Message from a dead girl...
It's too late to call back. Jenny will never speak to Liza again. But it seems that even from beyond the grave, Liza is begging her sister for help....
They say it's a serial killer. Is it? Jenny can't afford to trust anyone. Now she's here, in Wisteria, anonymously registered at the Chase College theater camp where her sister died. The daughter of a famous theatrical family, Jenny distrusts actors, loathes acting. Yet here in the college's darkened theatre, Liza seems to be speaking to her. Suddenly Jenny is mouthing Liza's last lines, sharing Liza's last days, a drama starring Brian, the stage manager, who seems to follow her everywhere...dangerously attractive Mike...Paul, who was obsessed with Liza...motherly, suffocating assistant director Maggie...and Walker, the director, bristling with hostility and resentment against Liza and Jenny's famous father. Does he suspect Jenny's true identity?
How can anyone know the visions that may be driving Jenny straight into the killer's arms?

ELIZABETH CHANDLER IS AMAZING!!!! BUY THESE BOOK WORSHIP THESE BOOKS THEY ARE A GIFT FROM GOD!!!!!!!!!!
At first..........2005-08-26
I thought this would be a BORING book. I had to find a book for my L.A. project and chose this randomly. I just finished reading it-and to my surprise-it was so exciting! It was very suspenseful, deep, and kept me on the edge of my chair! I couldn't help but turn the page continuously and read for hours. I am unusually like this unless I am reading a REALLY good book. And that's what this is--a REALLY good book and more!
No time to die!.......2005-07-25
This story is filled with unbelievable twist. It will keep you at the edge of your sit, and the ending was amazing. You won't believe what happens and you really will not guess who the killer is! I give this story five stars, a great job by Elizabeth Chandler.
Exciting book!!.......2005-06-14
Jenny's sister, Liza, was murdered while she was at drama camp and Jenny went there to find out if it really was a serial killer who did it. While she's there, Jenny keeps having these visions that are like memories of what Liza saw near to the time when she was murdered. Jenny is finding more and more clues and has many suspects. She doesnt think it was a serial killer, she thinks it was someone that knew Liza, and she needs to find out because they might try to kill her next. Jenny keeps touching things that give her chills and suggest that they had to do with the murder, like a hammer that she had a vision of being the murder weapon, and sometimes she has visions when she stands in a place that Liza was. Jenny doesnt tell the people there that she is Liza's sister and subtly asks around to find out more. Will she find out who the murderer is before they get her too? Read it to find out!!
Super!.......2004-10-31

In a love story that glows like the many-colored silk skirt that is its symbolic centerpiece, Rita Williams-Garcia takes her place as a major young-adult novelist. This book, with a strong lyrical voice, fulfills the promise the author showed in her widely acclaimed earlier novel, Like Sisters on the Homefront. With simplicity and a masterful control of pacing, Williams-Garcia builds a story that aches with the longing of two young lovers in a dance of tentative approach and defensive retreat, and eventual trust and healing.
Both Thulani and his girlfriend Ysa have an isolating spiritual wound. Ever since his mother suddenly returned to their Jamaican home to die four years ago, Thulani, 16, has withdrawn from the brother and sister-in-law who have raised him and who want to "man him up." Thulani spends long hours on the roof of their brownstone alone with his beloved doves, and school is to him "simply the sitting place." One day he hears a scream and looks over the parapet to see a young woman being raped in the alley below. He rescues her, covers her nakedness, and takes her home, although she fights him every step of the way. Later, fascinated by her proud rejection and grace, he begins to seek her out and follow her in her colorful clothes. "Every time you step out," he tells her, "a rainbow must die." At first she rejects him angrily because he has seen her shamed, but then she shares her name, Ysa, and her fierce ambition to become a textile designer. Little by little they begin to reach out (and then pull back again), to comfort and strengthen each other, and, finally, in a bittersweet ending, "to let go when it was time to let go." (Ages 14 and older) --Patty Campbell
Book Description
Ever since he found her battered and raped in the alley near his home, Thulani hasn't been able to think about anything but Ysa. This is the first time since his mother died that he's given a thought to anything but the rock doves he keeps on the roof of his house in Brooklyn. Now that he has seen Ysa, Thulani finally has a reason to come down from the roof. But it's not so easy for him -- especially when it seems that Ysa doesn't want him in her world at all.

Sensitivity Heals.......2007-06-05
Thulani is a high school student living with his older bother and sister-in-law in an apartment in New York City. His mother died several years ago and Thulani, who had been very close to her and has learned all of her secrets for keeping a happy home, has never really recovered from that. Thulani's father never left Jamaica to join them in America, and Thulani only has fleeting memories of him.
Thulani does not enjoy living with his brother and sister-in-law. They don't give him the peace and the space he needs, and they constantly remind him that he is living off of their charity. Even worse, they keep trying to make a man out of him, to turn him into a responsible and hardworking guy with a job and a girlfriend.
The only times Thulani truly feels at peace are the times he spends on his roof. He found some baby birds there and he took care of them and built a home for them. Now as adults they fly the city all day and return to this home at night.
One day from the roof, Thulani sees a girl his age raped in an alley. He takes her home and then can't seem to get her out of his mind. As he pursues her and gets to know her better, Thulani is also able to learn a lot about himself.
I liked how Thulani gave Ysa all of the power in their relationship. He rebuilt her confidence by allowing her to control him, and he didn't seem to mind that. I also liked Thulani's control over his own emotions. He never seemed to get angry, even when it seemed like he should have. I also liked how Thulani's relationship with his sister-in-law developed.
I didn't like how Thulani's brother treated him. He was unnecessarily harsh. I also didn't like that Thulani's father never came to this country. I'd think he would miss his family enough to want to join them.
An Engaging Story of Adolescent Struggles.......2004-08-30
Rita Williams-Garcia's novel, Every Time a Rainbow Dies (HarperTempest, 2001) is an engaging story of adolescent struggles in the midst of difficult situations. It is a story about loss and finding purpose, as well as dealing with violence and overcoming fear. Thulani, a Jamaican teenager living in Brooklyn, is the main character. He has an observant eye and a lyrical voice that portrays even the brutal rape that he witnesses in a perceptive and sensitive way.
Thulani, still grieving the loss of his mother, is engrossed in caring for a flock of doves. They seem a substitute for human relationships. He lives with his brother and pregnant sister-in-law. He sees Ysa, a teenage girl, being raped and he courageously rushes to her aid. His life is changed forever as he becomes increasingly obsessed with Ysa and pursues her until she allows him to be part of her life. He is empowered by her sense of confidence and direction in spite of the rape, and it helps him to begin to heal and make goals of his own.
Every Time A Rainbow Dies.......2003-12-08
Maybe I read this book at the wrong age or at the wrong point in time(with school), but I really did not enjoy the book. Only at times was it written well. Only at times did it give you just enough detail to imagine what is happening. The book is an easy read and sure you can read it, dont let me hold you back, but there are so many better books on the same topic out there. Dont be mistaken that Rita Williams-Garcia is a bad author from this book, but its not one of her best works. Thulani, the main character, just isnt a normal guy. The book can give you wrong impressions about him, but really I think that one of his pigeons poked his head one too many times. And Ysa with her drawbaks.....it gets to be stupid. But dont let this stop you from reading it, just advice that its not that great of a book.
Don't judge this book by its cover.......2002-06-08
This is a beautifully written book about two teenagers going through some tough times. 16-year-old Thulani lost his mother 3 years ago without even being able to say goodbye. Since then, he has lived in the grudging hospitality of his brother and sister-in-law, who want to "man him up" and have him conform to their ideas of what he should be doing in his life. He spends most of his time tending his pigeons on the roof of the Brooklyn brownstone where he lives. The pigeons are his only interest in life . . . until one day, he hears a scream. Down on the street, a girl is being brutally raped. He yells at the rapists to stop and runs to help the girl (You like him already at this point). He takes her home, but finds that he is obsessed with the girl, whose name is Ysa.
I just loved this book. It wasn't the type of book where you are turning pages quickly, waiting to see how it will end. Rather, Williams Garcia's poetic writing and fully-realized characters give you the feeling of people you know. You just want to move in and stay there a long time.
Every Time A Rainbow Dies.......2002-05-13
Every Time A Rainbow Dies is about a young boy who isn't really interested in school as much as he's interested in a girl named Ysa. This boy's name is Thulani. One day while he was letting his birds out he heard a girl scream. She was being raped in the alley below him. He panicked and didn't know what to do, so he went down there and scared them away. He took her back to her home and was nearly beat down by her aunt. He thought about her constantly, and tried to find out if she went to his school or a different school. He finally found out where she went and met up with her. He would take the bus with her to her school, but she didn't want to become and "item" with him. They got together finally, and she got accepted to college for the arts.
I like the book because it showed how far someone would go for love. Thulani always knew he would get the girl, so he never gave up. That requires a great deal of determintion and strive. Even though she was hesitant at first, he got her and he knew they were perfect for each other. I also liked the book because it was very realistic. It wasn't just a fantasy.
My favorite part of the book was when Thulani was talking to Ysa and they saw the rapist's mother. That was shoking how Ysa just burst out into emotions and broke down. That was also the time when Ysa and Thulani got together. Since Thulani stuck up for her and was there for her, she knew he could be trusting and responsible. I liked this part because it starts off as a bad situation, but ends up like a fairy tale.

This book is a love story--about love that faces death. To truly know and accept that this body dies, and that this is the only time that we have, is the most powerful weapon we can ever have. The book is a reprint of author's The Invisible Way, the second book in his autobiographical trilogy that begins with The Last Barrier.
Book Description
After two years at the Russian front, Ernst Graeber finally receives three weeks' leave. But since leaves have been canceled before, he decides not to write his parents, fearing he would just raise their hopes.
Then, when Graeber arrives home, he finds his house bombed to ruin and his parents nowhere in sight. Nobody knows if they are dead or alive. As his leave draws to a close, Graeber reaches out to Elisabeth, a childhood friend. Like him, she is imprisoned in a world she did not create. But in a time of war, love seems a world away. And sometimes, temporary comfort can lead to something unexpected and redeeming. . . .

WAS IT ENOUGH THAT HE HAD OBEYED ORDERS WITHOUT QUESTION?
ernst Graber wondered as he lay in the Russian mud, the greasy stink of death in his nostrils and in his ears the roar of artillery and the whine of machine-gun bullets. And then out of the habitual sight of horror and desolation he discovered, in the passion of a brief tragic interlude, that there was love well as hate, and at last he found an answer....and a vindication.
Increases your understanding of humanity.......2002-08-04
This is a very interesting and frightening book, exploring such a dark theme as war and what it does to soldiers as well as civilians. Ernst Graeber is a very young soldier, but from his outlook on life you would expect him to be middle-aged ... at the very least. Of course, it is the war that has aged him. As the title suggests: for him it is really a time to love, although the times are so horrible.
The book begins with scenes from Russia, where Graeber is stationed. He knows in his heart by now that Germany will not win the war, and that they in fact are retreating, no matter what is said on the radio. Graeber is able to think surprisingly clear on the subject.
When Graeber gets leave (which is since long overdue) he is very surprised. However, he is certain that he will come home to Germany as it was when he left it. To his great sorrow, he discovers that he has not left the war, only discovered another frontier of it. His home town is bombed and much destroyed, and his parents are nowhere to be found. He cannot understand the sense of it all. But he meets a friend from his childhood, Elisabeth, and they have a short, almost unreal, love story.
Graeber makes inquiries about his parents, and therefore he meets lots of people. Almost everybody is looking for somebody else - somebody who is missing or not accounted for. Thus, Graeber gets to see into many other people's minds, and understand what the war does to them, to them all. People do not wear so many masks - there is no energy left to that. Graeber meets mankind uncovered.
Remarque is very good at describing mankind at is worst, and he shows us that cruelty has no mother tongue - it is a universal language.
this review analyses the ending too.......2001-06-12
I planned on reading this book for several years. When I finally got around to it, with a fine old first edition from a used book store, I was at first pleased with the writer's style. The sentences were short, clear, crisp, and were an improvement upon Hemingway's frustrating lack of punctuation. However, in the last several pages my opinion of Remarque did an about-face as complete as that of the German army, for it seems that Ernst Graeber is offered as a hero rather than a traitor to friends and family back home. However this character was meant to be appraised by readers, we finally learn that a soldier who murders a comrade, frees the enemy, hands them his gun, and is shot with the same weapon in return for his kindness deserves exactly what he gets. I wonder if Elisabeth was eventually killed with the same gun.
A Time to Love and a Time to Die.......2001-06-05
I loved this book. It is definitly one Remargue's best. The way he describes the war and his surroundings is just perfect. He bends words to his will. I've read Remargue's Three comrades and it was pretty good, but not as captivating as a time to love. Me being a 15 year old girl I couldn't even imagin what a war would be like, but Remarque does excellent job of describing the affects of war on a person's life. How so much can be created and destroyed in 3 weeks of leave. Its now one of my favs. I recommend it to everyone.
Underrated.......2000-09-23
This book should be read in every high school in America. The shocking beauty of the words cannot help but transform the reader and his opinions about the effect of World War II on the ordinary German people. Remarque is sadly known only for "All Quiet on the Western Front". His best work and my personal favorite is "Arch of Triumph" but no ones time would be wasted on reading any of his work. If this man wrote the telephone book I would read it.

An Inspiring Journey of the Soul.......2006-10-13
The morning after this book arrived in the mail, I thought I'd read a couple of chapters while I relaxed by the pool. Riveted, I cried and laughed and didn't put it down `til I'd finished it a few hours later - a little sunburned, but richly soul-fed by this amazing and insightful journey!
LaVoie leads us through her life's path of rocky inclines and scenic vistas, deftly infusing the wisdom and the magic of the ethers into daily realities of life and death, love and loss. She turns stumbling blocks into stepping stones and changes "incredible suffering into incredible joy."
Not only is her story deeply inspirational, her Epilogue and Resources offer practical tools for readers who have been motivated by her words. This author is a real life heroine, and her story would be perfect for Oprah's Book Club!
A Story that Inspires.......2006-10-04
Some times, books dealing with spiritual truths can talk at us, or we can feel that the place the author is in, is beyond our personal reach. Karla's personal journey through grief and rebirth is written in such a way that the reader can not only relate to what she writes, but get inspired by what is written.
While reading this book, I felt what the author felt. I felt the pain of loss, that empty, lost feeling, I was amused when she was amused, cringed for her when she was embarrassed and felt my spirit rise when her's did.
There was a chapter about a dolphin swim that I never wanted to end, so beautifully was it written, so poignant, it brought tears to my eyes. Also a very emotional experience was reading the childhood story of one of Karla's mentor/teacher, Elizabeth Kubler-Ross.
I recommend this book to anyone who has lost a loved one through any circumstance, or a way of life they had come to rely on. Karla writes in a very personal account, that our loved ones have not gone, just gone on ahead.
This story teaches us that there is a beauty to sadness when you are given a rebirth from it, and that if you have faith and surrender to that faith, you will move past the shock and pain and realize that truly God is in all things, love never does die, and that there is life after death.

Book Description
Taking the 'special relationship' as a central theme, the book explores the public and private diplomacy between Britain and the United states in periods of war and peace. Using recently released archives as well as contemporary sources, the areas both of cooperation and conflict are revealed. What emerges is a much more complexed relationship than the one normally portrayed in much of the secondary literature on the subject. The documents also reveal the way the concepts of the 'special relationship' was used as a 'tool of diplomacy' on both sides of the Atlantic.

But success on the battlefield could not undo the past. Elves and men are mortal enemies, as it has been since the Great War when the elves of Under-Earth sought to enslave all the peoples of Ruin Mist. Now even as Seth attempts to sway Great Kingdom's leaders to stop the coming darkness, there are few who will truly listen--and even fewer who can look beyond the treachery of days past.

Customer Reviews:
Cool series...even better than the first.......2007-09-29
Keeper Martin's Tale is one of my favorite books, and this was even better. A good read and recommended to anyone who likes fantasy.
Can the shattered alliance be restored?.......2007-07-08
This is the second book in the Ruin Mist Chronicles (RMC) series (after Keeper Martin's Tale). Although I truly enjoyed the first one, this is BETTER than the first one. Stanek is really finding his legs with the series. Stanek is a great writer who builds an incredible world with a compelling history. His characters are also incredible.
After the defining battle at Quashan', the heroes find themselves going in separate directions. Vilmos continues his training with Xith and they move on to the Mouth of the World and points beyond. Adrina and Emel return separately to Imtal from the south. Adrina travels from Klaive. Emel and his father return with the elves. What this effectively means in terms of atmosphere is that we have a much clearer feeling that this book has a definite goal in mind and is heading towards that goal with a lot of purpose and a fair bit of pace. With most of the character and world introductions out of the way, Stanek devotes this book to developing the story and characters further, particularly Adrina, Emel, and the elves. Xith remains somewhat of an enigma but what is here is more than satisfying enough. Here, many of the lesser characters and sub-plots begin to connect with the core, in particular Emel and Myral, cameo players in Martin's Tale, become major characters and Stanek doesn't waste too much time achieving that either. By far the most important developments though are the revelations related to Vilmos and the elves.
As with Martin's Tale, Stanek mixes cultures, religions, institutions and languages with exceptional skill. This is excellent world building, applied with a dark, powerful touch that should convince fans of Berg, Brooks, Eddings, Feist, and others to become Stanek fans, too. What I love most about Ruin Mist Chronicles is that it is always tightly plotted. I don't think it gets more tightly plotted than this installment. Kingdom Alliance is a great book, but be warned: this is a continuing story. The story has an ending but not a complete resolution of all the threads as this book is part of a larger series. A great read, great fantasy.
Return to the Kingdoms of Men!.......2007-06-01
As a long-time reader of science fiction and fantasy, I've read many hundreds of books, but the one series I keep coming back to is this one. When each new book came out, I read the ones before it. Since then the last book came out, I've read this series several more times.
Fantasy books aren't meant to be literary fiction, but Robert Stanek's Ruin Mist Chronicles are well-written and well-plotted. The writing has just the right amount of detail to keep the story moving while giving the reader a sense they are in the world of the characters.
One of the great things about the Ruin Mist Chronicles is the world itself seems like a character. That's because Robert Stanek does an excellent job of creating a believable world and populating with strange and wonderful things. The history of the world is extensive and rich.
The history of the kingdoms is expertly blended into the plot, so that you effortlessly become emersed in the world. It feels as if this land, with its people, traditions, and history is as real as our own. Each of the deluxe editions of the books end with 50 pages of details on the fantastical world.
Many readers have called Stanek's "Keeper Martin's Tale" his "The Hobbit," and his "Kingdom Alliance" "Fields of Honor" and "Mark of the Dragon" his "The Lord of the Rings." This is because "Keeper Martin's Tale" provides a relatively simple beginning to a complex tale of an epic struggle between the forces of good and evil, and his "Kingdom Alliance" "Fields of Honor" and "Mark of the Dragon" bring the rich world and its very real characters fully to life.
Each of the books includes illustrations of that book's main characters. You get a good sense of the characters from these character studies. The expressions on the character's faces tell you a lot about their characters. The way the characters carry themselves also tells you a lot about them. In this book, my favorite character study is of Edward the Troant. He's the half troll half giant who aids Vilmos in a time of need.
This book, Kingdom Alliance, begins within a few days or weeks of the ending of Keeper Martin's Tale. We find Princess Adrina Alder, daughter of Great Kingdom, returning from the promised visit to Klaive. We find Vilmos and Xith aboard the Scarlet Hawk as the ship makes its way into the Mouth of the World. We find Emel Brodstson and his father Ansh Brodst returning to Imtal, and dealing with the aftermath of the Battle of Quashan'. From there, the story pulls the reader deeper and deeper into the shattering of the titular Kingdom Alliance.
As a work of fiction, Kingdom Alliance is excellent the story moves quickly and has many fantastic scenes where you are completely swept away and many scenes that leave you hanging on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend Kingdom Alliance, and moreover, the entire series to anyone who enjoys reading and likes fantasy.
Good followup.......2006-10-30
Kingdom Alliance continues the epic story of the kingdoms and the reaches. It is a fiction-fantasy novel with elves, dwarfs and other mythical creatures. One thing I admire most about the stories is the landscape is always changing, the reader is always getting to visit new and interesting places. Plus the characters are fresh you feel like you know them and some of the more interesting characters come alive in this one. The main characters that I like best are Vilmos, Adrina, Emel, Ansh, Myrial, Calyin and Valam. They are well drawn and real. I would recommend the Ruin Mist Chronicles to anyone who likes adventurous books. If you haven't read it, read It!
I loved this novel!! It was brilliant and left me wanting more!!.......2006-08-22
This author has a clear voice and tells this story with incredible precision. Kingdom Alliance is the second book out of four in the Ruin Mist Chronicles. The series is completed, and very good. Like the other books in the series, this book takes place in a world known as Ruin Mist which is from an elvish proberb about the lost ages and the ruin of time. Ruin Mist is an ancient world once ruled by titans and dragons. The titan and dragon masters no longer rule, but their reach still affects the lands and the other peoples of the world. In Ruin Mist, elves and men are ancient enemies, and many of the other peoples have disappeared from the lands. The story follows the adventures of several groups of characters in what may be the world's final age, an age where men and elves may disappear from the lands for good.
In many ways, this book is even better than the first one. I loved how the story continues almost immediately after the end of the previous book. I'll tell you this: I wanted the sequel when I was only half-way through the book. It's filled with lush detail and such an interesting plot and complex characters that the final chapter leaves any reader hungry for the next book in this series. The author did an incredible job.

WWII Diplomacy Standards........1999-02-15
It deals with diplomacy throughout the Second World War when Turkey was a non-belligerent but not an ineffective bystander. Though she bound to Great Britain and France in mutual assisatance treaty since October 1939 broke her pledge to them and to all allied forces and declared war against Germany and Italy on February 1945 just before Yalta Conference when the fighting was all but over to be qualified in her inclusion of United Nations Organization. Thirty years later the Turks invaded Cyprus and revealed that, after all they had been dissastisfied with what diplomacy had gained for them. The book is very instructive for policy makers and leaders of the world and should have a reading copy of this outstanding book to better understand that diplomacy in nowadays should observe standards of honesty and integrity.
Very good diplomatic history of a key neutral country in WW2.......1997-05-13
Book examines Turkey's relations with the major powers during WWII. It includes historical background on the 20s and 30s. Shows how Turkey swayed from Axis to Allies depending on events and avoided Nazi invasion. Some of the more interesting parts of book are not on Turkey but about events in Syria and Iraq and rest of mideast. Extensive Japanese intrigues in Baghdad, for example, sometimes at crosspurposes with German designs. Japan considered Iraq in their sphere

Book Description
The years from 1934 to 1937 were a time during which the British Empire was confronted with the emergence of the triple threat of Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan, and Fascist Italy. The goal of British policy was easily defined: the protection and promotion of Britain's vast interests. While Neville Chamberlain and Sir Robert Vansittart agreed on the goal, they disagreed on the means to achieve it. Their disagreement stemmed partly from their different understandings of the nature of the Third Reich; Vansittart understood better than Chamberlain the implications of Hitler's Weltanschauung. But their different strategies also reflected the fact that Chamberlain did not share Vansittart's belief in the necessity of pursuing alliance diplomacy to protect the world-wide security and interests of the British Empire. While the prime minister realized that Britain's problems were global in scope, he thought Britain could solve each problem on a bilateral basis. In other words, Britain should approach Germany, Japan, and Italy directly to settle outstanding disputes. Vansittart did not believe, however, that Britain's problems could be solved on a bilateral basis, for the interdependence of events in every region of the globe militated against bilateral solutions.
