Poignant and lovely.......2005-09-14
This is an epistolary novel, which means that it is composed entirely of a series of letters. It's told from the point of view of boys' school headmaster John Greeve, who writes letters to family, friends, colleagues, and the parents of students over the course of one school year.
Letters from John provide an interesting point of view. Events can only be described as he writes about them to other people, so reading the novel is a little like catching up with a friend periodically. Nothing happens in real time. The reader discovers everything after the fact, and only learns about it in terms of the headmaster's view of the situation. It is a unique perspective and, although it takes a little longer to be drawn into the book, one learns a great deal more about the main character because of the perspective.
Over the course of the novel, Mr. Greeve's life all but falls apart. It's heartbreaking to see so many terrible things happen to someone who is so inherently good. But he maintains his dignity throughout. I appreciated John's integrity. He stood firm on an issue he believed in, and was polite but unwavering when necessary. I had a lot of respect for many of the letters he wrote to colleagues and parents about happenings at the school.
This book should have been depressing. The main character has to face ordeal after ordeal, and in the end, the trials undo him. But it wasn't. It was sad, yes, and very poignant. But I was able to find hopefulness and honor in a man who is so dignified in the face of his trials.

Full of assumptions, misinformation, and rubbage!.......2007-03-10
A nice idea because very little is written on this topic; however, the author falls short and makes some very biased and uncited claims. It appears to me that it is self-published because no reputable publishing house would touch something so unsubstantiated and unreferenced. For instance, Rosenthal states that, "Pubic hair protects your vulva from bacterial infections by blocking what can get in." What a bunch of nonsense! She also encourages readers to use 'crisco' or 'mineral oil' to clean your vulva. Whoa! I could go on and on and give numerous examples - but will leave it up to you to decide.

It has some good info, but is way too small! If you want a general idea about different hair removal techniques get it. They need an updated version to cover the newer hair removal techniques.
Thorough, Unbiased, and Readable Book on Hair Removal for Women.......2007-01-21
Women afflicted with excess hair because of hormonal problems will find this book especially useful, since about a third of the book deals with hormone treatments (including contraceptives) as a treatment. However, there's a wealth of information for the reader who is merely interested in the various hair-removal options:
> An overview chapter summarizes all the methods of hair removal (including a couple I'd never heard of) and the best areas for each method.
> There's a separate and detailed chapter on electrolysis that discusses what to expect in terms of results and costs, how painful it is, and safety factors.
> Laser treatment also gets its own chapter, with a realistic assessment of costs and results.
> The author even tackles the generally-taboo subject of pubic hair removal: why it's currently in fashion, the best methods, and who should avoid this.
> Unique to the subject is the author's final chapter: the psychological effects of excess or unwanted body hair.
Whenever the author presents scientific material (for example, on how the hair is structured and grows), she does so in a clear, understandable way. Though the book isn't long, it's packed with information and answered every question I had on hair removal and presented some facts I'd never seen elsewhere. I found it invaluable in making a decision about pursuing either electrolysis or laser treatment.
A great resource for PCOS.......2004-11-19
I have polycystic ovarian syndrome and for years I've been battling a really horrible side-effect: hair on my face! I've used all the hair removal products out there and it is an ongoing battle for me and many PCOS sufferers I know. Women and Unwanted Hair is a great book. It explains why this hair growth happens for all the hormonal reasons, and then step by step explains how to get rid of it! Most of all, having this book is comforting because it makes me feel like I'm not all alone with this problem. The advice is straightforward. This problem isn't going to go away, but because of this book, I've decided to look into electrology as a solution.

better than the first TPB.......2005-04-26
this book collects issues #7-12. like the first book, this TPB has some pretty middling humor, but still has somewhat interesting new characters. the first arc, w/ ho-hum work by dave ross, has the team fighting some animated waxworks, and isn't that memorable. however, the second arc is more amusing and has better art (by clayton henry). the arc riffs on the famous "days of future past" x-men storyline and despite its twisty time-travelling setup, the story has more action than the other storylines. and although the ending is very abrupt due to the fact the series got cancelled, all in all it's not a bad ending to a doomed-from-the-start series.

The Book Titles Says it All.......2006-03-11
This book gives a very complete lesson on ski prep. It is easy to read and well indexed, serving as a shelf reference when needed. The wording is descriptive enough, but for the true beginner, illustrations are lacking. If you get a chance to observe someone else actually go through the procedure of ski prep, this book will complement your lesson extremely well.

Complete but lacking.......2001-10-19
It's a good book but it assumes you now the basics of ski waxing. I was trying to obtain a book to learn how to wax skis,and I am still looking. It's worth buying for the advanced procedures covered but you will have to find another book to learn how to "wax skis".

The book is for all people in cross country skiing, not only for trainers, also for competitors, for every serviceman and for all amateurs. Only someone who has such a experiances from his work can write a book with knowledge for all. Or like Peter Hale wrote:" Since few skiers can just walk into a World cup or Olympic waxroom to see what's going on, this book is the next best think." I think that all we working in CC skiing can say just:" Thank you Nat for such a great present!"
It's the best practical book of cross country skiing I've ever read.
The Wax guide........2000-08-24
This is really the only waxing book for serious skiers. Perhaps a bit much for a novice. Given evolving waxing technology the reader will have to also read the latest wax company literature to stay up to date.

This book focuses simply on the composition of snow and how one can best wax to take advantage of it. It gave me a great explanation on the effects of snow on wax. However, I wanted a book to show me how to tune my skis at home. This is not that book. Pass on this book unless you want to know the intricisies of how to wax a cross-country ski.

Not The Best.......2005-12-18
Spends way too much time on sanding skis, using klister, conditioning wooden skis among other outdated or rarely used items. Not a thorough enough book for the skiing enthusiast and not simple enough for the basic skier! Needs more time spent on the newer glide and kick waxes and their application. Plus the review of snow crystals is more complicated than it needs to be. Get "Complete Guide to Cross Country Ski Waxing" by Nat Brown its a better guide, especially valuable if you're an enthusiast.

This report was created for global strategic planners who cannot be content with traditional methods of segmenting world markets. With the advent of a “borderless world”, cities become a more important criteria in prioritizing markets, as opposed to regions, continents, or countries. This report covers the top 2000 cities in over 200 countries. It does so by reporting the estimated market size (in terms of latent demand) for each major city of the world. It then ranks these cities and reports them in terms of their size as a percent of the country where they are located, their geographic region (e.g. Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America, Latin America), and the total world market. In performing various economic analyses for its clients, I have been occasionally asked to investigate the market potential for various products and services across cities. The purpose of the studies is to understand the density of demand within a country and the extent to which a city might be used as a point of distribution within its region. From an economic perspective, however, a city does not represent a population within rigid geographical boundaries. To an economist or strategic planner, a city represents an area of dominant influence over markets in adjacent areas. This influence varies from one industry to another, but also from one period of time to another. In what follows, I summarize the economic potential for the world\'s major cities for "manufacturing electric vacuum cleaners, electric floor waxing machines, and other household electric floor care machines" for the year 2007. The goal of this report is to report my findings on the real economic potential, or what an economist calls the latent demand, represented by a city when defined as an area of dominant influence. The reader needs to realize that latent demand may or may not represent real sales. For many items, latent demand is clearly observable in sales, as in the case for food or housing items. Consider, however, the category "satellite launch vehicles". Clearly, there are no launch pads in most cities of the world. However, the core benefit of the vehicles (e.g. telecommunications, etc.) is "consumed" by residents or industries within the world\'s cities. Without certain cities, in other words, the market for satellite launch vehicles would be lower for the world in general. One needs to allocate, therefore, a portion of the worldwide economic demand for launch vehicles to both regions and cities. This report takes the broader definition and considers, therefore, a city as a part of the global market.

This study covers the latent demand outlook for commercial and industrial floor and carpet waxing, polishing, and cleaning machines excluding vacuum cleaners across the regions of Greater China, including provinces, autonomous regions (Guangxi, Nei Mongol, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Xizang - Tibet), municipalities (Beijing, Chongqing, Shanghai, and Tianjin), special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau), and Taiwan (all hereafter referred to as “regions”). Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across some 1,100 cities in Greater China. For each major city in question, the percent share the city is of the region and of Greater China is reported. Each major city is defined as an area of “economic population”, as opposed to the demographic population within a legal geographic boundary. For many cities, the economic population is much larger that the population within the city limits; this is especially true for the cities of the Western regions. For the coastal regions, cities which are close to other major cities or which represent, by themselves, a high percent of the regional population, actual city-level population is closer to the economic population (e.g. in Beijing). Based on this “economic” definition of population, comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city’s marketing and distribution value vis-à-vis others. This exercise is quite useful for persons setting up distribution centers or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each region and city of influence, latent demand estimates are created for commercial and industrial floor and carpet waxing, polishing, and cleaning machines excluding vacuum cleaners. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.
