Book Description

In this delightful and witty third book in our wonderful series created by veteran dog trainer Lee Charles Kelley, a clever kennel owner, his lady love, and his loyal canines must solve their most sinister mystery yet!

One of Maine kennel owner Jack Field's favourite pastimes is spending quality time with a fun–loving pooch––which is why he's playing fetch with a Corgi named Tipper instead of mingling at a July 4th shindig. But when Tipper returns with a bloodstained boating cap in his teeth, the ex–New York cop decides to investigate䠮d finds an anonymous dead body clutching the tennis ball Jack tossed away moments before. The local law think Jack's the killer, since he had the opportunity and, as it turns out, a motive. Even his loyal and lovely fiancée, sometime medical examiner Dr. Jamie Cutter, is troubled by evidence that contradicts Jack's tale. Someone's going to great lengths to frame Jack Field, and he's determined to find out why––even though everyone, from a powerful tycoon to a Miami drug lord to a whole passel of professional killers, is equally determined to see him doggoned dead!

So what is it that is so very appealing about this series? Maybe for me it is the setting- my own adopted state of Maine. Or could it be the characters? Jack Field, ex New York detective, is the owner of a dog kennel/ training business. He is usually in the company of or thinking about Jamie Cutter, the Medical Examiner. Living with Jack is his foster son, 'Duke" a crime victim from NYC. A steady, well written cast of characters traveling from one book to another to make this a cohesive, fun group of books to read. The starring roles though are assigned to the various dogs that populate the scenes. Much space is also given to dog training tips- a system based on play and praise.
Kelley writes with his tongue firmly planted in his cheek. He seems to understand that Jack makes Sherlock Holmes seem dense and plots are more interesting when they appear impossible. The asides and comments to the reader draw the casual reader into his world. He cleverly admits that these are just good mystery stories that are enjoyable to read- and what more can we ask from a cozy?
(Next step would be a top rated tv show! Anyone out there know any producers..but remember it was my idea first!)

Three Hints for reading this series:
1. It is not neccesary to read them in the order written but would be more enjoyable to follow the continuing plot lines in order.
2. Just remember- the dog is always innocent ! (oops- is that a spoiler?)
3. If you do not have a dog when you start the series you probably will by the end!

To Collar a Killer
Tipper, a corgi, and Jack are playing fetch at the July 4th picnic when they discover a dead body.
Whan all the clues point to Jack as the murderer he must put all the pieces together to
figure out who is trying to frame him.

Jack Field does not believe in training dogs the same way as other trainers. And because of that, he seems to get hard to handle dogs eating out of his hand with what appears to be not much work. He's now showing his training techniques on the TV.

When Jack discovers a murdered man on his fiancee's aunt's island, he finds himself the prime suspect for the murder. His buddy comes down to help him out since his lawyer is in the hospital with another bout of her cancer.

The evidence points to Jack at first, but his fianc?e Dr. Jamie Cutter, assistant state medical examiner, starts getting to the bottom of the evidence.

In the meantime, Jack and Kelso, his buddy and new lawyer, do some investigating of their own. They find a possible art forgery scheme, and Maori hit men from San Diego. Plus, the man that was murdered was the helicopter pilot of a billionaire inventor from another private island off the coast of Maine.

Can Jack and Kelso, with the help of Jamie, get to the bottom of things without Jack ending up in jail or any of them ending up dead?

I love the way these books are written. They are so much fun. I wish Jack Field would come and train my dog. He has such a wonderful way with them. But he's also a great investigator, and Jack and Jamie have a terrific relationship, too. I especially appreciate that the sex doesn't have to be spelled out!

Kelso is a fun new character. I hope he'll be back in future books.

I highly recommend this book and the whole series.

5 out of 5 stars How I Wrote This Novel.......2005-09-20

Henry James, in THE ART OF THE NOVEL, categorized the detective story as "fantasy." (This, as opposed to the realistic novels he wrote.) He wasn't being derogatory, just precise. And there's a lot of truth to his point, even a hundred years later. We're all used to dramatic car chases and shoot-outs in crime novels, movies, and TV, and I'd venture to say that very few of us question how much of this is grounded in reality or is pure fantasy. The fact is, few police officers or real private detectives ever draw their weapons or engage in high-speed pursuits with bad guys. Real-life detective work is mostly drudgery and seldom presents situations that could be fodder for an adventure story.

But I love adventure stories! I loved the Hardy Boys as a kid. And Sherlock Holmes. And Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn (they were detectives, in a way, weren't they?).

Personally, of the first three novels in the Jack and Jamie series, this is my favorite. There aren't any shoot-outs or chase scenes (well, there is one scene where a couple of people, including my main character, Jack, are shot at, and there's a helicopter chase at the end, although it happens "off-screen"), but TO COLLAR A KILLER certainly IS an adventure.

There are a couple of ex-college football playing Maori hit-men from San Diego, a possible art forgery scheme, an FBI cover-up, a billionaire inventor with his own private island off the coast of Maine, and at the end there's a trap for the killer caught on live TV with international satellite feeds. It's kind of far out, I suppose, but I think I kept it grounded in just enough reality to make it work. Plus, it's funny as hell and there's one chapter, as Jack and his friend Lou Kelso wait outside the San Diego drug lord's hacienda, that is some of the best pure writing I've ever done.

So is this novel pure sensationalism or just downright sensational? I'll let you decide.

5 out of 5 stars To Collar A Killer.......2005-01-05

Jack Field is a dog genius. Any questions you may have, he has the answers. He thought, when he retired as a NYC cop and bought a kennel in Maine, that the rough life was gone. He is proven wrong when a man is found dead. Worse yet, Jack is the prime suspect!

The person framing Jack is doing a good job too. For this case goes from Maine to a San Diego drug lord. But they apparently did not know who they were messing with.

***** Very clever! The author had me guessing for a long while. Dog lovers (the tips really do work!) or not, if you like mysteries, you will love this one. *****

I do not like the cutesy titles, I do not like the cutesy artwork, but I love the novels of Mr. Lee Charles Kelley. My only problem is I gave five stars to one of his previous books, and now I don't have room to give this one the kind of stellar accolades it deserves.

It's a great mystery, but more than that, you care about the characters' lives, you laugh yourself silly at times, and you find yourself crying your eyes out at others, all while being kept in suspense about how the hero (and his lovely lady friend) are going to "Collar a Killer".

                    Book Description

Tomi was born in Hawaii. His grandfather and parents were born in Japan, and came to America to escape poverty.

World War II seems far away from Tomi and his friends, who are too busy playing ball on their eighth-grade team, the Rats.

But then Pearl Harbor is attacked by the Japanese, and the United States declares war on Japan. Japanese men are rounded up, and Tomi’s father and grandfather are arrested. It’s a terrifying time to be Japanese in America. But one thing doesn’t change: the loyalty of Tomi’s buddies, the Rats.

                    5 out of 5 stars A Definite Realistic Read.......2007-02-13

A good book that I recently read is Under the Blood Red Sun. It is a realistic historical fiction book by Graham Salisbury. It takes place on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, before, during, and after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor.

The story is told from the point-of-view of Tomikazu (Tomi), an innocent Japanese-American boy living near Pearl Harbor at the time of the attack. Then Pearl Harbor is bombed. Tomi must deal with racism, bullies, and cruelty.

Tomikazu is a friendly eighth-grade boy who likes to play baseball, and has consequently formed his own team, The Rats. He is loyal to his friends and will even face the crazy school bully, Keet Wilson, for them.

Billy and The rats are Tomi's best friends, being eighth grade and avid fans of baseball like he is. Billy is the friend that Tomi hangs out with the most. He is The Rat's star pitcher and is kind of shy.

From the very beginning, even before Pearl Harbor was bombed, Keet Wilson, the local bully, is a problem. He is a spoiled brat who can take down even Billy's older brother, Jake. His extremely strict father is Tomi's family's landlord, so they cannot do anything to harm him. However, after the bombing, Keet takes being mean to a whole new level. Keet reports Tomi's father and grandfather to the police, falsely accusing them of being Japanese agents. He also tells the police anything Tomi's family does, exaggerating it so it sounds like they are Japanese supporters. He kills Tomi's father's prize racing pigeons, saying that they are messenger pigeons. He also breaks Tomi's family's clothesline and spoils their water supply.

The book starts out several days before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. It encompasses some of The Rat's baseball games, and their friendship with another team. Then Pearl Harbor is bombed. Tomi's peaceful life erupts into chaos. Everyone is suspicious of all the Japanese, and there are several lynch mobs. His father is shot in the leg by an American aircraft and taken away when coming back from a harmless fishing trip. Many Japanese are being taken the mainland internment camps, which are places that the U.S. government built so Japanese-Americans would not spy. But what will happen to Tomi's family as the only peaceful world they had ever known is crumbling around them?

The largest theme in the book is teamwork. Tomikazu's baseball team sticks together through Pearl Harbor, other baseball games, and bullies. It is a theme that makes you think teams can pull through anything, which they usually can. Another theme is racism. Tomi struggles through the racism directed at Japanese-Americans by white Americans who feared that they were spies following the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

I would recommend this book to anyone ages 11-14. It is a very good book, and deservedly won the prestigious Scott O'Dell Award for Historical Fiction. It is very accurate for that timeframe, and it teaches in an entertaining way. It accurately describes the fear and racism following Pearl Harbor and gives glimpses of life in the internment camps. This book is suited for anyone who wants a realistic historical fiction or a tale with courage and bravery. The author writes this book seriously, staying on topic with very few humorous jokes, although it gives me an almost perfect mindset of where it takes place. It describes almost everything, from the dew on the leaves to the dust on the baseball diamond.

5 out of 5 stars Japan vs. U.S.A........2006-11-16

BOOM!! KABOOM!! KABOOSH!!!!! Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. Soon the U.S. Army declared war on Japan. This is when the action started. Tomi and his family are Japanese. During this time, Japanese people had to be careful because suddenly the U.S. Army stated arresting Japanese men. Suddenly, Tomi received a letter that said that while he was at work, his dad got arrested. A few days later, a couple of soldiers come to his house and arrested his grandpa. That left Tomi, by himself, the man of the house. Tomi now needs to take care of his little sister, Kimi, who is really scared of the bombs, and his mother who works with Keet's mom. Tomi needs to protect them and needs to be careful of Keet because if Keet sees something about Japan, he is going to tell his father. If his father finds out, Tomi and his family can lose their house. In this book, Under the Blood Red Sun by Graham Salisbury, you will learn about this Japanese kid who takes care of his family during World War II.
Tomi is the main character. His life changes a lot when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. He needs to face a lot of difficulties because he is Japanese. In that time people hated Japanese people because they thought all of them were part of the bombing. So they started to say, "Go back to Japan and never come back." Billy, Rico, and Moses are Tomi's best friends. They all help Tomi with some of his difficulties with other people who hate Japanese. In the book, they have a close friendship and call themselves "The Rats." Keet use to be Tomi's best friend, but when the war started between U.S.A and Japan, they weren't friends anymore. Keet's father was trying to get rid of all the Japanese in his town. So Keet spies on Tomi's family. Tomi needs to be careful because if Keet sees something of his heritage, he will tell his father and Tomi's family will get kicked out of the town they live in.
I recommend this book for people who like baseball, wars, and stories about friendship. When I first started reading this book, I liked it. It started with some action and some dialogue. For example, Tomi and Billy were playing baseball. When they got back to Tomi's house, Tomi's grandfather had the Japanese flag and showed it to the whole world. This ended with an argument and they were all chasing each other.
Before I started reading it, I thought this book was going to be boring, but then the action made me read this book completely! If you read this book, you will love it! This book made it feel as if I was part of this book. For example, all the action got me really excited and then I was so curios about was going to happen next that I couldn't stop reading. This book was exciting because the action comes right after another. You will love this book because it is filled with action. The action of this book felt like if it was real life. If you read this book, you will love it as much as I loved it.
From this book I learned that the U.S. involvement in World War II was started by the Japanese because they attacked Pearl Harbor and the U.S. started to arrest Japanese people. Also during that time the U.S. people started to hate Japanese people because of the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
So if you enjoy reading books about war and baseball, I suggest you read Under the Blood Red Sun.

I read Under the Blood Red Sun and i didn't really think it was very interesting. This was about a Japenese family that is having some trouble with descimanation. It's all going on around Pearl Harbor. But i didn't think it was exciting it kind of dragged on about the same thing. And really boring. But thats just my opinon.

5 out of 5 stars An amazing book!.......2006-08-22

This is probably one of the best historical fiction books I've ever read. If you hate reading books about WWII, try reading this book and you'll soon start to like it. Under the Blood Red Sun has a wonderful plot, and it has great characters with strong personalities. I'm Japanese myself, and I really wanted to learn about Japanese history. This was the perfect book for me! I can't wait to read Eyes of the Emperor.

                      Book Description

Far to the north, ringed by thunderheads and bathed in unnatural heat, lies Khymir, city of inexhaustible wealth and suppurating squalor, of sorcery and unbridled decadence, where the streets teem with hordes of cut-throats, and demon-sendings rule the night. Enter Jagutai Jen-Shian, bastard son of the Great Khan Sartac. Sent to ensure the signing of a vital treaty, he's his father's deadliest henchman, a small, steely warrior whose fearsome Urguz bow is more than a match for any spell. Opposing him is the demented High Priest of Tchernobog, Serrator Dessicatorius, who, believing that moisture is the principle of evil, dreams of a new and much drier Khymir. But Dessicatorius's insanity is too much for his heterodox second-in-command, Mancdaman Zancharthus, an engagingly ruthless pragmatist who enlists Jagutai in a plot to overthrow his master. Things are further complicated by the regal and beautiful Torrisanna, a temple prostitute with lethal designs of her own, and her her slinky handmaiden Lilitu, who'll stop at nothing to seduce Jagutai, or at least make him as miserable as possible... Supercharged with sex and bone-crunching action, Blood and Pearls is like nothing you've ever read, a hilarious, hallucinatory jolt of high-speed sword-and-sorcery.

The Zancharthus series is pretty much a must read after Zorachus.

The book starts a little slow, but once you are introduced to Zancharthus, you start to wish that he was in every scene. The humor in this book gives it a different feel than Zarachus, but you still have the violence and sex that you've come to expect in this world that Roger's has created.

I couldn't help thinking at first that Zancharthus was certainly no Zorachus, but Jagutai is much more interesting than Zorachus's bud, who's name I have forgotten at the moment. Once Zancharthus decides to become high priest things really get interesting.

I have to take at least one star away for the editing of this book. The number of errors are actually distacting. Luckily, the story is worth it.

This was a good read. I couldn't call it great but worth my time. The setting is well done and he has created characters who are compatible. It's worth the money.

I was expecting something kind of ordinary from this book, but boy that was a mistake. This book really rattled my cage---there was plenty of sex, violence, magic and humor. It just delivered the works. The writing was real sharp, and the characters were cool. The only down side was too many typos, but I kind of got used to it. Pick this book up!

I'll admit it, I bought Blood + Pearls for the illustrations. It's well worth the cover price just to have those. Mark E. Rogers is an extremely skilled artist, and his illustrations pratically drip with gore, sex, and feeling. To find that he writes as well as he paints was a wonderful surprise. Once I started reading Blood + Pearls I ripped right through it, then immediately went online and ordered the next two books. The characters are fascinating, especially Torrisanna and Zancharthus- both are ruthless and arguably "evil" but their spirit and complexity make them impossible not to sympathize with. This is the kind of book that keeps you up at night- you try to sleep but the need to know what happens next drives you to turn on the light and keep reading. Monsters, magic, ultra-violence, sex of many varieties, complicated and true emotions, spiritual insights, and a badass lil Asian guy.

Mark E. Rogers is brave when it comes to treading the world of written word. He does not conform to the cut and dried recipes. He assaults those techniques with a fresh and dark method of writing that is unlike anyone out there. This book continues in that genre. The Mark E. Rogers which melds Fantasy, Horror, and Erotica all nice an neatly into its own demented world.
This book is the first in a series of three and also ties in nicely with other books. This book introduces us to several very interesting and distinctly different characters. They have one thing in common. They are all living and struggling in a depraved place known as Khymir. If you think you have read about depravity and evil. You haven't. If you think you have heard it all. You haven't. Strap yourself into your chair and bring along a good supply of beverages and snacks because, you won't be coming out of this book until you have read the last page.

This book is most definately not suitable for young people. This is an NC-17 rated book and Mark did not hold anything back when writing it.

This book wasn't missing a thing. From murder to a typhoon it was a fast read making you want for more. My book club reviewed Blood Pearls last night and all agreed that Pat Booth-Lynch must make sure that this is part of a trilogy. Someone even mentioned that it reminded you of a TV mini-series. All agreed that it would make it big time. The information revealed regarding the corporate world tells me too that the author is very knowledgeable on how a business is run, especially when it comes to foreign trade. I would say, "Keep these books coming"

5 out of 5 stars Characters leave the reader wanting an immediate sequel.......2003-02-07

Madelyn Duval is an interesting mix: she is an ex-CIA agent; she is an expert in jewelry designing; and she took on the difficult task of step mothering for a dying friend. She is caught in a barren marriage with a schizophrenic son. And she is about to meet the man of her dreams, but in almost insurmountable circumstances. She goes on a introductory trip to China and becomes involved with her new man:

"For an instance the words didn't register. When they did, she looked away. I know he's right. I shouldn't be here with him. This hadn't been in her plans. The trip was too important to sacrifice for a fling. Or was it a fling? All of a sudden, she couldn't think."

Pat Booth-Lynch writes a compelling story, which includes two facets that are irresistible to the reader: the Orient (China) and pearls. Her knowledge of both sets the framework for a thriller that is as romantic as the reader could wish for. Cheng Gao is a dashing man caught in the middle of a place that could undo the best, and it is Madelyn's resourcefulness which eventually saves the day. Booth-Lynch keeps her plot moving along fast enough to engage the reader, and her evil characters fairly leap off the page with fire spurting out of their mouths.

Blood Pearls is a West meets East, escapist thriller written in the very best "read a novel on the beach" vein. Booth-Lynches' characters are larger-than-life; her action is nonstop; her predicaments are seemingly inescapable; and her denouement is hair-raising. The reader can't help but be engaged in the world which Pat Booth-Lynch creates. Her characters leave the reader wanting an immediate sequel.

Booth-Lynch is a talented writer with a vivid imagination and the expertise to draw the reader into her world. This is an excellent offering from an experienced author.

Pat Booth-Lynch is a corporate businesswoman who runs an apparel company and writes thrillers with lots of romance and visions of faraway places in her spare time. She currently lives in Florida with her husband. She has also written Tales To Tease The Senses.

Blood Pearls is a real page turner. I had a few minutes so I picked up Pat Lynch's book. Then I couldn't put it down until I had finished it. That, to me, is the measure of a good book. I found the characters believable and charismatic, the plot fast-moving and logical, the settings interesting and I learned about the pearl industry in Japan, too. All in all, it was time well and enjoyably spent.

If you like your action set in exotic locales, Blood Pearls is a definite must-read. The author exhibits a real knowledge of China and its people and government. Corruption, violence, murder, and a steamy romance between a Chinese cultural guide and a hotshot American businesswoman -- this book has it all!

                                Book Description

What if a United States Battleship, in the midst of the Japanese attack, had managed to get underway on December 7, 1941 and fight her way out of Pearl Harbor? What if she had given chase and after three days of futile searching had intercepted the Japanese fleet as they steamed victoriously back to Japan?

Lieutenant Commander William Wallace, the command duty officer onboard USS West Virginia, faced a career ending decision. But he had a bigger problem-Susan, one of four beautiful young women who found themselves onboard a strange ship among strange men who have suddenly gone to war.

There seems to be some confusion on how a twenty-knot U.S. Battleship could catch a thirty-knot Japanese Fleet after the attack on Pearl Harbor. I became interested in this scenario after reading "The Pearl Harbor Papers: Inside the Japanese Plans," by Donald M. Goldstein & Katherine V. Dillon where I found evidence of the Japanese withdrawal to Kure Naval Base after the attack.

The Imperial Japanese Navy steamed north at twenty-six knots, to avoid the (remote) possibility of air attack, up to approximately forty degrees North latitude. Once in the clear they turned east and slowed to fourteen knots their ordinary cruising speed (to conserve fuel), sometimes slowing to nine knots due to heavy weather. Six oil-tankers accompanied the Japanese fleet and refueling, especially for their escorting destroyers, was an on-going concern. The fleet typically slowed to twelve knots for this maneuver which took most of the day, the Japanese didn't have alongside refueling as the U.S. fleet did, but the tanker dragged the oil-hose astern for the destroyers to pick up. So, the Japanese didn't steam home at thirty knots, it was more likely fourteen knots.

Their route home must also be considered, they did not steam straight for Japan, but went up and around Midway Island, again to avoid the possibility of air attack. So, while the Japanese took a circuitous route home at fourteen knots a U.S. battleship could, upon exiting Pearl Harbor after the attack, steam directly for a point some seven hundred miles north of Midway Island at twenty knots (this class of battleship had a cruising radius of 6,800 miles at that speed) and indeed make an interception, especially as it carried four scout planes.

Was this scenario likely? No, but it was possible. So, too, was the dawn attack that caught the Japanese completely by surprise, which was not at all improbable given that a confident victor was halfway home unmolested. It is entirely possible that they would drop their guard at that point.

The final question, once the battle commenced why wouldn't a thirty-knot Japanese fleet simply come up to speed and disappear over the horizon out running their twenty-knot opponent? Well, it takes time to work an aircraft carrier up to flank speed and if a battleship was within range it would only take a few minutes and a few sixteen-inch salvos to set it alight (this happened during the battle of Midway when Japanese carriers were dive bombed). Also, the Japanese night formation used in this attack was their actual steaming formation described in "The Pearl Harbor Papers." So, if you're interested, read the book.

This very slender book is based on the premise "what if an American battleship had escaped from Pearl Harbor during the attack and given chase to the Japanese fleet?" The writing is actually very good, and the naval dialogue is well-done. There are a number of typos, and a small line drawing of a scantily-clad woman appears a couple of times for some inexplicable reason. There are the obligatory sex scenes which are not explicit and which are well-written, but not very well staged, if that makes any sense. It's as if a sixteen year old, hormones raging, decided what would happen, and a novelist were commissioned to draft the text. The naval action is well-designed to camouflage some factual problems in the story, i.e. how does a 15-20 knots battleship succeed in catching a 30 knot carrier task force, or engaging it, but the books ends far too abruptly. In my opinion, what the book really needed was a far broader plot that (1) paid far more attention to the loss at Pearl as a motivating factor for revenge, and (2) ended the book with the battleship's return. The carnage at Pearl - even what the ship's crew could have seen as they exited the harbor before the second wave - should have been gone into a little more, and served as a white-hot motivating factor for getting revenge on the carriers. As written, the chase is a pretty cool, bloodless affair, and I really missed a good ending wrapping it up.

I was hoping this book would be plausible alternative history, after all the Nevada did get under way at Pearl during the attack but I was most disappointed. How the 21 knot West Virginia could overhaul the 30 plus knot Japanese carrier force and then outfight them at night is absolutely out of this world impossible. While Mr. Houston provides excellent deck plans and side views of West Virginia, as well as some excellent side views of various Japanese units, he fails to chart West Virginia's course to explain how a much slower vessel (max speed 21 knots-cruising speed 15 knots) could catch Nagumo's force. The women on board ship subplot, with the obligatory sex and innuendo scenes, stretches credulity altogether. The editor was busy doing something else when this item crossed his desk because the book is chock full of errors. Finally, how one US battleship with no screen could defeat the Japansese striking force which was trained especially well for night battle and 24-inch torpedo tactics takes believability right into the Twilight Zone. I don't know whom we need more, Rod Serling or Joan Collins.

4 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING original story!.......2000-07-22

Great story and action, we needed a 400 page book to complete the story. The ones who complain about the ladies,,,,,,, they were there and history will not print it. The book is a very good read to the ones that know, remember, and wish. The editor needs work as well as the cover artist. Dan needs to be cautious of this reception and remember that a few that were there read his book. As I said before, this story needed 400 pages or a sequel or a scenario of another ship making the sortie out to sea.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting, plausible naval historical saga.......1999-08-01

Looking for a good book to read this summer while you're lounging around the pool? Look no further if you're a fan of naval sagas. (This was my first.) At just over 200 small pages of large print, "On a Blood-Stained Sea" is an enjoyable read for a lazy afternoon, especially if you're tight with Evelyn Wood.

Mr. Houston has crafted his novella around an intriguing premise: What might happen if an American battleship had escaped the Japanese onslaught at Pearl harbor and then chased the Japanese fleet as they sailed home? Like the dog that chases a car down the street, the logical next question is what do the Americans do if they catch the Japanese fleet? For the answer you'll have to read the exciting, action-packed climax.

By the way, did I mention the gratuitous sex? Although the four female castaways presented an interesting dilemma to the crew, Mr. Houston could have played it more PG-13 than R. Speaking of which, all the ingredients are there for a better-than-average made-for-TV movie. But, don't wait for the movie - read the novel now.
