The Seasonal Nature of Commodities.......2006-12-17
The one most single thing that makes trading commodities exciting is the fact that they are so seasonal in nature. Think about it, commodities are basically consumable items, such as corn, wheat, beans, gold, and silver. These items are consumable items, and have a very seasonal nature to them. Take wheat for example, we plant it at the same time each year, we harvest it at the same time each year, its open to damage at the same time each year, we take it to market and have storage fees all at the same time each year. This book, The Commodity Trader's Almanac, is the key to being able to take advantage of these trading strategies. Due to these seasonal reoccuring price patterns, we have the ability to profit from such moves each and every year, as markets repeat themselves time and time again. You don't find this type of characteristics with Stocks, you can't do this with Forex, its all about commodities, and this amazing book brings that information out and available to the average trader, information that's only been available to the professional hedge fund traders until now.
I highly recommend this book, I wouldn't even think about trying to trade the commodity markets without it.

What every serious trader needs in their arsenal.......2006-11-23
As a floor trader we are always looking for that "edge" that keeps us ahead of the crowd. I have always used Scott's other works when trading the Ag markets. Now I have that edge for all the markets I trade. This is one of the most useful and concise books on seasonals and fundies I have ever bought!
-Dr. Scott Brown, PhD, a.k.a. "The Wallet Doctor".......2006-11-22
I traded commodities in the 1990's. I have always complained that there is, "no central source for commodity fundamentals!" I found this publication through the recommendation of a highly regarded (and profitable) futures trader I know. I was delightfully surprised to find that it has everything I have ever wanted but never had on commodity fundamentals!
IF YOU PLAN ON TRADING COMMODITIES YOU MUST HAVE THIS BOOK ON YOUR DESK!
-Dr. Scott Brown, PhD, a.k.a. "The Wallet Doctor"
This is THE "Must Have" manual for every commodities trader........2006-11-14
After many, many years of studying and trading the commodities markets, I have come to recognize Scott Barrie as the leading authority on market cycles and seasonal tendencies. There really is no better source in the trading world for this kind of information than the traders almanac, and the kind of inherent value possessed by this easy-to-follow and remarkably expansive collection of market data is rare in the industry. I cannot even fathom the amount of time and expense which it would take for me to compile this kind of knowledge on my own, so I consider the almanac to be an extraordinary value to myself as well as my associates.
All too often, the wide array of trading paraphrenalia pushed onto the market is "all hat and no cattle". The Trader's Almanac is "all cattle"- this is the kind of information that can make a real difference in a trader's bottom line. The dog-eared and well-worn pages of my 'nearly retired' 2006 grain trader's almanac have about had it, but I'm already laying the groundwork for a successful 2007 with a little help from this new expanded edition.

Some good strategies but needs to get updated.......2005-04-07
Momentum stock trading can be one of the fastest and most lucrative ways to make money in the market. This book has good strategies that can help you in your trading efforts but I think it needs to get updated for the benefit of the readers.
We as traders need to constantly keep reading and testing setups and strategies because that's the only way to stay sane and profitable in this business. Fortunatly the internet has some pretty good places where you can gather great information and keep updated with profitable techniques. Some of those websites that I have found to be worthy when it comes to trading momentum stocks is MomentumStockTrading dotcom
When it comes to momentum trading the one thing that we need to keep in mind is that the market will present us with trading and investing opportunities all the time. Not all of them are good enough to consider or even look at. That's why it's vital to know what kind of setups and factors to look for before you enter the next trade.
Once you understand, test and master those setups and factors you can aspire to take advantage of hot stocks consistently either in premarket, market hours and after hours every week.
I wish I could return this book and get my money back.......2004-09-25
Half through the book I realized what a bad investment I had made. I bought the book looking for something more advanced than the hundreds of introductory books on trading, but with great disappointment, because it is 274 pages of NOTHING!.
Only if you want chat about trading.......2002-05-14
The book is really like a chat, it doesn't bring anything deep. It almost don't bring any chart or any new technical analysis, and even their system suggestion is week. For instance, when they explain how to use volume to pick a stock, they even doesn't show a volume chart.
What makes the book more frustating is the way it's written, one may feels that it's missing something or the author is hidden something. Moreover they put some stupid dialogs to ilustrate some situations...
The book really lacks substance!
Thus, buy this book only if you want waste your money and doesn't have anything better to read.
The bottom line of successful Day-Trading in a box.......2001-12-19
A little history goes with my review, inthat Mr. Wolff also runs a trading room, (MTrader), which I traded in about a year after I began trading. After a short stay at MTrader, I left, simply because I believed that adhering to the patterned strategies of Wolff were a bit too involved and things had to be simpler and faster. That was a mistake and after about a year of alternating trading styles, different strategies, indicators, software, etc., I happened on Wolff's book and out of curiosity, ordered and read it.
Plainly stated, what moves stocks is news about what a stock has just done, is about to do or is expected to do and the relative expectations of the investors and traders focusing on that stock. Wolff has studied news related momentum for years and is what I would securely describe as a master of expectation and price movement potential. There are a number of successful traders out there who cut their teeth on his schooling...a few went on to try there own trade site.
The methods are plainly and simply explained and in themselves, not difficult. Perhaps because of this truth, others may dismiss it, however, if you read this book and think about it, you come to one glaring fact...and that is Mr. Wolff explains momentum trading methods that are based on logic of predictable reaction to news related momentum....there are no lagging indicators...complicated formulas...just logic.
The difficulty is the patience and discipline one needs to apply in adhering to and application of the information.
One more thing...I'm trading at MTrader again because with everything else I've tried and I believe I've tried about everything...I found no consistency...I was either burning-hot....or stumbling. Here, I have found consistency that anticipates what a stock will do based on it's news and the market/sector sentiment at that moment.
Highly recommend this read. I hesitate to state this, but would also suggest after reading the book, you try a week trial at the site to see what you read happening...it would be helpful. Or I suppose if you want to save some money, drop by the site for the trial, (it's free) and decide before you buy if it allmakes some sense to you...
Good Trading!
Good usable stuff!!.......2001-12-12
Just finished the book and was very happy with the content. I enjoy trading books in general, but when I can pull one or two money making ideas out of a book, all the better. Ken Wolff posts for RealMoney.Com, and gives great ideas to his readers. The book elaborates on many of his methods like playing momentum both on the upside and the downside with a lot of clarity. More than that, he gives great pointers on keeping a journal of trades, measuring moves of stocks and watching the market..

Lambs Being Led to the Slaughter.......2000-12-21
Taking people with little investment experience and little technology knowledge and teaching them a little about investing in Internet stocks is inappropriate at best. That's like entering elderly people who move slowly into the running of the bulls in Pamplona. People are going to get hurt. Avoid this subject, and this book.
Here are some of the observations the author makes. "Investing in Internet stocks makes good sense." "With information, intelligence, and patience, you will be successfully investing in Internet stocks." "Investors willing to step out just a little on the risk side may find the rewards outstanding." Well, since the book came out, owning any of the Internet stocks has only led to losing a lot of money.
Why then did a rate the book at 2 stars rather than 1? Well, it does have some cautions in it. "Don't put your life savings into Internet stocks . . . ." Amen! You are encouraged to buy quality companies, hold the stocks, keep your expenses low, use mutual funds, watrch your risk (based on your stomach acid levels and sleepless nights), diversify, and have fun. Well, you would have been out of Internet stocks before the book came out if you followed that advice literally.
Many Internet companies are going out of business as they run out of cash. To the book's credit, this risk is finally pointed out briefly on pages 183 and 184.
Naturally, if many stocks were going to fall 50-99%, this was a great time to sell the stocks short. This is first mentioned briefly as an opportunity on page 147. But brand new investors should not be selling short in volatile categories.
Here's my advice. Buy a lottery ticket instead. You have the same chance of making money, and because the unit cost is smaller, you will lose less money.
Stick to things you know where the odds are in your favor. Read Common Sense About Mutual Funds by John Bogle instead if you want a useful perspective on how new investors can make money.

Excellent Primer ý This Book Is on the Money for New Traders.......2001-03-18
The Sixth Market is an excellent primer for new securities traders. It is well written, easy to read, and explains the subject of trading in a simple, but uncomplicated manner. The three authors combined 60 years trading experience provides readers with the basics for understanding what trading is all about and what is required to succeed. The authors are not only traders, but are also educators, and two of them have written numerous books on trading.
The first part of the book provides a short historical perspective on the securities markets from the beginning until the present time (Sixth Market refers to self-directed traders who trade electronically). The book also contains a 14 page glossary and a list of recommended reading, selecting a broker, and getting the right computer and trading setup.
More than half the book is devoted to the Six Steps necessary to prepare for trading. It is a comprehensive approach that includes:
1. Building Self-awareness ( goals, trading style, success factors, and discipline) 2. Learning Market Fundamentals (markets, orders, Level II, short sales, trading rules, selecting broker) 3. Understanding Charts (market psychology, candlesticks, support and resistance, moving averages) 4. Trading From Reliable Chart Setups (High probability patterns, trading plan, gaps, exits) 5. Mastering Your Trading Plan (risk and reward, money management, discipline) 6. I Don't Have the Willpower to be Disciplined (self-directed study)
Theey to trading is a solid education, discipline, and a trading plan. That is what this book covers, and that is why is great for beginners. There is no fluff in this book or war stories just the facts. I highly recommend this book to those just starting out in trading.

Book Description
A stunning achievement in speculative fiction, A Voyage to Arcturus has inspired, enchanted, and unsettled readers for decades. It is simultaneously an epic quest across one of the most unusual and brilliantly depicted alien worlds ever conceived, a profoundly moving journey of discovery into the metaphysical heart of the universe, and a shockingly intimate excursion into what makes us human and unique.
After a strange interstellar journey, Maskull, a man from Earth, awakens alone in a desert on the planet Tormance, seared by the suns of the binary star Arcturus. As he journeys northward, guided by a drumbeat, he encounters a world and its inhabitants like no other, where gender is a victory won at dear cost; where landscape and emotion are drawn into an accursed dance; where heroes are killed, reborn, and renamed; and where the cosmological lures of Shaping, who may be God, torment Maskull in his astonishing pilgrimage. At the end of his arduous and increasingly mystical quest waits a dark secret and an unforgettable revelation.
A Voyage to Arcturus was the first novel by writer David Lindsay (1878–1945), and it remains one of the most revered classics of science fiction. This commemorative edition features an introduction by noted scholar and writer of speculative fiction John Clute and a famous essay by Loren Eiseley.
Download Description
David Lindsay (1874-1945) was a successful British businessman who turned to writing after the first World War. Unfortunately, his most famous work, A Voyage to Arcturus, proved to be a commercial disaster at the time of its release, and he spent the rest of his writing career struggling to achieve commercial success, with little result. A Voyage to Arcturus is a remarkable book on many levels. The Encyclopedia of Fantasy calls it "dazzlingly brilliant" and a "masterpiece." Without doubt, it is the one work for which Lindsay will be remembered. It is an allegorical fantasy, an adventure novel, an interplanetary romance, and an exploration of humanity and sexuality from a time when such topics were largely taboo in the popular press. It provides more than a few fascinating insights into human nature through social Darwinism. And, although Philip Jose Farmer is largely credited with the introduction of sex into science fiction with his groundbreaking 1940s pulp SF story, "The Lovers," Lindsay navigated these waters decades earlier.
Customer Reviews:
Not as good as some reviews led me to believe.......2007-09-01
It's a kind of Pilgrim's Progress from a pagan point of view, which means that while there are some compelling parts, the plot falls apart by the end, becoming downright nonsensical by the end of the book. There are also too many mysteries, which are not solved, leaving the reader wondering what was the point of bringing up some of these things. All in all, rather disappointing, unless you are doing a study on how religious attitudes affect people's thinking.
Mind Expanding.......2007-05-27
This book is categorized as Scifi/Fantasy but it is much more than that. You can argue that this book can be called religious philosophy. It is one of those books that you will never forget and it will have an impact on your life. It truly will expand your thinking and I believe help you grow spiritually. Once you travel with Maskull to Arcturus, when you return you will have a different perspective. I highly recommend this book.
Something infectious about it.......2007-01-08
There is something infectious about Voyage to Arcturus that kept me reading to the end, even though I did not always understand it 100% or like the writing that much. I think the quality that kept me interested lay in the powerful imagination and other-worldly beauty of its imagery.
I should start by warning the potential reader that Voyage to Arcturus, although nominally grouped with science fiction, is not really a science fiction novel. It's more of a fantasy where the action is imagined to take place on another planet, as in the Edgar Rice Burroughs novels or Star Wars, for that matter. VtA is set on Tormance, a planet of the star Arcturus(archaic name for the North Star), which turns out to represent a binary star system.
Also, the plot is not really akin to anything in the current scifi/fantasy pantheon--at least that I'm aware of. It's a complex, symbolic allegory, in the style of Pilgrim's Progress or the George Macdonald books. In particular, I think Lindsay was directly inspired by the Golden Key, which you should read only after finishing VtA, as I did, because it might actually weaken the experience. However, the allegory of VtA is not restricted to the Judeo-Christian world-view as in its predecessors, but appears to examine multiple world-views, religions, and life philosophies of human history, although not necessarily in the order of human history.
The plot consists of what is actually a journey ON Arcturus, not TO Arcturus. The journey is taken by the central character Maskull, an earthling, who subsequently explores the geography on Tormance, meeting a series of the planet's inhabitants. On Tormance, Maskull finds that he is not restricted by abstract laws of humankind, nor even the physical realities of Earth, at times even sprouting new limbs and sense organs!
As a second cautionary note, I fear the two drab introductory chapters about how Maskull came to Tormance may have lost the book a number of potential readers over the years, as they nearly lost me. The opening begins with a seance and seems to prepare the reader for some sort of ghost story, which greatly belies the flavor of the work. You should definitely at least skim to where Maskull begins his journey on Tormance in the red desert, as this represents the true starting point of the story.
Again, I find that the main strength of VtA is in the fantastic vision and power of its better scenes. The other-worldly images are reminiscent of the great video games of the late 80s, such as Space Harrier, Rygar, and possibly the animation of Aeon Flux. The reader should alow himself to be pulled along through the book by the story and suprising imagery, rather than attempting to decode the allegory like solving a Rubix Cube. As the powerful scenes and images replay themselves in your imagination, the sense of the work will begin to seep into your subconscious. (I think) Some of my favorite scenes/characters include Oceaxe, Matterplay, and the initial encounter with Sullenbode. But something different will take the fancy of each reader, I am sure.
As a final note on the editions, you should seek out the Ballantine Adult Fantasy edition, for virtue of the superior cover art, which adds to the reading experience.
Stranger and Stranger.......2006-04-27
'A Voyage to Weirdness' is a more apt title for Lindsay's classic. There is a lot I didn't like about this book though the ending did redeem it somewhat. However, it took over 200-something pages to get there and I'm still not sure if it was worth my time.
For one thing, it seemed as though Lindsay made his world as weird as possible, not for any special meaning, but simply for the sake of weirdness. That's fine in itself, but it worked to make everything pretty meaningless on the whole. Consequently, it was slow plodding along through paragraphs of description that seemed to go pretty much nowehere and have no relevance to the main story. Parts of the world sounded downright juvenile and made me wonder if I was reading a book adaptation of a sci-fi B-movie.
Another problem I found was that, even though I can bring Lindsay's world to mind down to the minute details, I found myself cold towards the characters themselves. Maskull himself had no redeeming qualities to actually make me feel for his plight and by the end of the novel I found I had forgotten all about him. This may have been intended, but it the whole novel left no impact on me.
Despite all this, however, the ending was unexpected and did make me slightly glad I read through it to the end. Lindsay's was clearly intending a message with this novel, but I don't believe he completely succeeded at it. When taking as a whole, this novel could have been exceptionally better and much more remarkable if Lindsay could have stuck more to the meaning of his story instead of bogging it down with endlessly weird descriptions that went absolutely nowhere.
You may not think this is important but.......2006-04-15
... Contary to what another reviewer says below, Lindsay didn't die young and I'm pretty sure sure he didn't commit suicide (It's many years since I read a very interesting biography, but I think he died from something like a tooth infection that he didn't get seen to properly. I think he was about 69 when he died).
Anyway, a *****************ing great book. Precursor and big influence to a lot. And certainly not as 'recognised' as it should be....
