Book Description
In December 1923, Daisy Dalrymple Fletcher yields to the demands of her mother and the needs of her writing career and brings her family to an old Cornish estate for Christmas. The estate, occupied by the poor relations of the ancestral lord, has a rich history of lore, ghost stories, and festering resentmentssome or all of which leaves them all trapped in a house with a corpse and a murderer.

Christmas at Westmoor turns deadly.......2004-12-16
This book is set in London in 1923. Daisy Dalrymple Fletcher and family are to gather for Christmas at Brockdene, Lord Westmoor's estate in Cornwell, with her mother Dowager Viscountess Dalrymple. Daisy arrives ahead to get some information for an article she is writing on Brockdene.
Once Daisy arrives, she finds that not only will Lord Westmoor not be joining them, they will be joined by The Norvilles, some poor relations who live there. She is sure her mother was not made aware of this information and wonders how she will handle it when she arrives.
Daisy soon realizes that the Norvilles are mostly unhappy people. It is discovered that Susannah Norville, the family matriarch, arrived at the state many years ago to find out her husband Albert had drowned and his family would not accept her word that they had been married. So her sons were not given their birthrights as earls. Her son Captain Norville has arrived with Reverend Calloway. Daisy doesn't know immediately what the purpose of his visit is. Then he is found murdered in the chapel.
Daisy's husband, Alec, didn't want anyone to know he was a Scotland Yard Inspector. But once the local police are contacted and it is soon apparent Scotland Yard will be called in, he has to step up and run the investigation. He calls for his team to come assist him.
Alec's young daughter, Belinda, and her cousin Derek, have been enjoying investigating the house. Many desks are supposed to have hidden compartments. They discover some of them and then find some valuable clues for the investigation.
I found Daisy, Alec, Belinda and Derek to be very entertaining characters. I think they really made this story. Normally I don't read many books set in London or back in time. I was pleasantly surprised to find this book to be a very enjoyable read. I recommend this book.
delightful who-Dunn-it.......2002-12-21
In 1923, a finally married Daisy Fletcher (nee Dalrymple) accedes to her pushy mother's demands that the family spend Christmas at Brockdene, a Cornish estate owned by Lord Westmoor because she is writing an article on the holdings. Accompanying the Dalrymple females for the holidays is Daisy's husband, Scotland Yard Inspector Alec. At Brockdene, they find the Earl does not live there, but the poor side of the extended family, three generations of Norvilles do.
Daisy realizes that the manor contains several angry residents. The matriarch is Susannah Norville, whose husband Albert drowned fifty years ago before she arrived from India with their two sons. Albert's wealthy family rejected her verbal claim as his widow as spurious. Her oldest son Victor returns from to India accompanied by Reverend Calloway, who claims he wed Albert and Susannah. He also has documented proof to his assertion that alters the line of succession to the earldom. However, someone murders the Reverend. Alec contains the crime scene and sends for his team to help investigate. Daisy makes inquiries too, but the killer willingly will murder again.
Daisy and her mother are fun characters who turn this combo amateur sleuth-police procedural into a lighthearted historical romp. The amusing story line becomes a bit jumbled (keep a family tree or two handy) that leads to some confusion as to who's who and whom belongs to who (this homicide occurs before Abbott and Costello). Fans of a buoyant easygoing who-Dunn-it that never takes itself serious will want to read MISTLETOE AND MURDER.

and excellent "cozy" read -- just the thing to curl up with.......2002-11-29
A semi-deserted family estate in the middle of a region rich in smuggler lore, that also boasts of having it's own fair share of ghosts and secret passages, stories of missing treasure, and that is currently home to a family of poor relations -- these are just some of the ingredients that Carola Dunn has used to whip up the latest Daisy Dalrymple murder mystery. Does she deliver? I thought so. "Mistletoe and Murder" turned out to be a rather charming and entertaining read. And while the mystery plot did take a while to get under way, I did not feel shortchanged at all since the authour wisely spent half the book setting the stage -- filling us in on the past and present histories of the Norvilles (both the richer and the poor relations), and fleshing out the various characters that were about to become suspects of the for murder mystery that was about to take place.
It's December of 1923, and Daisy and Alec are about to spend their very first Christmas as a married couple together (barring Alec getting called up to investigate another criminal case, of course). But first, Daisy has to go away for a few days in order to write an article on a distant cousin's estate, Brockdene, for her magazine, 'Town and Country.' Unfortunately for Daisy, when her mother, the Dowager Viscountess Dalrymple, gets wind of Daisy's plans, she comes up with a counter-plan of her own. The Dowager has decided that her entire family will spend Christmas together at Brockdene as guests of Lord Westmoor (the owner of Brockdene). Unbeknownst to the Dowager (who envisions some sort of elegant Christmas do peopled by the "right" sort of people) however, her plans are destined not to be realised: to begin with Westmoor and his family no longer spend Christmas at Brockdene and Brockdene is currently home to Westmoor's uncle's children -- scandal-ridden, poorer relations that have never really been acknowledged; also Daisy's sister has fallen ill, and so neither she nor her husband will be able to attend the Christmas festivities. All in all, not the kind of family gathering the Dowager had in mind.
In attendance however is an ex-missionary priest who has some connection to these scandalous Norville relations, and who seems to have been invited to Brockdene for a particular reason. What this reason is, Daisy isn't exactly sure (though she is dying to know), but she is sure that the reverend's presence is putting a strain on the Norville family, and that the tension and resentment is taking a toll on everyone. Esp since the reverend proves to be a rather stiff-rumped disapproving sort who soon puts a damper on the entire gathering. And then the reverend is found murdered in chapel. The obvious suspects are (of course) the poor Norville relations, but new information soon puts other Norville relations (Westmoor as well) in the running for prime suspect. Why was the reverend murdered and by whom? And as much as Daisy may like most of the poor relations, she cannot deny that one of them may have had the best reason for killing the reverend...
I really enjoyed reading this latest Daisy Dalrymple murder mystery. True, the mystery plot did take a while to unwind. But Carola Dunn told her story in such a charming, elegant and clever manner that I didn't feel impatient at all that the mystery proper took a while to get started. And then there was the poignant subplot involving the 'scandal'-ridden poorer Norville relations. I was truly involved with their plight and was really rooting for them to come out on top. There were, on the whole, very few plot twists, but there were suspects in the plenty. And the novel was rich in atmosphere and period charm, with a good storyline and a telling indictment on prejudice. For me, "Mistletoe and Murder" was a truly excellent read.

A Christmas Mystery, But Not Much of a Gift! .......2007-06-12
Mistletoe Murder by Leslie Meier is the first book in the Lucy Stone Mystery series. I generally like a good cozy and thought this would be a good series to try.
Lucy Stone lives in Tinker's Cove, Maine. It's a rustic small town that houses the famous Country Cousins mail-order company where Lucy works nights taking phone orders. One week before Christmas, business is booming. There is barely time to take a break from all the calls. But that night, Lucy decides to step outside to get some fresh air with the hopes of staying awake until her shift is over at 1 am. While she's outside, she notices that Sam Miller's car is idling in the parking lot. Sam is the owner of Country Cousins and usually isn't around in the later hours of the night shift. When Lucy goes to see if everything is all right, she notices that a hose has been attached to the exhaust and is pouring fumes into the car and Sam is slumped over the steering wheel.
It is hard to believe that Sam would commit suicide. The man has everything. A beautiful wife, a great business and lots of money. But when it is discovered that Sam was unconscious BEFORE he was put in the car, it would seem that Tinker's Cove was seeing it's first murder in many years!
I have to say this book and the entire storyline rather underwhelmed me. I have always loved a good mystery, especially with a female protagonist. But Lucy Stone isn't one of them. In fact, there really wasn't much mystery at all. She stumbled on the body and stumbled across a few clues in between shopping trips. She spends most of her time gossiping with her neighbors and sewing Christmas costumes! There were also a couple of unresolved threads in the story that were just left hanging. I'm still unsure how they are supposed to fit into the story. By the end of the book, I was more annoyed than anything. I have a feeling, this will not only be the first Lucy Stone mystery I read, but also the last!
Fun, Awesome, Wonderful, Terrific.......2006-12-25
Five stars is not enough. Lucy, the main character, has a cozy family. She has a husband and three kids. She works the late shift as a customer service representative at a mail-order company, so that they can save money on daycare because her husband works days. I absolutely love the character Lucy and her cozy family. She is realistic with a busy and hectic schedule. She is also a loving mother and wife and friend. I love her.
I loved the scenes where she was at work. I almost felt like I was there. I also loved the comradery she had with her co-workers.
I loved the Christmas activities, the grandparents coming to visit, the cookie-baking, and the excited kids.
I loved all the activities of Lucy and her family and her friends and the town. It was really a lot of fun. The whole book was cozy.
This book is the first book of this series. It was originally published as "Mail Order Murder". I read the third book first ("Trick or Treat Murder"). I love these books so much, I will definitely read all of the books, in order (except for having read the third one first). I am so grateful that I stumbled upon these books in the book store. I am so excited about reading the rest of these holiday/occasion murder mysteries. There is a mystery for every holiday and every occasion.
Murder Without Mistletoe.......2006-04-07
The first book in Lucy Stone mystery series (this book was previously released as Mail Order Murder) finds Lucy in a panic around Christmas. Not only does she have cookies to bake for the annual cookie exchange, but she has gifts to purchase (can you say mother-in-law?), and has to chauffer the kids to several holiday activities. When Lucy discovers her boss dead in his car at work, everyone initially suspects suicide. But Lucy is not convinced, and juggles all of her holiday activities to track down the killer.
I really enjoyed the first book in this series. Lucy is a believable character; she has kids, a hectic schedule, a job, and is overwhelmed during the holiday season. I enjoyed all of the aspects about her life because they are relatable to so many working moms. While not being wordy or overdone, this book entertained and provided a light, fun read.
If you like the Jane Jeffrey series by Jill Churchill, give this series a try. Enjoy!
not too mysterious.......2005-05-09
Lucy Stone is a small town mom. She works at Country Cousins, an LL Beanesque Catalog Company in Tinker's Cove Maine. She works 3rd shift, while on break she sticks her head outside to get some air, only something appears wrong. After she closes the door she can't shake the feeling that she heard something so she opens the door and listens again, this time she hears a car engine, and she goes to investigate, and she finds the owner of Country Cousins in his car wtih a hose running from the exhaust, to the window, an apparent suicide. This leads Lucy, to the who what where when and why.
This book didn't have a lot of action. The story and the murderer just happened to fall into Lucy's lap. She didn't actually do a lot of investigating. There wasn't a lot of questions throughout the book. No red herrings, nothing to really throw you off.
It wasn't a shock to see who committed the murders, I was a lot bored while reading this.
A Tinker Cove Christmas.......2004-12-25
It's only ten days before Christmas, and Tinker Cove resident Lucy Stone has more than enough to do before the holiday. But during her evening break from work at County Cousins, the mail-order store headquartered in town, she discovers a snow-covered car running in the company parking lot, which turns out to contain the body of the company president Sam Miller. Being somewhat of an amateur sleuth herself, Lucy tries to find out who murdered Mr. Miller.
I was a little disappointed in the mystery aspect of this story, because the reader is not really privy to many clues to the murder. It seems that the solution just pops out of thin air! I love the character of Lucy Stone, though, and her cozy town of Tinker Cove. The holiday traditions in the story, including a community cookie exchange, are just right to get the reader in the Christmas spirit! Author Meier has created a believable town and likable protagonist. I would recommend this book more as a cozy seasonal story, with just a touch of mystery in it.

Christmas Cache
Aileen Schumacher's New Mexico engineer and amateur sleuth, Tory Travers, agrees to let her teenage son house-sit at the local university's experimental solar-heated home - and ends up with a challenging Christmas puzzle: a mysterious shooting, a backyard full of buried cash, and original paintings even she can recognize.

The Empty Manger
Bill Crider's Texas sheriff, Dan Rhodes, has his hands full with a "living" manger scene downtown when the body of the local councilwoman is found nearby. Rhodes has a suspect list as long as a string of Christmas lights -- but it's old-fashioned horse sense that leads to a surprise killer.

Excellent Read For Any Season.......2002-01-19
I'm not usually a big fan of short stories, but they are a good way to "try out" several new authors. These are character-driven stories with well-developed plots. I liked these people and would like to spend more time in their fictional worlds! I'm going to look for full-length mysteries by all four authors.
Don't Buy This Book.......2001-12-08
When I bought this I was so excited to begin reading the stories in it. They seemed good when I read the back cover, but boy was I wrong. I wish I had never picked it up.
First of all, the stories deal more with relationships than with mysteries. The stories are cliched, and pretty much no good. The worst story of all was the Christmas Cache. It had nothing to do with Christmas, and barely had a mystery to it. The other stories were pretty much just as boring and slow moving.
If you're looking for a good mystery for the holidays try some by Valerie Wolzien, or Carolyn Hart.

It Certainly Was Murder.......2000-01-02
I loved the setting of the story and Ms. Jordan writes quite "English" so the bits and pieces of the language were fun to read. I did not like having to pay attention to who was talking by glancing at the chapter page...and it sometimes confused me as to whom was talking to whom.
The characters were not very exciting, but I did like Dee and Barry. They appear to live a happy existance with a smattering of fun and adventure added in.
Everyone loves a murder mystery at X-mas...........1999-12-23
but this is not the book. I could tell that from the beginning, Ms Jordan tells the story in the first and third person, often switching between characters until you are confused. She also begins explaining a setting or person and then rambles off into another story again confusing matters. The only thing missing is the story from the dogs point of view. I don't particularly like the "heros" Barry and Dee, they seem to gloat on each other a bit too much, and if you don't care much for them it's hard to enjoy the narriation. The ending was a bit out of thin air, including an interview with the Major that was dropped on the reader in suprise. I also found the relationship between Joyce and Gabe hard to beleive. Still I would to have loved to spend X-mas in a quiet B&B in England, even if there wasn't a murder.

THE reference.......2004-01-14
excellent reference book! contains everything you need to know somewhere in the book, and many parts are overlapping.
It's not particuarly readable for those looking to UNDERSTAND the basics of H&N.
The encylopedia of head and neck imaging.......2003-07-29
The new 4th edition of H&N is the true definitive work on head and neck imaging. This is a MASSIVE text that differs drastically from the 3rd edition. Many sections have been re-organized and revamped. There is no question that it aims to be an all-encompassing, reference text. This is not the book for a resident to "read-through" during their H&N rotation. Harnberger's text is perfect for that role. This text should be present in every neuroradiology dept.'s library to be readily available for use as a REFERENCE. There is no question that this is the true heavyweight H&N imaging reference text. Any other text that purports to be is just kidding itself. I can only imagine how this book will be come the 6th and 7th editions. By then, I hope the Editors follow Dr. Resnick's lead and put out a "baby" 1 volume edition of Head and Neck Imaging. Then again, I guess that's what Dr. Harnsberger's book is for.
Just amazing.......2000-09-08
Dr Hugh Curtin is probably the most prepared head and neck radiologist of the world.
Comprehensive and Authoritative.......2000-01-04
I will be assisting Dr. Curtin and of course find the cases comprehensive, from the archives of the Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary. The pathology spectrum is exhaustive.
*However, it seems that other reviews on this page are likely a practical joke, by mental infants.
YEEEEHAW.......1999-02-20
