Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Don't Bother.......2007-09-09

My first encounter with Wilbur Smith and most definitely the last. Clumsy, incredibly wooden writing, cheap run-down metaphors of the old "The desert...she is like a woman, dangerous, fickle..." type. Ugh. The narrative resides firmly in the white, Euroecentric, Romance of/in Empire genre of pre-WWI. The Enemy is the "(Islamic) fanatic Mahdi", the good guys are the - brace yourself - white English, with their finely (English-) trained Egyptian soldiers and the Christian Abyssinians. Reading this, I certainly felt it is no accident that so many Americans are baffled by the Middle East.

The story line follows several characters with great predictability. In the end - who'd have guessed? - the clever, wily British officer slays the emir who enslaved him. Wow. Never saw that one coming. In addition, as a number of reviewers have noted, the ending chapters are incredibly rushed with a most bizarre "Wrap-up" at the end. Of course, the wrap-up is Whites Only. We do know that some of the Sidekicks of Color, those faithful servants to the white principals, end up OK...in that they continue to serve their masters.
What is most disappointing is not that someone would write this stuff - hey, people write anything...it's that it is so popular. Shame on us, Readers.

A Rich Historical Novel .......2007-05-13

Smith takes you to late 19th Century Northern Africa in Triumph of the Sun. The novel begins slowly but intentionally like a steam locomotive. He builds the characters, environment and culture for the story very methodically. Readers may wonder in the beginning when this novel is going to get going. Once the foundation is laid, the action builds and progresses. Smith writes exceptionally vivid scenes that put you right in the middle of the desert clashes between British & Islamic forces.

Smith does not avoid tragedy. His novels grasp reality and present the good and the evil of humanity. I think his character development is as good as any contemporary writer I have read.

As one previous reviewer has noted, Smith does succinctly wrap up the conclusion of the novel. His notes pertaining to how the characters lived out their lives are similar to the end notes on the screen of a movie that give a brief summary of future events. I didn't mind the wrap up but some of it could have been left to the reader's imagination.

Once you get into this novel, it is enjoyable and captivating.

Hurry up and finish.......2007-01-09

This was your normal Smith novel storyline that any who have read the majority of his work enjoys, however, I think it needed about 200 to 300 more pages to equal any of his better novels. About two thirds of the way through the adventure he started rushing as if he were trying to make a deadline or something. Even if it was a not to bad finish, I felt that there was much more that could be told to have made it a lot better read.

I first started reading Wilbur Smith while living overseas. His books were not then available in the US. This latest Courtney adventure continues with as much excitement, historical fact, and great characterization as past works. I'm very pleased that his artistry is now readily available. I have his complete collection, all of which I've read at least twice.

Plot progresses very slowly.......2006-12-12

I have been a great fan of Wilbur Smith for many years and own and have read all is previous books with great captivation.

In "The Triumph of the Sun" I find that his plot moves forward ponderously slowly and becomes a real effort to read. I must confess I read about half the book and it is still lying incomplete and hopefully will get through the rest one day soon. This is so much in contrast to many of his previous books which I found so exciting and hard to put down, often burning the midnight oil to get to the end.

More Lost Cities, please.......2001-07-05

The Lost City stories in the Dinotopia series are among the best. This one is no exception. My son enjoyed it a lot, though he is starting to outgrow the age group. For others with this problem, try DINOSAUR WARS, by Thomas Hopp, which has a similar feel, though the dinosaurs are not nearly so NICE.

DinoTopia book review.......2006-10-19

This is a ok book its kinda for younger kids.Its about a shipwreck and alot of kids get stranded on a island Andrew Lian Ned they look to see if anyone else was on the island they were on. But when they were looking they encountered dinosaurs and they get scared and hide. So now they must over come that great fear. Also during the middle of the book they see them starting to fight and they try to kill the dinosaurs and it has a really suprising ending.

Even though this book is short, it is filled with action for a person of any age to read. In the story it also gives the story of the sea monster, the Kraken. I like the creativity of Scott Ciencin's books on Dinotopia, as well as the Dinoverse series. At first you thik that the Unrivaled are going to invade, but later you find out that they are the most peaceful race on Dinotopia. Congatulations, Ciencin, you've done it again.

or anyone else, for that matter! I own this book and have reread it a few times. Three friends journey into the Lost City of Halycon, and what they find is not what they expect. They meet new friends and face new challenges. But will it be enough to stop the power-hungry Lord Lucius? You'll have to read it to find out! This book has adventure and excitement, and some humor mixed in also. Over all, an excellent book.

In the southern areas of the Indian Ocean, there exists an Atlantis, not solely for humans, but for what was previously thought extinct - dinosaurs. These unlikely companions co-exist in harmony, though not all of them, and have worked over the ages to build the grandest utopia ever. The peoples of this `lost isle' have long since shed ideas such as money, violence, and self interest in favor of a better civilization. So when a group of murdering, pilfering, greedy - in short, the scum of the earth - pirates somehow land their ship amidst the dangerous coral reefs, the citizens of Dinotopia are in grave danger from the outside world. What follows is a standard adventure story, filled with multiple kidnappings, breathtaking chases, unexpected turncoats, and eye popping surprises. The reader is reeled in from the beginning, and given a mental thrill that stays long past the end of the page. Yet, with a few careful additions, Alan Dean Foster creates a tale that far surpasses any standard story.
Here, aside from providing entertainment, Alan Dean Foster also conveys a concept with a philosophical bent. Dinotopia is painted as heaven on earth, would this have been something we could have attained? Just as Dinotopia is the perfect society, the pirates represent humanity; which, from their actions, lead to the questions, do we destroy everything in sight if we cannot have it? Is our self interest so encompassing? Are we really as vile as those pirates are? There will be many who do not look beyond the veneer of an engrossing novel, but for those who do, Dinotopia Lost offers much re-reading value.

Exceeded My Expectations.......2003-07-24

I've read some of Alan Dean Foster's earlier works and found them to be well-written, but just not my type, I suppose. My friend and I are always exchanging good reads, and this came up in the conversation. I haven't read any of the other Dinotopia books, but I totally fell in love with this one. It has all of the elements of a good story: exotic settings, secret civilizations, kidnapping, rescue, pirates, and keen suspense. It took it a while to pick up at the beginning, but it just soared for the remaining pages. A page-turner to the end, this exceeded my expectations with flying colors.

Dinotopia Lost is an exceptionally written masterpiece, and anyone who says otherwise hasn't read it! The beginning dragged because it was setting the scene and characters, but Alan Foster made Dinotopia seem like an actual spot on the map. It was full of traps, pirates, kidnapping, rescue, amazing creatures, and everything else that is essential to a spectacular fantasy novel. This book is truly a work of art that should be enjoyed by all.

A notch or two above the original Dinotopia books........2002-09-13

A few of the reviewers below slam "Dinotopia Lost" by Alan Dean Foster because they claim that the language is too difficult for children. But in doing so, they forget to look at its merits as, simply, a book.

This is an excellent novel that I, a college junior at time of writing, have read and reread numerous times. I personally feel that Foster managed to develop the characters of the Denisons to a level that even James Gurney, Dinotopia's creator, was unable to. He infuses the new characters with much three-dimensionality as well, especially the wild and wily pirate captain Brognar Blackstrap and his intellectual first mate, Priester Smiggens. And Tarqua, a character who shows up near the end of the book, is such a delight that if I tell you more about him I'll ruin some of the book's best moments.

Please, don't judge this as a "children's book." Judge it as a full-fledged novel, like I did.

dinotopia is a lost cause........2002-05-29

Dinoptopia lost was a short, rather boring book about a group of pirates who land on the shore of dinotopia. The plot is pointless and not enjoyable. Foster does not use much detail in describing the characters or the island, and the reader is left with a vague kind of hazy idea of what things are like. Illustrations would have been a big help. I did like the idea of the book (an islnad where dinosaurs and humans live together) but i think Foster could have done a better job with it.
