Book Description
Now for the first time in one captivating volume, here are the first three mysteries featuring J. A. Jance's most popular and enduring character, Seattle homicide detective Jonas Piedmont Beaumont. It's a trio of tales steeped in the atmosphere of the Pacific Northwest that is sure to remind everyone that Jance is a master of modern suspense fiction.
In
Until Proven Guilty Beaumont finds himself investigating the murder of a five-year-old girl. But his own obsessions and demons could prove dangerous companions in a murky world of blind faith and religious fanaticism as he discovers that he himself is the target of a twisted passion ... and a love that can kill. In
Injustice for All Beaumont's well-earned vacation becomes a waking nightmare as he's forced to comfort a beautiful blonde after she discovers a dead body on a Washington beach. Suddenly a lethal brew of lust, madness, and politics threatens to drag the dedicated Seattle cop into the path of a killer whose dark hunger is rapidly becoming an obsession. And in
Trial by Fury a naked, dead body is found lying in a Dumpster. What's most shocking is the manner in which the man died -- he was lynched. The victim, a high school coach, has left behind a very pregnant wife with a very dangerous secret. And a sixth sense developed over twenty years on the job tells Beaumont that this investigation is going to the lethal extremes of passion, lies, and hatred.

terrific way to meet a strong long running police procedural.......2005-03-01
"Until Proven Guilty". The victim was no more than five years old; the weapon a Holly Hobbie gown used to strangulate Angela "Angel" Barstogi. Seattle Homicide Detective J.P. Beaumont may have fifteen years of murder cases under his belt, but whenever a kid is involved it is tough. He and his partner newcomer Ron Peters concentrate on the mother Suzanne and the cult leader Pastor Michael Brodie of the Faith Tabernacle. However, as he struggles to understand how Michael has such control over the "sisters", Beau, as J.P. is called, is sidetracked when he meets and falls in love with Anne Corley. Though Beau. does not come out as professional as he does in later tales because he spends the middle of the novel sniffing after Anne rather than the case, the partnering between he and Ron cleverly start to form, storm, norm, and perform.
"Injustice for All". Beau is on vacation at Rosario resort when he heard the scream that sounded like a bad teen slasher flick. Ginger Watkins was sobbing while Sig Larson of the parole board attending a seminar lies dead on the beach. Though a hundred plus miles from his jurisdiction, Beau takes charge of the crime scene only to learn that the husband of his witness is Darrell Watkins, running for lieutenant governor and that the victim's wife accuses said witness of an affair with her now dead spouse. The vacation shot to hell even though Beau is attracted to his star witness. In an early appearance, Beau conducts an intriguing investigation that is somewhat sidetracked by his attraction to Ginger, but he show more of the depth of caring that highlights his later tales as he makes inquiries though outside his jurisdiction.
"Trial by Fury". The corpse of Mercer Island High School basketball coach Darwin Ridley was found in a dumpster; he was executed state-style. Beau investigates starting with the pregnant wife Joanna who says her husband never comes home following a defeat as he needs time to recover and the team just lost at the finals. The suspects are shockingly everywhere including the spouse, but who could have done a state style execution seems juts outside Beau's grasp. This is the Beau that readers adore as he is filled with flaws, gets no respect, but keeps working in between drinks to solve the case.
These three 1980s Beaumont tales introduces the audience to Beau, his partner, his journalist enemy, and some of the lovers in his life while providing a grim realistic po0lice procedural. SENTENCED TO DIE is a terrific way to meet one of the better long running police procedurals.

Slow Start.......2007-09-11
I've always been glad I didn't met J.P. Beaumont in the beginning. When I find an author I enjoy I make a point to collect their previous works and read them. If I had encountered the first entry of this series I would have missed some great stories later on.
It is tough work setting up new characters while leaving something to be added later, but "Until Proven Guilty" was shallow with expected routines.
If you are new to the series, start in the middle, then read the beginning, you'll become a fan.
Nash Black, author of "Sins of the Fathers" and "Travelers."
Great beginning to a terrific series.......2007-07-11
I love this Seattle-based series - Until Proven Guilty is the first. Read them in order! Well written and engaging. If you like these books, try Jance's other series set in Arizona starring Joanna Brady.
Predictable but not terrible.......2006-11-26
Well, finally, that's over. Not because it sucked, but that it was inevitable. The first JP Beaumont mystery was not a mystery at all. The reader simply waits for the inevitable. It's not bad in the prospect of making the city (eg. Spenser:Boston, etc) a main component of the story. Unfortunately, it's all rather obvious. I liked it, but saw the ending coming from pages in the double digits. However, being a novel, it runs into the triple digits. The protagonist, JP Beaumont, is well-realized and worth following. The rest, which I won't comment on in deference to new readers, is obvious to the point of distraction. But read on I did and will. It's the first in a long-running and well-loved series wherein the city is as much a character as the guy who actually solves the case. I love Seattle and it probably had a lot to do with why I forgave much in this book. In my eyes, the reader could solve the case with no assistance from the detective. But after all is said and done, the reader is rewarded with engaging characters, situations, and most of all, settings, for a good time for the reader. You won't be surprised, but you may like it.
One of the best dectective mysteries!.......2006-06-07
I loved this book and I highly recommend this series, especially if you live in Seattle, WA or have visited the state of Washington. J.A. Jance keeps you turning the pages to see what happens next and I read the first 3 books in the J.P. Beaumont series which are in (Sentenced to die) in 10 days. Loved it.
Excellent start to a mystery series... very good Characters........2006-04-26
I generally start a new author with his/her first books. I have just finished reading J. A. Jance's Until Proven Guilty, featuring J. P. Beaumont. I found the book very enjoyable. I have heard from a variety of people that J.A. Jance was a very readable author. I found that with this solid mystery.
Book Description
In research and teaching there is always a need to use real events. This is a factual account of events that occurred leading to my retirement from the Philadelphia Public School System. My hope is that future primary and secondary school teachers can circumvent many of the difficulties that I have encountered and still remain professionals.

Great book.......2006-08-08
This was a great suspense book and romance as well. If you like Betsy Brannon Green, you will love this one too!
Wonderful Book.......2003-11-26
Once again Betsy has writen a book I hated to put down. This story is about Beth Middeleton who is given a job by her boss. The courts want her to observe the relationship between Jack Gamble (a lawyer that no one seems to like) and his daughter Cloe. Jack is involved in the biggest murder trial. Beth offers to help with paperwork and becomes involved more and more in the case. Meanwhile she is beginning to understand Jack and his relationship with his daughter. As the trial gets underway, people start to disapear and Beth finds herself right in the middle of danger. You will LOVE this book. It takes place in Haggerdy GA and even has Kate and Mark Iverson from Hearts in Hiding in it.
the best one yet!.......2003-08-03
This is Betsy Brannon Green's greatest book yet. I enjoyed every momeny of it and couldn't stop turning the pages. It had great suspense, a sweet romance, and interesting characters. Beth Middeleton tries to leave reality after her fiance' dies in a car accident the day of their wedding. As months pass slowly, however, she again is forced to come back to normal life, but finds it very difficult. When she accepts a job to be the evaluator of a big name attorney, Jack Gamble and his five-year-old daughter, Chloe, she becomes involved in the biggest case her boss has ever encountered. As the evidence mounts against Jack's client and important people in the case begin to dissapear, she and Jack work to find out what really happened and come closer together than she ever thought possible. This book lived up to my expectations and more. I hope Betsy Green continues to turn out the great books.
Book Description
Crimes against children are unspeakable. The natural instinct of our society is to protect our children at all cost. In the process, collateral damage has been done to teachers wrongly accused of abuse. Colorado Education Association Attorney Greg Lawler has been fighting for teachers' rights for fifteen years. Guilty Until Proven Innocent examines thirteen of Lawler's cases in detail and explores the societal pressures that led to the persecution of innocent teachers. Using real cases that Lawler has litigated, Guilty Until Proven Innocent explains the role of legislators, the media and the public in the growing phenomenon of teachers being falsely accused of abuse against students.
Customer Reviews:
A Must Reading for All Teachers.......2007-05-12
This book should be required reading for ALL teachers and all those preparing to become teachers. I have been falsely accused myself and find this book helpful in dealing with the stigma and the humiliation that comes with the accusation AND the media witch-hunt that follows the accusation--well before evidence has been presented or fully examined, and long before any "verdict" has been reached. These authors have dealt with and represented hundreds of teachers who have been in this situation and offer, through their experience and insight, ways to handle the legal, emotional, and practical aspects of false accusations. Do these things really happen? Of course they do. But there are many more falsely accused than there are actual cases of abuse. And what of the accusers who have ruined a teacher's life and livelihood? They get off with nothing almost 100% of the time. Read the book. You will find some frightening and crippling stories of teachers who have had their lives ruined and their incomes and futures ripped away from them because of the anger and need for revenge of some students.
Teachers, Read this!.......2007-01-29
If you are a teacher then you should read this book. Many of us are naive and think nothing bad will ever happen to us. This book is easy to read and tells the stories of teachers who thought the same way but ended up in legal trouble. This book will help educate teachers on how they may protect themselves against false accusations. A must read for teachers.
lots of teachers in my family, not anymore!.......2006-04-26
All my grandmas, aunties, & Mom were teachers. (They were very good Working Mom's--incase you run into people that say working moms are bad. We did better in life than our peers who's mommas didn't work. ) Anyway, our teacher relatives discouraged us kids from going into it.
The odds of having any sort of false accusation made against you is really high...nothing is too low for many of these folks seeking to make money. You are lower than the garbage man, people are more intimidated because the garbage man knows where these folks live. Bartenders & cashiers gets better treatment, because they could spit in your drink, plus all your peers are watching.
Many of the kids won't mind, they aren't prepared for schooling, their parents didn't want to "break their spirit" by teaching appropriate behavior or discipline--unlike any other animal social pack on the planet.
Alot of the kids households are highly unstable, abusing drugs & alcohol, lots of men & women come & going from the homes, so that highly increases the chances of the kids being sexualized, relating to the world through sexuality, desperate for attention, manipulative, YET very angry and punitive.
These kids don't have much chance of learning study skills or even having a stable house to do homework or prepare for school, so not much future prospects. So they & their parents are going to "survive" at all costs even if it's taking advantage of a teacher or the school system. Or they'll take revenge over their failure in parenting, sue the teacher or school.
Here's a sad story:...
"Teacher who died in prison is cleared posthumously of rape
A WEST Yorkshire, UK, teacher who died in prison after being convicted of raping one his pupils has been cleared posthumously.
Timothy Gee was jailed for eight years when he was convicted at Leeds Crown Court in 2001. He fell ill and died from an undiagnosed blood cancer the following year.
Always maintaining his innocence, Mr Gee launched two unsuccessful appeals before his death. He has now been cleared by the Court of Appeal.
Campaigners have described the case as one of the worst miscarriages of justice they have seen.
Gail Saunders, of the campaign group Falsely Accused Carers and Teachers, said: "It is an appalling example of the extraordinary difficulties faced by individuals who are accused of abuse many years after the alleged offence."
Mr Gee's 88-year-old mother Molly has been awarded more than ?62,000 costs by the court after battling to clear her son's name. As part of that bid, she contacted the Criminal Cases Review Commission, which asked a leading psychiatrist to report on the girl - now aged 26 - who had accused Mr Gee of rape.
While the study cast doubt on the girl's mental state, it emerged that she had also made similar accusations against another man, whose conviction was quashed earlier this year.
Mrs Gee said: "It all boiled down to one girl's word against his, and the jury believed her. That's all it took to send my son to prison and it has left me very angry and grief stricken. I don't think anyone should have to work alone with a child - it's just too easy for an allegation like this to be made."
Mr Gee, from Lindley, Huddersfield, taught brass instruments for 25 years in Kirklees and Calderdale before he was accused of raping and indecently assaulting a pupil in a Huddersfield school in 1989.
He died aged 55 in August 2002, a month after his second appeal failed.
Overturning Mr Gee's conviction, Lady Justice Smith said that experts now believed the girl's statements to be "unreliable."
25 April 2006"
People in Education -- Read This Book.......2005-05-15
This is an important book. Sure it is anecdotal. Yea, some of the prose is less than deathless. Ok, the discussion of law is limited to one state. However, administrators and teachers need to read this and then pass it on to a colleague. Your jaw will drop open in astonishment every other page
Examining the phenomenon of false accusations.......2003-12-13
The collaborative effort of journalist Matthew D. Olson and Colorado criminal defense lawyer Gregory Lawler, Guilty... Until Proven Innocent: Teachers And Accusations Of Abuse is a compelling and authoritative look at the human instinct as expressed through the legal system's inclination to protect children at all costs - even at the expense of a constitutionally required presumption of innocence. Examining the phenomenon of false accusations against teachers, (including thirteen of litigator and author Lawler's cases), Guilty... Until Proven Innocent is an exceptional and thought-provoking study, which is highly recommended reading for students and practitioners of the law -- as well as educators and members of the general public with a vested interest in protecting children from abuse and teachers from false accusations, while upholding the highest standards of the American judicial system.

Book Description
In coastal Santa Rita, California, the horrifyingly similar murders of three women has the District Attorney's office reeling, and the rising political heat only adds to the juggling act of Assistant D.A. Kathryn Mackay -- a divorced mother determined to make her mark in a testosterone-driven field. But when she's tapped to lead the investigation, Mackay discovers that everyone has an agenda: the ratings-hungry TV newsman who knows more about the D.A.'s moves than any outsider should; the brilliant mind-hunter from the state capital, who's eager to apply his psychological profiling techniques; and the killer himself, who begins to send Mackay cryptic, taunting notes. "Run, run, as fast as you can. You can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread man." And run she does -- after false leads and obscure clues, through a gauntlet of media and political pressure, into the dark tunnels of the killer's brain. As Mackay closes in, she must fight the suffocating fear that she's engaged in a deadly pas de deux with the killer, who's carefully stalking his fourth victim: her.
Customer Reviews:
promising, but falls short.......2002-03-09
The plot and storyline of this book are pretty good and there were definately times when I could not put it down but there were a few annoying details. Not enough for me NOT to recommend it, but annoying nonetheless. There is the occassional mispelling which isn't much but it interrupts the whole flow when you are at a critical point. The main character's 6 year old is a bit too precocious for my taste with lines like "I don't mind really. I mean, eveyone knows life's not fair" and "sometimes I don't mean to cry but sometimes the tears just run out on their own". Very logical and understanding for a 6 year old. I also agree with a previous reviewer that states that the main character misses obvious clues. Overall, I enjoyed it enough to finish the book but I would have enjoyed it much more had these details been different. Details are little things I know, but as any good mystery enthusiast knows..the key is most always in the details :)
It's a page-turner!.......2001-02-28
I truly love Christine McGuire's style! This is the second book I've read - the first was "Until Justice is Done" (LOVED IT), and I am already looking for the next one! Not only does Ms. McGuire involve several plots/stories in one book, but she gives great detail about the prosecution process as well! :-)
Shallow, One-Dimensional Characters.......2000-04-12
There are many problems with this book, but the most glaring is the one-dimensional quality of the hero, Kathryn Mackay. Ordinarily, tough female attorneys are appealing, but Mackay is not just tough, she is cruel, shallow and sloppy in her work as well. It is disappointing that she is less likable than the men in the story, though they, too, have little depth. Since it is impossible to empathize with the hero, the reader cannot feel bad for her when she gets into trouble. She states that a woman has to be tough, like a man. One must ask if she were going to try to be like a man, could she not at least have chosen a nice man? Mackay is painted as a bright, ambitious woman, but she is too ignorant of the law and too sloppy to be real. She misses the most obvious clues in the solving of the crime and behaves like the baby-sitter in the horror story who hears voices in the basement and goes looking with a tiny flashlight. The condescending nature of the novel is also annoying. There are many examples, but one occurs when a character ends a phone call with the phrase "Ten-four" and the next sentence reads, "Ten-four meant message received and understood." One wants to read to the end of this book, hoping the author will redeem herself. McGuire never does.
One of thoses Page-Turners; Don't Start It Late At Night!.......1998-06-10
Great protagonist and characters. One of the best psychological thrillers I've read in a long time. Fluid, literate writing. Deliciously chilling. Can't wait to look for more books by this author.
A Childhood hatred.. Can turn a man into a killer..........1997-03-10
A man haunted by his past, an abusive step-parent, a veteran from a war, forces him to kill, kill, and kill some more.
Kathryn MacKay, as well as her partner are again on the case. They have to find this killer, before he finds them.

There was a murder on the losse, a serial killer and rapist. Super Reader.......2007-08-30
This trilogy again stars Corum, Prince of the Silver Hand. It is also an adaptation of the mythological conflict between the Tuatha De Danaan and the Firbolg, with Corum of the Silver Hand standing in for one of the heroes opposing the Firbolg, due to the similarities.
Here, Corum and the Mabden's enemy is the Fhoi the gods of the Cold Folk, and they have to deal with war, and the terrible, biting cold that steadily grows worse and worse.
Notice.......1998-04-01
Don't fret that this book is out of print. Most of Moorcock's works are currently being reprinted by White Wolf. This book is on that agenda. Be patient. This is one of the books of the second Corum trilogy, which is possibly the darkest series Moorcock has written to date. I give this book a low rating because I didn't really enjoy reading these books, not because of any lack of imagination or talent on the part of the author. If you're into dismal fantasy, this is as good as it gets.
