Book Description
Once on the fast track to success, Helen Hawthorne is now going nowhere fast. She traded in her chic life for a shabby one. And now she's on the run, jumping from city to city and dead-end job to dead-end job, trying to stay one step ahead of her past...
After two weeks as the new salesclerk at Juliana's, Fort Lauderdale's ultra-exclusive clothing boutique, Helen still feels out of fashion. And since the only crime likely to be committed around here is being old-or worse, looking old-Helen figures she's safe. Until she discovers the manager has been embezzling money and selling designer drugs along with the designer clothes. Add murder to the mix-and Helen's dead-end job is downright deadly.

brand new world out there.......2007-08-01
This gave me some insight into the world of truly desperate housewives. Reminds me of the days when it was every Mother's goal to see her daughter married to a doctor. The story line here was "Do whatever it takes to snag a rich man and live the good life.....without working or earning money, of course."
Where is the humor?.......2007-05-14
I am a mystery reader --- I love writers like Mary Jane Clark. I read the teaser notes on the cover and expected this book to be funny as well as a good mystery read. I don't see the humor ---- nothing about the story is funny --- and the characters aren't developed enough to connect with the reader. The past life of Helen is not spelled out enough from the beginning. We get bits and pieces throughout the book, and we just kind of guess what happened to her to put her in her current straits. I know this is Ms. Viets's first book, and I plan to read her most recently published in the hopes it is better --- but my first exposure didn't quite make the grade.
I love the Dead End series!.......2006-11-02
I've read all the Dead End series by Elaine Viets, and I hope she keeps writing them! They're all so different and fun--I have to admit this book has been my favorite so far. I love Phil the Invisible Pothead, and the landlady, and of course, the heroine's apartment. I want to live there with Thumbs!
best book i've ever read!!!!!.......2005-10-18
thos book is amazing! i like murder mysteries and this book had several murders , one, after another and thats what i like. but if your someone who doesnt like murders or to many murders with the details then this is not the book for you.
A Barrel of Fun.......2005-10-18
What a great idea to have a sub-genre called a "dead-end job mystery" so named by the publisher. This young woman Helen, leaves her old life when she discovers her husband cheating on her. She escapes from her St. Louis troubles and heads for Florida, starting a new life working as a low paid sales clerk in a clothing boutique for wealthy women. She gets quickly enmeshed in her new life, working at the Juliana's clothing shop and living at the Coronado, a quirky Florida rental complex where she has taken residence in a retro-furnished apartment. The apartment is replete with lonely women, weird men, and includes conmen, a pothead, and other varieties of men for Helen to try and fulfill her new needs for love in all the wrong places. Also at the clothing shop, she encounters a myriad of shop-happy lost souls, while uncovering crimes all around her. This is a tale of beginning a new life, while solving a mystery. I liked the book. It had character, and characters.

I liked it because it was long if you start on floor 1. You have to do a weird and scary type of scavenger hunt. You have to get one thing from each floor. Floor 1 you have to get a man's leg, floor 2 poisonous purfume, floor 3 the heart attack backpack, floor 4 baby booties, floor 5 a silver arrow, floor 6 volcano steam, and floor 7 the final showdown.

Kabugies have personality; some are feisty, witty and adventurous. Travel with them to see the world through their eyes. The series often incorporate a moral in the story beneficial to growing children. You will enjoy reading them over and over!
Book Description
Dr Lincoln sees three main factors contributing to the Pauline picture of heaven: Paul's Jewish conceptual background and knowledge of Old Testament and other traditions about heaven; the effect on that inherited background of Paul's encounter with the risen Saviour and his later visions and revelations of the heavenly Christ; and his apostolic task in moulding the thought and practice of the converts in the churches for which he felt responsible, countering what lie considered to be distorted views or false options. The author analyses passages in Paul's letters where the concept of heaven plays a significant role, and discusses the relation of the concept to the background of his thought, his views of history, of the cosmos, of the destiny of humanity, and of the nature of Christian existence. As a uniquely full treatment of a neglected aspect of Paul's thought this monograph makes an important and contemporarily relevant contribution to New Testament studies.

Book Description
Here is a new collection from a veteran SF storyteller. In thirteen deceptively simple-seeming tales William Sanders examines such matters as time, mortality, military folly, and the ethnic minority situation in Alaska as considered by a Bigfoot bush pilot. From the outrageous "Looking For Rhonda Honda" to the heartbreaking "Jennifer, Just Before Midnight," from the farcical "Acts" to the almost unbearably bleak "He Did The Flatline Boogie And He Boogied On Down The Line," there is something here for every taste and every mood. One of the stories in this collection, "Empire," won the Sidewise Award for Alternate History; another, "Dry Bones," was a finalist for the Nebula Award.
Customer Reviews:
IS IT NOW YET? DELIVERS.......2006-03-26
Another great collection. Take the time to read this or any of his other alternate/sci-fi/mystery novels or shorts.
Is It Now Yet? It is, indeed........2005-10-27
_Is It Now Yet?_ is Sanders' second - and possibly final - collection of stories, a companion to his earlier _Are We Having Fun Yet?_. With thirteen stories in just under 250 pages, including the Nebula-nominated "Dry Bones" (his favorite among his own stories) and the Sidewise-winning "Empire," Sanders shows his usual skill and deftness at extrapolating from changes in historic events, especially with "Billy Mitchel's Overt Act." Emotionally, it moves from the heartbreaking and lovely "Jennifer, Just Before Midnight" to the tragic and slightly bitter "He Did the Flatline Boogie and He Boogied On Down the Line," one of the finest music-themed fantasies I've ever read. Not that he's all about serious introspection; the boistrously funny "Acts" and the less obvious, but nonetheless witty "At Ten Wolf Lake" rate high on my Zany-O-Meter.
With a book like this, it's tempting to simply say "there's something for everyone," and as far as it goes, that's certainly true enough. Problem is, it doesn't go far enough. Sanders is a fine craftsman, not a machine; a sculptor in words, with each piece finished and polished to just the proper texture and sheen. If Stevie Ray Vaughan was a guitarist's guitarist, then Sanders is a writer's writer, capable of not only verbal pyrotechnics but nuance and subtlety as well. This is rare in a field filled to bursting with media tie-ins and derivitive multi-volume fantasy bricks.
Sanders has announced his retirement from writing, and this may indeed be his last collection of stories. If you know his work already, this review has been unnecessary; if you don't, or are undecided, let me assure you that there is no way these stories can disappoint you.

Book Description
In his column that appeared in the Times on the morning of September 11th, 2001, Michael Gove prophetically argued that the West’s policy of appeasement towards terror would provoke yet greater atrocities. In Celsius 7/7 (named for the date of London’s subway and bus bombings), Gove goes farther still, exploring the sources of Islamic rage, the historical factors that culminated in the current terrorist campaign, and the Muslim world’s troubled relationship to modernity. He also analyzes the intellectual roots and political appeal of Islam and contextualizes today’s fundamentalist challenge. Combining a broad historical sweep with character sketches of key figures such as Donald Rumsfeld, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, and Osama bin Laden, Gove offers a shrewd, detached analysis with powerfully convincing recommendations for future action.

Drills down the issues and gets to the point.......2007-09-24
Now a member of British Parliament, Michael Gove brings his political expertise and writing skills honed as a journalist to play in this 138 page "drilling down" of the Islamofascism vs the West, Israel & the moderate mainstream Islamic World into easily understood concepts, problems and responses.
Background, situation analysis, response planning ... all that remains s the call to action - which has to come from the readers.
A good read, insightful, positive and bellweather clear in describing the solutions to the terrorism threats we face today.

Book Description
Deliverance Now and Not Yet follows Albert Schweitzer's view of mystically dying with Christ and Merkabah mysticism at Qumran to propose that the New Testament pictures Christ's atonement with mystical implications. These pictures set up three forms of New Testament eschatology: consistent, inaugurated, and realized. With regard to the relationship of the Church and the Great Tribulation: (1) Paul and John present deliverance now (realized eschatology), and (2) the rest of the New Testament presents deliverance not yet in two categories-(2a) Mark, James, Peter, and Jude present deliverance not yet (consistent), and (2b) Matthew, Luke-Acts, Hebrews, and Revelation portray deliverance as now and not yet (inaugurated eschatology). Taken together, the Christian's experience of the Messianic woes and mystical expression of the Kingdom prompts us to long deeply for the climactic expression of the Kingdom of God.

Book Description
Nine out of ten young women say they’re hoping for marriage,
but three out of ten women are still single at thirty.
The difference between life here and life hoped for can be disillusioning–and cultural changes have made single life in the twenty-first century more confusing than ever. Now and Not Yet offers guidance for navigating this new territory with purpose and contentment. Combining profiles of individual women, observations on today’s culture, and spiritual insights, author Jennifer Marshall presents a unique perspective on the single woman’s journey.
Make sense of life in the gap between expectations and reality
Singleness may be an unexpected in-between, but it’s much more than a holding pattern. Now and Not Yet is about making the most of the time between now and the not yet for which so many women hope.
Customer Reviews:
Not your everyday Christian singles book.......2007-08-28
I once worked for Jennifer Marshall (full disclosure), so I knew she was smart, articulate, and sincere! But I was still pleasantly surprised by the depth of her insights in this book. This is not your everyday "Christian single ladies' manual." Jennifer takes an honest, clear-eyed look at the gap between where so many of us are and where we had expected and hoped to be, and the struggles we face while trying to make a life in that place. (Am I where I should be? How do others see me? What adjustments will I need to make if the opportunity for family life comes along?) And she offers wise and compassionate guidance on how to live a balanced and fruitful life no matter where we find ourselves, even as we work on preparing ourselves for what might be coming. She also does a great job of helping defuse today's version of the war between the sexes by explaining how we see each other, and what factors distort that view and cloud our judgment. A must-read, not just for single women (and men too), but for anyone trying to understand the new and strange landscape both single and married people are facing today.
Your First Purpose.......2007-07-22
I'm not in Kansas anymore either, Toto. This book re-emphasized that the easy-dating-evolving-into-marriage decade is history (for now) and that I, as a parent from that era, am inexperienced in delivering firsthand knowledge of "what you should do today" if you are single. Bottom line: Your calling is not something you wait for, but the something that is at hand today. If you are a single, Christian woman following your main purpose to reflect Christ, then consider that God is using you to be single for now, for HIS highest glory. It's not Plan A or Plan B marriage scheming that is profitable, but Plan G, the God Plan, that is pertinent. What a great way to assess your spiritual agreement with God. It's a valuable test for your TRUE, spiritual ambition.
Validating and Encouraging.......2007-07-13
Jennifer Marshall provides an honest and insightful look at the young, single woman. She met me where I am and where so many of my friends are too. I did not finish the book anxiously awaiting the arrival of my prince charming, but rather hopeful of the plans the Lord has for my life, whatever they may be. The identifiable testimonies of so many women from across the country are both validating and encouraging. Marshall's illustrations and Biblical context challenged me to see my life from many different perspectives. It is an important read for any single woman (or single woman's mother). Our lives are purposeful, and we should live them with intentionality and balance no matter the season.
