Karen M. Haughey is the most incredible artist I have come across in years. Her paintings are not only beautiful but based upon messages/visions from our guardians. The colors she used are angelic in themselves. A must see book!

Demon Angel.......2007-09-24
Demon Angel (Guardians book/story #2) tells the story of Lilith (half-demon) and Hugh Castleford (a Guardian). From the first moment they meet, their relationship is a battle of wills, wits and then swords. Spanning nearly 800 years from the 13th Century, to the present day where Hugh and Lilith face a possibly unsurmountable threat to themselves. This is a much more complicated story than boy meets girl, boy saves girl, they live happily ever after.
I had read very good reviews of this book, but when I started it I was slightly wary. Number one, because it starts in 1217 and I am not a big historical fan and also I really am not keen on the cover (I know it's what's inside the book that counts but there you go.) However, my bias was quickly swept away as I was drawn into Hugh and Lilith's tale.
Lilith is another of what I'm coming to think of as 2007's demon heroines (see also Jesse from Hell's Belles and Georgina from Succubus Blues). What I find interesting about her is how complex she is, in parts of the book she seems to revel in what she does because it's necessary. And then there are the parts where she is disgusted with herself - both facets of her character equally well written.
Hugh is perhaps the perfect hero for Lilith, in that he doesn't let her get away with anything - even when, perhaps, he should. Their relationship is a very slow burn, starting out more adversarial than romantic, but in the end they are both willing to give up everything for the other.
It's great to find another series with well-developed characters and plot (more on that in a moment). The secondary characters - Colin the vampire, Sir Pup, Savitri are not just there to support Hugh and Lilith - they have their own problems to deal with. Problems which appear to have far-reaching consequences.
I've mentioned how much I loved the complexities of this story and it's characters and I apologise if I appear to contradict myself here. If I had a problem with the story it was that in places I was left scratching my head as to what exactly was going on and at some points what the characters were talking about as well. This is probably most in reference to the bargain made towards the end. Though it happened in a couple of other places. If you can bear with that, this is a book that is well worth reading and the start of another must buy paranormal series.

Great, Sexy read.......2007-09-01
This book was a little out of my norm for summer reading. I have to admit it was just a little racier than I was expecting. So, as long as really hot sex scenes and blood and gore (the science fiction portion of the book) don't offend you, you will love this book. Also, there is a book before this, don't bother. You will learn everything you need to know in this, book number 2. I can't wait to read the next one.

I wanted to add my review because of how much I appreciate Ms. Brook's writing of her "anti-heroine" Lilith. I think it took a lot of vision and courage to write such a spiky, strong, sometimes not likeable but always fascinating character, and I'm glad the publisher took it on. It's a breath of fresh air amidst other writers who are creating more stock characters whose names and stories are interchangeable. Great job, Ms. Brooks, and keep up the creative innovation!
No instant gratification, but still satisfying........2007-08-23
At over four hundred pages, with very small type I might add, and covering a story spanning over eight hundred years, Demon Angel is not your typical quick fix erotic read. It is really two books in one.
The first part, one of the other readers refers to it as a "hundred page prolog", sets the stage and shows the evolution in the relationship between the main characters: Hugh, initially a teenage knight, and Lilith, a demonic temptress and daughter of Lucifer, out to collect souls for her father. Hugh is unpredictable and intriguing to the jaded Lilith and Lilith's wickedness, humor and wisp of hidden vulnerablility captures Hugh. As a side product of foiling Lilith's initial attempt on his soul, Hugh gains immortality and they become adversaries in the battle over humanity -- one on the side of light and the other on the side of darkness. Dueling with words and swords for hundreds of years, until at last Hugh breaks and looses his idealism.
The last part of the book moves more along the lines of typical paranormal romance and finally fulfills its erotic promise, but with more depth and intelligence than is found in typical paranormals. The author manages the romantic and plot elements in a way that increases tension and yet provides a satisfying resolution. This was not an easy read, I had to slow myself down to make sure that I didn't miss important details but it was well worth the effort. I am now off to reread her related shorts in Wild Thing and Hot Spell (The Guardians, Book 1) (The Breed Next Door) (The Countess's Pleasure) (The Blood Kiss)(Falling For Anthony) which, didn't stand alone well when I read them before, but will I think fill in some details in preparation for reading her next book The Guardians: Demon Moon (Book 4) (Berkley Sensation).
If you love L.K Hamilton you will love this book........2007-08-08
If you've enjoyed the moral ambiguity of Anita Blake and Patricia Brigg's Mercy Thompson and Lora Leigh's Harmony's Way and Becca from He Loves Me Love Me Hot then meet Lilith, definitely a heroine with a difference. For almost a millennium this minion of Satan has been tormenting and seducing Hugh, one of the noblest of guardians. Even though they are sworn enemies, neither can quite bring themselves to put an end to the other, but 16 years ago feeling that there was no other way to save this demon who had somehow come to mean more to him than his duty, Hugh did the unthinkable, killing Lilith before falling to earth as a human. Now Lilith is back and everything has changed, with the battle been good and evil more finely balanced than ever these two previous adversaries have to learn to trust each other, which is easier said than done, especially since Lilith isn't a great fan of humans, finding them weak and whiny. You'll love this heroine who isn't afraid to tap into her dark side, but matches perfectly with Hugh's sense of honour, and without Hugh's heavenly duty to hold him back the unexplored passion between them finally has a chance to erupt. Intense, dark and passionate Meljean Brook has a created a fascinating world filled with shades of grey, and we can't wait to see more.

Celeste Messer's The Adventures Of Andi O'malley is a five volume series of chapter books for young readers where the stories showcase the concept that by doing a good deed for one person, that person will then do a good deed for another, and so on. This is a lovely publication on hand fans. It gives a concise and accurate history of fans - including some new information. It concentrates on European fans up to the early 20th century and is beautifully illustrated with examples from the Victoria and Albert musuem in London. If you are interested in fans either as a costume accessory, or because you collect them this book is worth adding to your collection.

Stephen Linn really gets to the heart of tailgating with terrific recommendations of what to see and do in every major tailgate city. Details on the stadiums and parking are very helpful. This guide's going to be on the front seat when I load up my Silverado with beer and brats and take my Freedom Grill on the road for a few tailgating road trips this fall. I can't wait! Go Chargers!
