Book Description

It had been a long hard road for Scott Bernard and his ragtag band of Robotech irregulars; but the Invid stronghold known as Reflex Point was finally close at hand, and preparations were under way for a full-scale assault.

But the Invid Regis was not about to surrender so easily the world she had come halfway across the galaxy to claim - especially now that her experiments in racial transmutation were nearing their conclusion.

And no one, Human or lnvid, thought to ask whether Protoculture might have something to say in these matters. But indeed it did; and the final encounter of the Robotech Wars would be more mystifying than anyone had imagined.
And Earth Was The Prize!

between the renegade humans and the Invid is about to start. Will Scott and his team of heros make it to Reflex Point in time to stop the Invid or will the Regis and her children finally bring about their final transformation? Will Earth be in one piece after all of this and what does the Protoculture have to say about it all?

The final book to the Robotech Saga of love, duty and war.
But wait, there are more books out there! Check out the Sentinels! See what happen to the SDF-3's mission!

5 out of 5 stars A classic story of love, war, and death, and cool mechs too!.......1998-05-05

Of the entire series, this one is the best in that it ties together the loose ends ofthe last 20 books (in chronological order), and yet stays true to the show as well. McKinney brings out real character in each of the protagonists and, unlike many books, the antagonists as well. The only thing wrong with it is the lack of closure at the end. This isn't necessarily a bad thing considering he wrote a book after this explaining what happened, but its a typical "riding off into the sunset" type ending. Don't let this keep you from reading this book! I personally have read it 12 times and plan to read it many more. This is (obviously) my favorite book of all time and jack McKinney is my favorite author. I strongly suggest you read this book, even if you know nothing of robotech.

If you have never read Miller, here is where you must start. Here is allegory at her best. Here is the cosmic battle of Lucifer and Michael. Miller is brilliant and dazzeling!! His epitaphs are nuggets of witty gold. Buy this and thank me later.

This CD is a very beautiful and soothing music CD. You can just feel the stress lifting away from you as you listen to it. I have a friend who is going through a crisis and I'm going to purchase her one of these CD's to help her heal through the crisis. Sometimes music can say what our soul wants to say to the person when our words don't quite do the job. I highly recommmend this CD to everyone.

The only good thing I can say is that once you've read one of the sexual encounters (please, let's not call them love scenes)in any of the books in this series, you can skip ahead 20 pages or so and not miss any of the so-called plot. If you crave sensuality, try the Merry Gentry or Antia Blake series.

2 out of 5 stars Unfortunately.......2007-01-06

I'm a fan of the Dark series Ms. Feehan has written. Unfortunately, I'm just going to be blunt and say that this book bored me. It's almost as if she was bored herself writing this book. I got it sometime last year, got through half of it and haven't finished it yet, and I've never done that with a book in my entire life. This is something I would not suggest for anyone to buy.

4 out of 5 stars Not one of the best in the series.......2007-01-03

but still a good read. A good stand alone book because it is really only focuses on the two main leads, not the other's in the series

1 out of 5 stars Ugh, not again, Feehan.......2006-08-05

I hate this - some Dark books take my breath away, and some... well, they just make me want to yack.

As of now, only two have accomplished such a feat; 'Dark Gold' was atrocious, and I had to put it down within five chapters else risking to lose my Beaner's short Teddy Bear.

'Dark Symphony' was the same way, unfortunately. Byron annoyed me in 'Dark Desire' (go Jacques, you sexy beast) and he did nothing for me now. Antoinetta made my back teeth grind.

I don't know, maybe it's because Byron and Aidan are blonde. Then again, so was Julian and I loved his story. But he had Desari, whom I thoroughly enjoyed.

Definitely must be the blonde factor. I like my protagonist men brunette.

5 out of 5 stars thoroughly enjoyed.......2006-07-31

I enjoyed this book in the dark series. there was lots of action and romance. it was hard to put the book down.

              Book Description

The West's foremost translator of the I Ching, Richard Wilhelm thought deeply about how contemporary readers could benefit from this ancient work and its perennially valid insights into change and chance. For him and for his son, Hellmut Wilhelm, the Book of Changes represented not just a mysterious book of oracles or a notable source of the Taoist and Confucian philosophies. In their hands, it emerges, as it did for C. G. Jung, as a vital key to humanity's age-old collective unconscious. Here the observations of the Wilhelms are combined in a volume that will reward specialists and aficionados with its treatment of historical context--and that will serve also as an introduction to the I Ching and the meaning of its famous hexagrams.

When I purchased this book, I knew very little regarding the I Ching, the process and meaning(s) behind it. After reading the book I have learned a great deal of information. It's a book that anyone wanting to understand the I Ching should have in their collection. I also purchased I Ching Workbook by R.L. Wing along with this book which was extremely helpful. I took them both with me on a vacation I went on with my friend and we had a wonderful time with it.

This book is a concise, thorough, and lucid
presentation of the I Ching-its history, structure, and
uses-in a surprisingly small volume. The author gives
a fascinating description of the history of the I Ching's
development, in so doing breaking down the
                   standard Western misconceptions about it-first
among them, its reputation as a fortune-telling device.
He also shows the ways in which the I Ching has
influenced Western thought. Throughout the book,
there is description of the practical uses of the I
Ching-including instructions for casting and reading
it-and an explanation of why the random act of
"throwing the I Ching" is a revelation of the qualities
                   of the present moment.

              Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Theory, history, and instructions.......2000-04-07

First of all, this is not a translation of the I Ching or an interpretation of individual hexagrams, but a book about the I Ching as a whole. It's divided into four parts: an explanation of the theory behind the I Ching, its history, an explanation of divination, and a chapter on chance and chaos theory.

I appreciated the theory part the most. Javary's explanation of yin and yang as movements rather than groups of characteristics was more understandable than the introductory material at the beginning of most translations. The history is the longest part of the book. It's interesting to read, but where it contradicts the generally accepted histories I've read in other books, I don't know whether Javary has hit upon a true theory, or is simply making something up. The divination section is useful, especially in explaining how the titles of the hexagrams should be read as verbs (which does make you see them in a different light). Finally, the chapter on chance and chaos is not bad, but doesn't seem to be tied to the I Ching itself as much as the rest of the book.

It's too bad that in addition to historical claims that may or may not be valid (I just don't know about these), Javary has an annoying habit of describing the Chinese people through blanket statements and stereotypes ("But the Chinese like difficulty." " . . . he acted like all Chinese and invented nothing new." "Meticulously observant, as are all Chinese . . ."). Also, while he says many useful things about divination and how to perform it, he doesn't seem to know that his methods apply to many forms of divination, not just the I Ching. Instead, his attitude seems to be that the I Ching is the only good method of divination, and anything else is cheap fortune-telling.

Basically, a good read if you're willing to think critically about some of his claims.

                    Book Description

Ta Chuan is at the heart of the "I Ching," the world's most profound divination system and the basis of Chinese cosmology. Now, in a lyrical and scrupulously faithful Taoist translation and commentary, Stephen Karcher opens up this revolutionary classic and explores it for the benefit of Western readers, explaining to them how its insightful teachings can be applied to life in the modern world. Much of the Ta Chuan is focused on telling readers how to use the techniques of change. This is the most potent spiritual tool in existence, a way to radically transform awareness, open the heart, and contact the helping spirits. The book teaches readers to free themselves from fear and compulsion, achieve their full potential, become wiser and more able, become more helpful to others, and to fulfil their fates.

3 out of 5 stars The Great Treatise for Coffee Tables.......2003-04-07

The Dazhuan or great treatise is the most important of the commentaries on the I Ching which make up the so-called Ten Wings, attributed to Confucius but written centuries after him. This is a beautiful and poetic text, almost as powerful at the Tao Te Ching.
I had eagerly awaited this publication but found it disappointing. It cannot compare to the two presently existing ones which are in the standard Wilhelm/Baynes edition and in a newer one by Richard Rutt. Not only are these better, they are included with their versions of the I Ching itself.
Karcher's tends to be flat: "If you want to be benevolent, call it benevolence." Karcher's commentary ranges from the trite to the New Age: "You become a Realizing Person, someone who is becoming who they are meant to be." This sounds more like an army recruiting ad than ancient China. (We can overlook the incorrect grammar in which a single subject "who" becomes plural "they" rather than "whom".

The text of the Dazhuan itself is hard to read in this edition because each line centered rather than left-justified, giving an arty appearance. Likely the purpose was to make the rather flat translation seem poetic. The volume is produced by a book packager and is filled with attractive but unrelated stock illustrations.Considering the nearly infinite quantity of gorgeous visual art produced by the Chinese, selection of these bland photographs is inexcusable. Many pages bear the Chinese characters for Dazhuan but in stiff, child-like calligraphy.
Rather than making this a pretentious coffee table book (though for small coffee tables, it would have been better to let the Dazhuan speak for itself.
By all means read the Dazhuan; it is one of the great classics of Chinese philosophy and the basis of how the I Ching was understood in China. But get out your Wilhelm/Baynes or find Rutt's version. Then you might want to read Karcher's for comparison.

5 out of 5 stars Ancient Chinese Wisdom made clear.......2000-12-26

First, consider the wisdom of the following two quotes, taken out of context. (1) "Change is a teacher without peer." (p. 71)(2) "It is an unspoken trust that carries and supports us as we strive for the power and virtue to become who we are meant to be." (p. 110) Those two may give you a sense of the profound wisdom made available in this text. Much of the original text is somewhat hard to understand, at least on a first reading, although Karcher's translation & commentaries are radiant with clarity. The text, in its discussion of the Way (Tao) and Change, explains the spiritual/metaphysical mechanisms underlying the *I Ching*; familiarity with the *I Ching* makes this text much more accessible, although the wisdom of this text may entice some readers to work more closely with the *I Ching*. Karcher (who, with Ritsema, did one of the most brilliant English translations of the *I Ching* ever) is deeply familiar with that work, and thus is able to bring those insights to this work. This is a book one could read again and again over the years, learning more on each reading. As if the merits of the text were not enough to recommend this book on its own, the design of the book (with small photos & Chinese characters in the margins) is stunningly beautiful. This book would be particularly wonderful for the aesthetically sensitive spiritual aspirant.
