Vicky Bliss, Meet John Smythe.......2007-10-03
The second Vicky Bliss book, this novel introduces us to the suave, debonair art thief, John Smythe. Vicky is intrigued when an amazing jewelry forgery shows up in Munich, where she is working for the National Museum. She decides to travel to Rome to see if she can figure out who is behind this. What she finds is a hotbed of intrigue, forgery and murder.
This is my second favorite of the Vicky Bliss novels (my favorite is the last). It is well written and Vicky is a wonderful, liberated woman.
COULDN'T PUT DOWN THIS SERIES!!.......2005-09-17
Elizabeth Peters excels once again at fun, suspenseful, comedic mysteries with this series. I could not put down this book. This is a great read!
As soon as I finished this book, I immediately went to the library and read the 4th and 5th in the series (I couldn't even wait to read the 3rd!) and I couldn't put them down either!! You'll stay up late just to finish them and love every minute of it!
Quite an enjoyable read!.......2005-06-16
It's been a long time since I've picked up a mystery book, and enjoyed it so much! I was up till 3 in the morning reading, I couldn't put it down. I loved the author's style- very brisk and believable, with humor and romance in all the right places. Plenty of adventure and danger too. Basically Vicky goes to Rome to find the creator of fraud jewelry. There she meets her match in "John Smythe". Whose side is he really on? And how is Vicky supposed to solve the mystery with such a distraction? I can't wait to read the other books in the series.
Great Characterization & Description of Europe.......2004-04-07
It's been awhile since I've read a book that I've taken such delight in. Vicky Bliss is a methodical detective much like Mary Russell from the Laurie R. King series. In "Street of the Five Moons", Vicky meets her match in "John Smythe", secretary to a nobleman and art collector, who strongly resembles Dorothy L. Sayers' Lord Peter Wimsey. His playful evasiveness is a delightful foil for Vicky's determination. Peters describes Germany and Italy like she's a longtime resident and makes clever allusions to more than a few literary classics.
"Street of the Five Moons", like many series' second books, seems stronger than the first installment and has more compelling characters. Vicky's asides to the reader are also a fun device. I look forward to finishing this series and strongly recommend "Street of the Five Moons".
Vicky mets John in Rome.......2004-04-03
while tracking down piece of a piece of jewelry that may have been stolen from her museum in Munich. While in Rome Vicky meets an interesting group of characters including the enigmatic Sir John Smythe who will appear in the rest of the series. Together they sort out the mystery of the jewelry, uncover frauds, solve murdersm have narrow escapes...well you get the idea.
For fans of the series this is the first appearance of Caesar as well as John Smith.
It is adventure, romance, mystery and action in a romantic setting with a comic touch. This is a fun read perfect for a few lazy hours of relaxation and escapism garanteed totally devoid of of any socially relevant content.

great book .......2006-11-02
This book is awesome even though I haven't finished it. Kyle sounds so cool but her dad is so mean. So far it is like he dosen't even love Catty.
magnificent! .......2005-10-05
This book is awesome. I loved everything about it. Since reading book #5, i've been reading like crazy, trying to find other books. When I got this book, I read it in 5 days. It has every factor that makes it a great book. It has drama, love story, friendship, and family values.
Catty and Kyle are my favorite couple, next to Vannessa and Michael. I think it's great when Catty realizes that someday, she has to face the Atrox alone. I hope Kyle could help her. I idolize the way Lynne Ewing wrote all of the Daughters of the Moon books because it makes me visualize what is actually happening in the story. i can't wait to read book 12!
Heck of a lot better than #10.......2005-04-11
I picked this book up last night at the local library, and i finished half of it in 2 hours! This was so much better than THE TALISMEN (sorry maggie)
The Secret Scroll has been sold to the musuem, and everyone visiting it is getting a little sick. Catty and the rest of the Daughters then try to steal it back, to save mankind (of course!) The scene where the girls try to steal the Manuscript back is quite comical, almost a 3 stooges movie.
AND we have another love interest. and he's a bad boy. literally. This book is quite a rollercoaster between one emotion of betrayal and hate to loving that person and wanting to jump down his jeans! i can relate to Catty, feeling a little insecure about herself because all her friends have boyfriends and she doesnt.
The scene w/ Chris and Catty is extremely sad. She meets her father, some powerful Inner-Circle Atrox dude.
I finsihed this whole book in one sitting. it was great. i cant wait to read the 12th book, and she better stop writing her male counterpart series and finish this one. I NEED TO KNOW EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!
Catty meets her father.......2005-03-18
The secret scroll has become an attraction at the art museum. Catty has to steal it before people start dying from the curse on the secret scroll. She almost has it but Kyle stops her. Kyle has his reason for wanting the secret scroll. The book is good but what you think is going to happen doesn't happen so the ending is sad. Catty gets to find out more about who she is, too.
Daughters of The Moon TV Series?.......2004-12-05
I think we should try to make it happen, i think these books are so good that they deserve to make a tv series off of this, if we love it so much we should get out there and say something, i personaly think they could make this series a Teen TV series..Girls think about it....And i have to say Jimena is my favorite, i like her with her gangster self....;)
Book Description
A thorough yet practical study that shows how the biblical gift of prophecy can build up today's churches and individual Christians.
Customer Reviews:
A clear understanding of today's prophet in the church.......2000-12-12
There is much confusion today in the church concerning the gift of prophecy and the role of the prophet. The available information on these subjects, especially as relates to a Graduate student in Theology, is limited indeed. This book is a shining beacon in an otherwise bleak literary landscape. It is very well written and at a level that Graduate students can appreciate, yet not so high into the academic clouds that the average reader would be lost. It is not written on the level of most popular novels, but it is written in a style that the average reader can follow. It should be a treasured work in anyone's libary, especially those who are studying theology seriously and need an excellent book on the gift of prophecy and the prophetic office itself.
VERY through treatment!.......2000-10-17
This book is definitely a valuable contribution to further the understanding of the prophetic ministry in the Church. It is very through, well-researched, and well-thought out.
The author approaches the prophetic ministry from just about every conceivable angle. Especially helpful is the explanation of the similarities and differences between the Old and New Testaments with respect to prophetic ministry.
The last couple of sections covering insights from modern church history and practical guidelines and instructions are also very helpful.
If you are looking for a comprehensive treatment on the subject of prophetic gifts, this is definitely a book you will want to read.
Customer Reviews:
Fantastic!.......2007-03-21
The rest of the reviews give beautiful summaries of this book.
I just want to add a few things. On the technical/storytelling side, Mr. Owens writes extremely well and this facilitates the excellent storyline that keeps the reader engaged.
Concerning the spiritual/Christian side of the book. This is the deepest book that I have read by a Christian author. By depth, I mean his representation of spiritual warfare is right on. Though many call this book a fantasty -- it is not fantasy but reality when it comes to the things of God.
So -- Mr. Owens, if you read these reviews. I just want to say thank you -- God is using you mightily and I am looking forward to your next book!
Can't wait for next..........2006-12-30
I really enjoyed Mr. Owens' book. Kept your interest and leaves you interested in the characters-wanting more. For all those who are looking for other good authors while waiting for next novel-check out Stephen Lawhead.
Excellent.......2006-12-20
This book was an excellent first novel. I cannot believe the publisher has not picked up the trilogy! I keep checking back in the bookstores, but no second book has appeared. With the great need for engaging Christian fiction, this book stands a league above some of the other trite books that call themselves good reading! I implore Strang Communications to reconsider and publish this series.
We could use a little more Christian fantasy.......2006-07-20
All the previous reviews tell you what the basic premise of this book is, a tantalizing bit of plot, that it is well-written, AND that it is an excellent first novel for author Owens. I agree with those statements.
But what is not told here is that new Christian fantasy is far and few between (his publisher put out four. Will there be more?) The Christian publishers--for years--stayed away from it and only re-published C.S. Lewis' Narnia or sent you to read Lord of the Rings and general market fantasy. A smattering here and there, but not a stronghold as a genre.
This book is well done, and if you appreciate Christian fantasy, you should be buying this. Why? 1. Because you like the genre and we all have said it's good. You'll enjoy it if you like Christian fantasy and a good story. 2. To let publishing companies know that we want more. 3. I really like it that there is a strong woman character and she meets her match in every way--definitely can appeal to women.
I hope Miles Owens is writing more of this sort of book. He'll only get better, and is already a really strong writer. More, Miles, more!
Great Christian Fantasy.......2006-04-13
In Miles Owens's book Daughter of Prophecy, a battle between good and evil is looming. At the center is Rhiannon, a girl who at her birth was prophesied to be the Protectoress of an Ancient covenant. At first she believes her prophecy to be literal and she trains with her brothers in sword fighting. But as the story progresses, she realizes the Eternal might have something entirely different in mind. Helping her in this process is a repentant religious leader and her foreign teacher. Meanwhile, the Mighty Ones are sending winged horrors determined to destroy her before she can fulfill the prophecy.
There are subtle christian messages throughout this book. The Eternal can use us only if we let go of all our wants and desires, and He is always standing by to help. Evil is truly evil and powerful, yet prayer can help destroy it. Owens does a good job of developing the characters and allowing them to grow in the story line. There are many characters, yet Owens makes it easy to keep track of them. Even the secondary character's actions will have an impact on the outcome of the battle.
Daughter of Prophecy is a great christian fantasy book. I look forward to reading the sequel.

A nice, enjoyable read........2005-05-01
I picked this book up expecting something a bit more fluffy and light. I'm so glad I was wrong. It is not a 'happy' novel, and doesn't try to portrey it's characters as perfect, (which they are very definitely not).
The author's vision of a post-apocolyptic America is fascinating, mixing science fiction and fantasy without being awkward. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next two books in the series.
good, but...........2000-01-16
This book had a wonderfull plot line, and unique ideas, however, there wasfar to much....love making (shall we say) scenes, and it greatly took away from the plot.
An intricate work of people in a twisted future.......1999-04-14
When I first got this book, I wasn't too excited to read it because it seemed like one of those sci-fi books from its cover. However, once I started reading it I realized it was filled with interesting characters and a really delightful plot. It follows the story of 3 characters, Nydia(The beautiful witch), Abelard (the King), and Phineas (The Captain of the Guard) and how they relate to each other and to the land in which they live. None of the characters are flawless and that's something a lot of authors tend to do with their characters. Each of the characters have a distinct personality. I also found myself rooting for one character one minute and saying, "What a jerk!" the next. I think this book is a definite must-read for anyone who likes romance, fantasy, and magic.
this was an unexpected enjoyable book.......1998-08-01
this is the first of Bush's "Pride and Pattern" trilogy, and the best book in the trilogy at that. the book follows the changing relationships between three people, King Abelard, Nydia the witch, and Phineas the captain of the Guard. After saving Nydia from execution Abelard decides to use her against people who stand in his way for gaining complete control over his realm. The society created bu Bush; a scarry and twisted furture america, is intricate and full of mystery, however Bush concentrated on the relationship between Nydia and Abelard more than she should hafe, i think, and this detracted from the actual plot. the ending is completely unexpected and leaves ample room for the two books that followed it.

This Book Is A Repairer of the Breach.......2006-08-11
This book is an inspirational word for the black woman struggling with the relentlessness of oppression she faces daily in a society that depreciates her value, discounts her opinions, despises her ethnicity, distrusts her presence, disallows her advancement and imprisons her spirit - all an attack of the adversary. No one seems to understand this woman's "attitude." No one understands her exasperation over why she cannot push past the limitations imposed on her by those who, at the same time blame her for her own lack. No one seems to understand the frustration she feels to be considered last, even if she is most qualified to lead. But Julie has been given a word for that woman which should turn on a light in her life, and reveal to her God's elaborate plans for her and the lives of those He shall bless through her existence. It is an inspiring, restorative, thought-provoking and motivating read! Great book!

Awakening, Empowering, Motivating........2006-08-06
After reading Ms. Gibson book I realized that everything on this planet is pre-designed for a highest purpose. Through the prophetic words of Issachar she was able not only to empower the black women but all human being that believe that this world only belong to the few. Civilizations that lost touch with their history, evaporated. Ms Gibson's book is a unique vehicle to elevate the soul to reach new highs to empower and make the impossible, possible and attainable. Thank you for writing this promising book.

(RAW Rating: 3.5) - The end times are coming.......2006-07-26
Julie A. Gibson has covered history as well as the present in her book DAUGHTERS OF THE DIASPORA GET READY. She feels the end times are near and the wealthy will become needy and the needy will rule the world or as put by the Bible, the first shall be last and last shall be first. Ms. Gibson states it is the Black woman's turn after serving in slavery and servitude for so long. She uses biblical references to explain her reasoning. Black women must first clear their hearts of greed. She says Black women must pray and be ready for their rightful position to take care of the poor and feed the hungry of all nations when the wealth comes to them. Ms. Gibson refers to this as the Issachar Anointing. The name Issachar means divine restitution and she feels it is time for the descendents of slaves to receive reparations.
It is a short, well-researched book biblically. I felt Ms. Gibson could have dipped a little deeper into present day issues such as the war in Iraq and the struggle between the Jews and the Palestinians rather than merely accept the word of the United States mainstream media for what is truly going on. It is an interesting book and sure to hold your interest.

Book Description
In nineteenth-century America, many black women left their homes, their husbands, and their children to spread the Word of God. Descendants of slaves or former "slave girls" themselves, they traveled all over the country, even abroad, preaching to audiences composed of various races, denominations, sexes, and classes, offering their own interpretations of the Bible. Chanta M. Haywood examines these autobiographies of Jarena Lee, Julia Foote, Maria Stewart, and Frances Gaudet, four women preachers who endured many hardships because of their religious convictions, to provide new insight into the nature of prophesying.
Customer Reviews:
Revealing look at four strong churchwomen.......2003-10-05
The years leading up to the Civil War and the ones that preceded it were a time of great change in America. In those pre-days, some recently freed slaves, as well as those in bondage, were covertly and overtly expressing their religious beliefs and their political views on their condiditon of servitude.
These four remarkable women were vocal in their opposition to the male hierarchy of the church, the "expected" role of women in the body of believers, and the confines of slavery as imposed on African-Americans. Such opposition to the "norm" made the women less than popular in many circles; however, they stood steadfast and eventually, through their nationwide travels, brought many to their respective church folds.
Dr. Hayward showcases each woman, offering her analyses of their respective writings/sermons. There are also glimpses of the women's personal lives and the burdens their travels placed on their families.
I wish, however, that the book had included more of the women's words, in contrast to the author's interpretation and explanation of them.
Overall, though, it is an intriguing work that is eye opening for those with an interest in the history of the Black church.
