Book Description
Favorite recipes and anecdotes from the co-author of the Mrs. Murphy Mysteries.
Sneaky Pie Brown, co-author of such irresistible Mrs. Murphy mysteries as
Murder on the Prowl, dishes up delectable fare for cats and humans alike in this unique collection of recipes spiced with witty personal anecdotes, including glimpses of life with co-author Rita Mae Brown.
What do you serve when a kitty is bored with all the old standbys? Since cookbooks are written by humans for humans, Sneaky Pie Brown has produced a cookbook with appeal for fastidious felines, including such treats as Veal Kidney and Salmon Pie.
Ever the thoughtful hostess, Miss Pie has also included plenty of recipes to accommodate the visiting human or finicky dog. There's Mother's Fried Chicken, Christmas Goose, Big Dog's Delight, and, of course, Mrs. Hogendobber's Orange Buns, the very thought of which makes Mrs. Murphy fans' mouths water.
Throughout there are also delightfully illustrated anecdotes for those Sneaky Pie fans eager to learn more about the dashing author. She even spills the beans about what happened to Rita Mae's brand-new pickup when a neighbor came calling with his goat.
For cats and cat lovers, this book combines real and tasty recipes with the same droll humor that made one reviewer declare, "As feline collaborators go, you couldn't ask for better than Sneaky Pie Brown, the canny tiger cat" (
The New York Times Book Review).

Great book for non-cooks!.......2004-03-27
I hate to cook. That said, I loved making the recipes in this book not only for myself but for the critters whom I serve as household help. The recipes are easy, non-time consuming, and my mother nearly fainted when I told her I made them all by myself.
The anecdotes are wonderful, especially the goat story.
This book shouldn't be called a cookbook.......2003-04-21
What a waste of a cookbook. If you want a great cookbook look at Lilian Jackson Braun's coookbook. I got Sneaky Pie's cookbook from the library and I am thankful I didn't waste the money on it. Most of the recipes were for food for pets. I guess Rita Mae Brown was trying to compete with Lilian Jackson Braun. If you are going to buy one cookbook from a mystery write buy Miss Braun's.
Sneaky Pie needs to take this book and bury it in the litterbox
bad karma.......2002-08-20
Brown has got to be kidding on this one. Who in their right mind is going to take this seriously?
This alley cat needs her distemper shot........2001-10-28
I have read this "cookbook" courtesy of the local library. The book is over rate and overly priced. Since Miranda Hogendobler is the resident cook in this series one would think this volume would inundate us with the recipes for all the goodies she provides Harry and the others. But it doesn't. What a rip-off.
Since this "cookbook" claims to follow the 7th volume in the Murphy "lexicon" perhaps it is at best premature. Rita should have waited until after she had 15 or 20 Murphy mysteries under her belt before providing her fans with such nonsense. And exactly who does Rita think she is kidding by having the book printed in hard to read blue ink?
My favorite Easter present.......2001-04-17
I received this book as an Easter present from my 3 little cherubs, Errol, Lucy and Troi. Errol and Lucy are cats who were rescued from the same animal shelter when they were babies. Troi was a gift from my father. She's a Shetland Sheepdog. They, and I, feel that this is a wonderful cookbook and story. I've tried many of the recipes and have found each one of them to be delicious and easy to prepare. I've prepared some of the recipes and shared them at family functions. My family and friends love the recipes. It's nice to find a cookbook that includes recipes appropriate for my 3 little ones. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves animals and loves to cook.

Many friends have borrowed this book.......2003-03-27
It is an excellent book and many friends have borrowed it and bought their own copies.
One warning.
There are two chapters that hit a nerve with some people. Number one is the chapter on abortion. If you know anyone who has had one they immediately put the book down and have nothing but bad things to say about it, irregardless of the other chapters. The other subject is homosexuality. If you have any friends who are gay or believe that gays are victims they will shut down and discount the book entirely.
I almost wish I could remove those chapters for those individuals so they wouldn't lose their objectivity.
Revisionist History - A Book Full of LIES.......2003-02-03
This was a book full of lies. Revisionist historians like Moore only write to promote their agenda, which is the theocratization of this country.
You want to know what our forefathers thought, what they intended for this country? Read the debates from the Constitutional Convention, the Federalist Papers, The Anti-Federalist Papers. Read the biographies and collections of letters of these great men. Don't get your history filtered through the opinions and lies of a zealot like Moore.
Reading things like this, that contradict mainstream thought and reinforce religious ideology, I know, makes readers feel special, like they know something that the rest of poor, deluded American society doesn't. They are wrong. And so is Moore.
Sorry, it doesn't cut it sometimes........2001-09-03
Well, i can say that this is a good book. It has SOME good info in it. However, some of what seems to be the best info seems to be from sources that are quite possibly highly biased. It definitely tells truths, but sometimes they turn out to be half truths. I think if you are considering buying the book, go ahead and buy it. But when you find a good argument make sure to check the sources to make sure you don't come of sounding like an idiot :) Make the decision for yourself.
Excellent.......2001-01-04
I read this book when I first started going to college, at a time when I was questioning my faith because of the incessant secularism I was bombarded with from professors. Reading this book helped me settle my heart about my faith by showing me that the secular academic onslought of ideas that I was drowning in was not well-established, objective, scientific truth, but rather a highly biased, one-sided version of events. Whether regarding American history, the sexual revolution, homosexuality, entertainment, or even law, David T. Moore helped me see that Christians need not accept their beliefs solely "on faith," but that faith can be reasonable, too. His chapter on evolution was especially insightful for me, for it showed me that in spite of all the gobbly-de-gook that professors were shoving down my throat, it was actually more reasonable for me to believe in a Divine Creator than it was to assume that my entire existence was nothing more than a cosmic accident which occurred in a puddle of slime millions of years ago. This book showed me that not even science is above politics and moral agendas. David T. Moore's book was an excellent introduction for me to the culture war that has corroded American society.
The Truth Will Set You Free.......2000-03-31
A very well researched book that provides christians withamunition to fight against the lies of evolution, sex, family, entertainment, and America's providential history. This book was very easy to read and contains great quotes. Moore gives truths and evidence for his convictions. He tackles very controversial issues like homosexuality, abortion, and the entertainment industry with a great deal of class and boldness. A book every American should read.

no news is not good news.......2007-08-23
This book is outrageously wasteful. Anyone who is likely to be interested in this topic will, in all likelihood, NOT believe these "myths." The issues presented are 1950's racist myths that no upstanding U.S. citizen would think hold any water. Anyone who might still put weight in these myths will NEVER purchase this book.
Provocative Reading.......2005-08-02
Thank you so much, Mr. Taylor, for debunking so many of the myths our young people now believe. Your book has been the basis of many lively discussions with friends of diverse cultural backgrounds. The documentation you provide in the book is a helpful tool when challenging the racial stereotypes that ofen exist in today's society.
Looking forward to the next book!
Excellent..........2005-04-20
Mr. Taylor, keep the words coming. The attitudes that those in power have rammed down our throats is intolerable. Bravo for your words, bravo sir.....
A Good Learning Tool.......2002-03-02
I plan to save my autographed book for the reading pleasure of my granddaughters who are likely to be conditioned by today's society of hearing (and not whinnying) at the everyday usage occurrences of this infamous and unflattering word.

Book Description
The baptismal covenant, empowering all the baptized to minister in the name of Christ, is at the heart of our lives as Christians. But how well do parishes articulate the importance of this call for all their members? What kind of job do parishes do of integrating the covenant into the life and work of the congregation?
In Do You Believe?, author Nancy Ann McLaughlin takes a look at some forty Episcopal parishes around the country to see just what an active, intentional, energized awareness of baptismal ministry looks like. Examining each of the elements of the covenant-from believing in God to continuing the preaching of the apostles - the book offers practical advice for turning words into concrete actions.
This is an excellent book for parish study and reflection, offering ways that individuals and congregations can envision the church-and their own lives - as a dynamic relationship with God.

A Receipe for Empowerment.......2007-01-19
This is a must read for people concerned about declining attendance in our churches. All are called to ministry, not just the laity. Mclaughlin gives practical ways in how we can live into the baptismal covenant. This book is more than presenting a theological concept, the baptismal covenant is at the heart of the Christian message. I am now using the book as a topic for Rector's Forums.
Every priest should read this.......2006-08-31

Book Description
DO YOU BELIEVE IN EVIL?Rose Early is searching for her missing sister Joan. The only clue she has is a horror novel with her sister's notes in the margins. The author of the book lives only a few minutes away and Rose can't resist seeking him out. She understands why his book affected her sister: the author creates an evil so palpable it shakes even skeptical Rose. Vic Drummond, the writer, knew Rose's sister, and agrees to help Rose find her; Rose expected him to be reclusive and strange, but she didn't expect him to be quite so . . . attractive. As their search intensifies, Rose finds herself inexorably drawn to Vic, but it seems to Rose that their feelings for each other are being influenced by some outside force-she knows love at first sight doesn't exist. As they come closer to finding Joan, Rose and Vic journey from the local church to a mysterious sex club whose members dress in demon costumes. The more they learn about what Joan was doing in the days before her disappearance, the more questions they have, until Rose must decide: Does she believe in real evil? And does she believe in real love?
Customer Reviews:
An OK read, but utterly forgetable.......2006-12-31
Since the plotline has been synopsized to death by other reviewers, I'll spare you that and go right into what I found to be the downfalls of this merely average story.
First off, the first two-thirds of the story just meander--read plod with agonizing slowness--along without saying much of anything. The two main protagonists meet, and not a very stellar first meeting at that, and within a very short time, even by romance standards seem to fall into bed together...a lot...and more often than not don't even make it to the bed. Now that's not necessarily a bad thing, but there wasn't really a whole lot of romance about it, just a thin plot thread, very weakly explained by blaming much of their lust on the inherent evil they're up against, to push the two of them together.
Secondly, what was up with Vic constantly calling Rose 'mate'? Yes, it's a way of saying 'friend,' but really, couldn't Ms. Lawrence invest in a thesaurus and shake things up a little? I know I'm sounding exceedingly petty here, but it really got monotonous over the long haul, especially since they were shagging their little hearts out every couple of pages it seemed and yet there he was calling her 'mate'. Considering the nature of their relationship, her name or even some sort of endearment would have seemed much more appropriate.
And lastly, most of the other characters in the book just seemed to blend together, I wasn't always sure who did what or who was talking to who, and what's more, I couldn't bring myself to care. The book jumped around from different characters/ situations and dropped little blurbs to keep reminding you that the tapestry in the church was bad, and so, most likely, was everyone who attended the church on a regular basis.
Now, other than all that, it's a really quick read, if you don't mind plodding through the early part or choosing to do as I did and start scanning through the really dull, redundant parts. I did find the climax to be entertaining, but when I closed the book I knew I'll most likely forget everything about it within a few days.
Too slow........2005-06-02
I love supernatural books (horror, supernatural thrillers, some romantic supernatural books like Barbara Michaels). This book was about 90% romance and 10% paranormal. It took 200 pages to get going. And after that point it was 90% sex, 5% romance, 5% paranormal. She could have cut 200 pages easily and made it an interesting read. The pace was too slow, nothing happened for half the book, and I was so bored by the end, I truly didn't care what happened to any of the characters.
Different type of Ann Lawrence.......2005-05-17
If you are looking for the Ann Lawrence of LORD OF THE MIST, LORD OF THE HUNT, VIRTUAL DESIRE OR VIRTUAL WARRIOR this in not her. I adored the above titles but this is a different type of novel. I am not saying it is not good just not as good as those others. This is more of a gothic type romance.
Rose Early has come to England to find her sister Joan who has gone missing. Both are photographers, Joan is compiling a book about the churches in England. Rose arrives in Marleton Village to find that her sister has not been seen in several days.
Vic Drummond is a writer, he lives in Marleton and has had a few interludes with Joan. But after he meets Rose he realizes she is not like her sister. Eventually he falls in love with Rose as they hunt for her sybling.
There seems to be a great deal more going on in the church than prayers. The ghosts of monks appear to Rose and she begins to see evil in and around the vicar, curate, and several members of the parish. Something evil is in the church and has set its thoughts on Vic. Togather they must fight against the evil not only in the church but in themselves.
This was an OK read, Vic and Rose seemed to fall into bed alot and the pace was alittle slow. However, the last few chapters went faster and finally explained what was going on. NOt one of her best but not the worst either, if you like Gothic, you will probably enjoy it.
Super Natural Romance + Thriller.......2005-05-06
Rose Early owns "Early Photography" in Pennsylvania, USA. Her sister, Joan, specializes in coffee table books. Last heard, Joan was in the English Cotswolds, a quiet Marleton village. Joan's current project is a book on religious art, commissioned by the Cotswolds Diocese of the Church of England. All was fine until Joan's emails became strange and then ceased all together. Rose travels to England, worried about her sister, but Joan has disappeared. Knowing that Joan met with the famous horror writer, V.F. "Vic" Drummond, Rose begins her search with him.
Vic and Rose become a couple, but he is lying (by omission) when it came to what Joan was doing whenever he met with her. But the truth will come out, sooner than expected. The local residents protect their own and keep Rose at bay until Vic shows everyone how much he has come to care for Rose. Then they embrace Rose into their shops, pubs, and town. However, the church is a different story.
Rose and Vic soon discover that Joan had been fascinated by All Saints Church, which dominates the village, and the famous tapestry that resides within it. But something totally evil also dwells in All Saints Church. Something that has slowly seeped into every stone and crevice over the last thirty years. It affects everyone that enters its doors ... and it is now spreading outside the church, even into London! Rose and Vic cannot dismiss all the eerie things that are happening, no matter how much they wish they could. Dark dreams leave scratch marks upon them that never seem to heal. (Something right out of an "Elms Street" movie.) Vic's deceased aunt keeps typing messages in his current book's file. No matter how many times Vic deletes the texts, they keep coming back. But the worst things are the demons with the red, glowing eyes!
**** This combines many genres. I noticed Super Natural Romance, Thriller, and Horror mostly. About half way in, the love scenes begin and they are H-O-T, very explicit! Consider yourself warned. Quite a bit of English slang is used. Most of it is used in such a way that readers who do not live in England will still easily understand what is being said. For example, the slang "not on" means "wrong". However, once or twice I found myself unsure. Do I recommend this novel? Oh yes! To fans of many genres, especially Dark Romance. This work of art may keep you awake at night. ****

strong supernatural romantic suspense thriller .......2005-05-04
Pennsylvanian Rose Early is in Marleton Village, the last known address of her missing sister Joan, a photographer who recently vanished while on assignment for the Cotswolds Diocese of the Church of England. Rose's only clue to find her sister is Joan's copy of Do You Believe in Evil, a horror novel written by local author Vic Drummond. She visits Drummond's home, but he pretends to be the gardener and blows her away.
Vic is impressed with Rose's persistence and decides to help her find her sister. As the Yank and the Brit investigate, both reconsider whether evil exists because something is not right in the remote sleepy village especially with the local All Saints Church; all who enter suffer nightmares and physical emanations. Whatever is inside is beginning to get outside. As Rose and Vic become believers, they also reassess the existence of love at first sight for that is the only weapon they have found so far to counter the malevolence that is spreading beyond the village.
Readers will believe in Ann Lawrence's talent as the author effortlessly combines a heated contemporary romance with a supernatural thriller that grips the audience once Vic agrees to help the obstinate American. The relationship between the lead couple is cleverly set up so that the attraction starts early (no pun intended) but his secret about her sister that he hides from her becomes critical later; to survive evil she must trust in their love even though she learns he hid things from her. The essence to trust or not to trust makes this a strong supernatural romantic suspense thriller that never slows down until the final confrontational rites occur.

Platypus Paradise, Cheese Rolling, And The World Stinging Nettle Challenge.......2006-07-27
If you are into events and places that are severely off the beaten path, this is the tour guide for you. This is a collection of some of the most unusual places to stay, festivals, sights, sounds, and diversions that any tourist would be interested in encountering. I gave it four stars due to the relatively limited geographic area that it covers (undoubtedly the area of expertise of the authors.) It focuses heavily on places in Australia, while the United States and United Kingdom are also somewhat represented; other places are definitely covered in less detail, though they have some of the loopiest destinations.
The places in this book are just wonderful to behold. You can stay at a platypus sanctuary, participate in extreme underwater ironing (these people, called "ironists," take their irons and ironing boards underwater and photograph themselves ironing; nobody knows why,) you can get utterly filthy going bog snorkeling, an annual event in Wales' smallest town, Llanwrtyd Wells, you can attend cockroach, cane toad, lizard, sheep, or cow races, and visitors to the Wooli Sportsground (in Australia, naturally) can engage in the famous "Goanna Pulling Festival."
While I find all of these interesting, there are also many fine sleeping accommodations ranging from lighthouses, to icehouses, to an underground complex favored by fourth century Turks (the famed Yunak Evleri, Urgrup in Cappadocia Turkey.) For those of you really into unusual place names, there are directions for finding the easy to spell towns of "Y" (in both Alaska and France,) and "A" (in the Lofoten Islands, north of Norway.) There are also directions for finding the town with the longest name, the breathtakingly named (60-letter) Welsh village of "Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyll-llantysiliogogogoch."
This is a great book on the eccentricities of travel; while I wish it were a bit more comprehensive in geographic coverage, it is still well worth a read. I recommend it without reservation.
