Probably my favorite Gibson.......2007-09-15
This is probably my favorite Gibson. I feel it to have his strongest character development, which is something that has never been his strong point. This is was his peak before he did the awful Virtual Light.
Razor girl shines.......2007-09-14
This novel along with neuromancer allows sally shears aka molly to shine. In this novel she plays a more supporting role than in neuromancer but still manages to grab you every time she appears. This novel adds much needed background to the sprawl. A read well worth any Gibson fans time. Think of that..Gideon's Fall: When You Dont Have a Prayer, Only a Miracle Will Do
SF NOIR...POETIC DREAMSCAPES OF A DISTOPIC FUTURE...(Part 3).......2007-05-22
I have read this masterpiece (together with the other two of the Sprawl series: NEUROMANCER and COUNT ZERO) during my university years, about a decade ago. Since then I have re-read it countless times.
Many a times the third book of a trilogy is published only to fulfill contractual obligations: this is definitely NOT the case here. Every one of those three is a standalone masterpiece.
Sure, the Sprawl trilogy defined cyberspace, wireheads, zaibatsu-controlled society and futuristic discontent. But this is not the reason why one enjoys these novels so much. It is the beautiful poetic language. The syncopated phrases. The direct effect of verbalized brand names. The noir feeling, rare at the time in a SF novel.
Wlliam Gibson had already reaped the fame and fortune from his first two novels. In this one you will find his images more bold, his phrases more relaxed and his writing more tight. Absolutely Beautiful!
Even reading only some pages brings up powerful imagery, unforgettable prose...
Start with NEUROMANCER. Then COUNT ZERO. And finally this one.
A Masterpiece Trilogy!!! Own them all!!!
Better and better.......2006-06-20
Ok, here's the thing, I had always meant to read the whole Gibson trilogy in order. Year after year I planned to set aside some time and do it right. I just never got around to it. So, on some recent travels I was out of things to read and saw a weathered copy of Mona Lisa Overdrive in the $2 book bin. I consider it two bucks very well spent.
Keeping in mind that I was laboring through a steep but enjoyable learning curve for the first third of the book, I found Mona Lisa Overdrive difficult to immerse myself in early, but better and better as it went on. By the end, I was cursing myself for not starting at the beginning of the trilogy. Perhaps if I had, the resolutions to some characters' stories would have been even more fulfilling.
Despite that, this was still a great sci-fi book. Four stars for now, and I might upgrade that once I do my homework and read the other two books.
Tough to Review.......2005-10-30
Compared to almost every other book around, this is a wonderful read. Compared to Neuromancer, however, it's a bit of a letdown.
It's funny. The writing itself is better in this book. The characters are more rounded and Gibson is a lot more assured when it comes to pace and descripions. But as technically brilliant he's become, he wrote a check with the first novel that the next two sequels couldn't cash. Mona Lisa Overdrive lacks a certain amount of passion and though he was something of a cypher, it doesn't have a character as powerful as Case. Even Molly, who makes a reappearance here, came across as a shadow of her previous self.
Still, if you like Neuromancer and Count Zero, this is a pretty good conclusion to the trilogy.

Book Description
The skeptics have had their say; now listen to the experts. In hundreds of interviews with children who had once been declared clinically dead, Dr. Morse found that children too young to have absorbed our adult views and ideas of death, share first-hand accounts of out-of-body travel, telepathic communication and encounters with dead friends and relatives. Finally illuminating what it is like to die, here is proof that there is that elusive "something" that survives "bodily death."
"New information on what may await us after death...Responsible, highly readable, and certainly thought-provoking."

Closer To The Light by Dr Melvin Morse MD.......2007-09-07
I have read numerous books on the subject of NDE's. This one touched me like not other I have on the subject. Dr Morse has written many books on the subject as it is apparent he has dedicated a large part of his life studying the facets of the near death experience. Let me just say that this book is always by my bed. It's pages have been read many times over, so much so, that they are now worn. Very well written, very enlightening. Powerful.

A pioneer work with Dr. Moody's.......2005-09-30
I first read Dr. Morse's collection of near-death experiences in the mid-1980s when death was only an academic subject for a thiry-something person. I was fascinated by the accounts he and physician Raymond Morse had collected from patients and felt a sense of reassurance that the compiler was a scientist. The stories are so compelling, it is hard to put down the book. These reports changed my outlook on life. Now, about two decades later, this book makes it easier to accept a most shattering loss, the passing of my partner and husband of 33 years. However, I'm more drawn now, not to the accounts of "tourists," who have gone and come back, but the permanent residents whom mediums like George Anderson have interviewed.
My Fav. NDE Books- I've Been There Too.......2004-01-01
One day in 1995 I died, and had a NDE. Ever since then, I've been reading everything I can on the subject. According to most stories I've read, I had an unusual one, not going down a tunnel, but experiencing many interesting phenomena all the same. It seems to me that there are some NDE books and magazine articles that are just hype, and published just to give recognition. I have found, through my many years and multitudes of books on the subject, that there is an underlining truth and spirit that pervades the true experiences. So, I have compiled a list of my best reads for NDE books - ones that I consider genuine and adding validating light to the personal NDE experience. I have left out compilations, these are personal narratives. I hope you enjoy them too.

Informing and Compelling.......2003-12-26
After reading many books by several empowering authors such as Betty Eadie, John Edward, Sylvia Browne, and Tiffany Snow, that I am still reading, my life has opened up to me in such a compelling and wonderful way. This new book is well written, and thought provoking. There are great transforming authors, who shift the consciousness of humankind in a way never known before, and have the courage to reveal their paranormal experiences. "Closer" is one of these.
Customer Reviews:
FROM A CHILDS POINT OF VIEW.......2007-02-08
I love reading about hauntings and near death experiences but this book was well researched and easy to understand telling about near death experiences from a child's point of view rather than the adult's point. I really liked reading about some of them and some of them really touched and moved me. I liked this book.
A Wonderful Book that You Will Want to Re-Read!.......2005-04-04
I have read many books through the years about near death experiences - this one is my favorite! Because the near death expereinces are told by children, they come through clearly to the reader as "pure" and authenic.
The doctor has done extensive research about the NDR experience and he writes in a way that the layman - someone without his medical background - can understand. As interesting as the doctor's researach is, it is the recollections described by the children in such a matter-of-fact way that makes it so extraordinary.
After reading it, I came away with the feeling that, yes, this is truly a profound experience that many people have. In my opinion, having the NDR experience told in the simple and innocent way of children is one of the best sources to learn about it and to try to understand what a very special experience it is.
I remember reading in the early part of the book about when the doctor for the first time was being told about the NDR experience by a little girl who had technically drowned and he had helped revive. He must have been looking at her in an incredulous way as she was telling him about what had happened to her and seeing the shock in the doctor's face as he listened to her, she said, "Don't worry, heaven is fun!".
I promise you, if you read "Closer to the Light" you will NEVER forget it, and you will want to hold onto it and read it again and again and share it with your family and friends.
Book Description
Pillow Talk for Couples is a devotional gift book with a twist. It offers one month of devotionals for couples to share together at bedtime. Each day will have a short story, a question to talk about, a verse to sleep on and a good night prayer. It's an interesting, funny, positive, interactive book designed to improve communications in couples. "You will sleep more soundly, diminish needless quarrels and feel more in tune with each other.
Pillow Talk for Couples is designed as something that both men and women will enjoy during the month of the book's use. The Parrotts' focus on communication rather than bedtime activity-sleep!
Les and Leslie Parrott write yet another thought provoking book. The Parrotts are a husband-wife team serving as official Marriage Ambassadors during the 1990's in Oklahoma. Their popular book, Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts, has also been transformed into a curriculum and seminars.
Customer Reviews:
Must have for all couples!.......2007-04-17
My husband and I received this for our bridal shower. It was the best gift we could have received. We read it every night before we go to bed and have even started over again after we finished it the first time. Les and Leslie are excellent and this book has real life application and reallys gets communication going!
I reccomend this for every married couple!!!
Good End-of-Day Devotional for Christian Marriages.......2005-05-15
This title is a very good devotional for Christian marriages. It does not delve into deep theology, but that direction is not the intent of the authors. Instead, they desire to see Christian couples drawn closer to one another and to encouraged in their commitment to their marriages.
I would have given this book five stars, but the Parrotts simply stopped too soon. Several more days worth of devotionals would have made this title an even better purchase. The ideas are excellent, but there are simply not enough of them. Still, it is a good investment for anyone involved in a Christian marriage.

Sweet Read.......2007-03-20
I enjoyed this novel. I like Melanie Schuster's writting style. Enjoyed the romance between Titus and Paris. And also enjoyed the closeness of all her family and friends. She definitely was a loved, young woman. And once Titus realized that he loved her the story couldn't get any better. I mean the brother definitely put his foot in his mouth, but in the end, he redeemed himself beautifully with the help of Trey!
Paris gets her man at last!.......2006-09-12
Secnd best in the series (so far). A good story and a great chance to catch up with all the other Deveraux and Cochrans. Some new characters are introduced. I look forward to the romance between Aunt Ruth and Paris dad Julian and all her brothers in the future.
A chance for love.......2006-08-09
"The closer I get to you, the more you make me feel" --Roberta Flack
Paris Deveraux, talk show host for The Deveraux Group based in Atlanta, has had a crush on Titus Argonne for several years, but was always too shy to approach him. When she finally gained enough confidence to make her move, it was far more rewarding than she expected, but it also left her feeling rejected. Weeks later, Paris is determined to put the 'Titus' experience behind her. Her show, Paris & Company, has gained many dedicated followers, but also an enemy or two. A threat on her life puts her back in Titus' path; his investigative service is being used by The Deveraux Group to find the perpetrator. For Paris, the timing could not be worse, seeing him on a regular basis makes her aware that she is not over him, and that he is only interested in a sexual liaison.
Titus is something of an enigma; he is gentle, loving, and sensitive but, because of his past, he is adamantly against a relationship. But, even with his list of negative things about committments, there is something different about Paris that will not allow him to just walk away from her. With renewed confidence, Paris now has plans of her own to further shatter his resistance.
Melanie Schuster has added yet another saga to the intrigue surrounding the Deveraux clan. As with her other stories the characters are complex and the drama is real. She allows the background of the two main characters to fuel the story and she adds octane with several subplots. THE CLOSER I GET TO YOU stands alone in content and delivery, but knowledge of the other stories in this collection will enhance reader's appreciation.

Wonderful.......2006-07-24
Ms. Schuster always delivers a great romance story and to die for heros. The Closer I Get To You is no exception. I also like the fact her heroines are equally as strong. Paris Deveraux has had a crush on Titus Argonne since first meeting him in Let It Be Me, I wondered if we would get a story to tell us more about the quiet friend of Martin Deveraux. I'm glad Ms Schuster has given her readers what we have been waiting for and I look forward to continuing to read more about this proud, and loving family.
An OK read!.......2006-07-23
This story would have been better if I had read other installments featuring the Deveraux's and Cohrans. Once I got past the first few chapters the story took off and became more interesting.

Great Daily Devotional.......2004-11-27
I use this book everyday. It is especially good for journaling.
For each day, there are short readings from the Old Testament and New Testament of the New American Bible (the official text used by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops). The readings are grouped around a monthly and weekly theme.
For instance, the month of January is "Knowing God." The readings are grouped around themes such as "Who is God?", "Our Creator and Father", "Jesus as Savior", "The Holy Spirit", and "God's Plan for His Creation."
If you like to meditate and/or journal, this book is perfect because it let's you think about how the scriptures follow the themes rather than reading someone else's point of view on them. This book is also great if you use the passages of scripture to think about the themes for the rest of the day.
A great book for reading a bit of the Bible each day.
