I love fantasy and magic. This book is chock full of that, with grown up love and plenty of action.
Love and Magic.......2000-09-03
A modern couple are stranded in a strange world somewhat like Regency London with magic. In this world, the couple becomes involved with a magician who is trying to gain power through a trip to the Labyrinth. An obsessed father weds his daughter to the magician, and all the characters take off to find the labyrinth. I find this story charming; the modern couple trying to survive in a strange world add an element of reality.

Real History can be fun.......2006-11-13
Book Synopsis: Lion Gate and Labyrinth
A great story of how archeologists actually found the location of Troy, where Homer's Iliad occured. Also, talks about how ancient about the discovery of the city where the Minotaur came from, and what the real Labyrinth was.
This book isn't historical fiction persay, but it is much like Baumann's other books historical fiction books. I love the way this book makes you feel like you are there witnessing the events as the happen.

Authors' Biography:
NOTE: THERE ARE 2 GERMAN AUTHORS NAMED HANS BAUMANN, the one who wrote historical fiction passed only wrote until 1970. Anything after this date is probably made by Hans Baumann the author who wrote colorful childrens books (in the same catagory as golden books), so be careful what you buy.
That said, there are about 8 to 9, books written by Hans Baumann, a German Historian and historical fiction writer for children (though his books are entertaining no matter what you age). His books are engrossing and enthralling, even though they have been translated into english from german.
Hans Baumann was a German Soldeir in WWII, and fought as a regular in Hilter's army. He was captured pretty early on in the war (germans often gave themselves up since allied prison camps were rumored as a fairly good place to stay), and spent the remainder of the war reading different historical novels. After the war he was released and began writing Historical Fiction novels. (Note: this biography is from memory, so I can't verify its total accuracy).
One of the things that really impressed me about Baumann, is that instead of creating a fictional main character for the plot (such as the adept young man, in all of the 100plus G.A. Henty novels, [Don't get me wrong I love Henty too]), Baumann uses a person who was actually there as the main character. But, he did write in enough of a fictional way that he would create conversions, and personalities, that while they might be inferred about the charector by historians, most likely never actually occured, (thus, the reason why his books are historical fiction, as opposed to pure history).

Customer Reviews:
Extensive information, but not great for a beginner.......2007-05-07
I was looking for a book that would give me some basic information on natural remedies for my baby. This book has been OK, but if I was really to follow it I would have to invest in building an entire cupboard of herbs and extracts, something I'm really not ready for.
For example, the remedy for the common cold involves combining up to 8 herbs/extracts, none of which I have or even have heard of. It is very detailed information, but too much for someone who is not ready to dive into the deep end of natural remedies.
Strange recipes.......2007-01-09
I expected to find ways of natural healing with common household ingredients, items. Instead, there were many natural healing recipes with very strange herbs & ingredients that I think are hard to find. It wasn't what I expected.
Well Organized Holistic Approach to Children's Health.......2006-11-05
Mary Bove has done a masterful job in creating a comprehensive resource for both parents and practitioners. Before subjecting your children to dangerous long-term medications, this book should be considered "first-line therapy." Parents should challange their children's doctors and practitioners should think about the consequences of the overuse of dangerous drug therapy. This book is a great place to start. Dr. Glenn Gero, Holistic Naturopathic Center
Excellent Resource for alternatives to prescriptions.......2005-10-15
I am not one of those people that boycotts medical doctors, but I do like to have alternatives to the overabundance of prescription medications out there. This book is great because it gives you information about all sorts of ailments, and different ways to treat them using natural products, as well as ways to measure how much to give to your children.
Great Info Taken with A Grain of Salt.......2005-09-30
This is a great book, but must be used with common "mommy" sense. Some of the things in the book will go against what your pediatrician will recommend, and thats fine, but you need to make a choice based on both sources of wonderful information to decide what is best for your child.
One thing that did really bother me is that there is a recipe for teething that involves honey-honey should NEVER be given to an infant under one year of age because it can be potentialy deadly. And since most babies begin teething between 6-9 months I was a bit upset that this risk was not mentioned.
The information on making infusions, oils and the like is great though. I would recommend the book to anyone who has common sense about herbs and has a desire to raise a child without the use of a lot of man made medicines.

Customer Reviews:
As Said On Title!! Easier than Easy!.......2006-10-07
I borrowed this book from the library and liked it so much that I'm planning to buy it for myself. This book is very well-written. The author wrote this book in a very easy to understand manner (in the layperson's language) so as not to do "analysis paralysis". Usually authors like to use fancy words and write out alot of unnecessary words to pad the pages, but this book was not that type of work, making it easier for me to read and enjoy. From reading this book, I was able to understand and learn not just how to make Chinese herbal medicine, but I received a lesson on the history and background of Chinese medicine as well. The author also gave 10 suggestions to improve one's health. Of course, the main juice of this book are the recipes for healing different types of illnesses, and these illnesses were sorted alphabetically so you can find them easily like a dictionary. I seriously recommend this book to those people who are learning about Chinese herbal medicine or who would like to have some Chinese herbal medicine formulas handy like a cookbook. Save money and get the paperback version instead.
very useful.......2002-02-02
Being a retired boxer/kickboxer and now in my 40's, I was looking for ways of keeping fit internally and seeking relief from the numerous aches and pains aquired while participating in extreame sports for so many years. This book not only provides many remedies for sports injuries, but for ailments of all kinds. I especially like the way he translates the chinese herbs into botanical language as many of the herbs can be found in our own health food stores.
The only slight complaint is that he doesn't say much about our own american ginseng as it is highly valued by the chinese.
Otherwise I find it to be highly informative for both the novice and advanced student of the ways of herbal healing.
Deep bow.
well written, good info........2001-07-09
this was a really good book. It gave herbal remedies for illnesses, and also gave the symptoms for those illnesses. This book acted as two books; it gave info on illnesses, AND the herbal formulas to correct those illnesses. my only problem with this book is that in the index, it gives an illness, and then says: see so and so. This is good, but then it gives you a page number. You turn to that page, and there is no info on the illness there, except a little thing saying, illness-see another illness. while this is a little annoying, you have to put up with it, because this book is worth it. Great job!
Good guide for herbs, and good information about illnesses........2001-07-02
Hey! This was a great book. Not only because it gives lots of chinese herbal cures to the ilnesses talked about in it, but because it gives symptoms for all those diseases. This book was a relly good guide to staying aware of health. I had never even considered Chinese herbs as effective medicine before i red this book, but now i know better. good job Richard.
this book is great and should be read by all who want an alternative to Western Medicine!
