"IT'S STILL TRUE."
That's the first thing James Tillerman says to his sister Dicey every morning. It's still true that their mother has abandoned the four Tillerman children somewhere in the middle of Connecticut. It's still true they have to find their way, somehow, to Great-aunt Cilla's house in Bridgeport, which may be their only hope of staying together as a family.
But when they get to Bridgeport, they learn that Great-aunt Cilla has died, and the home they find with her daughter, Eunice, isn't the permanent haven they've been searching for. So their journey continues to its unexpected conclusion -- and some surprising discoveries about their history, and their future.

Customer Reviews:
Great for voyager fans.......2007-08-30
First of all I'd like to say that my main reason for reading this book was to fill the hollow void in my life when Star trek voyager the television program had ended. This book did just that as it picked up right where endgame ended. I will say that the main plot was a little unbelievable as it involved a borg virus slowly assimilating the earth and an extremely corrupt individual at the heart of starfleet itself. I can say that this book continues the stories of all the voyager characters we've come to know and love (minus Neelix and Kes). My only problem with this book would be the ending as it basically offers no conclusion. So if you think you'd enjoy this book you might as well buy it's sequel ,The Farther Shore, now. Also if you do read the sequel you will be left with much more of a conclusion than you were with Homecoming, but there are still 2 more books (Spirit Walk, Book One: Old Wounds and Spirit Walk, Book Two: Enemy of My Enemy). All in all I think this is a great book for voyager fans who want to continue the voyager adventures.
Disappointed..........2007-07-15
This woman had a marvelous oppertunity because the storyline was left so open and it read like a personal fanfic. You could tell where she desperately had to fill in what she didn't know with elements she probably collected from her personal life. I read half way through to give it a chance and I threw it down.
Character spoke out of character from time to time. She rushed in a chance to clean up loose threads in all the characters I feel are attempts to try to satisfy all the needs of the fans because the show ended so abruptly. Somethings are best left untold that's part of a good story. And she kept going back to Torres and that baby. I felt like I was reading the authors personal attachment to this character because she's a mother or something.
Nice Return!.......2007-03-24
I enjoyed reading this and was a nice way to return to the ST Voyager universe!good story and enjoyed finding out more about the many characters I came to enjoy on Voyager!
STAR TREK VOYAGER HOMECOMING.......2007-01-20
I really enjoyed this book! The characters were true to form and the plots held my interest all the way through. This is much better than most Trek novels! If you want to know what happened to Janeway and her crew right after they got home, then you need to start here. I plan to read the others in this series as well.
Well written.
Welcome to the Starship Paranoia.......2006-10-10
The most difficult aspect of this duology is separating personal expectations from what actually happens in the book. Whether or not you'll enjoy reading it really depends on whether or not you agree with the direction and attitude that is taken. More specifically, whether you agree with the despicable actions directed against some members of Voyager's crew in the latter half of the book. In the enlightened universe that Gene Roddenberry created, it's always dissapointing to see people's actions ruled by fear and paranoia. The excuse offered is that the Dominion War only recently ended, and the Federation is not the place it once was.
I did enjoy the first half of the book. It was good to revisit these characters. Especially interesting is seeing how Janeway goes from being the Captain we all knew on Voyager, to the Admiral we eventually see in Star Trek: Nemesis. We see Seven of Nine getting to know her new family. And Harry Kim reacquaints himself with an old flame...with a twist. What else did you expect with Harry Kim?
What stops me from giving this book an extra star, is that I totally disagree with the approach taken towards Voyager's return. I believe that the Federation would be absolutely rapturous at their voyage home. After years of war, Voyager's homecoming would be the perfect morale booster. A way of reminding the Federation that there's more to life than just war and conflict.
Fortunately, Marco Palmieri and co. offer an explanation for the actions in homecoming in later novels 'Articles of the Federation' and the 'A Time To...' maxi series. It does put these events into a much better context. Unfortunately, these retcons came far too late.

Book Description
An agnostic, on discussing the subject of religion with the author, told her: 'If you Christians want to make us agnostics inclined to look into your religion, you must be more comfortable in the possession of it yourselves. The Christians I meet seem to me to be the very most uncomfortable people anywhere around. I for one do not care to have that sort of religion.' As a result, The God of All Comfort was written. Far from the abundant life promised by Christ, most Christians live in defeat and despair. The object of this book is to reveal the secret of this abundant life and victory over defeat; to bring genuine and enduring joy into the lives of troubled Christians; to show that everything Christ promised is available today to all believers; to put within reach of every Christian that deep and lasting peace and comfort of soul that nothing earthly can disturb. Both God's part and man's part are explained. Colorful illustrations and anecdotes and picturesque language illuminate every page, clarifying the vital message of this book.

Hannah Whitall Smith.......2007-08-01
Another WOW, just the depth and richness of her writing, and understanding of God, His words, and His LOVE will encourage, and enlighten you, you will be amazed at the simpleness, as well as the profoundness of her words, and more impressive, as it was written in the middle 1800's, and addresses anything that is relevant today.
The Christian's Secret of a Happy Life ( Complete and Unabridged)
The God of All Comfort is still our Comfort today.......2007-01-08
I have been teaching this book for nearly a year to my ladies Bible class on Wednesday nights. The class consists of 25 women, who, in varying ways, need to be comforted. Even though this book was written in 1906, and these women range in age from 20 to 60, it is the best book I have found to address each of their needs. This book has taught me that God can and does meet all our needs and even though each of our needs are very different, His way of meeting them, individually, is very similar. Hannah Whitall Smith has a way of simplifying and explaining how God can and will comfort us. Chapter eight, The Lord our Dwelling Place, has been particularly helpful to those of us who have had wayward children. She has a way of convicting us that God is there and He really is Our Father. Even though I thought discussing 17 chapters would be long and redundant, the class has proven to be one of the best I have ever led and the women have recommended it to more people than any class I have ever taught. I highly recommend it.
Knowing God the way He really is..........2006-11-21
I have read many other books and references written about the Christian faith, but the book that has probably inspired me the most is this beautiful, spirit building book written by Hannah Whitall Smith decades ago. Her desire to convey the true personality of God in "The God of All Comfort" is done with much passion and factuality. Unfortunately, the many quotes of biblical scripture are not referenced, but with a good King James concordance (Strong's, Cruden's) you can find the proper chapter and verse. Overall, this wonderfully written book is clearly one of the best ever produced on this subject, and sooner or later it will be out of print. I encourage everyone interested to buy a copy now before that happens. A really GREAT book!!
Right next to my Bible.......2004-10-21
Hannah Whitall Smith's small book, "The God of All Comfort", is the little book I keep close by. It is the book I go to time after time, especially in times of sorrow, trouble, or fear. I have underlined and re-underlined passages. I have dated in the margins times when phrases have applied. This is the book I give to friends when they are going through deep waters. I highly recommend it.

The Comforter Came.......2007-03-21
Two weeks ago, my precious mother-in-law passed away after a long battle with cancer. As I was cleaning out her things, I discovered her journal in which she had written down each day's pulse, BP, heart rate, nausea, hair loss, etc. Right next to the journal, listing all the terrible things happening to her body, was Judy Gann's book with page after page marked with all the wonderful things God was doing in her soul. Everyday of her suffering was met with a day of God's comfort through one of these touching devotionals. Now I get to read through these devotionals, sharing the same hope - the same comfort - my mother-in-law did in her last days. Our God is indeed the God of all comfort, who comforts us in our troubles so we can comfort others when we ourselves have been comforted.
Encouragement for the long term.......2006-07-25
Judy's book is tender and empathetic. I've long felt that friends and family are great in a short-term crisis. But those who struggle with chronic illness (and she includes a wide variety of kinds in the book) often see their support fade away over time. It's a lonely road. Judy understands the experience, and offers bite-size wisdom for weary hearts, minds, and bodies battling trials that have no immediate end in sight.
This book is THE ideal gift for a friend or family member with ongoing health issues, or for someone newly diagnosed with a chronic illness.
Gentle, encouraging.......2005-11-26
Out of the estimated 3,000 promises in the Bible, Judy Gann has focused on those with special meaning for people who constantly battle illness. She writes with authenticity and compassion about those promises, since she's spent much of her life with chronic illness. The book has a gentle, encouraging spirit. Buy it as an encouragement gift for someone who faces daily, debilitating illness. They'll bless you for visible evidence that you care.
A Must-Read for Those Who Suffer.......2005-06-08
Based on the author's experience of living with an often debilitating chronic illness, The God of All Comfort is a cup of cold water and an arm around the shoulder for anyone who faces similar daily challenges. This collection of stories from Ms. Gann and seventeen others in similar straits is grouped into an attractive devotional format. Each devotion offers a two-page story, applicable Scripture, and an inspirational quote. It's just the right length for encouraging and uplifting those who suffer and those who strive to understand friends and loved ones who live under the shadow of an ongoing illness.
Ms. Gann groups the devotions into eight categories:
By God's Design
Strength for the Journey
The Furnace of Affliction
Through Deep Waters
Courage in the Darkness
Springs in the Desert
Rest for the Weary
Eyes Toward Heaven
Because a chronic illness often makes a person feel as though their identity is linked only to their illness, the author has taken great care to create a book that both soothes and strengthens. Those who may feel that nobody understands their struggles will find compassion, understanding, and hope. Above all, The God of All Comfort points readers to a heavenly Father who is present 24/7 to comfort and help sufferers to cope day by day, minute by minute.
A book of comfort and hope.......2005-06-07
God of all Comfort is a wonderful devotional book for the millions of men and women who suffer from chronic illness. More than that, this is a book to be read by anyone who cares about hurting people. When someone suffers from a chronic illness there's often no visible evidence. Yes, Judy Gann has woven together stories, scriptures, and prayers into a lovely resource for those who suffer, but pastors, counselors, family, and friends also need to read this book so for an insider's look at the needs of those with chronic illness.

Book Description
Little Joey experiences grief for the first time in his life. The death of his beloved dog and conflicts with his best friend have opened painful questions about what is behind the emptiness we all feel at times in our lives. He seeks solace in the arms of his wise grandmother, where to little Joey and to all of us, Grandma reveals the God-shaped hole and what we can do to begin filling it. Joey begins to work through his grief and continues to struggle with his friendship.
But then, even Grandma's faith is challenged as everybody faces loss with the tragedy of September 11th. The depth of her spirituality is revealed as she gently guides Joey in ways to find answers to life's most challenging questions - especially in the face of unspeakable grief and conflict. Their dialogue about the core source of human suffering and how to overcome it brings profound and simple truths to young and old readers alike. Grandma's message is simple: Take courage - look into the emptiness to find the light. There is no tragedy so great, no shame so deep, and no pain so overwhelming but that the power of the human spirit can break through to the light.
We all know that certain emptiness inside. Sometimes, it can be haunting and familiar. Other times, it can be overwhelming. At a time when the emptiness inside will not go away . . . and mere beliefs are not enough, a simple story can answer life's deepest questions
A story of September 11th . . . a message for all time.

A Must For These Times.............2005-09-24
I highly recommend this book! Especially now.........
A lot has been happening lately.... a lot of tragedy in the past 4 years! Take Sept 11th, the war, the recent Tsunami, then all the Hurricanes. Surely a void has been plaguing our hearts waiting to be answered. This book, "The God-Shaped Hole" is like a comfort balm in the place that chills the heart pained with questions and uncertainty. Instead of feeling victimized, we find an uplifting voice soothing our spirits and honoring those we've lost. This book is great for those who have lost someone recently, for children needing to understand death, for people who fear what lies beyond the veil of life when they die, for why these bad things have to happen, and for those in the professional practice of grief, 'death & dying' and spiritual growth. I've met some amazing people recently who rode through and survived hurricane Katrina....Grandma ( a character in Angell's book) is that great soul who takes the pain life bears with a kind of spiritual dignity much like these amazing souls who lost everything but themselves and select loved ones. She (Grandma)is strong and reveals the mystery we all need to hear through her grandson Joey's eyes.
Very warm and comforting........2002-11-07
A book about finding answers to the meaning and purpose of life. Very enlightening. For those of us who seek authenticity and truth, along with hope and comfort.
It most definatly helps to fill my God Shaped Hole.......2002-09-07
A great book. It helped to find that spiritual center within me. It does a great job of takeing me back to my earliest thoughts as a child and helps me understand how to understand and handle loss and grief throughout a life time. It helped me understand and recognize the spirit of God within me. I highly recommend it to be read to children and by children as well as adults. It will help them to be able to cope with loss in thier lives.
It is a wonderful book !
Book Description
In the introduction to her book, Hannah Whitall Smith gave her reason for writing this book: "I was once talking on the subject of religion with an intelligent agnostic, whom I very much wished to influence, and after listening to me politely for a little while, he said, 'Well, madam, all I have to say is this. If you Christians want to make us agnostics inclined to look into your religion, you must try to be more comfortable in the possession of it yourselves. The Christians I meet seem to me to be the very most uncomfortable people anywhere. They seem to carry their religion as a man carries a headache. He does not want to get rid of his head, but at the same time it is very uncomfortable to have it. And I for one do not care to have that sort of religion.' This was a lesson I have never forgotten, and it is the primary cause of my writing this book. I want to show the grounds there are in the in the religion of the Lord Jesus Christ for that deep and lasting peace and comfort of soul, which nothing earthly can disturb, and which is declared to be the portion of those who embrace it."
Customer Reviews:
A wonderful classic.......2006-04-15
A wonderful classic first published in the late 19th century, God of All Comfort is as fresh and new as today's news - fresher, some of today's news is pretty rotten. Wife, mother, and noted Bible teacher and speaker Hannah Whitall Smith answers these very modern queries: has Jesus been overrated, or has He been under-trusted? When He says, "Whoever listens to me shall dwell safely," (Prov. 1:33) is it for real?
She answers these questions amply and satisfyingly, with a resounding yes. Why? Because it is so written and God does not lie. Scripture's statements are incontrovertible fact. We do not need to rely upon our own feelings. Basing all her teachings solidly in Scripture, Smith looks at these questions from many sides. Our Lord is our Shepherd and in Him is all comfort. Don't get trapped into thinking you have to deserve His care, rather, study the meanings of the names of God found in Scripture. Don't examine yourself to the point of leaving the Lord out of it. Because He holds you, you can be unshaken, encouraged, shouting with faith, giving the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and conformed to His image. Definitely, God of All Comfort does not attempt to domesticate God, rather it is the opposite - to help us see how we need to be tamed by God in order to receive His full benefits.
If you have never read any of Hannah Whitall Smith's books, or do not know much about her, perhaps you would enjoy reading first the biography which concludes God of All Comfort. The peace, joy, and comfort which form the theme of this book were hard come by for Hannah; but once she discovered these truths, her life changed and she went on to become a loving, forthright minister of God's word.
Let me share a blessing with you. This last batch of review books I received contained two classics: God of All Comfort, and God's Passion for His Glory, which contains an introduction from contemporary author John Piper and 18th century Bible teacher Jonathan Edwards' thesis, 'The end for which God created the Earth.' It is wonderful to make contact via their ageless books, with two of that great cloud of witnesses spoken of in Hebrews. The ideas they propound are as real and true today as they were when first written. God's Word does not change, nor do the needs of God's people or their work for Him. - Donna Eggett, Christian Book Previews.com

Book Description
You are on the threshold of a shining new understanding. Sometimes uncertainty clouds our relationship to what we know to be the truth. In our hearts we fully recognize the power of God's love for us, but daily life and strife often make us wonder how such love can exist in such a difficult world. Hannah Whitall Smith shares with you her wisdom and understanding of the great rewards awaiting those who accept God's love. This precious volume illuminates the true meaning and message of God, particularly in this age of so much doubt and fear.
