An excellent analysis of the air war in Vietnam.......2000-04-25
I found this book to be an excellent study of the air war in Vietnam. It focuses both on the technology employed during the war and how it was used. It is further enhanced by personal stories from former pilots, which adds much to the overall story. The reader can gain much insight from this book, and it is highly recommended.

Book Description
Perhaps the ultimate icon of this generation, the T-shirt originated from tea and shirts. The history claims that seventeenth-century workers downloading tea boxes from boats in the harbor of Annapolis in the US wore a kind of short sleeve shirt that was eventually named the T-shirt in reference to the tea as well as form of the shirt, which resembled the letter "T:. By the 1920s, the word T-shirt appeared in official U.S. dictionaries. Over time, what was originally just a form of warm-weather work clothing has evolved and developed a life of its own. The T-shirt, in its simplist form, makes a statement about the wearer. Whether political, artistic, or humorous, a T-shirt displays a message that reflects the ideals of the wearer. T-shirts are one of the world?s most prolific forms of graphic message and personal statement, both commercial and personal. This collection looks at the T-shirt and its many forms. The chapters include The Legend of the T-shirt, Power of an Idol, Duplication of Art, Declaration, Mobile Posters, Simple and Fashionable, Design Element, and Technique. Altogether, this volume provides an immense catalog of 500 designs for inspiration and enjoyment for designers, crafters, and T-shirt enthusiasts.
Customer Reviews:
Great book filled with lots of ideas..........2007-07-13
I really enjoyed this book. It had a historical overview, organized sections, and lush color photographs. It's a *great* book to browse through looking for inspiration; there's a totally unique or fun-n-strange idea at least every few pages. There were a few things which knocked it down to four stars, however:
The tips (and most of the text in general) were next to useless; their screen printing tip, for example, described the process with about as much detail as a dictionary entry.
A wider variety of shirts would have been good for some areas; the "counter culture" and corporate "logo" sections were bursting with material, but the "historical" sections seemed to fast forward from the early 20th to today, with a brief stop at the 60s and 80s. The "Design" section had some of the most interesting shirts of all, yet was a smaller chapter towards the end. They could have put in a wider variety of t-shirts, and could have found room for them by cutting out many of the repetitive examples (they had EVERY World of Warcraft t-shirt, even if it was just two different characters in the same pose as characters from the previous t-shirt.
Still, I'd recommend this to anyone interested in t-shirt making, or just fashion in general.

outstanding book on contemporary t-shirt design.......2006-12-16
As a big t-shirt lover, I picked up this book a couple weeks ago. The content features an impressive range of international shirt design and shirt designers. Nice mix of high-end graphic work, conceptual/arty stuff, etc.
Book is very well designed, also. I'd recommend it to anyone who loves t-shirts or just contemporary design in general. (The first two in this series, 100% Cotton and 200% Cotton, are worthy pick-ups, also.)

Book Description
The T–shirt may be the most ubiquitous, affordable, and popular item of clothing. Over the years it has served as a means to broadcast social, musical and political affiliations. Most recently, the T–shirt has become a creative tool for expressing inventive design.
The T–shirt designs in this book have been selected by Beams T, a hugely popular fashion retail chain and manufacturer in Japan devoted to T–shirts. Founded in 1986, Beams T regards the T–shirt as a canvas for new ideas in art and design and each year of their 20–year history, has invited artists from around the world to create designs for their T–shirts.
In this book, 350 of the best of these T–shirt designs are featured in full color.
Accompanying the book will be a CD ROM of flash animation which will allow readers to create their own t–shirts. There will be brand new work, created especially for this CD ROM, by 10 Japanese artists including Tsuyoshi Kusano, Tsuyoshi Hirooka, Kiyoshi Kuroda, Kenjiro Harigai, and Tomoki Kurokawa. The artwork included will be the actual size, enabling the reader to print their favorite artwork on their own t–shirts. The artists selected are some of the most renowned graphic designers/ illustrators in Japan and are regular collaborators of Beams T.
T–SHIRT FACTORY will include an index with a photo and bio of each author.

those reviewers are wrong.......2003-10-01
i liked this book. i thought it was very cleanly put together, with good examples by classic t designers alongside cool, up and coming people whose work i hadn't seen before. there was a really good selection of shirts and so what if there wasn't any information on how to print them? says it in the title: t-shirt GRAPHICS. that's what it says, and that's what it gave. nice new shirts around a difficult theme and a cool bunch of leftfield collections/exhibitions/shows. it's definitely a graphic designer's book rather than a book for your average consumer, but i'm a graphic designer so that's fine by me.
Pathetic examples of t-shirt graphics.......2002-12-22
This is not about t-shirt graphics - it's about non-mainstream artists who have happened to put their designs on tees. I get the strong impression that many of the graphics featured have never been printed on a t-shirt. Because the book features mainly abstract designs, it is very hard to relate with on a personal level.
This book does not feature any corporate owned lines, which tend to better exploit the imprinted clothing medium. Because of this you won't see any creative printing techniques or processes.
Many of the labels presented are popular in their originating country only and not worldwide. They should have organized graphics by geographic origin to clarify this, but instead act as if the lines are known worldwide when they are not. Very few, if any, Americans will have heard of these clothing lines, even the ones that are stateside.
The authors of this book obviously know nothing about creating artwork for t-shirts. They know nothing about the trends in the industry nor any of the popular brands of clothing. They don't know that American, Japan, Australia, and the European countries all have different tastes in fashion.
Creating a great t-shirt graphic requires the artist to understand the screen printing process, materials and techniques. The artworks featured were not created by graphic artists familiar with screen printing. They did not exploit the medium by creating complex color separations, half tone patterns, special inks, or other creative processes. Most art featured only has a few solid colors with no blends or details. Most designers appear to have taken the cheap route by not using a lot of colors (since each new color adds to the cost of the shirt).
They also feature far too many designs from each label/artist. They should have offered a bigger sampling from more designers and even corporate lines. Seeing twenty designs from one artist makes me think they were just lazy about finding more samples.
If you want to see professional t-shirt graphics, look at some screen printing trade magazines like Impressions. Try to look at the techniques being used and not the topic of the artwork. If you want to see some good graphic design, buy a different book. This book will not inspire anyone.
Its average I think........2002-12-12
I am a graphic designer and was looking for inspiration for some apparel designs. But a lot of the stuff in this book is the trendy pop-art rip-offs or deconstructive designs that look like they were drawn on the shirt with a marker. I think I may have been happier just buying a big book of logos. If you get to design shirts with ALOT of creative freedom, then maybe this is the book for you.
The part of the book I like the most is the actual "100% cotton" section where well qualified designers took the 100% cotton theme and designed something for a plain white T-shirt, and explained their thoughts behind it. But this was only about 20 pages in the book.
I think this book is average for a design book. I dont have any other T-shirt design books so I can't say how it compares to others. If you can get it , its not a bad deal.

The Best Rock T-Shirt Book Hands Down.......2007-02-03
Accept no imitations--rock tease is the real deal. I had to buy a second copy because mine was getting so worn from use. The pictures are great, the t-shirts are awesome, and it's clear that this sexy book's authors not only know what they're talking about, but treat the whole thing as a labor of love. That said, I love this book, my friends love this book, my neighbors all have copies, and you should too: it's just that good.
Excellent resource and a fun read!.......2006-12-18
This book is a great resource for the rock t-shirt afficionado and the casual fan alike. Fantastic photos of hundreds of rock's most interesting tees. The text details the t-shirts' designs and surveys the major trends in rock tees from the 1950's through the 1990's. I bought this book for myself and then ordered it for several friends. I highly recommend it for any rock or fashion fan!
love this book!.......2006-11-14
Whether you're a fan of art, vintage tees, or rock-and-roll, Rock Tease is a cool book for any collection.
It's smart and well written, without being pretentious. The authors do a great job of telling the story behind the rise and progression of rock t-shirts with interviews and insider accounts about this iconic and understudied art form.
There is a diverse and colorful range of tees featured in this book (chances are you'll find one from your favorite band!), with interesting explanations and side-notes describing the tees on each page.
I bought a copy for myself and will be getting a few more to give for gifts!
Very Cool.......2006-09-16
Very cool. A must have for anybody who loves rock and roll memorabilia and a delight for fans of rock in general. The book takes a funny yet sophisticated look at the history, design and significance of rock t-shirts and even throws in some interviews with the gurus of rock tees. Most important the book is stocked with excellent pictures of the coolest, most bizarre and funkiest rock tees. As the book says "Everything you need to know about rock and roll is writ large on rock T-shirts." And everything you want to know about rock T-shirts is writ large in this book.

T-shirt 360
ASIN: 1856694003
Release Date: 2004-11-09 |
Book Description
More than a cheap article of clothing, the T-shirt is a portable personal ad, its wearer declaring their political/musical/social affiliations for the world to see.
Since the Sixties, the T-shirt has provided a forum for expression where anti-war slogans mixed with early counter-culture classics such as `Keep on Truckin'', and tie-dye mingled with the debut of that hardy perennial, the tour T-shirt - album cover graphic on the front, venue details listed on the back. This book reflects the diverse and rich graphic culture that has arisen from the medium, considering its use in areas such as music, politics and fashion.
Music has had a lasting relationship with the T-shirt, which has proved almost as enduring a medium for music-related graphic design as the album cover. Design companies such as Mo Wax, Intro, Stylorouge and Designers Republic have comprehensive back catalogues of cool T-shirts that not only reflect the spirit of a particular band but also the spirit of a particular time.
Equally, however, politics and high fashion use the T-shirt as a medium for expressing a particular message. Katherine Hamnett famously used T-shirts to oppose Pershing missiles, while Greenpeace, Amnesty International and similar organizations highlight their causes through T-shirt graphics.
Fashion designers such as Stella McCartney and Savage use memorable graphics on T-shirts as an integral part of their range, while T-shirts are also a core part of the business of surf and skateboard companies such as Mambo and Fuct. Equally, however, graphic designers such as Tom Hingston and Product 250 are expanding into creating designs specifically for T-shirts.

Fat little book.......2007-05-19
500 pages of designs in a nice portable hardcover. A good reference or inspiration book. Also contains many designs from Europe not found in other collections.
Not bad for the price.......2006-11-26
This book is a decent selection of many of today's interesting t-shirt designs but has its share of shortcomings. For one thing many of the image sources are not very high resolution which is unfortunate considering the focus of the book is to show off these designs. In addition to low-res photos many of the photos are obscured or otherwise hard to get a good look at just the design. Pedro Guitton's design choices for the book itself are regrettable but thankfully do not get in the way too much. Overall it is a good value for the sheer amount and variety of sources included in the book and is good to pick up now and again for inspiration.
