Jerry Garcia, the lead guitarist, singer, and alleged leader of the Grateful Dead, became an icon of the 60s youth movement. It was well-known that Jerry was a huge fan, and probably considered himself a player, of old-time American music, from mountain fiddle and banjo music, to English ballads, to jug band music to bluegrass and blues, and more. On the "Shady Grove" recordings one can hear the deep commitment, respect, and love Jerry had for this traditional American music. He's very faithful to the original artists' music. That may be surprising if you expect more of an ego-driven "my version" approach from one the biggest rock stars ever. What you have here is a vibrant collection of wonderful traditional American songs, from a great variety of genres, played in a style closely based on their traditional sources. Of course within those parameters we hear wonderful and personal readings of the tunes from both Jerry and mandolinist David Grisman. Dix Bruce has carefully transcribed many of Jerry's solos from the album, trying to determine not just what he was playing but how he was playing it. Melodies, tablature, lyrics, and chords are included in arrangements designed to be playable on the guitar while presenting the melodies as closely as possible. Jerry's banjo solos are transcribed here for guitar.

Amanda what happened???? I can only conclude that it must have been her evil twin that wrote this book. Its horrible! Please, please PLEASE! don't read this book if you've never read a Quick historical before because you'll never read any of her books again. The hero and heroine are both not likeable and the romance stinks big time! The 'love' scenes are horrible! To quote one of my favorite romances " there's not enough heat between these two to light a candle". I can't believe there's a sequel!
Do yourself a favor and read instead Quick's:
Mystique
Desire
Mistress
Ravished
These are great books and show what Quick is really capable of.
Slightly Shady.......2004-06-01
I have been an avid fan of Amanda Quick every since I picked up my first historical romance and it was her Ravished. She hooked me with that book. I had never read one before and though they were all silly books. Harriet and Gideon are such great characters. Reading Ravished made me want to go out in search of anything else she had written. After scouring used book shops, books stores, etc. I have most of them and still reread them on a regular basis. When I need a really good read I pull out an Amanda Quick. Unfortunately, all of her books since Slightly Shady cannot compare to those older books - Surrender, Desire, Seduction, etc.... I hope she can find in her writing more characters with that fire, humour, etc... that make you want to keep on reading, keep you cheering for the heroine or hero. If you want a really good book - pick up anything Amanda Quick before Slightly Shady. You won't regret it.

It started so well. It was funny. The characters were likeable. Tobias and Lavinia are displaying some attraction for one another. Then . . . there's the painfully predictable "carriage" scene. The murder plot became so convoluted in its solution, I feared I'd be confessing next. By the time the second short, choppy, terribly unromantic love scene rolled around, I'd literally forgotten I was reading a romance. Tobias, likeable fellow, came off as a rather inept detective. I'm glad I checked this out of the library instead of buying it.

This is my first Amanda Quick book, I've heard so much about her, and read her reviews on my favorite books that I tried one of her books. For me, Slightly Shady is the kind of book that u can read when there's nothing more available. It's not boring nor it is hooking. This is one of those books that u can put down after reading a paragraph or so. It is not laugh out loud funny but u can see the author's attempt on comedy. The mystery is a little predictable. The twist on the ending is not original. All in all, I'm not totally disappointed. From reading her other reviews in her other novels, I know this is not her best, so I'm giving her another chance.

This book was good although I got sort of tired of the book after a while you have to finish it. It is a classic Amanda Quick book. And I am planning to read the other books that go along with it. It very much indeed is light reading. Yet each character has there own spark, the main girl just kinda got annyoing though.

Don't get me wrong, I am a huge Dre and Eminem fan but this book isn't worth your money. It has little to no new information for fans who have spent a little bit of time and surfed the web for bios and such. For those who say this book is great because Dr. Dre is one of the best rappers on the planet, they are mistaken. Dr. Dre is not a rapper, he is a producer. I'm not dissing Dre and Eminem, but this book is poorly conducted, any 7th grader with the internet could have thrown this together in about a month or so. Save your money and read something informative.

I gave this book two stars because I think that the author could have done a better job writing it and looking for information. Although she tells the facts, the writing is too [disappointing]. The pictures in the middle are excellent, though. A little more effort and this book could have been excellent. Dr.Dre's story has a lot of interesting details, same as Eminem's.

I love Em and this book made me love him more. Read it and you will fall in love with him if you haven't already. It talks about how he started out and what he was like as a teenager and how he keeps it real and is not a fake. The pictures are so hot. It also tells you all about Dr. Dre and Snoop Doggy Dogg and a bunch of other rappers and that's good. But I love Eminem Marshall Mathers because he is the prince of hip-hop and I can't wait for his movies. He's gonna be the best actor Hollywood has ever seen. They might erase this but I hope he dosen't get back with Kimberly because I would marry him. When I read the book I pretended I was his girl and he was happy about that.

This is an excellent book. It's the only one out on Dre and the best one out on Eminem. If you want to know everything about two of the most talented rappers on the planet, get it. Nuff said.

What we eat DO reflect how our body function. Everything that we eat wrong will accumulate into a life of illness and disease. This book details a change of nutrition venue that can literally change the health of your life. Today's society is consuming high levels of toxic chemicals from pesticides to drug-infested meats. I have followed the recommended change in my daily food choices and my (migraine)headaches and sinus allergies are gone! I've started my children on this healthy diet as well.
If you have any cancer or disease, this change will definitely give you a new outlook in life.
