Abby had the flu, they were picking science fair partners. Casey, her partner was sick also. They couldn't decide what project to do. SO they took a vote on it. You should read this book because there was a problem, so you need to read to find it and you can figure it out. The thing I like most about this book was when they did the project. The thing I liked the least was when the problem happen. I like this activy because it helps me learn to type.

5 out of 5 stars This is a fun book!.......2002-12-08

I read this book with my children (6 and 4 years old) over the course of several bedtimes, and they really enjoyed it. "Alien Clones From Outer Space" is entertaining and funny, and it was an enjoyable book to read. Highly recommended.

It used to be difficult to entice my third grade son to read - until now. I am grateful to H. B. Homzie for creating a series that my son found interesting enough to read instead of watching t.v. or playing Gameboy. I actually had to pull it out of his hands because it was past his bed time and he did not want to put this book down! WOW! My son was totally engrossed and was laughing out loud. Of course, I was curious, so I read it after he was asleep... and I was impressed that I enjoyed it, too! Move over J.K. Rowling -- H.B. Homzie has created a great series that appeals to reluctant readers without being scary! She demonstrates a great ability to relate to this age and my son confirmed it by asking when he could get the next book in the series! Thank you, H.B. I would definitely recommend this for everyone's home library.

I'm a high school student and just LOVE this book. I enjoy reading Captain Underpants and things like that, so I picked this up and laughed the whole way through! I passed it on to my two little sisters (who also loved it) and they actually handed it off to my mom, who got quite a kick out of it. This book is a great read for kids and amusing for everyone!

5 out of 5 stars Kids Won't Be Able to Get Enough of the Alien Clones series.......2002-10-08

I read my son Two Heads Are Better Than One and he loved it! In fact, we are now reading it for the third time. It is so funny that I'm enjoying it as much as he is. Our favorite character is Beta, the alien. My son is going around saying Zaptopkaka! Otto is a fun character, too. A good old-fashioned villain. I can't wait to go out and buy the next book in this series.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Days.......2006-06-30

I think the book "Two Heads are Better Than One" is a great story! It's about a girl named Abby who is sick for a week and misses school. While she is sick, the two fifth-grade classes find science fair partners. When she gets back to school, everybody has a science partner except her. Then a new kid named Casey comes and doesn't have a science partner. The teacher assigns Abby and Casey as science partners. Abby thinks that Casey is mean. Read this story to find out about the rest of their very exciting adventure!

4 out of 5 stars Anson Y.'s book review. HK. < I have Hayes fever! >.......2005-07-24

Abby was having a flu when the whole Fifth-Grade was picking partners for the Science Fair. It was bad enough when she went to school with a bad cough and a bad haircut. But she found that her Science Fair partner was.....A BOY! Casey, Abby's Science Fair partner, always made jokes out of Abby's last name. He called Abby 'Hayes' and when he saw her, he said,'I have Hayes fever. Ha-ha-haaa. Get it ?'
Abby and Casey spent hours and hours arguing about what they should do for their science fair project. Then at last, they had made a decision, project on rocks. They had to collect it, sort it, label it.....
But one day, when Abby was going home with their rock project. She met her best friend and HER Science Fair partner, Sarah and Jessica. They were playing soccer. They asked Abby if She would play, so Abby put the rock collection under a tree. But......... she forgot to bring the rocks home! That was when Abby found out that she had lost all their hard work!
Abby organized a search party and everything. But still, no rock collection appeared. She thought of many excuses to Casey.

Excuses to Casey:
a)The rocks went on strike.
b)A UFO took them to their leader.
c)The rocks entered a time warp and were now in the Jurassic Era.
And so on...............
I think this is a very good book. But I give this book a 4 star because of the part where Abby got sad when She found that her partner was a boy. What's the matter with boys? I've got one or two friends which are boys.So what's the big deal?

2 out of 5 stars What's wrong with boys?.......2005-05-23

As you may have noticed, in this book Abby pretty much refuses to be friends with casey. Why? He's a boy. It's okay to be friends with a boy, I have plenty of boy friends. What is wrong with that? Nothing...

5 out of 5 stars TWO HEADS ARE MUCH BETTER THAN ONE!.......2004-04-09

In this book, which was one of my favorite in the series, Abby is sick with the flu for a while and has to miss school. When she was absent, the two fifth grade classes got partners for the science fair and when Abby comes back, she finds out that she is partners with the most ignorant, annoying, mean, rude, boy she has ever met! And on top of that, she has given herself a bad haircut and she is sure everyone at school will make fun of it. And if things couldn't get worse, once Casey (Abby's partner) and Abby decided on a topic for their project, Abby does something horrible! You'll have to see what she did by reading the book, so go out and get a copy today!

The book, Two Heads are Better than One, is about a 5th grader named Abby Hayes. She got really sick, so she had to miss school for a few days. During those few days, her class started to work and talk about a science fair project. Abby's friend, Jessica, calls Abby that day to tell her all about it. She also explains to Abby that the teacher would be choosing all the science partners. Being so sick, Abby isn't excited about a science project at all, since it just meant even more work to catch up on. To make matters worse, Abby just had a horrible haircut. Not only will she have to face a science project, but she will also have to face her whole class with her embarassing hairdo. On the day Abby is well enough to go back to school, she found out who her science partner was- a new boy. Abby felt even more horrible than ever. Her partner is Casey Hoffman. Abby and Casey disagree on everything. First, they have an argument on what their science fair topic should be. Then, they have a quarrel on what to do and how to conduct the experiment. Finally, they got along together, until one day...It was bright afternoon, and Abby was resbonsible for taking care of their experiment. However, making a silly decision, Abby decides to leave it under a tree while she played soccer Jessica. When Abby left, she had forgotten all about the experiment. No matter how hard she looked, it seemed impossible to find. The next school day, Abby explained the whole story to Casey. To her surprise, Casey wasn't that mad. Because there was nothing Abby or Casey could do about the lost experiment, they soon agreed on a new topic- to show how igneous rocks are made. For one of the first times ever, Abby and Casey agreed! Pretty soon, Abby learns to like Casey as a good friend, and that was when she found out that two heads are better than one.

This book was pretty interesting. In some parts of the book, I thought what Abby's opinion of what she thought about Casey was hilarious. "An overdose! I have a bad case of too much Casey!" This is what Abby qouted in the book. Abby's parents met Casey, and thought he would make good company. Therefore, Abby had to spend her time with Casey too. They faced each other for almost the whole day, and Abby claimed that she had too much 'Casey'!

Abby was very creative in making excuses to how she should explain why she lost the experiment. Here are some below:
"The rocks[experiment] went on strike."
"A UFO took them to their leader."
"The Rocks entered a time warp and are now in the Jurassic Era."
"A wizard neede them for his experiments and I couldn't say no."
When I read it, I thought Abby was cunning, creative, and unreasonable. My favorite excuse was the first one- "The rocks went on strike". Even though it didn't make much sense, it was one of the most reasonable excuses. I would be extremely surprised if Abby told Casey that a UFO took it, and he actually believed her. The rest of Abbey's excuses were plain unreasonable and silly.

My favorite part of the book was when Abby brainstormed funny ideas about what she would do to avoid telling Casey about what happened to their experiment. As written above, those are some of Abby's excuses. Three other ways Abby thought of for avoiding to tell Casey what happened was to leave town for a couple years, blame a dog for the lost experiment, or to prtened an experiment never exsisted. Even though Abby's ideas were almost impossible to carry out, they were hilarious.

      Book Description

Presenting a new volume of poetry from the pen of Thomas William. His previous volume, Poems on Alaska and Other Planets, was very well received both here and abroad, and this new volume, Chant of the Gemini, will certainly further and enhance his growing reputation as an important American poet.

Dr. William is versatile and finds inspiration in the nooks and crannies of life, his own and others. He certainly shoots a straight, direct arrow into the heart of his poetic matter, a matter of direct truth overcoming extraneous verbosity. He is a poet more concerned with the vegetables of daily living, the potatoes and peas of life, than with its exotic orchards. Read, and you will surely enjoy.

                  Book Description

Let the ancient power of milagros work miracles for you! Based on traditional Latin American talismans, these tiny silver charms are reminders that a miracle can fit in the palm of your hand. Throughout Latin America and the American Southwest, milagros are offered at shrines and sacred sites by believers as requests for divine assistance, or as thanks for blessings received. Modern day milagros may be carried in a pocket to protect from illness or harm, kept in the office to insure success, or placed in the car to avoid accidents--whenever you need a little magic in your life.

Milagros: A Book of Miracles is a wonderful introduction to this ancient tradition. Filled with beautiful milagro-inspired imagery, thoughtful meditations and reflections to enhance your daily life, and inspiring true stories of real people who have been touched by the magic of these ancient charms, this book proves that miracle do happen!

                  IF YOU BELIEVE ...

A young newlywed pins a milagro to a statue of St. Francis after her husband suffers a near-fatal accident. After his miraculous full recovery, she returns every year to give thanks. A heartbroken man carries a heart-shaped milagro in his pocket after losing the love of his life-shortly after, they are reunited. A surgery patient fastens a milagro above his heart and is restored to better health than his doctors ever anticipated.

Milagros--Spanish for miracles--come in an endless variety of shapes and sizes. Since before recorded history, these offerings to the gods have been an essential part of Latin American culture. More than just symbolic gifts, milagros are thought to be magical: if you believe and make your desire known with good faith, the milagro may work its wondrous power. This book is an inspiring introduction to the beauty anddivine blessings of these ancient talismans.

4 out of 5 stars Sweet little gift book.......2006-03-19

If you are looking for an (art-)historical study on Milagros, go for the excellent little book by Martha Egan (also available at Amazon.com). The short (6 pages) introduction on the history of Milagros in this book is based on the book by Martha Egan.

This colourful, nicely presented book focuses on the role that (making) milagros could play in your own life (I find it a bit 'New Agey', but not too much). There are five chapters in this book, each divided into three parts (body, mind, spirit). Every chapter covers a part of our body:

                  1. the head ('knowing is wisdom'),
                  2. the heart ('how we love'),
                  3. the hand ('your hands connect you to others'),
                  4. the foot ('your feet support your journey through life'),
                  5. the mouth ('our words are as good as our deeds').

About half of its 95 pages are filled with full page Mexican style artwork. Small photographs of traditional Milagros are scattered throughout the text.

In each chapter the author gives her view on the symbolical meaning a Milagro depicting this specific body part could have: its meaning for our body, for our mind, and for our spirit. She illustrates this with anecdotes from Mexican daily life: the 'mouth' chapter tells how a mother's offering mouth milagros to the Virgin Mary led to a cure of her son's deformed jaw (Yes! It is - after all- a book on miracles).

The book ends with a chapter on how to make your own milagros. Another reviewer already expressed his (or was it her?) anger at the simplicity of the author's suggestions: cutting out a picture from a magazine and laminating it. If you really would like to make your own milagros, you will get enough ideas from the rest of the book. I believe this chapter was added just for those of us who are convinced (rightly so or not), that they have no creative talents whatsoever. So that even those among us who can barely hold a pair of scissors, can make their own little miracle workers.

To sum it all up: there is not very much substance here. But it IS a cheerful, well-meaning little book on how to find hope and comfort in small things, and how to introduce some (home made) miracles into your life. I liked it. It will make a lovely gift for someone who could use some cheering-up, whether this will be a friend, or yourself.

                  3 out of 5 stars not a must have.......2005-11-16

This is a cute little picture book with a very superficial discussion of the actual objects. It has very little useful information, lots of hippie crap about love and symbols. Where do milagros come from? who makes them? what are their histories? how did they become symbols of whatever they are symbols of? what is their significance in Mexico? these are questions this book does not address. Also, the claim that there are instructions for making your own milagros is misleading. All the book tells you to do is get a picture from a magazine or maybe cut a shape out of paper and laminate it. I gave it three stars because if you only want a cute little book with a lot of pictures this one would do.

                  5 out of 5 stars Great Introduction.......2004-07-14

I have been interested in Mexican Folk Art for quite some time and often admired Milagros. They are such beautiful little pieces of art that look as though they are crafted with such care. I have been hesitant to start purchasing or collecting these due to a lack of knowledge on their history and meaning.

Enter this great little book by Helen Thompson entitled "Milagros: A Book of Miracles." What a great resource this is for someone like me who has a genuine interest in these little miracles and is searching for their meaning. In it you get a brief history of Milagros and their continued use. Then you are shown the Milagros that relate to the human body, mind and spirit. This is where we are given some amazing stories that drive home the powerfulness of the Milagros!

This book of miracles ends with a bit on making your own Milagros. As an avid crafter, I found this to be an incredibly interesting section of the book. With just a bit of imagination, you can make some beautiful Milagros of your own.

This was a great introduction for me and now I'm off to further my Milagro education.

2 out of 5 stars Pretty little book, but.............2002-07-21

If you want a little book to place on a table in your guest room, buy this one. But if you want to really learn something about the subject of milagros as votive offerings, buy the book "Milagros: Votive Offerings from the Americas" by Martha Egan. It is very informative with excellent illustrations. It will make you want to be a collector.

3 out of 5 stars Lovely introduction to this tradition.......2001-09-03

If you've wondered about milagros and what they mean, this is a great book to explain the traditions. The illustrations are simple and inspiring if you're working with mixed media and want to head more towards authentic folk art. Finally, if you're a believer, the personal stories of how each type of milagro is used are very touching. This is a short book, filled with ample colorful illustrations, introducing you to milagros. For example, if you've seen little lips as a silver or golden charm and wondered what it meant, this book will explain. To dig deeper into religious and artistic traditions, you'll want a different book, but this is a fine place to start your exploration of these ancient talismans.

                      Book Description

Brian Cavanaugh, popular bestselling author of Paulist Press's Sower's Seeds series, as well as of his own monthly "quoteletter" of inspirational and motivating stories, Apple Seeds, now brings readers a beautiful children's Christmas story, The Miracle of the Poinsettia. What makes this story special is its bilingual presentation, in English and Spanish, on opposite pages.

The Miracle of the Poinsettia is a retelling of a traditional Mexican legend--a small girl has no gift to give the Christ child at the Christmas Eve procession. She gathers up weeds from the roadside and because she give them from her heart, they are miraculously topped with glorious red flowers.

Vividly illustrated in full color, this charming bilingual book will capture the hearts of children, as well as adults who read it to them. It is also a splendid resource for children's and family ministry, ESL programs, and schools with Spanish-speaking children.
