A Spell Is Better than a Thousand Words
Every mystic library reserves a place for this single potent volume of arcane lore. It's packed with ways to customize sorcerer and wizard characters, including:
New feats, spells, and magic items.
New prestige classes, including the dragon disciple, fatespinner, and pale master.
Information about special organizations such as the Broken Wands and the Arcane Order.
Maps of a mages' guildhall and a home that a sorcerer and a wizard share.
Tome and Blood is indispensable to players and Dungeon Masters who want to add a new dimension to sorcerers and wizards.
To use this accessory, a Dungeon Master also needs the Player's Handbook, the
Dungeon Master's Guide, and the Monster Manual. A player needs only the Player's Handbook.

cheese for the hero.......2003-11-28
Wizards must have for D&D
Pretty Good.......2003-10-09
well I got tome and blood for my birthday and I was looking through and I found some alright prestige classes. after a while I read a little bit farther in the prestige class section and found the Dragon Disiple. Since I am a sorcerer I was Amazed. It is literally the best Persige Class is the entire book. after thati look at the spells and I found the lesser acid orbs. they are like magic missle except a bit better.(at least i thin they are better. all in all i think this is a pretty good book.
A nice supplement.......2003-09-16
"Tome and Blood" is a fairly good supplement with a wide variety of useful feat, interesting prestige classes, and a couple of good spells. Some of the prestige classes, "The Acolyte of the Flesh" and the "Alienist" for example, would be hard pressed to be useful for a player character but would be nice NPC's.
I was slightly disappointed at the variety of schools, lots of innovation for necromancy, but the other schools, particularly illusion seemed to get short handed.
Also, compared to some of the d20 licensee products like Fantasy Flight Games's "Spells and Spellcraft" or Malhavoc Press's "Eldritch Might" series, this was pretty expensive for the amount of information given.
Great Metamagic, Good Spells, OK PrCs.......2003-04-08
This is probably the guidebook I use most, since I play a spellcaster in my current 3e campaign. I recommend this book if for no other reasons than to upgrade the type of feats you can draw on as a Wizard or Sorcerer and open up a number of new avenues your mage can explore. I really appreciate the metamagic feats, particularly energy admixture and substitution, which give a battle mage new tools to take on the numerous meanies with resistance to specific energies, and scult spell, which allows you to move beyond the circular blast of a standard fireball and into some very exciting alternatives. Among the new spells, the Orb and Lesser Orb spells are a solid choice for low- to mid-level offensive attacks. I had some difficulty with the PrCs, which struck me as being of limited value. Without a DM who tailors his campaign to the inclusion of the elements needed to tap the capabilities offered, many of them would be counterproductive for a player to take. However, if you have a DM who will work with you, there's some very interesting campaign arcs that can be explored.
Overall, a solid extension of magic options for the D&D system.
What a ripoff!.......2002-12-09
This book is good only for explaining the metamagic feats more realistically.
Beyond that, it's practically useless.
I bought it because the books I bought for the druid and bard classes were so helpful, and I thought I'd get more help with my wizard/sorcerer characters.
I should be so lucky.
The book lacks many new spells that I think are particularly useful to lower-level players.
The main reasons one would buy this book is for a more clear definition between a sorcerer and a wizard, and because it explains the metamagic feats in a more useful way than the players handbook does.

Book Description
Not even the gods noticed when Chariss was born with the mark of The Protector. Now she and her wizard guardian seek shelter from a mad sorcerer in a household not just full of secrets and false hope, but watched by the god who will unwittingly reveal her role in an impending war. When an orphan sets aside a lifetime of running and fear to accept the responsibilities of guarding an arrogant deity, can she face the trials in the prophecies she uncovers? Will Nigel Taiman of her latest refuge dare to use his dragon heritage to bind her to his estate or to help her in her duty? "Choices Meant for Gods is without a doubt the freshest most engaging high fantasy novel to come out in years and breathes new life into a tired genre. The characters leap off the page and the plot is lightning quick and deftly written with many layers that tease the mind and imagination. Choices Meant for Gods is not a mere novel; it is a gorgeous piece of written art. I can hardly wait for the second book!" Jamieson Wolf, Linear Reflections Author of Hope Falls, Electric Pink, Electric Blue, and Garden City "In Choices Meant for Gods, Sandy Lender takes her readers of fantasy fiction by the hand and leads them through an exciting world filled with sorcerers, gods, goddesses, dragons, and other mythical creatures. Through the use of interesting characters and clever dialogue ("Try not to think, Nicolas. You look so much more handsome when you're bewildered."), she weaves a spell of magic and fantasy. The only problem for the reader may occur at the end of the book when they find themselves wanting more and discover they will have to wait for book two!" Gary R. Hoffman, Author for Short Story Anthologies including Seven By Seven and Never Safe

Mortals should choose to read it.......2007-08-01
I confess: I do not read much. I have an amazing attention deficit that prevents me from finishing even the loftiest of classics. I finished reading this book. This fact may not seem so interesting to most, but is high praise considering the countless unfinished volumes in my office. The characters are endearing, Onweald springs vividly from the pages, and I anxiously await the unfolding of the next scenes in that world's history.
Simply cannot put this book down.......2007-07-13
I have to admit that I haven't finished th book yet, but not for lack of trying! I was explaining to a colleague why I was so tired (staying up until 2 AM, reading "just one more chapter" of "Choices Meant for Gods") and how exhilarating I am finding this book! Sandy Lender has taken great care to develop interesting characters. The book keeps you guessing. The teacher in me likes to try to predict what is coming next -- and I'm almost never right! I can't wait until Ms. Lender writes another book!
Great New Fantasy!.......2007-05-01
It's so refreshing when a novel comes along that grabs you from the outset and won't let go. Such was my experience with "Choices Meant for Gods." The characters are as real as the author can make them without literally leaping from the pages to be with the reader. Instead, the reader is drawn inexorably into Lender's new world, where even gods are "human." I hope that many more readers can have the opportunity to enjoy this marvelous work!
Great new Fantasy Realm!.......2007-04-27
Too many fantasy authors are re-hashing the same old plots, acted out by the same old tired heroes and heroines. Here we have a refreshing new take on things! I love that Chariss is both someone I can identify with and whom I can dream about becoming. . . it's what fantasy is all about!
Gods & Mortals.......2007-04-23
This book has a great deal to offer. It is good fantasy. It is good writing, period. The pace is fast, the characters well-crafted and compelling. The treatment of the gods and their interaction with mortals is original. My big complaint is that I must wait for the sequel(s) to learn the outcome.

Weightiest book in a light series.......2005-10-26
This is volume 11 in a set of books produced by TSR as one of their many, many innovative efforts to keep their RPG (Role Playing Game) ball rolling. It is also the climactic finale of a trilogy about orphaned wizard's son Carr Delling.
Anyone familiar with the Choose your Own Adventure books will recognize the basic format. Every page or two, the book gives you some sort of choice, and you flip to a different section of the book based on what decision you make. Because different readers make different choices, the book can provide a whole host of stories based on the interaction.
These Adventure Gamebooks go one step further (and write the prose a bit better). In this book, you not only make decisions, but you also roll dice to determine the outcome of the things you attempt to do. In the beginning, your dice rolls give the main character different attributes (such as great strength, or great wisdom, for example), and the character's scores in these areas might facilitate dealing with a problem that crops up in the book.
One appeal of this type of book is that, for gaming geeks, it can be difficult to get a game going, requiring as it does many hours of participation from several people. Adventure Gamebooks represent a chance to scratch that RPG itch without needing a friend to play with.
By wrapping up the trilogy, Clash of the Sorcerers has achieved an epic feel in a medium that is plagued by fragmentation and brevity. This is quite an accomplishment, and represents the height of the format. Hero Carr Delling must face his archenemy Arno, an evil wizard who orphaned Carr by killing his wizard father.
I'd recommend these books to the person who has enjoyed the D&D or Choose Your Own Adventure experience. They're a neat idea, even if they never really took off.

Helping to Add Spice and Variety to your Sorcerer.......2003-08-05
This book truly helps to add spice and variety to your sorcerer character or your players' sorcerer characters. Character concepts with balanced variant rules allow you to fine tune the sorcerer with some stylistic playing flavor. The prestige classes help make classic sorcerer idea into specific roleplaying machines with the added benefit of new and different powers. What struck my fancy the most were the fey-based ideas, Prestige Class, and the like. Spells, ley line rules, heritage templates, and ritual powers you can awaken instead of learning a new spell will truly set your Suave Sorcerer apart from the near-sighted wizard. It may not be 3.5 rules, but there will be an update soon if you are hoping for one. Still, I'd recommend this book for sheer amount of valuable content.

This has to be one of my favourite books.......2005-03-13
It has action, romance, comedy and much much more. I finished the book in a day, just because i couldn't put it down. I'd recommend it to everyone.
The Dragon Sorcerer - an original.......2004-03-04
Much as I like Arthur W Jordin's review of THE DRAGON SORCERER, I must make on small correction -- it is not a reprint of the 1986 novel ROGUE PIRATE, but a new novel based on it, entirely (and significantly) rewritten and expanded. The new book is 10,000 words longer.
ROGUE PIRATE was disowned by its author due to the original publisher's horrible editorial tampering, which included such howlers as adding cannons to one scene (in a world with no gunpowder!) and changing references from "sea-serpent" to "sea crustacean".
In addition to the novel, THE DRAGON SORCERER also has a half dozen short stories set in the same world added to the end as a bonus.
Pirates and Dockside Taverns.......2004-02-17
The Dragon Sorcerer is a collection of short works. The title novel was previously published as Rogue Pirate and the five short stories are selections from the Tales of Slab's Tavern.
In the novel, Fel Blackmane was orphaned by an unscrupulous trader at the age of ten. Two years later he joined the pirate band of Aldenius Frago, rising to be first mate and finally becoming the master of his own ship, the Pamah Reach. Soon he gained the reputation of being one of the foremost pirates of his time and aspired to be the King of the Pirates.
Fel has enhanced his reputation by performing an impossible task each year. Two years ago, Fel had fought three of the best warships of King Ornay of Zarvoon within a week's time and sent all three back to the king's wife draped in red roses. Last spring he had taken the supposedly impenetrable island fortress of Bar Altibb and had stolen the treasure of the Countess Alna Savina ... and a kiss as well.
This year, Fel Blackmane has sailed to the Grayhaven Fair to sell back booty from his recent pirating forays to their former owners. All goes well until they are departing the fair, when a dragon appears out of the sky and attacks the ship. His first mate Ool barely saves the two of them by means of a magic potion.
Now Fel is without a ship and crew and he is being sought by the spies and assassins of Countess Alna. Moreover, he craves revenge on the person who sent the dragon to destroy him. He turns to his old friend Aldenius Frago for assistance.
In the Tales of Slab's Tavern, Ulander Rasym is the operator of this tavern near the docks of Zelloque. Theoretically he is also the owner, but Slab's ghost still involves himself in day to day functions. Since the tavern is a favorite meeting place between the living and the dead, Slab does share in the hosting of their clientele.
Indeed, the problems faced by Ulander and his staff are often quite spiritual, in the ghostly sense. For example, an Oracle of Shon Atasha comes searching within the tavern for splinters from the bones of his god. Then an old acquaintance decides to put Slab on the shelf. Later the betrothed of Deana Ri, the younger sister of the Great Lord, shows up in the tavern with a life or death message for his fiancee. Soon thereafter, the Brothers Lammiat have a quarrel about the foreseen destruction of Zelloque and Nollin takes charge despite Halin's objections. Finally, Ulander and Slab clean up the debris from the destruction and open Slab's Tavern to a wider clientele.
All these stories are enjoyable, but still leave something to be desired. Maybe they are too short, for somehow they don't seem to be complete. Nevertheless, they are worth reading. Enjoy.
-Arthur W. Jordin

It's a book. No, it's a game!.......2005-10-26
This is volume 9 in a set of books produced by TSR as one of their many, many innovative efforts to keep their RPG (Role Playing Game) ball rolling.
Anyone familiar with the Choose your Own Adventure books will recognize the basic format. One appeal of this type of book is that, for gaming geeks, it can be difficult to get a game going, requiring as it does many hours of participation from several people. Adventure Gamebooks represent a chance to scratch that RPG itch without needing a friend to play with.
This particular book is the second in a trilogy within the series, which marks another improvement over the Choose Your Own Adventure books. The Kingdom of Sorcery trilogy follows the adventures of Carr Delling. It's more fun than some of the other books in the series because there is a broad array of spells that can be cast, which adds some flavor.
I'd recommend these books to the person who has enjoyed the D&D or Choose Your Own Adventure experience. They're a neat idea, even if they never really took off.

Merlin The Sorcerer.......2004-10-19
I have a great deal of interest in historical settings and Merlin The Sorcerer really satisfies that need. The settings of the old Briton and Mayan Empires are realistic to the point that you actually feel you are there and understand how they effect our lives today. Merlin The Sorcerer grabs your attention and won't let go. I can hardly wait for the next book in the series.

This book was great! It was quick to develop all of the characters and fast paced. It didn't loose your interest at any point. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Collaboratively compiled and deftly edited by Edward F. Zigler (Sterling Professor Emeritus of Psychology, Yale University), Dorothy G. Singer (Senior Research Scientist at the Department of Psychology and Child Study Center, Yale University), and Sandra J. Bishop-Josef (Assistant Director of the Yale Center In Child Development and Social Policy), Children's Play: The Roots Of Reading is a collection of essays providing the reader with summaries of contemporary and extensive empirical research into the value of play for both cognitive and social development. The sixteen contributors are leading experts in play research, child development, and early childhood education. The cumulative effect of the contributions is to underscore the importance of play in enabling children to learn basic literacy skills, achieve social awareness, and in developing and implementing creative problem solving skills. Children's Play is especially recommended for its comprehensive summary of the developmental benefits of play enhanced with examples of how research has been applied in practice, together with multicultural perspectives on play and ideas for how to play imaginative games with children. Children's Play is very highly recommended and quite accessible reading for parents, teachers, preschool staff members, and students in the field of Child Development.
