Happy customer.......2005-09-26
I ordered this book and expected it to take a week to arrive. Instead,
I was pleasantly surprised when this book arrived 4 days later! Awesome turn around time!
A pretty good book...........2003-06-09
I used this book over the past year in my French class, and it's pretty well done. Each chapter has vocabulary, grammar explanations, culture/French history, and French literature. Much of the literature is famous, like "Les Miserables," and some of it is lesser known, like "The Dernier Classe."
However, if you are teaching yourself French, do not use this book! While it does include grammar explanations, they are very superficial, and in more cases than not, you will need a teacher or native speaker to help you understand it.
However, this book does have a tendency to repeat some vocabulary over a span of several chapters which helps the words stick with you. Trust me, by the time you finish this book, you'll know how to describe a robbery or burglary in perfect French!
On a final note, this book is good because it's very modern. It includes modern "slang" phrases (not old and outdated ones that make you sound stupid). It also uses the euro as currency and has a more fun approach to material than some of the older books do. Overall, it's a pretty good French book.

Interesting, but Cluttered.......2007-02-21
I think this text presents the information needed to teach French I, but it is terribly hard to tell. I'm currently using it as a home school text and find it so cluttered with pictures and graphics that it is difficult to use. Apparently, the student is supposed to learn grammar by osmosis as the rules and needed information such as regular and irregular verb endings are not presented as such here.
It seems to appeal to the student, but I find it overwhelming and not of much use.

More Like a Warm Night in Ballymuir.......2005-04-05
I find it hard to really care about prickly Jenna, or her bratty sister, Maureen. The effort to keep Dev's business interest mysterious, just ends up making it uninteresting. Apparently it had something to do with some modern resort or shopping center ruining Ballymuir's charm (and Jenna's restaurant).
I really like reading about Ireland, but the characters put me off enough that I couldn't even enjoy some of the descriptions of the country.
By page 150, I gave up on the story and flipped ahead trying to find the "Hot Night" that was promised. Never did spot it, but I'm sure it's there somewhere hidden in Jenna and Dev's sparring.
Dorien Kelly does it again!.......2004-04-22
HOT NIGHTS takes us back to the town Dorien Kelly created so vividly in LAST BRIDE IN BALLYMUIR, and what a triumphant return it is. This time we share the lives of Jenna, she who has brought Muir House back to life, and Dev, he who could steal away all she's worked so hard to create. Slowly, gently, and believably, these two work their way into each others lives and hearts.
Left me Cold.......2004-04-09
Weary, stale, flat...but apparently profitable. This formulaic second book in Kelly's series leaves one as cold as...well any real night in Ireland would. All there was of depth and promise in the first has fallen sadly short here. With a tiresomely predictable heroine, Jenna, and her inability to leave control of even the smallest detail or greatest pleasure, to the conflicted momma's boy for a hero, Dev, clearly meant to be the Devil, one must wonder what deal the author made that would force such compromise in what could have been a truly rich, deep, and Irish story line. Where "Last Bride" excited and inspired, "Hot Nights" , just makes the reader cringe in embarrassment for its author, and wonder if the third book, if there is one coming, will be worth the time to read it, or better thrown in the fire to try to generate the heat this book lacks.
Sparks flying.......2004-03-11
Sparks fly from more than bonfires in Ballymuir. Jenna Fahey fled her American family and worked to build a crumbling Irish manor into a fine restaurant. Dev Gilvane buried his Irish roots under finely tailored suits. Dev's after Jenna's home and after her heart. Jenna's after soaking his ambitions with the same determination she used to plunge his cell phone into her lobster tank.
Engaging relationship drama.......2004-03-03
Chicago blue blood Jenna Fahey relocated and opened up a restaurant in Ballymuir, Ireland in the historic Muir House that she hopes to own one day. After two years there renovating the place while serving meals, Jenny worries because London realtor Devlin Gilvane has arrived in town with plans for Muir House.
Jenna needs an infusion of fast cash to buy Muir House before her rival does. Worse she feels attracted to the one person who could destroy her dream as he has the loot to make a bid for Muir House. However, though business wise he knows he should tender the proposal, his feelings for Jenna keeps him from completing his assignment.
Anyone who peruses the opening line will be hooked to read this tale, the previous one (see THE LAST BRIDE IN BALLYMUIR), and the upcoming tale (hopefully starring the sister of the first novel's hero). The story line lives up to the fabulous opening as the audience obtains a fine contemporary romance starring two likable lead characters. The support cast is solid, but Jenna and Dev make the tale as their goals place them in opposition to the desires of their respective hearts.

Grateful Ultra-Happy Reader.......2007-08-04
I was amazed at the positive nature and excellent examples in this book! I have had the wonderful pleasure of being on a cross country bike trip with the author, Ralph, for the past 7 weeks now. I can honestly say that he lives what he writes in this book :) Ralph is one of the most positive people I have ever met, and his ultra-happy personality and advice shine through in this gem of a book. For those already living the ultra-happy lifestyle, this book gives a plethora of reminders of why it's important to continue on this journey. For those who may be struggling with the concept, I think that the book gives great ways to initiate the journey of joyfulness.
Feel Good.......2007-04-23
I just read this book. It is wonderful! I could hear the writer's voice as I was reading it. I have been so busy lately, but yesterday I was not feeling well, so I spent the day in bed. And today, I decided that I should have a slow, peaceful day to help build back my health, so picked up this book and read it. It was perfect. The stories were wonderful illustrations of each point. And while I feel very grounded in many of the secrets, there are a few I struggle with. So thanks for helping me heal my soul.
A Heartful of Happy!.......2007-01-16
The first step to being ultra-happy is just reading this book. Mr. Antolino's tone is set immediately - he is a happy person and he wants others to feel the joys of life too. His secrets to happiness are revealed through personal insights and experiences. The book gives you the same positive feeling as Joel Olsteen's, Your Best Life Now, but it is much shorter and focuses more on evaluating your own path to true happiness. Since life is a celebration, Mr. Antolino would like everyone's cup to be overflowing. His nine secrets are not meant to be kept to yourself - they should be shared with everyone for life's good voyage!

Great story, fun characters.......2004-10-06
I really loved this trilogy. The worlds Elgin invents are creative and really interesting in the way they evolve from Ozark culture and language. It is a fun series, with a lot of humor as well as the fantasy/adventure. I also recommend the author's NATIVE TONGUE series, which is much more serious but is a fascinating look at women and a possible dystopic future in which their rights are stripped from them until they have the legal status of children.
Ozark Trilogy.......2002-09-10
I didn't find this readable, but not for the reason one would think. The author does an excellent job of keeping her worldbuilding from being hokey, and she clearly has some knowledge of and respect for Appalachian culture. Readers worried about whether they'll be able to handle flying mules shouldn't.
The bad news for me was the lack of action and challenge in the books. I simply got bored by the insignificance of most of what happened. I don't utterly unrecommend this omnibus; readers who like sort of chatty, slightly humorous, light fiction may well enjoy it. I like dark, gritty stuff, and it didn't work for me.
Elgin creates a world that is both foreign and familiar........2001-10-01
The "Ozark Trilogy" encompasses a wonderful and magical world. The exploits and adventures of Responsible of Brightwater transport us to a place where donkeys fly, spells can be cast, and men think they are in charge. Take advantage of the re-release!
Engaging women-centered fantasy.......2001-01-25
These books are great. Elgin creates an incredible community of people, complete with magic and science, which has such a terrific set of cultural rules and folklore that you'll believe they must live somewhere. There are no annoying gaps in her world-building, and the fact that the main characters are female is enheartening. Elgin's facility with language keeps these books from sounding like 80% of all the fantasy novels you've read (which all seem, linguistically, to be taking place in Southern California in the 80's).
Back in Print and Happy to Have It!.......2000-03-27
The Ozark Trilogy is a fascinating flight of fantasy through a world ruled by magic rather than science. Join Responsible of Brightwater as she guides her planet through mysteries, festivals, and hardships, and admire the indominable willpower of the Ozarkers.
This was a great book when it was originally released nearly twenty years ago; it's wonderful to have it available again to a whole new generation of readers. Enjoy!

An exciting mix of science fiction and fantasy!.......1999-07-01
This book will soon be back in print through the University of Arkansas Press! The whole trilogy is a wonderful walk through a society which escaped from a polluted Earth to find a new place to live, bringing along a unique social structure. The characters are engaging and interesting, with the heroine Responsible of Brightwater leading the pack. I highly recommend this trilogy.

book #2 of the Ozark trilogy........2003-08-08
This is from the book inside page:
"Preparation for the first Grand Jubilee in five hundred years were in full swing on Ozark. Grannys, Magicians, and a delegation from each of the Twelve Families had gathered, eager for the festivities to begin. But "Responsible of Brightwater" was nervous. Some Families were dead set against the Confederation of Continents, and this was the week it might go down for good. To make matters worse, handsome young Lewis Motley Wommack the 33rd had chosen this moment to arrive at Castle Brightwater, determined to use his amorous tricks to ferret out her Magic.
Responsible had cast Spells half the night, and still only gotten one answer. There was trouble ahead. And she was right smack in the middle of it...And, when Ozark is endangered by Darkness and Night, a girl named Responsible must make "Magic bright!"
Book Description
