Book Description
The triumphant conclusion to the blockbuster trilogy that made science fiction history!
In
Dune: House Corrino Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson bring us the magnificent final chapter in the unforgettable saga begun in
Dune: House Atreides and continued in
Dune: House Harkonnen.
Here nobles and commoners, soldiers and slaves, wives and courtesans shape the amazing destiny of a tumultuous universe. An epic saga of love and war, crime and politics, religion and revolution, this magnificent novel is a fitting conclusion to a great science fiction trilogy ... and an invaluable addition to the thrilling world of Frank Herbert’s immortal
Dune.
Dune: House Corrino
Fearful of losing his precarious hold on the Golden Lion Throne, Shaddam IV, Emperor of a Million Worlds, has devised a radical scheme to develop an alternative to melange, the addictive spice that binds the Imperium together and that can be found only on the desert world of Dune.
In subterranean labs on the machine planet Ix, cruel Tleilaxu overlords use slaves and prisoners as part of a horrific plan to manufacture a synthetic form of melange known as amal. If amal can supplant the spice from Dune, it will give Shaddam what he seeks: absolute power.
But Duke Leto Atreides, grief-stricken yet unbowed by the tragic death of his son Victor, determined to restore the honor and prestige of his House, has his own plans for Ix.
He will free the Ixians from their oppressive conquerors and restore his friend Prince Rhombur, injured scion of the disgraced House Vernius, to his rightful place as Ixian ruler. It is a bold and risky venture, for House Atreides has limited military resources and many ruthless enemies, including the sadistic Baron Harkonnen, despotic master of Dune.
Meanwhile, Duke Leto’s consort, the beautiful Lady Jessica, obeying the orders of her superiors in the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood, has conceived a child that the Sisterhood intends to be the penultimate step in the creation of an all-powerful being. Yet what the Sisterhood doesn’t know is that the child Jessica is carrying is not the girl they are expecting, but a boy.
Jessica’s act of disobedience is an act of love — her attempt to provide her Duke with a male heir to House Atreides — but an act that, when discovered, could kill both mother and baby.
Like the Bene Gesserit, Shaddam Corrino is also concerned with making a plan for the future — securing his legacy. Blinded by his need for power, the Emperor will launch a plot against Dune, the only natural source of true spice. If he succeeds, his madness will result in a cataclysmic tragedy not even he foresees: the end of space travel, the Imperium, and civilization itself.
With Duke Leto and other renegades and revolutionaries fighting to stem the tide of darkness that threatens to engulf their universe, the stage is set for a showdown unlike any seen before.
From the Hardcover edition.

Well done........2007-10-09
House of Corrino was a well done book, I didn't enjoy it as much as I did the 1st 2 book of the trilogy, but what I like about it was that it tied everything in. Made everything fall into place. I'm currently on the 2nd Dune book by Frank Herbert and I think that his son Brian certainly is following in his dad's footsteps!
Super Reader.......2007-08-26
Interesting backstory, but Herbert the younger is no Herbert, by any stretch of the imagination. Books that you only want to buy cheap. However, if you are interested in the history of, surprisingly enough, House Corrino, and how that relates to the story of the Dune Universe as a whole, then you will probably want to read it.
An adequate cap to the "House Trilogy" .......2007-07-06
The final installment of the "Dune: House Trilogy", this offering rounds it out acceptably and *does* tie up many loose ends that had been created by the previous two books. However I found the final third of the book to be a rush of bring-up-issue, resolve, repeat.
Also disappointing is that the richness of the characters was neither exploited nor acknowledged. Characters folded into single dimensional entities that acted and re-acted to situations in a way that was simply expedient to move the story along to its conclusion rather than with the greater depth and complexity that Dune readers would expect.
If you have read the preceeding two books of this trilogy then you'll definitely want to read this book to wrap up the series. I would not recommend this as a standalone read, but as a cap it is quite adequate. If you're a die-hard Dune fan, then I expect you'll still enjoy this prequel that leads directly to the original "Dune" book. Personally I found the "Legends of Dune" trilogy vastly more epic and entertaining than the "House Trilogy".
My recommendation? Read Dune first, then any of the other post-Dune books, *then* "Legends of Dune". Only read the "House Trilogy" if you find you are so "Dune" mad that you begin suffering withdrawal without some kind of Dune fix.
Much better than the previous.......2006-08-19
I'll try to be brief.
House Corrino is a much better book than the previous two in the trilogy (House Atreides and House Harkonnen). These too books, most probably, had to be written to introduce characters and plots for the interesting developments in House Corrino.
My advise: keep going with the Atreides and Harkonnen and be happy when you arrive to Corrino.
Lots of plots are non-important and could probably have been omitted. My opinion is that B. Herbert and K. J. Anderson tried to fill the pages they had already sold to the publisher. Anyway, they make the books more lively and clearly clear the way for The Hunters of Dune and Sandworms of Dune.
You should not fool yourself in ever thinking they are as good as the original F. Herbert books, they are just fun anbd extend the universe in the Dune character's universe.
OK, let's look at this rationally..........2006-05-12
I am a "Dunetic". There is no escaping that fact. I have read everything I can get a hold of, including Herbert Jr.'s prequals. I've made my own observations of these books. Let me share them with you.
Let's look at the negative...
1. No, these books were not written by Frank Herbert. We all know that. No one should walk into them believing that they were. They lack Frank Herbert's grace and his beautifully written prose and poetry. Period.
2. These books conflict with many of the facts layed out in the Dune series WRITTEN by Frank Herbert. (I do not mention the Dune Encyclopedia as it is a well known fact that the author contrived a great deal of the information without clearing it with Herbert Sr.) It is my belief that when an author has died, "discovered" notes or not, the written and published works are to be the ONLY source. They should be the only "bible" of any fan writer or relative completing unfinished works. Discovered notes or outlines can be used so long as they correspond with the published works. Frank Herbert MAY have written the scene where Jessica and Leto meet (as written in House Harkonnen) however, for whatever reasons he had, he chose NOT to use that version in the original Dune. Brian Herbert should have respected that. He needs to take notes from Christopher Tolkien.
OK. Now the positive...
1. Are they fun to read? Yes. For someone craving more Dune stories, they were entertaining. They weren't the philosophical pieces of mastery his father left, but they were FUN.
2. Take with them what you want and leave the rest behind. I enjoyed the little storylines that DID fit into the Duniverse as depicted by Frank Herbert.
3. If you must, believe that the official Imperial records were tainted and changed by whichever organization you wish for whatever political reasons that they believed necessary to hide whatever secrets they were hording. Be it Guild, CHOAM, House Corrino, the Fremen, or the Bene Gesserit.
4. Just enjoy them for what they are. If you can seperate the different mediums, you might have fun reading them.

VERY INTERESTING BOOK.......2007-10-08
This book is one of the most interesting text book i have come across. It gives enough details of every well known religion. there are also photographs giveen to show you what the tevt is explaining.
Excellent Primer on the World's Religions.......2007-06-25
An excellent introduction to the world's primary religious and wisdom traditions: their origins, major tenets, peculiarities and similarities across the spectrum, and contemporary manifestations. Along with the companion book, An Anthology of Living Religions, this text offers a solid study in the world's religions.
hard read.......2007-02-09
While Living Religions is a good source of information, it was incredibly difficult to read. It was like reading an encyclopedia. I did not like the authors gender bias.
Archetypes explained........2007-01-08
Living Religions should be looked at as an attempt to describe and create an overview of current religious traditions in the world today. Thus, while it is descriptive of the practices, histories, and theologies of various faiths around the world, it attempts little psychological or sociological overview of religion as a whole. With practice dominant over theory, the title of Living Religions is clearly justified. Mary Pat Fisher has presented an overview of how religion enters the lives of people today.
The coverage is quite thorough. Introductory chapters present the primary universal ideas of religion both in general and by looking at commonalities in the various indigenous religions practiced mainly by small groups of people in often isolated parts of the world today. From there it moves roughly from India to East Asia, and then to the Near East in geographic coverage. Any religion followed by more than roughly five million people gets coverage, though the various denominational subsets necessarily are covered only in passing.
There are a few editorial aspects of Living Religions that should be mentioned. The first is that it is written as a textbook, with all that that implies. While it comes with suggested readings and bibliographies, and with study questions that haphazardly piece together the covered material, the writing also can fail to address the issues of religious passion and faith that makes tradition so compelling for so many people. In short, it can be rather languid. More to the point, it presents religious faith as an exclusively fixed and uplifting experience. Little is said about crises of faith or personal conflicts within. Followers as seen here are perpetually true and contented believers. It is the archetypes of religious belief that Living Religions presents rather than the actual living practice in most cases. The text provides many page-long case studies of religion in life, but only for the examples of people who are positively defined by such things. So here, again, we see the appropriateness of the title. Living Religions is not equivalent to Living Religious People, and what the reader gets is religion in the abstract. This is perfectly appropriate in an introductory text, though I think some level of exploration into actual practice would have been nice. What is less appropriate is that the author has at times made this perfection of faith a much more explicit editorial facet of the text. Examples of this are most clearly seen in the chapter on Islam, where Fisher mentions on far more than one occasion her opinion on the subject of religious violence and Islam. Namely, she rejects it, and in doing so shows that she is rejecting the truth of thousands of years of collective history. Fisher says, on page 480, "Whether state-sponsored or incited by militant extremists, violence finds no support in any religion." This is blatantly false, as a perusal of any number of sacred texts or newspapers will show. Under Fisher's editorial control, all paths lead to God, and so the reader here will find. Thus, one may look to Living Religions as a valid overview of the basic characteristics of the major religions in the world today. For deeper and truer insights, it's best to continue elsewhere.
Living Religions w/CD (6th Edition).......2006-03-22
I found Living Religions to be very interesting and informative. Before reading this book, I knew very litte about religions other than my own. After reading this text, I discovered the beauty in each religion presented and was able to erase the stereotypes and stigmas that I once held. I recommend this book to anyone who has little understanding of world religions and would like to become educated or for someone who may just need a reminder. It is an easy read, with the exception of some of the vocabulary associated with the different religions.

Joshua Harris follows up his bestselling I Kissed Dating Goodbye with Boy Meets Girl, the story of how he met and married his wife, Shannon. Where Harris's first book encouraged readers to throw off modern ideas of romantic fixation, Boy Meets Girl goes to the next level and urges single Christian men and women to pursue courtship, and ultimately marriage, thoughtfully and prayerfully. Knowing that many readers will balk at the idea of premeditated courtship, Harris insists that dating should not be emotional recreation but rather a careful decision rooted in obedience to God. While the anecdotes used to reveal true-to-life scenarios about dating pitfalls are somewhat elementary (and geared to those in their 20s), Harris succeeds in hammering home the point that obedience to God's word, selfless love, community, purity, and satisfaction in God are the most important aspect of any relationship. The last section of the book is particularly practical, discussing forgiveness of past sexual sin, questions to ask before tying the knot, and how an understanding of our sinful nature can lead to conflict resolution. For Harris's mere twentysomething years of life experience, his maturity and devotion to God are sincere evidence that he has indeed practiced what he has preached, resulting in a passionate relationship with the love of his life. --Jill Heatherly

Healthy, biblical, sensible, christian suggestions for pure relationships.......2007-09-03
This book is worth your time spent reading it. If you are a Christian and you wonder just how to have a pure relationship, in a world where there seem to be few, I recommend it.
This is an easy reader that runs smoothly, well written and well laid out. This is a young brother speaking to his fellow men and women about his own testimony of relationships, and what he has learned. He doesn't give a set of rules, but gives beautiful guidelines and counsels (and practical ones, more than only: 'Date Christians and don't have sex before marriage! Period!'). He is well aware that there is no 'one size - fit all' when it comes to relationships.
The red line that runs through it all is, that God is the creator of romance and longs for his children to experience it. That to live to the glory of God is to live for him, his way and reflecting him - even in our way of relationships.
Some might find faults with chapter 7 and find it to be a patriarchal, or narrow minded - but what I like about it is that he does call us men to stop being the wimps we have become in this age and be real men!
I found this a challenging book. When I read that "We glorify God in our relationships when we put our needs aside and base our decisions on what serves the interests of the other person" (Pg 36) - I was challenged! That might mean asking yourself, 'Is starting this relationship now what's best for her?' And that is a question passion many times does not allow to be asked. Therewithal this is a romantic book, the story in chapter 3 was wonderful, and a beautiful testimony of the rewards of thoughtful, selfless relationships. Chapter 10 'When your past comes knocking' is also precious and valuable for dealing with past errors in former relationships.
For us in Europe (or other places where the dating game is not played), this book is more practical then 'I kissed dating goodbye'. For who doesn't want the perfect relationship? Who says it is a myth and non-getter today? I think there is a reason for why most girls have fantasied about there wedding since they were small girls... for it is there inborn wish for a good relationship and marriage, and may it also be their fortune.
Go and look at the chapter's titles on the table of contents, they will give you the best overview of the contents of the book.
Say Hello to Courtship.......2007-03-28
As a young adult in my 20's, within marriageable age, this was a wonderful book. I think this was better than "I Kiss Dating Goodbye" that it addresses to people a bit older and the writing is much more mature in this one since Joshua Harris has acquired a bit more wisdom on this matter. Again, I do not agree with some things mentioned in this book (it could be a bit more conservative), but overall, a good book. I really like how it addresses what singles should be doing such as: wait on the will of God, do His work while you are single right now, prepare yourself for marriage by serving those in need.
I've recommended to many of my friends with marriage on their minds at the moment. Nothing was really new in that these have been addressed to me in the past, but it's a wonderful reminder.
Awwww, too cute!.......2007-03-17
My husband and I read this together while we were dating. It helps get your mind going in the right direction to have a wonderfully healthy courtship. Ironically, I finished reading "I kissed dating goodbye" just a week before I met my husband. So of course I recommend reading that one, too!
A bit disappointing.......2007-01-22
I was really enjoying this book and then I read the sad chapter about Shannon's past. It just broke my heart and made me cry. However, I felt more admiration for Joshua Harris, although I'll always think he kinda let himself down.
great book!.......2007-01-20
This book is incredibly well-written. My husband and I read it while dating and engaged and it brought out a lot of good things in our relationship that we may have struggled through blindly otherwise. I've passed it on to a few friends already and plan to continue to do so.

When God's people send "up" the incense of prayer and worship, God will send "down" supernatural power, anointing, and acts of intervention. Jim Goll paints a picture of prophetic clarity and urgency in this anointed work that sounds God's clarion call to His Church: This is the season for us to mount the walls with prayer and praise-and restore the lost art of intercession!
Customer Reviews:
Great Book on Prayer With A Chrismatic Slant To It.......2006-04-15
Despite the fact that Jim Goll and I probably disagree over much of his charismatic theology, I found this book on intercessory prayer to be a good read. Goll uses church history particularly with the Movarians in Germany to show the power of believers coming together to pray. It is a true eye-opener to see just how far the modern Church has turned away from her secret to power and this is prayer. The book is quite easy to read and Goll does a good job of not overwhelming you in each chapter. He leads the story of the Movarians (and others) along with Scripture in each chapter to point the disciple to a deeper prayer life.
Overall, despite Goll's charismatic theology and term usage, I found this book to be a good read and a faith builder on prayer.
Excellent.......2006-03-15
This is a very well written, informative and inspiring book and will be helpful to anyone desiring more from their prayer life and to draw closer to God.
Seeking God.......2006-03-12
This book really opened my eyes to the power of prayer and our need to really seek God. He desires to do more with and through us than we realize. I was not familiar with the Movarians and their 100 year continous prayer, 24/7. Their dedication sent out missionaries all over the world. Powerful book. The greatest weapon of spiritual warfare is the brillance of God's Presence. Have you spent time in His Presence? We don't know until we spend time knowing Him. You will be glad that you read this book. I carry it with me all of the time.
Key pieces of church history brought to life in our day........2002-08-20
This is a key book for our day as it will inform our generation of what happened with the Moravians & Count Zinzendorf, but not only what happened, but why. Jim Goll has the ability to see & hear from the heavenly perspective, and bring the past into the future. You will learn in this book that dry bones can live again.
Call to the "Watch of the Lord"!!.......1999-04-28
Do you desire to come closer to God's heart as you pray? Do you hunger for His answers but somehow feel you are missing the mark? God is waiting.
The Lost Art of Intercession will show you how prayer--sent up as incense to Heaven--releases God's power down upon us. Jim Goll intimately shares how God has responded to his own prayers--angelic visits to his family; visions giving life-changing direction; and all-encompassing transportation into the Lord's Presence.
See how our prayers go beyond our own lives to "affect the destiny of individuals and nations." Share in Jim Goll's amazement as he climbs the winding steps of the ancient stone watchtower of the Moravians who--200 years ago in the village of Herrnhut, Germany--"kept" a continuous 100-year prayer vigil. "As we prayed, agonized, and groaned under the obvious influence of the Holy Spirit, a strong wind suddenly blew about the tower where we were standing, whipping away hats and scarves in its power."
You will be inspired to help restore this lost art--to keep the Watch of the Lord today-- not only for yourself, your family, but also for the world!
