Book Description
In this emotional story of parental love, a single mother of a teenage baseball player who exhibits the batting eye of a professional athlete, tries to shield and protect her son from the world of over-zealous scouts, hard-nosed coaches, and money-hungry agents. Guided by his mother's firm and steadfast wisdom and his extraordinary talent, both mother and son make it to the major leagues. In the end, THE YOUNGEST HERO reveals that when it comes to finding your way in life, a God-fearing mother is more important than God-given talent.

The Best There Ever Way\s.......2006-03-03
When you finish this book, you'll be searching the Internet to find out if the Youngest Hero was a real person, it's so real. The perfect book for young and old men that love the game of baseball. The author allows you to get into the thoughts of the characters and you become a part of their life. It's the best there ever was. If you like this one, check out author John R. Tunis for other real sports books you can't wait to pick up again to finish.
Started great, but left me dry at the end.......2005-05-06
The first two-thirds of this book were wonderful, but there wasn't enough conflict and suspense and as the end approached there was nothing to resolve. The book ended in a straight, predictable, and grossly sensational fashion that left me feeling cheated.
The author let me down on this one.
A Homerun!.......2003-02-13
This book was excellent. I loved every single minute of it. Even though I am not a big sports fan, this book was engrossing with it's facinating detail to the game of baseball. It gave me a new appreciation of sports, and what it means to the people involved in it. The characters were precious, and I truly felt like I knew them. Several days later, I still remember them well. THAT's the sign of a great book!
Phenomenal.......2002-09-19
Since I reluctantly read Hometown Legend and was blown away, I've been looking at Jerry Jenkins' other books, and it's been fantastic. This is a wonderful book, and if you're a sports fan like me, you'll appreciate the incredible attention to detail and obvious sports knowledge Jerry has. However, if you're not a sports fan, like my wife, you'll still love it like she did because of the precious characters and terrific dialogue.
Do yourself a favor and buy this book!
Just what you'd expect a hero to be!.......2002-08-08
Engrossing! Captivating! I was intrigued by the main character's minute attention to every detail in the game of baseball. He used all of his senses to micro-analyze every aspect of hitting and fielding to become a great player. Like with other books, I kept waiting for the fatal flaw in Elgin, but was very pleased that he turned out to be a moral person as well as an excellent athlete. I HIGHLY recommend this book!

Didn't live up to my expectations.......2007-09-22
Written by Kathryn O'Brien and illustrated by Michael Garland, this is the boys' version of I'd Be Your Princess: A Royal Tale of Godly Character, winner of the Gold Medallion Award.
Similar to its counterpart, this book begins with a child's imagination. A young boy tells his mother: "If you were a queen, I'd be your hero." Together they imagine what the days would hold if they were royalty. They would explore kingdoms; enjoy jousting tournaments, big feasts and more. With each adventure, the mother encourages her son's imagination and reminds him of godly character traits. For example, when he says he will "stand guard in the tallest tower to ... make our castle secure," she affirms his strengths and declares "... because you are very brave." Her words are supported with Joshua 1:9 - "Do not be terrified ... for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
Scripture is quoted on nearly every page to reinforce the attributes of godliness. The virtues this book encourages include bravery, perseverance, skill, humility, wisdom, knowledge, strength, generosity and prayer.
The illustrations are full-page, saturated with color and sweet expressions.
What I Like: I love the gentle way the mother continually brings the conversation back to God and what He wants from us. It's a sweet guidance in training our children while letting their imaginations run wild. The plentiful Scriptural supports are fantastic, perfect for use as memory verses with young readers.
What I Dislike: I don't see little boys imagining these types of things. Instead of going to the marketplace or reading books in front of the fire, my son would rather be in a sword fight, chase a dragon or scale mountains. The book is sweet, but not near as good as I'd Be Your Princess: A Royal Tale of Godly Character. I think featuring more traditionally "heroic" activities (as the title suggests) would make the book better.
Overall Rating: Very Good.
Tanya -- Christian Children's Book Review
A great story........2005-09-12
I bought this book for my infant son, but my daughters wanted me to read it to them and they loved it. It's a great story to teach the character traits of Godly people and the illustrations are top notch. I recommend any parent of a 3-7 year old boy to consider this book. The scripture verses are a nice added benefit to back up the traits that are given reenforcing that God commands us to have those traits.
5 Stars for Christian picture book!.......2005-08-30
"I'd Be Your Hero" is beautifully illustrated. Not only that, it uses a little boys promises to his Mom, along with Bible verses, to teach Godly character. Wonderful!
Kristin Kirby-Austin, TX.......2005-08-11
This book truly is superb, and captured my son's heart in a multitude of ways. He wants me read it every day! The story-line is interesting, and the pictures detailed and vibrant. The author-Kathryn O'Brien has a real talent.
Another Treasure.......2005-03-19
This much anticipated 2nd title for O'Brien is also full of truly solid encouragement of character for every little hero ready to defend his castle. Garland's genius is remarkable! On the second page, his awesome illustration is SOOO designed for little boys!
The only drawback of this book is that it includes the father quite a bit, where I'd Be Your Princess left the mother out. I was expecting this book to be the ideal title for single mothers, but I'm afraid it must be designed with a whole family unit in mind. I wholeheartedly recommended it anyhow, because God is the Father to the fatherless, and the relationship between the boy and his father can easily be examined that way!
Good for mothers and sons of all ages.

A Terrific Blend of Mystery and Romance.......1998-10-04
Amanda Stevens' "The Hero's Son" is a great story that shows her flair for the genre. Thirty years ago, Valerie Snow's father was convicted of kidnapping and murdering three-year-old Adam Kingsley. Now, she's returned to Memphis to prove his innocence. The only man standing in her way is Brant Colter, the son of the man who arrested her father so long ago. Brant is also in charge of the local law enforcement, and seems unwilling to let her out of his sight... The mystery gets into high gear here, in the first book of Stevens' "Kingsley Baby" trilogy and never lets up. The twists and turns lead up to a suspenseful and satisfying ending (that still leaves room for the tale to continue in the next two books), and the love story between the two never disappoints. I especially loved a scene between Valerie and her father at the very end, which perfectly demonstrates what this book is: a great mystery with a lot of heart.
FANTASTIC!.......1998-06-26
This is the first in a trilogy called The Kingsley Baby, about the kidnapping of a young boy from a wealthy family. The whole series is absolutely fabulous! Don't miss it!

the time line is very confusing.......2005-02-23
The story is very well written, just the time line is a little confusing. Dr. Hunter in the book is supposed to be 31 years old, he's been practicing for quite a number of years. Should he be more like 41 than to be 31. In the story, he was supposed to have been married for 15 years if his wife didn't die 10 years ago. Did his parents really let him marry when he was 16? I'm just very confused about the whole time line. It didn't quite add up. The story is great.
Two doctors find love among the ruins!.......2003-01-05
Dr. Katherine Remson is summoned to Montebello after a terrorist bomb hits the small country. Pediatricians are in high demand as the resuce teams search for survivors. The fact that her best friend's father has requested her services makes the situation even more important to Katherine.
Dr. Elliot Hunter is at the absolute end of his endurance when his father summons him to Montebello. Elliot has been in terrible emotional agony since the loss of his wife and daughter some years ago. In the wake of his grief, he slept with his younger sister's best friend and broke her heart. Elliot is filled with self-loathing and is seriously considering taking his life when he is summoned to the foreign country.
When Kate discovers that Elliot is nearby, she is livid. She feels as if she has been set up by his family. As their attraction growns, Kate is mightily conflicted. Elliot is still in love with his dead wife and has made it very clear that there is no place for another woman in his life.
Ms. Detmer Riggs has a fantastic book here, rife with realistic emotions and healing heartbreak. The payoff was immensely satisfying. The only problem I had with the book was a minor one. The plot background was a little jarring and may have been ebtter served in a prequel of sorts.
Fabulous, as always!.......2001-08-02
Anyone who hasn't read a Paula Detmer Riggs novel is missing out! She is absolutely wonderful. The characters practically leap off the page, straight into your heart, especially her heroes. Where does she come up with all these sexy, absolutely divine men?
Kudos, Paula. I drooled over Taming the Night. You didn't disappoint me with this book. Definitely a must read and a keeper that you'll never forget. This lady is an amazing talent.

Amazing Books.......2005-05-25
I first came upon this series at my local library and fell in love with all three books instantly. Ten years later they still remain my favorite books and hold the most ceveted spot on my shelf. I highly recomend them to anyone and everyone. The story line is fantastic and carries smoothly through all three books. I love the main character Gil and enjoyed following his quests into Shelly's strange world. The story line is unique and perfect for anyone who enjoys fantasy novels and timetrael-esque books.
Original as it gets..........2004-10-27
Rick Shelly is masterful in this storytelling. I will always keep this trilogy around till they crumble to dust!
If you havent read them: your dumb. One of my favorite breaks from reality. will reread over and over, and force everyone I know to subject themselves to a slip into the unexpected.
Although written into a corner, I would love it if Mr. Shelly could find a way to bring life back to this idea. We need more in the essence of this first book. Where the other compliment it nicely I feel the first is the best.
Read this trilogy OVER and OVER!.......2003-11-23
I first stumbled across these books over a decade ago. Since then, I have read the series to myself several times. I have also read them outloud to my wife. (She loves my Uncle Parthet voice, ha!)
The author's writing style makes EXTREMELY easy and relaxed reading. A blend of wit, sarcasm, and action make the books FUN FUN FUN!
The story is interesting.
The characters are loveable!
Everything has its place.
I whole heartedly recommend this trilogy! My copies have been passed around among my friends - and everyone agrees - these are GREAT!
My wife is re-reading The Son of the Hero for the third time now!
In a word... Great!.......2000-05-26
I've read a lot of SciFi/Fantasy and this series is one of the best. Most of the books being written today have very predictable plot twists; not this one! I agree whole heartedly with the reader from Louisiana - Mr Shelley, please let us know what happens to Gil next!
If you can't find these books in your local used book stores, try Amazon's ... used book location service. I've had good luck with both.
Best Book Ever.......1999-09-29
this series is the best set of books I have ever read. I definatly reomend this to anyone who loves to read fantasy books!
Product Description
My Son, My Hero is the true account of 7 year old Michael James' brave battle with childhood cancer.
It follows the story through his father Kevin's eyes. Included are all of the highs and lows that are commonplace when battling cancer.
All facts are included, from the time of Michael's birth, to his first diagnosis at age 4, through his 2 year remission, then relapse and the road to bone marrow transplant. This book provides insight firsthand from the father who was with Michael constantly, is 100% true and is not embellished with any literary drama.
Also revealed are the positive actions of many people, and the mistakes and oversights of others. The book tries to bring the reader into the hospital rooms, where the reality of the unthinkable slowly becomes more and more real.
It is an emotional rollercoaster ride for the reader, and was a truly painful experience to create for the author and his wife. Michael was their only child born after 10 years of trying to conceive. He was valued and loved tremendously from the moment he arrived. Michael was a thoughtful and kind young man who touched and inspired everyone who knew him.
This book was never intended for the public. Kevin had 100 copies made to send to family, friends and supporters. Within weeks, Kevin was being urged by many to make the book available to all, as it was seen by many to be helpful to others. After months of thought, the parents were finally persuaded to publish.
Some of the Proceeds from this book will be donated to childhood cancer support organizations, as they were so kind and helpful to Michael and his family during their darkest times.
This is a very personal book that we hope will help the reader to see the things in life that are the most important.
Sincerely,
Kevin Smith

A Irish boy with a great heart .......2005-03-02
This book is about a Irish boy (Renny). Who is 13 and lives in an all irish mining camp with his da (dad), his mam (mom), and to sisters (Nora and Bridgey). One day whale Nora and Renny were at school a Chinese boy (zi) come in with Miss Maynerd (the owner of one of the gold mines). Miss Maynerd wants to get zi an eduction. the miners are outraged.
I liked the book because it showed me how hard it was back in there time, and how much race impacted there thought.
greatest bok eva!.......2004-05-07
It rocks! I mean there's Renny and his Da, Lon he has lots of problems at school because a chinaman comes and sits next to Renny at his desk, all Rennys best friends are turning againt him, his mother thinks he's to soft haerted and his Da, well lets just say that Lon and Renny have a long journey to cover and will meat many friends on the way. read this and you will never read anything better
A Different Kind of Hero.......2002-11-08
Do you love historical fiction books? If you do you should read A Different Kind of Hero. The book is about is about a boy named Zi who comes to a mining camp in Colorado.People at his school are treating him in a bad way. For instance,a boy named Finn beat up Zi on his first day of school. The main character Renny was nice enough to share his seat with him and walk him home so he wouldn't get hurt again. Will Renny be kicked out of town or will he become the town's hero? You're going to have to read the book to find out.
I liked the book because it shows friendship between Zi and Renny.I also liked the book because I love learning about the old days.Since the book was so good I'm going to read it again.
I think the author Ann was trying to tell us don't judge a book by its cover. In other words, don't judge a person by their looks.People in the camp were judging Zi and his family by their looks.
A Different Kind of Hero.......2000-06-13
A Different kind of Hero is middle school reading level book.It is about a 13 year old boy who lives in Colorado mining countryaround the early 1880's. The boy befriends a chinese boy who comes to the town with his father to be a house servant. This is in the runner of the towns house. There is lots of contraversy around the boy and his father. The white Irish boy goes against most of the town and more importantly his father. This story tests what a boy believes in, and his fathers love, and friendship.
A brave book!.......1999-12-28
This book is a great book. The boy did not obay his fater some times and and stod up to him. There is a sad part to this though. These people in the book did not like Chines people and were trying to kick all the Chines out of there land. Don't worry, it ends with a happy ending. So it you can take a little of happyness, sadness, and bravery I think this book is going to be great for you.

23 year survivor.......2004-07-30
I think this is a great book, now we just need a book on finances and how to plan for lifes events like college, buying a home, and retirement planning.
18 Year Survivor and Counting!!!.......2001-06-03
I am an 18 year survivor of Osteoganic Sarcoma and I found this book to be one of the best and informative books I've ever read. I read things that I didn't even know about my disease or the long term late effects due to the chemotherapy I received. I will admit, at times it was TOO much information, but it was all factual and there were things that I read that I had to come to term with. I have an appointment at a Late Effects Clinic in a few weeks, and I am eager to get on with the rest of my life. A big Thank You to the authors who took so much time doing research and putting their own blood, sweat and tears into such an awesome project!!! Sincerely, Diane Trautman Smith
Must Have Resource for Survivors!.......2001-04-03
This book is what every survivor, their parent(s) and thier doctor needs! It is comprehensive and well laid out...I love how I can easily find information on areas of concern I have regarding my son's survival. It has come in handy during follow up appointments to ensure my son is receiving the proper long term care. There is a compact card in the back of the book where all information about the child's treatment can be recorded so the child will have easy to access, concise information regarding their surgeries, chemotherapy drugs, radiation amount and type, etc. I know this will be an indispensible tool for my son as he grows up. I applaud the authors for writing a much-needed book. This book is a MUST-HAVE for EVERY childhood cancer survivor!
Childhood Cancer Survivors - a must read.......2001-03-29
Once again Nancy Keene provides information for patients and families that is just not available in this detail anywhere else. Her disease specific description of late effects and life after chemotherapy enables the reader to receive benefits that will effect for the rest of their lives. Information such as monitoring potential life threatening effects from treatment are just invaluable for the future of children surviving cancer and continuing into adulthood. I would urge any patient/parent/family member coming off active chemotherapy to pick up this book. Trust me you will have many, many book-marked pages. Our child just concluded his treatment and this book has not been very far from my side.
Excellent resource for childhood cancer survivors........2000-12-14
In my opinion, this book is a must for childhood cancer survivors. The late effects of chemotherapy and radiation last for years past treatment for the disease. My 20 year old son is a survivor of leukemia; I got a copy for him and a copy for me. All the information he will need for follow-up medical care is easily accessible in this well-organized book. As a parent, I like the book for the medical and psychological information it contains as well as for the personal stories interwoven throughout the book. Childhood cancer survivors are in a special medical situation in that when they were diagnosed, decisions about their medical were mediated by their parents, while after treatment, the young adult survivor must make his or her own health care choices. This book does a good job of addressing this transition.
