Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description
The snow is falling on the ancient streets of Rome. And in the heart of the city, under the Pantheon’s great dome, a woman’s body lies on the marble floor, carefully positioned with a gruesome carving on her back....In David Hewson’s ingenious new thriller, this horrific murder hurtles Rome’s police force into a collision with U.S. agents–and a secret that has festered for fifteen years, now unraveling in the world’s most enigmatic city.
When Detective Nic Costa arrives at the scene, he is unprepared for what he finds, or for the ambush that leaves his only witness vanished into the night. The dead woman was American. Within hours, U.S. agents descend with a take-no-prisoners style and a shocking story to tell: the killer has struck before, in monuments all over the world, leaving the same cryptic message carved onto the bodies of the victims.
But one agent, beautiful, blond Emily Deacon, has yet another story to tell Nic–about a stunning act of deception that may lead back to the U.S. government, and her own chilling, personal connection to the killer. Now, as the first murder leads to more grisly slayings and a motley crew of veteran Roman cops jousts with the Americans, Nic is pulled into a woman’s harrowing search for the truth…a search that will take them both into the mind of a madman, into a shocking conspiracy–and into a dark episode in a nation’s long-forgotten past.
From its haunting opening to its nerve-shattering climax,
The Sacred Cut defies all our expectations, proving once again the unique and compelling genius of David Hewson.

Customer Reviews:
Keeps getting better.......2007-06-30
Reviewers of this book seem divided, and I have to agree with those who enjoyed The Sacred Cut. What I admire about author Hewson is simply that he is a literate writer who knows how to create likeable, thoroughly human protagonists. They're not typical, they're not omnipotent, they're not even at the top of their field or their game. Nic is just learning, and gets better with every case. Peroni is a good cop who's made a serious mistake but takes responsibility for his own choices. Teresa is a tough as nails pathologist who is scared about love but willing to stick her neck out and hope for the best. As for his villains, Hewson also makes them credibly human. Terribly twisted but human. Some of the passages relating the killer's train of thought are downright chilling. While technically a police procedural, The Sacred Cut is more a story of ordinary, well-trained people trying to solve a horrendous crime and prevent its repetition while preserving their own sense of morality. If the plotting has flaws, they are more than over-ridden by Hewson's characterizations and by his remarkably cliche-free prose. The setting in the timeless city of Rome is icing on the cake.
Failed Formula for Success.......2006-11-27
Mystery writing is always formula writing, but the better ones at least manage to add enough frills and gewgaws to conceal the equal signs and brackets. None of that here, we have formula and not much else. Lots of shadowy mumbo-jumbo in the plot, tracing vaguely -- but never intelligibly or convincingly -- back to the Gulf War. We don't expect fully drawn characters in detective procedurals, but most of these folks are as interesting as a lump of dough. Even the bad guy, it turns out, is pretty soft-hearted for a serial killer. And by the way, if this is a Nic Costa story, why doesn't Nic have any lines? At least three other characters figure more importantly in the investigation than he does.
Finally, in a book by a Brit, set in Rome with an Italian detective as its key character, I found it odd that the murderer, his victims, and the inevitable perky young blonde threatened by him, were all... Americans!? Just guessing here, but I envision publisher, editor, or author Hewson himself deciding to throw some Americans into the picture to enhance sales in the big U.S. market.
Very poor.......2006-11-06
Nic Costa, the purported hero, must be the least interesting Italian male on the planet. The heroine is an impressively boring and dim American. The appealing setting, Rome during a snowstorm, is ground to death. The interesting plot idea quickly dissipates, the perp being revealed early on. His motivations are repeated, confusingly, ad nauseam; they remain incomprehensible at the end. The fate of some characters, including one of the bad guys, is left unresolved.
Another distracting note is that Hewson doesn't know enough about the American language to be writing from our viewpoint. Usage and spelling are wrong throughout. Spelling might be excused, but not usage--when the voice is American.
Hard to follow, hard to connect.......2006-07-23
Ar some point, a story has to "set its hook." You have to get interested. Alas, The Sacred Cut, by David Hewson, never gets to that point. From characters that are hard to follow in the context of the story, to a Kurdish refugee who is inserted into the story for I don't know what reason, to a ho-hum "confusing lines between bad guys and good guys" type plot, The Sacred Cut never really takes off.
Can't win them all.
Not an easy read or listen.......2006-07-21
I listened to this book on CD format. The readers voice was too low to hear at times, forcing me to back-track and turn it up. Not recommended for listening if you are driving.
The "blurbs" from reviewers caused me to think this was a "puzzle" type story. It was compared to "Di Vinci Code". I have no idea why. This is just a murder mystery set in Rome. There are no religious overtones at all. The author tried to link in some ancient Roman history but, all that did was take up space in the story-line. It was more closely tied to modern times, with a de-ranged killer. Desert Storm plays a role.
All in all, a good book, but, not one I'd pay full price for.

a few thoughts.......2004-12-31
The novel, if it can be called that, was clearly designed for the younger reader, at least as far as the plot and word choice go. The actual meat of the story strikes me as somewhat less appropriate for younger readers, but in a day and age where the average 3 year old has seen sex on T.V. several times and witnessed hundreds of murders as well, there probably isn't much that the average 14-year old hasn't seen already that's in the book.
I should note that there is, of course, nothing graphic, with regard to violence or otherwise, in the book. The characters are painted well to appeal to a younger teenage audience, particularly the main character who, while being transparent in his entirety, fits well in a book designed for younger readers.
As the first book I've read by this author, Castle of the Deception was a complete disappointment, and it will be some time before I consider looking at another of her works.
Great book!.......2003-10-21
This book is great. The whole series is great. Mercedes Lackey is my favorite author. The only problem I had with it was the cover, since it showed a blond haired sorcerous with them instead of the dark elf.
Ultimate in fantasy entertainment.......2001-04-17
Hail! It is of the utmost importance that I state the fact that Mercedes Lackey wrote this book for a younger audience. That said, it was when I was in this age range (about 12-14) that I read this book 2 and a half times through. I could not get enough of the imaginative thrill that flowed from the pages. It was and is my first and favorite fantasy book. You're in for a good time while reading this!
Very good book!!!.......2000-08-30
Even though I'm only 14 and have read very few books, I think this is one of the best I will ever read. I have one question to anybody who reads this, how many books are in The Bard's Tale series? I am also buying another book from the series, Fortress of Frost and Fire. I hear it's also a good book.
Didn't compare at all with the rest of her work........1999-03-09
Having run out of Herald/Companion fantasies to devour, I decided to give the Bards a chance. Maybe this wasn't the best one to start with, I thought it was simple and predictable and altogether fake. There just wasn't any of the magic that makes her other novels enchanting.

Solid fun.......2006-09-13
The Chilling Deception continues the Guinevere Jones series, written by Jayne Ann Krentz as Jayne Castle. This is the second book in this extremely HTF series, the first one being The Desperate Game.
The Chilling Deception was nice, though not as much as The Desperate Game. Still, it's a fun, quick read.
Guinevere is worried. She's been temping for a land developer involved in a huge deal, and she can tell the man is stressed out. It seems to her he's actually excessively stressed out, even for such a big deal. There's something going on, she's sure, and when she finds a gold-plated gun in his private restroom, she begins to worry he might be dangerously depressed.
So when Vandyke, her temporary boss, announces they're to spend the winter weekend at a resort on the San Juan islands (just off Seattle), to finalize the deal, Gwen manages to convince him that it might be a good idea to bring Zac with them to help him guard the briefcase with the bids.
But convincing Vandyke is easy compared to convincing Zac to go. This is very definitely not the type of business he was thinking of when he opened his security consulting company. But when he calms down he realizes that, hey, free weekend at a resort with his er, girlfriend, the same girlfriend who's been a bit hard to pin down lately. Plus, that way she won't be going there alone with all those men (Zac does have his old-fashioned moments), so he kindly decides to accept the job.
But what seems like a made-up job ends up being something very different, when it turns out Vandyke really has reason to be a bit nervous.
The good? Zac and Gwen together are fun. The chemistry's there in spades, and I loved the way they danced around each other trying to have The Talk. Both really want the same thing, but they feel they have to gently manouver the other in that direction, not realizing they're both trying to do the same. In the end, there really isn't that much progress in their relationship from the point in which we left them at the end of TDG, but what was there was satisfying.
The blah? The plot. Not bad, but not particularly compelling, either. There's always a bit of dejá vu with JAK, and it was pretty intense here.
The bad? It seems I've been beset by clumsily sequel-baiting authors lately. TCD was just another example. The last chapter is actually the first chapter of The Sinister Touch. What's wrong with having it as an excerpt?
All in all, though, it was a really fun way to spend a couple of hours.
2nd Guinevere Jones book is a blast.......2005-11-27
If you like Jayne Krentz you'll love the set of four Guinevere Jones books she wrote as Jayne Castle.
In The Chilling Deception, Guinevere Jones and Zachariah Justis are one step into a relationship but they haven't had 'the talk'. Guinevere finds a gun in her (temporary) boss's executive washroom and figures that he's in some kind of trouble. Adding up Vandyke's nervous behavior, anxious calls from his wife, and the gun, Guinevere figures she has an excuse to have Vandyke invite Zach along to guard his papers to a weekend meeting at a hotel in the San Juan Islands.
She's all set to give him 'the talk' (Where is this relationship going?) but Zach has more of a wild weekend in mind. Both of their plans are frustrated by Vandyke's desire to have Zach stick as close as possible, not to the plans, but to himself. And Zach didn't even bring his gun.
I enjoyed the story very much, including the teaser for the next book in the series. I think Jayne Castle / Krentz really shines when it comes to witty and exasperated dialog in the face of danger, and her characters are developed enough to work on their relationship rather than having all problems go away in the face of attraction. Highly recommended.

bad bad...but weirdly, good........2002-01-24
If this is majikal, then I must be a djinn. This is a sort of softcore porno, disguised as a D&D type adventure book.
Our 'heroine', a sorceress of some sort, trolls the woods, looking to be molested by guys, so she can get 'essence' from the sex. Inevitably, she wanders into a castle containing a vampyress. Wacky lesbian antics ensue (replete with breast biting) somehow, she escapes in time to help a load of soldiers go to war. How, by bedding the entire army! way to go!
