1 out of 5 stars Should be titled - "An Incomplete Guide".......2004-07-03

If you are buying this book because you are a regular person suddenly involved in putting together an auction - having no previous fundraising experience - I will tell you that I learned a lot more by inviting a local fundraising professional to come chat with our committee for a couple hours than I learned from this book.

It primarily focuses on running the auction tables at the event. It is grossly lacking in advice about how to actually plan the event in the first place. A rather important tidbit. I didn't notice when I bought it online that it was a whopping 50 pages - that would have been a clue. Absolutely not worth the 20 bucks I paid for it.

It touches briefly on committees and volunteers, has a few forms (examples are easy to obtain from the community - no need to buy this book for those), information about running the event itself, and some general hints, but that's about it.

The "complete guide", as he calls it, has no suggestions for how to advertise your event, find attendees/sell tickets, come up with a budget, how to work in other activities at the event (such as a meal), etc. There are no sample invitations, save the date cards, etc. And there is no useful information on procuring items and very limited information on how to track donations in a overly simplistic spreadsheet.

If would suggest that Mr. Dechene keep writing until the book is actually finished.

The Silent Auction

They're back!

Your favorite members of The Bronxville Book Club—Kathryn, Lizbet, Giselle, Chelsea, Francesca, Carole, Sarah and Madison—are welcoming the Braithwaite family to the charming village of Bronxville! And what better way for Morgan, Brooke, and the three Braithwaite children to get to know their new neighbors than by participating in the highly successful Memorial Day activities at the Bronxville School. The jewel in the crown of the holiday weekend is, of course, the eagerly anticipated Silent Auction.

This year, Lizbet Wellington Smith has organized a Silent Auction that will surpass all others and raise record-breaking funds for The Bronxville School. With Lizbet's able assistance, Morgan Braithwaite has entered his family's names on several of the red-white-and-blue ribboned bidding sheets for such items as…a condo in Vail…a Spa Cruise…Skybox tickets…Gourmet dinners…Breakfast at Tiffany's…and a Holiday House tour of spectacular homes.

Join Morgan at 2 p.m. on Memorial Day when the winners of the Silent Auction items are announced. The Braithwaites are in for quite a year as they get to know the residents of the affluent village that is endlessly copied but never matched…and the residents themselves are in for Silent Auction surprises no one ever would have expected…

"Do the lives of these women sound the slightest bit intriguing? You're not the only one who thinks so. It seems America's latest obsession centers around the lives of suburban women, and we don't just mean the famous five sneaking around Desperate Housewives of Wisteria Lane. There has been a recent outpouring of books, The Bronxville Book Club and The Silent Auction that dive into the lives of suburban women, and many suburban wives are happy to bury their newly done noses between the pages."

5 out of 5 stars Sensational Sequel.......2004-10-24

I was so glad my favorite ladies returned in a new story. In this novel, the ladies in this gorgeous suburb welcome the Braithwaites to their community. The novel details how the newest residents get close to their neighbors via prizes they win in the school's annual Silent Auction fundraiser. Some suprising twists in the story will keep you laughing and shaking your head until the last page.

5 out of 5 stars Enjoyable read.......2004-08-01

I've now read both of the books by this author (the first was "The Bronxville Book Club") and really enjoyed both. I thought the concept was very creative. The quotes that open up each chapter are funny and a great indication of what's to come. I am now anxiously awaiting the next tales of these loveable characters.

5 out of 5 stars Great fun.......2004-05-19

The Silent Auction is a great follow up to The Bronxville Book Club. I enjoyed seeing the old characters and meeting the new family. It was very entertaining to see how they were "encouraged" to bid on items at the school"s fundraiser. I think we can all relate to the characters portrayed in the book. There are a few really laugh out loud moments in this book that left me eagerly awaiting the next installment.

5 out of 5 stars Well done!.......2004-05-18

I had read the first book by this author and loved the characters in that book-The Bronxville Book Club." The Silent Auction" takes us back into the lives of some of those characters and introduces new ones to us. I was captivated by "The Silent Auction." The premise of the story is truly wonderful, very cleverly done, and it carries us through the whole way. I was actually sorry when the book ended because it was such enjoyable reading. Though I'm not from the same background, I felt like I knew the characters or people like them, and I wanted to spend more time with them. The ending of the book was unexpected and made me cheer inside. Fantastic summer, winter, spring or fall reading for everyone!

5 out of 5 stars More fun in Bronxville.......2004-05-16

If you were wishing for an update of activities of Lizbeth and the gang, your wish has been answered. "The Silent Auction" picks up where the "Bronxville Book Club" left off and introduces us to yet another Bronxville activity - the amazing offerings to be had at Bronxville's annual silet auction.

Readers are introduced to the silent auction via the Braithwaites - new to Bronxville but instantly at home there. We follow the Braithwaites as they bid on, and win, some really fabulous events. Again, Ms Hobson breezily and wittily portrays the goings on and takes us into the private, exclusive world of this very special community. A fun and delightful read, with some suprising, and surprisingly funny, happenings.

A great book to take to the beach!

          Product Description

Shake the Money Tree describes the four objectives that are achieved at every successful fundraising event and the tasks that need to be accomplished to make sure those objectives are met. There are over 160 tasks divided among 15 hypothetical committees for easy reference. Hi, I'm Richard O'Keef. And I wrote this book to help fundraisers everywhere raise more money to help more people. I have seen organizations actually double the amount of money raised over the previous year by implementing the principles taught in this book. This book will show you the tasks you need to accomplish to meet (and even exceed) your financial goals AND send guests home having had such a good time they'll want to attend again next year. The most common comment I hear from readers is, "I wish I had had this book years ago." I've discovered four objectives that are accomplished at every successful fundraiser. 1. Guests are made to feel important. 2. Guests gain a desire to support the cause at hand. 3. Guests want what is being sold. 4. If there is a live auction, guests get caught up in the thrill of bidding. This book describes the tasks that need to be accomplished to make sure the four objectives are met. To see a list of all the tasks, go to www.letsdoanauction.com/tasks.htm. Shake the Money Tree will also help you achieve the following: 1. You will form long-lasting relationships. 2. You will experience a deep satisfaction rather than becoming stressed and frazzled like so many organizers. 3. Your volunteers, donors, and guests will feel a connection to your organization, which will result in future donations of time, goods, services and money. Producing a successful fundraising event comes as a result of accomplishing the right tasks. Those who accomplish the right tasks have success; while those who leave them out, no matter how sincere they their desire, how hard they work, or how noble their cause, generally meet with less-than-desired results. If producing a successful fundraising event is a result of doing certain tasks, then anyone, regardless of their background or experience, can be successful. They just need to know the tasks. Shake the Money Tree will show you the tasks to accomplish to ensure a successful fundraising event. When People Offered to Buy the Incomplete Rough Draft, I Knew I Had Something. I was consulting with an event committee one afternoon, and one of the committee members said, "These are some great ideas. You really need to put them in a book and I'll be the first to buy it." This wasn't the first time the idea of a book had been suggested to me, but this particular request caused me to get started. When this book was about 90% complete, I started taking a copy of the unfinished rough draft to committee meetings just to get a feel for its value. When people offered to buy the incomplete rough draft, I knew I had something. I often meet with event organizers two or three weeks before their event. During that meeting I request that certain tasks be done that will help achieve The Four Objectives of a Successful Fundraiser. You see, when those objectives are met, it's easier for me, as the auctioneer, to conduct a successful live auction. In this chapter called Three-Week Countdown, I provide the material that I go over in that meeting just as if I were holding that meeting with you. To see the entire Three-Week Countdown chapter, go to www.letsdoanauction.com/countdown.htm Nothing currently published, remotely approaches Shake the Money Tree. You have never read anything like it. See if you don't agree that this is the most thorough and enlightening book about fundraising events on the market.

From the supplier: Several creative ways to raise funds for organizations were presented. A program advertisement magazine may be produced for important social fund-raising events. Silent auctions may be demanding, but will achieve the desired results. Fashion retailers can be invited to participate in a fashion show. Corporations should also be approached to give their support. Holiday greeting card programs and holiday trees are effective fund raisers. The fund raising should be conducted by a central committee. New members should also be recruited for the activity. Finally, fund raising should be enjoyable.

                  3 out of 5 stars What a ride!.......2007-09-24

I have only read "Storm Front" before this. I liked it better. There are so many villians in this book and Harry is threatened in so many ways and injured in so many ways, it almost becomes laughable. The ending is good and exciting, even though I knew pretty much what was coming about chapter 3. The book is starting to have the "Da Vinci Code" syndrome: a cliffhanger at the end of every chapter. He is not as bad as Brown yet, but he is definitely headed in that direction. The friendship of Harry and Butters is pretty cool. The magic becomes convenient for plot devices. The humor is still there in spots.

The series is good. I was just slightly disappointed in this one.

5 out of 5 stars Days of the Dead.......2007-09-14

Dead Beat (2005) is the seventh urban fantasy novel in the Dresden Files series, following Blood Rites. In the previous volume, Harry burned his hand rescuing children from the Black Court vampires. He also discovered that paintball guns work well against the Black Court when loaded with holy water.

Lara Raith discovered the results of the curse on her father and Thomas learned that Justine is not dead. Jake decided to go into Feng Shui consulting while he took care of Emma's kids. Harry named the puppy "Mouse" and wondered why Thomas had bought large breed Puppy Chow.

In this novel, Thomas is living with Harry in the basement apartment. Thomas is frustrated because he cannot find a permanent job and Harry is frustrated because he cannot find a permanent girlfriend. Mister and Mouse are frustrated because they don't get fed on time and they are both oversized enough to really need the food.

It doesn't help that Thomas has women coming into the apartment when he should be running errands for his brother. Maybe Thomas and his lovers have a great time, but they do trash the place. Even the books are pulled out and scattered on the floor. And Thomas doesn't clean up behind himself.

After Thomas bares his soul and leaves in a huff, Harry takes Mouse out for a walk and Murphy pulls up just as he returns. Karrin is going on a vacation -- the first one in forever -- to Hawaii with Kincaid and wants Harry to water her plants. Harry tries to talk her out of doing anything with Kincaid, but doesn't try that hard since Karrin is not his girlfriend. Later, he wonders if Murphy had wanted him to try a little harder.

After pocketing the keys to her house, Harry goes inside the apartment and heats up some soup. Sitting down to eat, Harry checks his mail and finds one envelope with only his name and address on it. He checks it out for magical spells and, finding nothing harmful, opens it and slides out two photos and a note.

The photos show Murphy blasting some vampire minions with a shotgun. Harry knows that the public will only see human shaped bodies in the photos. The note threatens to send copies to Murphy's bosses if Harry doesn't appear at a specified time and place. The note offers a truce for the parley and is signed "Mavra". Dresden has little choice in the matter.

At the meeting, Mavra demands that Harry find a book -- The Word of Kemmler -- or the photos get mailed. Mavra has also taken precautions to ensure that the photos will be mailed if Harry destroys her. Harry still doesn't see any way out of this mess.

In this story, Harry gradually finds out more about Kemmler and his books -- at least two earlier works had been self-published -- and he soon discovers that Kemmler had been the most dangerous necromancer suppressed by the White Council. They had finally terminated Kemmler himself and several apprentices, but they hadn't gotten them all. Now the last work of Kemmler has suddenly reappeared and Harry soon runs into three separate necromancers looking for the book.

The first necromancer encountered is Grevane, who raids the Forensic Institute -- commonly called the morgue -- looking for something. The security guard is the first through the door into the examining room, his throat cut from ear to ear. Then Grevane and two other zombies enter and face Butters, the medical examiner. Harry intervenes to save Butters and they barely escape from the dead men. Harry takes Butters home to his warded apartment.

Later, Harry meets Shiela -- a clerk at Bock Ordered Books -- and buys a copy of a rare book that he needs for his research. When he steps out of the bookstore, two hooded figures are waiting for him. They both know who he is, but the taller one introduces himself as Cowl and calls the shorter one Kumori. Dresden drops a Toyota on Cowl, but only the local pack of werewolves saves him from the more powerful wizard.

When he later returns to the bookstore, the front windows have been replaced with plywood. Bock asks him to never return, but Shiela asks him for a date. Then the third necromancer -- Corpsetaker -- comes into the store asking about the buyer of the rare book and Harry steps out to confront her. She almost snares him with her mind magic, but he gets away with a little help from John Marcone.

This story has Harry facing three necromancers who are each much stronger than him. Moreover, he doesn't know what they want and how they expect to get it. Obviously, The Word of Kemmler is important, but so is the other book. He desperately needs more information.

Harry spends some time explaining the facts of the preternatural world to Butters. At first, Butters is skeptical, but too much is happening around him to deny the facts. Harry also divulges various White Council secrets and even shows Butters how to power a magical circle.

Harry also has several frank discussions with the shadow of Lasciel dwelling within his mind. Naturally, Dresden knows that the fallen angel is trying to seduce him to the dark side, but she is so convincing. He is definitely NOT going to dig up the blackened denarius in the cellar, but maybe they can work out a compromise to help protect his friends and neighbors.

Highly recommended for Butcher fans and for anyone else who enjoys tales of magical powers, dinosaur skeletons, and other exotica.

                  5 out of 5 stars Wild Ride.......2007-08-06

This is a great story. I especially like the character Butters in this book, as he is really just an average guy, and he finds out some stuff about himself. All the Dresden File books are exciting, and the ending to this one is literally a really wild ride. Anyone who likes action with a sense of humor will really enjoy these stories.

                  5 out of 5 stars Details, details.......2007-08-04

I am giving this five stars, because as books go, it deserves it, but it is not the best Harry Dresden novel. Others reviewers have addressed major aspects of this book. It is definitely an action packed book with interesting characters and an exciting plot. I wanted to address some fine points that often go unappreciated in books.

Firstly, Jim Butcher is very good with unifying a plot. A "dream" (or possibly magical encounter) occurs early in the book. It seems the only point of it is an excuse for a very elaborate pun. (Which you would not get if you were not familiar with "Jaberwocky.") However, this sets up two later scenes. One is a reference to the thing that is punned upon and the other is scene where Harry is comforted about the possible repercussions of a death curse. This is just a minor example of the kind of unity that Jim Butcher is capable of. Most published authors get the major things right. Jim Butcher is also good with the details.

Secondly, this novel creates some beautiful visual images. Like many people, I started reading the Harry Dresden novels after seeing the TV series. The TV series is good, but it is really a different world. But I defy anyone to read the action packed battle at the end without "seeing" incredible visual images. The ScFi channel doesn't have the budget to do what the novel does.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent book.......2007-08-03

Wow this is one of the best of a great series by Jim Butcher. In this book not only does Harry's character grow and becomes more interesting the character Waldo Butters grows tremendously as well. I couldn't put the book down once I started reading.

Once upon a time, journalism profs duly instructed their greenhorn grads to seek out community papers and the obit pages as logical entrance points into the world of newspaper reporting. Working for cash-strapped local papers allowed novices to practice writing everything from hard news to lifestyle features. Obituaries, meanwhile, were a rung on the ladder of major publications, albeit the lowest. The musty, dusty obit pages also traditionally hosted aging reporters put out to pasture. Not any more, argues Marilyn Johnson in her unabashedly knock-kneed love letter to the obit pages, The Dead Beat. Today, august publications like The New York Times, England's Daily Telegraph, Independent, and The Economist, and Canada's Globe and Mail use exalted members of the fourth estate to turn out smart, hip tributes to widespread, almost cultish, acclaim. Why? Because, as Johnson persuasively demonstrates in her book, truth is almost always stranger than fiction and a well-written, deeply researched obit is not only a vital historical record but a damn fine read over coffee and toast. "God is my assignment editor," cracks Richard Pearson of the Washington Post and if that isn't more interesting than what's going on in your city council chambers, author Johnson and those working the so-called Dead Beat don't know what is.

As Johnson explains in free-wheeling prose, today's obit writers are virtual folk heroes with global Internet followings and their own conventions. With care and an ear for gentle humor, Johnson guides her readers through the surprisingly structured, labyrinthine obit scene, pausing to meet the writers while pondering both the essence of our being and why, in the right hands, the life of an average Joe can be just as riveting as the shenanigans of a high-flying playboy. And infinitely more resonant. Savvy J-school professors and their students are advised to take heed. --Kim Hughes

                  Book Description

Marilyn Johnson was enthralled by the remarkable lives that were marching out of this world—so she sought out the best obits in the English language and the people who spent their lives writing about the dead. She surveyed the darkest corners of Internet chat rooms, and made a pilgrimage to London to savor the most caustic and literate obits of all. Now she leads us on a compelling journey into the cult and culture behind the obituary page and the unusual lives we don't quite appreciate until they're gone.

This review focuses on just one obituary, that of Frank Zielony. First appearing in the OREGONIAN, it included the following: "Frank Zielony might have lived his entire life as a Polish farmer and brick maker like his father, in the plains of what is now the Ukraine. But in 1939, war came. Soviet troops showed up at 7 o'clock on a dark morning in early 1940 and told the entire village...that they had half an hour to prepare to leave the country. They were packed in cattle cars and deported to Siberia--among more than a million non-Jewish Poles forced into slave labor camps. That's how Frank...came to be cutting down trees and making railroad ties in sub-zero weather." (p. 122)

In commenting on the foregoing obituary, Johnson writes: "The story of Zielony's survival and immigration to the Pacific Northwest, and his life helping other Polish Catholics survive, was one of those great obituaries that are made to be reread. Dark and gritty, but suffused with spirit, it was written by someone inspired." (p. 123)

5 out of 5 stars "I write about dead people!".......2007-03-26

It's difficult to imagine an entire book dedicated to telling the average reader about those folks who write obituaries for a living. This book, however, takes on that daunting task, and fully delivers, with information and humor. Those of us who don't do this kind of writing can't imagine that it is an intense experieance for the writer, especially those who sytrive to give the reader a close insight into the person who has died. We learn about the newspapers that contain the "best" obituaries, and also those writers who are considered at the top of this unusual pyramid. If you want to be informed, and entertained, about a very unusual subject, you can't go wrong with this book.

                  5 out of 5 stars It's the stories, stupid.......2007-03-13

Marilyn Johnson proves that good stories are the product of good reporting. Her inquiry into the art of the obituary takes her to far-flung corners of the globe, and she gets the goods wherever she goes. Through her, we meet some of the finest obituarists on the planet, and we learn how they capture and tell the stories of lives great and small. This is a jewel of a book, joyfully free of typographical and grammatical errors. It has been written and edited with care, and it holds your attention from the first page to the last.

5 out of 5 stars Short stories of the dead..........2007-02-19

Who could predict that the obituaries would become the most widely read portion of today's newspapers. Just as Mary Roach's "Stiff" explored what happens to your body after you're dead, Marilyn Johnson's "Dead Beat" opens our eyes to the written legacy that the obituarist leaves--essentially the short story of a life. There is an art to this, as revealed in some of the delightful excerpts in her book--the best obits don't just recite vital statistics, but rather spotlight the "specialness" (quirky habits, unusual talents, life-changing moments, etc) of the individual as gleaned from interviews with families and friends. I like the idea that the obit focuses the reader's attention on the life of one person, whether famous or not, and then demands an acknowledgement of the loss of that particular bundle of DNA, never to be duplicated. Full of wit and thoughtful exploration of a rarely discussed subject, this book is a real winner.

Re-release of the electric debut of Kate Brannigan, a Manchester, England-based private detective whose hobbies include Thai kick-boxing, computer hacking, and a misadventurous relationship with her journalist boyfriend, Richard. It's no thanks to Richard that Kate agrees to take on a strange missing persons case as a personal favor to a rock star, and no thanks to Richard that she is immediately reminded of why such cases are best avoided. Every rock star is on the hunt for a good lyricist, but Kate's celebrity client is determined to have only Moira Pollock--his partner in sex, drugs, and rock and roll. That is, until Moira vanishes. But who could have expected that solving the mystery of the missing lyricist, and restoring her to her former life, would prove prelude to murder.

This year Spinsters Ink began reprinting the Kate Brannigan mystery series by the award-winning Val McDermid, who is also the author of the lesbian mystery series featuring Lindsay Gordon. In this first book, Kate is hired by a famous musician to find his long-lost lyricist Moira. She succeeds in tracking Moira to her girlfriend's house, and thinks all ends happily ever after with the reunion, until Moira is murdered in the musician's house. Now Kate is pulled into the murder investigation, and finds more suspects and motives than she anticipated, all the while dealing with her job as a private investigator and with a distracting boyfriend. "Dead Beat" is a marvelous introduction to the series and showcases McDermid's talents as a mystery writer. Now let's all thank Spinsters Ink for bringing Brannigan back.

3 out of 5 stars Introducing Kate Brannigan.......2002-02-03

Like other readers, I picked up _Dead Beat_ as a result of enjoying both _The Mermaids Singing_ and _Wire in the Blood_, the Tony Hill novels.

It's worth noting that this book was written long before the other two, and is in fact the first book in the Kate Brannigan series (written in 1992). It may even have been her first published book.

Kate Brannigan agrees to search for a missing songwriter as a favor to a fading rock star who wants to revitalize his career. She finds her, but the consequence of the discovery is murder...

_Dead Beat_ is an inconsistent novel-- with a lot of the brilliant flashes that will show up later in McDermid's writing, but also with a lot of strange and stiff formula writing and some fairly strained plot devices. The role of the police is unbelievable, to say the least, and Brannigan herself acts in some fairly odd and unmotivated ways. It's still worth a read because it sets the basis of the character, who I'm willing to bet gets better in later books.

                  3 out of 5 stars A competent tough-chick PI story.......2000-12-25

Val McDermid writes really well, though she's constrained here by the standard female PI formula. Kate Brannigan is smart and sassy, can't cook, does martial arts, understands computers, and all that required stuff. In fact, Kate's just a little bit too modern-girl to be true - she lets her boyfriend move next door, but to keep her own space, won't give him her key... that kind of thing, I am also so over the whole Rock Star lifestyle behind the scenes stuff, and end was very Agatha Christie - Kate revealing the killer's identity to the suspects assembled in the living room. But if you like female PI stories and want a change from VI Warshawski, then you could do a lot worse. And if you're into serial murder books, The Mermaids Singing, by the same author, is about the best one I've ever read.

                  4 out of 5 stars Good,solid work.......2000-10-11

Dead Beat by Val McDermid St. Martins Press, New York 1992

I read with a great deal of pleasure two books by Val McDermid featuring Dr. Tony Hill and wanted to see how I would like her series with Lady PI Kate Brannigan. In this book, Kate is put on the trail of a missing lyricist and bed partner of a rising rock star. The missing Moira has been through a really tough time venturing into heroin addiction and prostitution and has finally ended up with her lesbian Social Worker. When Kate finds her, she agrees to come back and join the rock star in writing songs but not in bed. However, she is soon found dead with a full caste of likely suspects. Kate very cleverly finds the murderer amidst the hangers-on in the rock star's mansion and flushes him out in a clever maneuver.

This book is perhaps not quite as graphic in its descriptions of crime scenes as the other two books, but Kate is a very exciting, thoroughly modern young woman with a quick wit and Thai boxing experience. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Estrella Stockton, a patron of country-western bar, CHAPS, is killed and the prime suspect is her husband Thane.

Desperate, Thane hires Charlie Plato, co-owner of CHAPS, to investigate who murdered his abusive wife. Zach Hunter, a former TV star, returns from Hollywood after a four month absence. He joins Charlie on her inquiries.

The amateur sleuths soon learn that Estrella, a Filipino, had been seen in town with her former boyfriend, but no one can identify him, except that he wears dark baggy pants and aviator glasses, has dark hair, and is called the "Empty Man". Charlie continues to investigate the case even after her client is murdered. She is unaware that as she gets closer to identifying the Empty Man, she places her own life in danger from a murderer who plans to remain hidden.

DEAD BEAT AND DEADLY, the latest installment in the highly popular Plato series by popular romance writer Margaret Chittendon is all any connoseur of fine work can ask for. An ingenuous and crypytic mystery, witty dialog and the explosive potential for a romance between the two leading protagonists explains why this is one of the most sensual and exciting mystery series on the market today. The hero is reminiscent of Pierce Bronson when he played Remington Steele and Charlie is his conscience and though he doesn't know it yet, his heart. DEAD BEAT AND DEADLY has cross genre appeal fans of both the mystery and romance genres. This is another winner by one of the genre's most talentedwriters.

I thought I was buying a book I could recommed to my male clients dealing with similar parenting issues. This book is falsely represented, poorly written, and in no way supports the authors assumption that he is an authority on anything other than being the worst case scenario of a Dead Beat Dad.

I just put this down about 15 minutes ago and thought I would write a review since it is fresh in my memory. First off, it should be said that I am a huge Robert Bloch fan. I've enjoyed the Psycho series as well as a number of his stand-alone novels, such as, American Gothic. This novel, The Dead Beat, was written shortly after Psycho and is a very good read. It is only 144 pages long with most of the action happening in the last few pages in the book. The theme of this book revolves around youth and the transition that occurs when one generation must make room for the next.
