoyed the compilation, especially KaShamba's misguided mother and La Jill's twisted love. Again, like the original one, I hate this cover and Urban Books needs to tighten up on their editing.
Stupid.......2006-08-03
This book is so ghetto. I brought this under the premonition that it would be a sequel to Around The Way Girl, by April Hunter, but it sure enough had nothing whatsoever to do with the first book. It was a good ghetto book but the title made me very upset. I wish I could get a refund!!!!!!!!!!
NICE GHETTO GIRL STORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-06-09
GREAT BOOK!!! 3 GOOD STORIES INTO ONE BOOK! MY FAVORITE WAS JUICY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ALSO GOOD BOOKS- THE COLDEST WINTER EVER AND B MORE CAREFUL
Chicks with Issues.......2006-01-19
This was definitaly betta than the first one. Juicy doesn't care what her kids do, what she does around them, or what they do with their life. As long as she gets money, and they don't hate on her game. Precious had it all, until her mother and father got hooked on drugs. Now she's boostn til she can't stop. Lyric has had her heart broken twice. She trusts no man and plays them all the same. Her father and mother are the only two people she feels know true love. She becomes friends with Alicia and that's where her life changes.
Top Rate Authors.......2006-01-18
I don't care what anybody has to say these are three of the best authors around. LaJill never disappoints,Thomas did very well, and Kashamba,Kashamba,Kashamba put not just her foot in this novel but her whole DANG body. Kashamba threw it down with Juicy Brown. Although some of Juicy's parenting ways I did not agree with she still was a fo' sho' Around the way girl who would lay down her life for her children. I was feeling Juicy so much that all my reading friends bought copies of this book just to read about Juicy. People in the hood may talk about a person of Juicy's caliber but one can't help but respect her. I hope to see a novel expanding on Juicy as well as LaJill's character's Alicia the scandalous one and Lyric. Trust you won't waste your money on this read.

Two Men and a Selvaur.......2003-01-22
The Long Hunt (1996) is the fifth book written in the Mageworlds series, but is the seventh, and last to date, in internal chronological sequence. It takes place a couple of decades after By Honor Betray'd.
Faral Hyfid-Metada has completed his Long Hunt and must leave Maraghai soon to gain honor, but the elders don't seem to be in any hurry to kick him off-planet. Then his cousin Jens Metada-Jessan decides to go off-world, so Faral and their Selvaur friend, Chaka, go with him. They first head toward the Mageworlds, but are diverted to Khesat, Jens native planet, after an kidnapping attempt on Ophel. Jens and Faral are pursued on Ophel and off-world by members of the Green Sun gang and following behind them are Klea Santreny, an Adept, and Mael Taleion, a Mage, tracking down a disturbance in the eiran. Meanwhile, the Highest of Khesat has been poisoned and the political maneuvering is complex and fierce.
This novel is a coming of age story, in which Jens has his own Long Hunt to pursue on Khesat. It differs greatly from the other Mageworlds novels, with more resemblance to The Three Musketeers in tone and scope, but with enjoyments and charms of its own. Recommended for Mageworlds fans and anyone who enjoys tales of youthful adventure and political intrigue.

Pedestrian and Mediocre.......2002-05-26
What could have been an exciting sequel just sinks into a real mediocre blah. It's so formula it could be pablum. OK as sophomoric english exercise but not as art.
A youthful lark........2002-05-22
Two kids trying to save the galaxy? Right! They did it. With style and Panache. Encore! Encore!
A good read but not as good as the original trilogy.......1999-08-17
I enjoyed reading it. BUT... The biggest problem I had with The Long Hunt was that it seemed too sparse. After the depth and fullness of the original trilogy, I felt cheated that it was so short and shallow in depth. It seemed as if there had been a level of story that had been left out. Unlike the tale of Beka Rosselin-Metadi, in THE LONG HUNT we never really get into Jens' skin; we don't get enough of his character to put ourselves in his place. Instead of acting upon the universe like his parents did, Jens is acted upon, ambling along with the flow. Except for a rather hair-raising hovercar ride, he doesn't really do anything himself nor really appear to be in true danger. I never felt the pitch of excitement while reading THE LONG HUNT that I experienced when I read THE PRICE OF THE STARS, STAR PILOT'S GRAVE, BY HONOR BETRAY'D and THE GATHERING FLAME. While I liked the basic plot and the basic characters in it (particularly some of the background ones), I felt like the story was lacking something... like making bread and leaving out the salt. Still good to eat but not as flavorful. THE LONG HUNT was a pleasant read that lacks the savor of its predecessors.

Excellently written and researched; I recommend it.......1999-11-04
In his book, Belue has carefully researched and written an account of the death of the buffalo east of the Mississippi. In a greater sense, this work examines life on the frontier as well as the history of trade and colonization of the frontier. The author uses personal accounts, journals, and memoirs of the traders, long hunters and trappers who played a role in the settlement of the frontier as a basis for the work. I highly recommend as well as the author's other works on the life of Daniel Boone.
Full of useful information!.......1999-04-29
Chronicling the demise of buffalo that ranged between the Blue Ridge and the Mississippi, this book includes previously unpublished material on flora, fauna, and Woodland and Southeastern Indians. Living historians will find useful information on arms, accoutrements, attire, and frontier skills and lifestyles. --Living History, Spring 1997
"A welcome addition!"--Beth Rengstorf, Bison World.......1999-02-19
Buffalo history enthusiasts will find that Ted Belue's book is written just for them. While there are a number of effective historical, nonfiction books on the American buffalo available, this one has the advantage of focusing attention specifically on the death of the buffalo east of the Mississippi. This noteworthy recounting of buffalo and their gruesome end gives a realistic picture of what occurred. Belue provides readers with enough information to gain both insight and comprehension. By the 1820s, the eastern buffalo herds were gone. The author uses many quotes from early chronicles to illustrate a vivid account of the hardships hunters encountered as well as the plight of the buffalo east of the Mississippi. Belue's careful research is evident and reinforced by the excellent selection of black-and-white photographs and old maps. The glossary, index, and selected annotated bibliography are very helpful to the reader. This book is written on a slightly higher reading level and is very comprehensive. This title will fill a gap in most collections and will appeal particularly to readers of American buffalo history. This book would be a welcome addition to any "buffalo/bison" book shelf.
"Required Material! " John Curry, Smoke and Fire News.......1998-12-23
This excellent piece offers an up close/analytical look at the tale of the buffalo and those men who hunted buffalo in the 18th century "Middle Ground." Names, dates, places, hunts, scouts, etc. unfold in front of your eyes in an understandable and exciting manner via so many new and varied primary documentation sources I don't even want to get into listing them. Long Hunt presents you with a highly accurate perception of the era and its players. Somewhat akin to Arnow's SEEDTIME ON THE CUMBERLAND but much more specifically directed toward the over-mountain eastern frontiersman, I would have to consider this as "required material" for anyone whose persona involves hunting for a living in the 18th century frontier. Do yourself a favor...buy it!
A must read!--Western Writers of America.......1998-12-04
Several good books about the American bison are available in today's marketplace. Among the best are David Dary's The Buffalo Book, and Tom McHugh's The Time of the Buffalo. Now comes Ted Franklin Belue's The Long Hunt to make a threesome of outstanding volumes on this most recognizable of American wildlife. But Belue's book is different. Now, for the first time (that I know of) the eastern variety of the species is chronicled. Drawing upon archaeological evidence and utilizing first-hand accounts of early explorers, pioneers, and settlers along the Eastern seaboard and in the vast trans-Appalachian country, Belue follows the buffalo's saga from its earliest confrontation with American Indians, through the first European impact, and all the way down to the animal's extinction east of the Mississippi River. A valuable part of this book (aside, of course, from the invaluable information about the buffalo itself) is the huge amount of data that Belue imparts to his reader about the long-hunter, the eastern forerunner of the mountain man. Complete with extensive notes, illustrations, appendices, and bibliography, The Long Hunt is a volume to be read and intensely studied by any student of America's first West. One of the finest tributes to this book that I have read came from Dr. Richard Taylor of Kentucky State University, who wrote, "What David Dary has done in his study of buffalo west of the Mississippi, Belue has done for those east of it."--Jim Crutchfield, Western Writers of America, April 1998, Roundup Magazine

Book Description
Fundamentals of Cognitive Psychology by R. Reed Hunt and Henry C. Ellis is a brief core text with a value conscious price tag for courses in Cognition and Cognitive Psychology. The text presents detailed coverage of memory and emotion in a friendly and accessible style. By providing a discussion of selected experiments rather than an exhaustive survey of the empirical literature, Hunt and Ellis enable students to appreciate the intricacies of problem solving activity in cognitive psychology. The text uses a thematic approach throughout, and incorporates real world examples, case studies, and useful examples of experiments on specific topics.
The sixth edition of Fundamentals of Cognitive Psychology has been thoroughly updated and includes new information in many areas including cognitive neuroscience, the foundations of cognitive psychology, and problem solving and reasoning. An updated design and art program enhance the appeal of this already very accessible text.

Don't buy this book!.......2006-06-07
this book is the most boring text i've ever seen. readers would be discouraged by the ways these authors organize the subjects.
explanations of theories and ideas are overflowed..kept me and my colleagues confusing.
there are always some better books better than this one.
Fundamentals of Cognitive Psychology.......2005-09-04
This book was helpful when I was completing my research paper on cognitive psychology. My class has not started, however, the book was very informative. The book is not easy to read however, it a text book for psychology majors.
Informative and helpful.......1999-09-23
As an undergraduate TA, I became familiar with this book when my supervising professor chose it for her undergraduate learning and cognition course. The text presents detailed coverage of the topics in an accessible style. I disagree with the previous reviewer about the value of the discussion of previous experiments. By providing a discussion of selected experiments rather than an exhaustive survey of the empirical literature, the intricacies of problem solving activity in cognitive psychology are highlighted. The text uses a thematic approach throughout, and incorporates real world examples, case studies, and useful examples of experiments on specific topics. I found myself wishing that this text had been used in the cognition course that I had previously taken.
Why Not To Read Fundamentals of Cognitive Psychology.......1999-03-13
At this point in time I am reading "Fundamentals of Cognitive Psychology" for a class that I am currently attending. My class is wonderful, but this book is very dry. I understand that the subject of cognitive psychology involves a lot of research and data and all this information is important to the study of this subject, but this book is very dry and personally boring. The whole book is a review of past research and analyzations of the subject and the author gives no thought of his own to the subject. If I wanted to know every little detail of every cognitive experiment I would look that exact experiment up. There is no basis of the book and it does not help me in the least little bit in my studies. The content is very dry and not attention holding. I would definately look into something else as far as books go if I wanted something interesting!!!

Poems by Inez Hunt Beville
Book Description
This book identifies the universal structures that underlie the varieties of transformative experiences, much as William James did a century ago in The Varieties of Religious Experience. Featuring dozens of illustrations, this book, now a "One Spirit" Book-of-the-Month-Club selection, is a brilliant cross-cultural examination of the power of archetypal metaphors to nurture profound experiences of transformation.
Customer Reviews:
Like Josesph Cambell, but a bit clearer.......2006-08-01
This book is similar in content to Campbell's "The Hero with a Thousand Faces" (The title itself doesn't make much sense -- should be "The Thousand Faces of the Hero", shouldn't it?), except that you feel like the author isn't always stumbling over his vast knowledge, as with Campbell. This work is full of pellucid insights.
Metaphors describing dissociative-state experiencing.......2005-10-29
This book is an organized inventory of the various metaphors that have been used to describe the phenomena encountered in the mystic dissociative state. Dissociative psychoactives are mentioned in an integrated manner throughout the book.
This is a revised edition of Opening to Inner Light: The Transformation of Human Nature and Consciousness. Benny Shanon's book Antipodes of the Mind is a good companion volume similarly explaining dissociative-state cognitive phenomenology as the origin of mythic metaphor.
wisdom and guidance for the inner path.......1999-09-06
I loved this book, and intend to re-read it. It is valuable for people first starting out on their transformative journey, but also contains enough information to interest those who've been on the path a while. The title of the introduction is "From Caterpillar to Butterfly," and that states the theme of the book--how we transform. The phases we move through during transformation follow a general sequence, although this is not a linear, predictable process. The author has arranged the chapters to reflect the general ordering of the stages of growth; thus one can see that there really is a pattern to what may seem at times random and pointless. This is helpful because the transformation process can be difficult, even scary at times--this book provides much wisdom and information for understanding and moving through both the good and the difficult times. It has an extensive bibliography and notes which provide good suggestions for further learning. This book is written from the perspective of transpersonal psychology and there is much in here about consciousness and how it develops. Although the author obviously has very high standards for scholarship and intellectual inquiry, the book is enjoyable and entertaining to read. I highly recommend it.
Product Description
What a great interpretation! Faustin Bray converses with Ralph Metzner and he weaves a fascinating historical matrix. Discussing his book, the Unfolding Self, Dr. Metzner goes beyond his roots in transpersonal psychology to uncover universal structures of spiritual transformation.
