Book Description
The sequel to the recently published Blue Bottle Mystery, this is a science fiction novel for children aged 8-13, with a difference. Ben is learning to cope with his newly diagnosed Asperger Syndrome, but when an alien, Spick, crash-lands in his back yard, things really get complicated. Spick knows nothing about Earth's rules and norms, and it is up to Ben and his friend Andy to help him survive.
As well as being a delightful story which young people, particularly those with Asperger Syndrome and their siblings, will enjoy, it is a valuable teaching tool that presents the individuality of children with Asperger Syndrome as valid and interesting.

A Book for Its Intended Audience.......2007-01-12
I didn't much care for the "way out" concept of an alien adventure, but this book wasn't written for me. It was written for an 8-year-old child whose hopes and alien dreams haven't been squashed by the aging process of time and daily drudgery. Everybody doesn't like something, but my son loved meeting his friends Ben and Andy again in Of Mice and Aliens. He is new to his condition, and he is very excited to finally "meet" a character whose thoughts he understands and who would very likely understand my son's thoughts.
Hey, Kathy, how about this: Ben and Andy go on a beach vacation and end up having a pirate adventure next! LOL! Just trying to help you get the ball rolling for your next book; we just finished Lisa and the Lacemaker today, and my son is very impatient for the next installment!
P.S.
Lisa and the Lacemaker is the first book that we have ever read that has had my son literally SQUEALING with delight and anticipation for the next chapter. It's kind of funny (in a healthy respectful fun way) to see an Aspie flailing his hands over an Aspie book!
People are desperate.......2006-03-02
That's what you really need to be to decide to publish books of this low caliber. I know it's a niche market so there aren't that many authors writing for AI kids. Still, they should be more interesting than this. My son thought it was boring and completely missed the AI aspect. Nice try, but too simplistic.
Wonderful.......2006-01-24
My 8 year old son has AS. As with the other books by Kathy Hoopmann, the family is embracing Asperger as just being a unique genius situation, that is mostly enviable, as opposed to tabood. My son attributes his smarts and intellect to AS, he does not consider the "negative" behavior important. Which is ok, because you need to build to positive self esteem in those kids.
I highly recommend these books...
This book REALLY Rocks!!!!!!.......2003-09-23
This book was a really good book about a boy with Asperger's and an Asperger's adventure. I am a 10 year old boy with Asperger's and this was a great book with a great title. It was kind of an adventure and a mystery. I think parents with kids with Asperger's should read these 2 books, because they help explain how a kid with Asperger's thinks.
My eight year old son really enjoyed this book........2003-04-11
My son has AS (Asperger's Syndrome) and his father was also diagnosed with AS (at the age of 9). I did not want my son to grow up denying that he has this unique way of looking at life because I want him to own it and be proud of who he is with a unique angle on every situation. These books by Kathy Hoopmann have made that wish a reality. My son enjoyed this book a great deal and wanted us to try to get a hold of her other books (which we were able to get from our local library). We are currently reading them and they are equally good. I would highly recommend this author. These books are rare in the world of autism. I have found nothing else out there that adequately and interestingly explains the unique challenges faced by children with AS in a way that a child could read about and enjoy. I am planning to buy the series in part so that we can let his best friend read about this "disability" and understand why and how my son is different than him.
Book Description
Forgiveness Is a Choice is a self-help book for people who have been deeply hurt by another and caught in a vortex of anger, depression, and resentment. As a creator of the first scientifically proven forgiveness program in the country, Robert D. Enright shows how forgiveness can reduce anxiety and depression while increasing self-esteem and hopefulness toward one's future. This groundbreaking work demonstrates how forgiveness, approached in the correct manner, benefits the forgiver far more than the forgiven. Filled with wisdom and warm encouragement, the book leads the reader on a path that will bring clarity and peace. Enright is careful to distinguish forgiveness from "pseudoforgiveness" and to reassure readers that forgiveness does not mean accepting continued abuse or even reconciling with the offender. Rather, by giving the gift of forgiveness, readers are encouraged to confront and let go of their pain in order to regain their lives.

Saved my marriage!.......2007-10-03
Truly an awesome explanation of what forgiveness is and is not. I had harbored resentment for years and my husband and I were actually separated when I ordered this book as a last resort. I accomplished more through this book than I would have in months of counseling. In just a few weeks, I worked through all of the assignments and my heart was completely changed once I was able to take the step of forgiveness. My husband and I are back together and better than ever. Yay! We will celebrate our 28th anniversary this month.
Worth a read.......2007-04-05
After reading online reviews of multiple forgiveness books, I decided on this one when I was going through a traumatic time in my life. Since this is the only one I read, I have nothing to compare it to. But I read this book cover to cover and found it to be effective in my forgiveness journey.
The book deals a lot with the overall process of forgiveness and there are very specific journal exercises one must do throughout the book. I diligently did all the writing exercises, even though I thought some of the questions were repetitive. And in doing so, you really get to the root of what you are feeling and how to deal with all the emotions you have.
Almost two years later, having completely forgiven the person who hurt me the most, I went back and read those writing exercises. I could literally see the progress over time, how my perspective and feelings changed as I came to terms with what happened, and slowly but surely forgave and moved on. Since there are a lot of writing exercises to work through, this book requires time and patience to complete. But then again, forgiving a deep hurt requires a lot of patience. I recommend.
Forgiveness Is a Choice.......2007-03-31
I would recommend this book to anyone who thinks they have an issue with someone that is too big to ever forgive. I was just part way into the book, and its concepts immediately had a transforming effect on me and my anger. It gave me such a different way to look at things, which I'm grateful for. Anger eats us up more than the other person, and it destroys relationships. Read this book if you can't get over your anger towards someone!

The Best Forgiveness Book on the Market .......2006-09-29
I received the Ph.D. degree in one of the most research-oriented universities in the country. Therefore, any time an author purports to have discovered a new and effective program, I tend to ask, "Has this program been scientifically tested?" Most "self-help" books are based on impressions and opinions only, not science. This book, however, is the grand exception. Forgiveness Is a Choice is based on years of research into how people forgive. The research is strong and the results also strong. I gave this book as a gift to a friend who had a very serious break up with someone years ago. After reading the book, she decided to take the risk of forgiving and reconciling with the other person from whom she was estranged for years. The book provided the necessary help to get the reconciliation process started. My friend credits this book with the success. "I am sold on the power of forgiveness," she said. The reader is given systematic exercises in the forgiving process. You start with exploring the anger you have, then you turn to a decision to forgive, including a clear exposition of what forgiveness is and is not. Next, you are given cognitive/thinking tasks to aid your forgiving, followed by affective/feeling tasks. In the Discovery Phase of forgiving (the final phase of the forgiveness process), the reader learns a great deal about oneself, the other person, and relationships. The author's encouragement of the reader's journaling as a means of reflection is very useful. Although the author makes the point that forgiveness benefits the forgiver, he is clear that forgiveness itself is not at all a self-focused process. Instead, as the author notes, forgiveness is a moral process in which you reach out with compassion and understanding to the one who hurt you. This book has received much national attention. I read an article in USA Today favorably reporting on this book. I also caught the radio program, Talk of the Nation, on National Public Radio in which this book was featured. I highly recommend this thoughtful and helpful book.

An Idea Whose Time Has Come.......2004-10-29
Robert K. Greenleaf published his seminal essay, The Servant as Leader, in the early 1970's. Since then, leaders committed to finding a better way to serve their organizations have embraced the idea. This volume contains a rich olio of essays by writers, drawn from diverse fields, looking to bring servant leadership from theory into practice. James Autry's essay, "Love and Work" is stunning in its message and based on the fact that the messenger is a former CEO of a large publishing company. Others explore the links between servant leadership and board chairmanship, restorative justice and ethical leadership. Don't pass up Meg Wheatley's essay, "From Hero to Host."

A Good Route Map to Forgiveness.......2006-02-05
This book has three parts. The first one contains a discussion of what forgiveness is, what it means for our lives and how it can be achieved. Albeit brief, this section provides an invaluable route map for whomever might be in need to overcome injuries of the past.
In my view, the second past is the less usable. It contains a general description of 9 fictitious characters and analyzes how forgiveness can help them in their lives. A little vague and simplistic, I think this section could have well been done without.
Finally, the excellent third part analyzes how prayer and, in particular, centering prayer, can help you to forgive and achieve a whole live. The writing is very clear in this section, despite dealing with very complex topics.
The book is openly Christian. Non-believers may have problems in following it.
Forgiving.......2002-05-02
With all the problems in the Catholic church at the moment, it was refreshing to go back and re-read Father William's book. He is an amazing story teller. Through his stories, one sees how forgiveness benfits the forgiver and is a necessary part of the healing process. The church should be giving copies of this book to all the abuse victims to help them find peace.

Book Description
THE JOURNEY OF FORGIVENESS: Fulfilling The Healing Process, first and foremost, emphasizes the process nature of forgiveness. The author, a former psychotherapist, has come to believe that forgiveness is not an event willed by an ego which desires to be free of gu8lt, which may long for connection with those who have oneself, or which hopes to comply with the admonitions modern awareness gurus. Rather, forgiveness, the author insists, is a conscious journey requiring a thorough knowledge of the offense(s) and its effects, as well as the most essential pre-requisite, self-forgiveness. The book offers a compassionate yet courageous challenge to look deeply into the wounds inflicted, the emotional and spiritual effects of the wounds, and the psyche of the offender(s) in order to enter and complete what is nothing less than a daunting rite of passage. The author's style, poignant, poetic, and frequently disturbing, relentlessly dispels all illusions of quick-fix forgiveness but offers supportive, no-nonsense exercises for embarking on a life-changing, transformative journey.

Book Description
This book contains a scientific discovery based on a natural psychological law which was hidden so carefully behind layers of dogma in the guise of truth that it wasn't found until now. This knowledge allows mankind, for the very first time, to veer in a different direction, creating the conditions that prevent hurt and retaliation in human relations.
The scientific discovery was made in 1959 by a self-learned man who after many years of intense study observed a universal principle never perceived before. Stumbling upon such an important finding, it was difficult for him to comprehend the magnitude of what he had uncovered. It took him many more years to transcribe his revelation into book format so it could be understood by others. When it came time to get his work published he was turned down because he was not a member of a leading university, and held no distinguishing titles. Sadly, he died in obscurity in1991, at the age of 72. Until today, his work has never been given a careful review, nor has it been widely distributed. This discovery has far-reaching implications for today's world because it prevents the conditions that lead to hurt and retaliation in human relations. For the very first time we are able to get a glimpse of a new world where there will be no war, crime, or hatred between man and man. The author made a prediction that the Golden Age would become a reality in the 20th century. Unfortunately, this did not come to pass because he was unable to reach the leading scientists of his time who could have validated his findings. Now more than ever before it is imperative that this natural law be investigated and brought to light, for the world is on the brink of a major disaster. We cannot afford to sit idly by and let others take the lead in this important investigation; otherwise, this discovery could be lost for another century. God has given mankind the basic blueprint. It is now up to us to apply it...before it is too late.
Decline and Fall of All Evil was edited and compiled by Janis Rafael.

The Plan 9 From Outerspace of Books.......2007-10-08
The book is presented in an awkward style where the author presents imaginary conversations he's having with people that he readily gets the best of. The other person then gushes enthusiastically about the authors reasoning. The prose and self glorification aren't the only problems with the text though.
Lessan likes to present even his philosophical ideas as scientific validated theories.
However not all of them are even testable hypothesis, and the ones that are testable he never bothered to try testing, or apparently reading any research in the field that was available even at the time the book was written.
His first discovery regarding free will he claims will lead to a world in which no one can hurt another person. The caveat is that these ideas can only been tested when he first has complete compliance from the entire worlds population. This last part even requires a period of military action first where dissenters are taken care of.
His second discovery, being the most testable, proves to be the weakest. Here the author claims that he can perceive an event, in real time, over great distances, without the light from the object having to have first had time to reach our eye. That perception was a process occurring without light reaching the eye and at greater than light speeds.
The most famous of his examples is seeing our newly ignited instantly sun eight minutes before the first rays of its' light can touch the earth.
The claims he lays out here are easily testable, don't match any observation ever made, and defy everything known about light, optics, and physics.
This would be Lessans worst mistake if we didn't get to his third discovery.
The third claim involves proving we are born again through an argument involving pronoun usage. The difference between people saying I or You and a person's inability to say I any more after their death convinced him that one of those other You out there must now be I.
These are without a doubt one of the most poorly reasoned proofs I've ever seen collected in one book. Save your money.

Book Description
The question of forgiveness is an essential part of counseling and psychotherapy. Many clients retain memories of abuse or other traumatic events and may not be willing to forgive. This book explores whether forgiveness is helpful or harmful and offers a framework for therapists to help their clients break out of a cycle of bitterness.
With perspectives on personal relationships to political trauma, the contributors discuss the utility of forgiveness in the context of therapy and in today's more secular world. The editors, practicing Christian Terry Spy and agnostic Cynthia Ransley argue for and against the merits of forgiveness. They come together to suggest a "dual orientation model" a way of helping people face the wrong while rebuilding a different future in which the individual finds his or her own unique path.
