James Patterson's Cradle and All pits the intensity of faith against the certainties of science within an arena of Millennial tensions. A reworking of his 1980 apocalyptic thriller Virgin, this remodeled version boasts a genuinely unnerving premise, amplified with Patterson's fast-paced, uncluttered prose.
In the midst of a series of unexplained plagues and famines, two teenage girls are heavily pregnant, despite being virgins. According to the sacred prophecies of Fatima, one will bear the child of Christ and the other, the spawn of Satan. Both Anne Fitzgerald, a former nun turned private detective, and the Vatican's Father Rosetti are sent to investigate. But which girl carries which child? The possibility of a miracle will be tainted with great suffering before the awful, unexpected truth is revealed. As the action moves speedily from the hallowed halls of the Vatican to the media frenzy of America to the small-town hysteria of Ireland, Patterson divines considerable suspense from the novel's central premise, tackling issues of faith with admirable aplomb:
"All over the world, after all the years of difficulty, decades of diminishing spirituality, so many people still believed.... Everywhere, people talked of the Apocalypse, perhaps the end of the world. Which explained why so many people were suddenly going to church."
A relentless pace culminating in a superbly twisted ending won't disappoint Patterson's faithful followers, and may even convert some new members. --Danny Graydon

Poorly done.......2007-08-19
I literally threw this book across the room because it was so bad. There is so much wasted time on inconsequential characters and scenes and the ending makes you guess his editor just told him to wrap it up. I will never waste my time on a Patterson book.
not typical patterson.......2007-07-10
If you are a fan of the Alex Cross series or the Numbered series, this is not familiar ground. It's not even reminiscent of the flying kids series - though it is as fantastical.
The story is told in typical Patterson meter - short, fast-paced chapters that grab you and are easy to read. However, as is stated above, this is a rewrite of an older book, and I think it shows.
The subject matter is religious and apocalyptic. The characters are good, but I am not at all drawn by the subject material - virgin births and plagues. I ended up skimming quite a bit of the story and still was not surprised by the conclusion of the story. There is an epilogue which is almost distracting in its demeanor and tone.
I read it; I'm not sorry I did. But I wouldn't highly recommend it.

Preposterous Story and Reading.......2007-07-04
This preposterous story is full of hocus pocus based on a "third prophecy from Fatima" that is totally inconsistent with the actual prophecy (revealed a few years after its publication). Thus it's hard to suspend belief long enough to buy into the premise of a cataclysmic battle between good and evil with two pregnant virgins at the vortex. Further stretching credibility, the audiobook is read by a woman with a clear west coast accent although her character is supposedly from Boston. There's much here that doesn't ring true, reinforcing the observations of others that the whole production (a rewrite of an earlier novel from Patterson's more obscure days) seems like a slapdash effort by the author and publisher to turn a quick profit.
The book does have Patterson's usual crisp and well written dialog but his more recent efforts that don't contain hokey supernatural elements are much more satisfying.
Patterson's worst.......2007-03-03
James Patterson is one of my favorite authors, but this book is perhaps his worst piece of work. Everyone I talked to said their was a big surprise ending, so for this reason, I kept reading. The ending was a surprise, I admit. My problem with the book is the subject matter/story line and I did not care for it very much. I kept thinking about the sacrilegious overtones throughout this book. It should of been billed as a work of science fiction.
disappointing.......2007-02-17
I am a big fan of James Patterson (especially the Alex Cross series). However, this book was a let down. It started off well, but then the ending just fell apart and ruined the story.

A STINKER..........2006-12-24
This is a bad book with a fairly simple story line. There are two young girls, both pregnant and both claiming to be virgins. One, Kathleen, rich and privileged, lives in the United States. The other, Colleen, lives in a small country village in Ireland. According to a secret missive from Our Lady of Fatima, one virgin will give birth to Satan's child, the Anti-Christ, while the other will give birth to the child of God, a new Messiah.
Meanwhile, all over the world apocalyptic manifestations are sprouting up. Pestilence, drought, famine, and other evil portents seem to dominate the global landscape. Something strange is going on, and it appears as if the forces of good and evil are gathering about, girding themselves for one final battle.
Father Rosetti, an emissary from the Vatican, has been entrusted with a secret mission by the Pope relative to these two young virgins, and it is one that will sorely try his faith. Meanwhile, former nun turned private investigator, Anne Fitzgerald, has been retained by the Archdiocese of Boston to look into the phenomena of a possible immaculate conception with regards to these two young women who inhabit disparate worlds. Anne must not only confront the unknown in order to assist these two young women; she must also confront her own powerful emotions and a destiny she could not have imagined.
The book is riddled with ridiculous cliches from the horror genre and lacks any real tension. First released in 1980 under the title "Virgin", this book has been updated by the author to make it appear as if it were a more contemporary work. It has now resurfaced under the title "Cradle and All" in order to capitalize on the author's success with his Alex Cross series of thrillers. Unfortunately, it is not cut from the same bolt of cloth and lacks the quality of both writing and plot that earmarks his Alex Cross novels.

Welcome to Twin Oaks -- the new B and B in Cooper's Corner. Some come for pleasure, others for passion -- and one to set things straight . . .
Check-in: When Tom Christen, the new preacher in Cooper's Corner, found a baby on his doorstep, he wasn't about to give the infant to some bureaucrat. And Judge Anne Vandree might have had hair like a halo -- but she was definitely a bureaucrat, informing him that by law he must surrender the baby. So Tom told her the truth. He was the baby's father!
Checkout: Anne sensed there was more to the story -- especially when Tom refused to reveal the mother's identity. But Tom's protectiveness and honesty attracted Anne. She'd had her share of deceitful heartbreakers, and Anne placed a high value on a man's truthfulness. At least Tom was a man who hadn't lied to her. Or had he?

Worth Every Star.......2003-05-11
I bought this book after reading a very high recommendation of it by Reviewer Debbie Richardson in Bookclub Magazine. Ms. Richardson was not wrong. Cradle and All is a well-crafted mystery/romance with intelligence and heart. I could not put it down. Every time I thought I had figured out what was going on, the author presented me with a new twist. She/he kept me guessing right to the end. But as good as the mystery was, I think I liked the romance even better. The hero and heroine in this story do not have typical professions. He's an Episcopal priest. And whereas I am not of that religion, for me this hero embodies the best of what a man can be. I absolutely fell in love with him. The heroine is a judge. Her responses to the surprises that happen in the story are intelligent, unexpected, fun and full of heart. I applauded her at every turn. Altogether this is an engaging read with refreshing characters and plot. Absolutely worth five stars.

Book Description
This study covers the latent demand outlook for wood beds and headboards excluding cribs, cradles, Hollywood beds, and youth beds and all custom furniture sold at retail directly to the customer across the regions of Greater China, including provinces, autonomous regions (Guangxi, Nei Mongol, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Xizang - Tibet), municipalities (Beijing, Chongqing, Shanghai, and Tianjin), special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau), and Taiwan (all hereafter referred to as “regions”). Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across some 1,100 cities in Greater China. For each major city in question, the percent share the city is of the region and of Greater China is reported. Each major city is defined as an area of “economic population”, as opposed to the demographic population within a legal geographic boundary. For many cities, the economic population is much larger that the population within the city limits; this is especially true for the cities of the Western regions. For the coastal regions, cities which are close to other major cities or which represent, by themselves, a high percent of the regional population, actual city-level population is closer to the economic population (e.g. in Beijing). Based on this “economic” definition of population, comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city’s marketing and distribution value vis-à-vis others. This exercise is quite useful for persons setting up distribution centers or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each region and city of influence, latent demand estimates are created for wood beds and headboards excluding cribs, cradles, Hollywood beds, and youth beds and all custom furniture sold at retail directly to the customer. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

pshchobabble.......2006-02-12
This book was an absoulute waste of time. Just more phschobabble from a corporate sell-out (because she sued, to be the only one who could channel ramtha) who wants to enlighten people to be their own gods. Give a break and find the truth out there within yourself.
Profound and challenging information.......2004-04-09
The information in this book offers great insight into the sacred knowledge of the "Egyptian Book of the Dead" and what the judgment of Ani and the "weighing of his heart against the feather" was really about.
It captures and explains with great detail what was at the heart of the spirituality of the ancient schools of Egypt and the Mystery Schools of Wisdom. Ramtha succeeds in making the ancient knowledge easily available for anyone to understand and make it part of everyday living.
The book delves into important questions about near-death experiences, reincarnation, and how our future incarnation is prepared before birth. It also offers a great and practical way for understanding the psychology of the "shadow self" and how to bring it out to light for personal healing and integration.
The book offers for the first time a detailed glossary and subject index that make Ramtha's unique teachings way easier to understand and study from a specific topic or subject of interest. This is a real plus.
This book will certainly give you great food for contemplation that will make you take a good honest look at yourself and want to be greater and broader minded. It certainly made me see things from a different perspective.
Valuable Information.......2003-12-01
To those who are interested in this kind of material, this book is a real find! While the subject matter might not interest a lot of people, those who are devotees of ancient wisdom material will see this as insightful and gifted. I am on my sixth read-thru just because it contains so much material it's hard to grab it all the first couple of times. I found the information incredibly user-friendly -- once I got it down. I think having read this has changed the course of my path entirely. If you are someone who has been in their own pattern of spiritual growth for sometime and are looking for ways to fine-tune and move your spiritual experience into the fast lane. This could be just what you are looking for.

Amazing story!.......2003-02-15
If you were a fan of the movies or just an anime fan this is not to be missed. The story differs extensively from the movies but you can see how it influenced the shows plot lines. Focusing entirely on Karla you will be surprised how far the story came to become a 13 episode hit. The Manga is nothing short of spectacular and the story is outstanding. The artwork is well done and in b/w loses nothing. All your favorite characters are here. This is a must pick up if you loved the show.
